host Rashid Hammond and alongside it's your boy Caesar fantastic ladies and gentlemen man we have a very special guest in the building ladies and gentlemen me and this brother go back to the '90s man the early 90s man I'm in many tournaments regionals and National tournaments man so man I I say as I was watching him on uh several of his uh IG as well as him being the trainer now as you know with with with the great uh bronze bomber so man it's no further do man let's welcome my brother Malik Scott how's it going brother good what's going on how man it's good to see you brother it's it's been a long time brother I ain't seen you in almost 30 years brother I know and uh you could tell uh the the I'm I'm a thir beli in the decisions you make along your journey has you end up exactly where you're at and both of us to me is in pretty good places compared to where we came from so that means some good decision making was made on our journey for us to be here together man most definitely brother most definitely man you know man I listen to a lot of your philosophies man and um the stuff that you were teaching some of the youth man like for example I'mma play this clip right here brother and and and and and we gonna talk I'm here and her head is over here I can't hit her head God give us free will I don't care if for 20 of them I no I don't care if the ref is not stopping you got to go you know one thing that me C's talk about in this sport is Teachers you know it's a lot of it's a lot of guys that train or or coaches but it's not too many great teachers out here anymore uh uh explain what's what's what's that about brother why do you consider yourself as a teacher I consider myself as a teacher and I also think pardon me I also think that there's a lack of teaching going on just because we we we live in an instant gratification time which mean everybody believe believe things should be done at a speedy Pace well when it comes to teaching and and it comes to teaching fundamentals I think going the fast way is the wrong way especially when you teach Fest Pace when it comes to Drilling and I teach from the feet up so that mean if you're Crossing feet you're wrong we'll do this drill over if you're stepping to your left and you stepping to your right you should know how to fight equally going both ways if you're stepping up and stepping back there's a lot of Fighters that they're only good coming forward there's some Fighters that they're only good back in up a complete fighter and the goal is to teaching good fundamentals and taking your time is that you're teaching a fighter to end up being a complete Fighter by being the fight being able to fight going every direction there is so that's just my way man and if it's not that way I think anything else is just instant gratification and something flashy to put on the real but I'm not really into that you know yes indeed yes indeed what I'mma do now brother I'mma pass it on to my partner C Ian let me introduce you C let me introduce you yeah pass it on to him all right I want to get right to it um what do you think went wrong in the fight with um zil Zan well one Jilly Jen is a serious threat like I was saying before the fight um his second punch is his best punch I went over that tons of times in training camp with Deontay um uh I I showed him film of it everything that Jil Jen do most of his Knockouts is with his right hook like you could say most dangerous southpaws and they'll actually give you a high guard so you could throw a one two so they could time your two and throw they right hook we went over it tons and tons and tons and time again and Deontay was able to aved for about a round and a half but he really got hurt in the second round when he got hit with the right hook but he was able to shake it off and then uh uh as time went on this why it's so important to drill while you're tired this is why it's so important to drill when you're extremely fatigued because the mistakes you make at the high level will cost you so we'll say that was the fifth around Deontay wasn't extremely fatigued but he was going that direction he threw a right hand in the manner that myself JD's or Don House told him not to do and he threw that right hand by by dropping his left hand and when he dropped his left hand that's the side of a right hook for Southpaw so he paid the price dearly and not did he just get hit with a a right hook by a a strong Southpaw he got hit with that guy's best shot shot yeah and then the shot have him disc coherent that it made him turn around then when he turned around just imagine somebody getting a Best Shot off on you when when you in a whole different type of state that's what made the knockout extremely bad to me when you're taking someone's shot and you're not even aware that the shot is coming coming yeah the ones you don't see like they say yes indeed now um mentally heading into this fight um with wilder talks of retirement after the fight um was there a sense of urgency in the camp from him like a now and never kind of attitude or something uh I would say like I haven't seen Deontay train this good be this focused in training camp since before stver fight uh we can ask me or we can literally get his SP guys on the line and they'll tell you exactly the things that they was going through in training camp and how violent it was in training camp he he couldn't play around in training camp because zil Jen is no joke just a big Southpaw with a hell of a pedigree that knows what he's doing and that that it's like I said the shot that he got hit with I think what was discouraging more to me than anything as a teacher is everything that we train it literally went to [ __ ] because and that's sometimes right there that that I that is sometimes what happens in boxing because I truly believe that Devin Haney and Bill Haney they did everything in their training camp to avoid Ryan Garcia's left hook I think they prepared perfectly for but what's the first shot he went out there and got hit with left boxing be boxing and life be life in sometimes and [ __ ] is and the [ __ ] is unexplainable but I'm someone that I understand the nature of mankind I'm really in tune with uh human beings and their way of thinking and right now you know you could say that there's so much imagine seeing a killer your whole their whole career then all of a sudden you're not seeing that killer no more and it's and it comes across like if you take the facts away from it a story could be made up like wow he ain't a killer no more because of Malik's SC you can't I can't take Deontay Killer Instinct away only father time can do that because can't nobody give someone a Killer Instinct this thing is in you or is not so now just to see if I'm right about that look at every killer all the way up to the second half of their career you think McBride would have had a chance at beating the early Mike Tyson you think any of those guys that no absolutely not but there's a urge or there's a a desire sometimes when Fighters get on the second half of their career they're not 22 or 23 no more like you know what I mean it's just not one of them things but um sometimes I could be too logical and too into all my common sense is real real common to me man but it's just not common to most people if anyone think I've been in this game since I've been 12 years old I'm 43 now boxing is all I do boxing is all done if someone think I'm stupid enough because it would be stupidity if they think that I would try to change Deontay Wilder into a Muhammad Ali type of fighter it's stupid I would not do that there has to be there have to be some Telltale of what he's wanting to do or or insecurity probably in him my job is to train a fighter and make him believe in himself and make him push himself through days he think he can't get through for I'm not a miracle worker like you know what I'm saying so we just had an awful night and not just even not even just The Knockout I I I really didn't even even before The Knockout we had one min Moment Like One Mini good moment Deontay hit Jen he backed him up a little bit then hit him again and backed him up but then even then I I I was very very extra alert because I know Jen he wait to fight is get overc committed hungry to go yeah there you go that's what I saying leading into the fight I'm like his hands ain't really like fast and move when he's initiating but when he counters it's it come gracious because dep he's dependent on the commit from the other fighter he knows everybody wants to throw right hands at Southpaw so he look at it like it's very very spiteful of him too in a good way the way he goes about it because he'll give you a high guard so you can throw your right hand yeah that's why that's why I was telling Deontay a lot you got to give him a faint first and then go because you just go he's gonna be whipping his right hook it's like Ryan it's like Ryan Garcia Ryan Garcia is like a cat up against the wall if you hit him with anything the first thing he going to throw is to get you walk it's his left hook h y Jen is the same way with his right hook you know what I mean and it's it's it's it's very very disappointing to just see him lay the shot that we went over and camped so many times over and over and over and over and over that that's the most disappointing to me as as a teacher because I feel as though I drilled it not just drilled it I showed examples of it I slowed the examples down we went over it we did it in sparing he continued to do it even when we was doing floor work and when we got in the ring you know just didn't go our way man and you boxing just be boxing okay now no he said before the fight um if he doesn't win his retirement have you do you know if he's made a decision on that yet um I I will say this like I I Deontay before the fight I heard him a few times say um to to me and publicly that if he lose this there a serious chance he'll go into retirement but me knowing the warrior heart and Deontay being the type of fighter you have to save from himself because when I say he's like extremely financially set up not just because he's made a whole bunch of money money M even though he has but he he squeezz a dime into the eagle screen Deontay like you know I mean he sets up his money very very well he followed a program of his accountants so his kids kids is good but even though your kids kids is good that doesn't mean mean that take this this Warrior heart away where you feel as though you can't keep fighting and you always feel as though there's one more in you and you always feel as though you gotta especially coming from where he because this is somebody that was on top before so will he fight again will he not fight again it's just up to him right now like I just want what's best for him if Deontay fight again that's his decision if he don't fight again that's his decision but either way I'm Gonna Be by his side through thick and thin because that's my brother he's just not my fighter I love him I'm forever indebted to him for the position that he put me in and he trust me with his life and you know what I mean and I see why because I know how I feel about him dearly from my heart okay yeah I I wanted I wanted to see I I want to see him make another run for that Undisputed like that's I'm like oh man if he get this fight I want I want him to go for it run for it you know she want to see and Joshua everybody still fights for him we still rooting for those fights but um yeah if he hangs it up man champ salute everything man you had hell of a career you've you you've motivated a lot of Fighters we had a young guy on last week who started fighting at 25 you know and we mentioned to him about how Wilder started late and you know what I'm saying and it's motivating for younger fighters it's it's it's very very inspiring too man and I totally get I totally get if someone knows my background as a fighter I was a safety first fighter always dressed down the defense a little bit too much too especially if you're trying to gain high on the financial letter on the financial ladder from an entertainment purpose you can't be safety first just how I was as a fighter so if someone knowing my background and my style as a boxer and then they singing Deontay all of a sudden fight on the back foot they like hold on I totally get it guys but then I totally get it she you know you know what I mean bro I totally get it up up but but at the same time I'm I'm I'm very much in tune with common sense I know what he can do and what he can't do and what he can't do is box like Perell Whitaker and Muhammad Ali it's not who he is it's not in him it's not in him it's not who he is bro you know what he is is a killer and has a designating right hand but I also believe he's at the point in his career where Fighters has been studying him so much that if he throw a right hand how he used to that regular way I think likes up like furri he got away from eight out of 10 right hands and the two that he didn't get away from it almost CAU like so now like it's not about I'll give you an example we'll go with the helenius knockout Robert helenius is an awful Fighter coming forward awful yeah he get most of his Knockouts when guys are coming to him I wasn't gonna send Beyonce right at him like that so what I did was I said we gonna walk this guy right into a bomb because he's stupid enough to do it boxing stupid not stupid as a person box of course he he came right he came right to us and he walked into a bomb that worked out for us that time he tried that same game plan with Joseph Parker it didn't work out for us but guess what Joseph Parker is a totally different fighter and his career re motivated and he's just a much better fighter all around you can say than Robert helenus especially old Robert helenius it didn't go our away that time you know what I mean I was about to ask was he was he is he at a point where he's looking for a perfect shot too much you know he he used to throw his hands and he he punched D through the gloves you know so back then he would throw in what now it seems like he's he's trying to really time a perfect shot like after The helenus Knockouts it's like it's like he's he's he's wanting that again just that perfect shot do you think that's a thing that he's looking forward to I I I think that makes I think I think you just had a very valid point right there I think from The helenius Knockout the way that he got it and knowing where he's at in his career I think even though it happened one time like that I think he may have fell in love with the way that it went because it was so he was out of the way he he he didn't have to worry about going into the jungle going going into someone offensive State and he kind of let a fight come to him so he may just got caught up on that but I look at it like this guys keep this in mind every killer no matter who they are I could name them down the list if they got with a trainer and them and they trainer strategy wasn't working or what the new train that was implementing on them wasn't working all killers are stubborn enough to say you know what but [ __ ] this I'm going back where where where is that part at in Deontay why isn't he just saying [ __ ] if if if it's the trainer okay if it's the trainer then why isn't he just saying [ __ ] it and just going for it because he may not see it like that in see you know more than anybody because we've been in this [ __ ] you know in there is different in there is different like it's easier said than done a lot of times like for instance I'm watching Jane put him in a position to get hit with his best shot I'm watching how Jen is doing his feet and cutting Deontay off so I'm telling Deonte before the punches come before Jen even start punching already start moving your head because Jen sit still so he can get the shot off that's what he did to Joseph Parker that's what he do to so many guys if they keep if if someone is in front of him Joseph Parker basically beat Jen with a faint game he just kept fainting him out of position and he never had his head just there and when he did just have a head there Jen was able to get knockdowns like you know what I mean so there's times where Deontay is just steering at and I'm telling him move your head get your head mve it even if nothing is coming because he's looking to set you up and when he was doing that he was able to get away from the big big shots but then he just got caught with that shot man and that's the shot that we trained so hard to not get caught with just yeah you know that that that crushed me to see him to see that happen like that not just to him to us because anytime Deontay win I win and when he lose I lose I stand by his side through you know what I mean you you know um we we creatures of habits you know um one thing my father used to to teach us long time ago about um trying to correct bad habits and that's required as a young man you know so what you did was you you gained an assignment that was going to try to fix things that we are normally supposed to learn when we're young like like you say 12 13 as me you know each other big on so so uh uh you can't teach a world champion fundamentals so that's a difficult task to take on some things you can fix some things you can't but so um when when I when I when you responded to my comment and I'mma play it right fast too so those could know how you this came about for the interview right and I want people to know that this is how you get people attention by being authentic and respectful because you got you gotta realize something she like when that when that happened you like you was being very opinionated like you you wasn't being kind but you just was saying this ain't nothing against Malik I just don't think they they Mash together there's nothing wrong with that bro like you know what I mean so I want I want people to hear this uh not just for for any other reason but also for the main reason that this is how you go about in my opinion getting these type of interviews going on if you're really trying to get down to the actual factual you go about it in this way and I want y'all to hear how these brothers gave their opinion in a respectful manner yes indeed brother he the worst thing he could have done was go to Malik Scott as his trainer no disrespect to Malik I just don't think he his style of boxing fitt didn't mesh right with a Deontay Wilder you can't fix that situation I think he should think he should have stuck with his his former trainer and and and to throw in the context to that for you brother Malik um my intentions was I know and and I know your mind I know the boxing mind you know we come from the same dirt from the same grounds we learned you know we've been in plenty Nationals plent TS up kids and up so you know I know you know boxing so can't nobody dispute that in no fashion she but you know what I could know boxing or someone could know boxing and train a fighter and still no one know boxing more than Emanuel Stewart him and Prince Nim they just didn't go together just go together that that was my intention that's what I meant by it I believe I believe Emanuel Stewart and Jermaine Tater they just didn't match good together match exactly exactly so I so I get the perspective of when people are saying my whole thing is just say it in a way where I could understand it but somebody people talking derogatory I can't get the message I'm trying to get the message likeing yeah yeah and you know and you know you know I I follow the rules man I I believe in the Brotherhood of boxers man we A brotherhood lifetime Brotherhood I'm not going to disrespect my brother even if I didn't like the way you know was you know so and she and she you gota realize something too man I'm I'm I'm a trainer but I'm a young trainer so you may be telling me something to make me better a year from now if you really in it like you know what I'm saying so and you may be telling me something I can say no I don't agree with that at all that's the part of just building this [ __ ] and becoming better not just as a boxing coach or a correspondent but just as people in general you know what I mean most defit most definitely man but man I'mma say this to you man keep doing what you doing it's it's it's what what what made me start paying attention to you not that all history was before Deontay Wilder before you started training I was listening to the philosophies and things that you were breaking down to other Fighters and when I thought I thought you were going to be a good fit for him at that time because I thought he needed that teacher but then I went back and thought about what my father said many years ago it's hard to fix and correct 20 years of bad habits no dis respect de I think which worked for him was the power what he had used it for what he had and you know boxing after a while things as you know Malik will catch up it's just one of those Sports where you think you can go against the rules but you can't go against them for so long right they end up eventually catching up to you but but man BR I the assignment that you did you you you gained a few wins with him in that in that situation it is what it is man and and if I'm G say this for those that are pure boxers Malik is the guy in my opinion to come to the one that want to learn how to learn chess and not Checkers that's the man to come to as a trainer so you know is that's that's that's the difference what I mean Upon A guys coming to you so I don't want people think oh Malik's not a good no don't get it confused don't Man full abely yes indeed man you got the SE um I want to go back to like what was the strategy like what was the game plan going into the fight as far as was it the curry Zang late into the fight or it was to be well aware that for for one right off the rip be very very alert especially early on in the first three four rounds because in the first three four rounds is where Jen is at his most dangerous as the fight get progressing Jen has fatigue issues and his mannerisms goes to [ __ ] and you're able to get incredible shots off on him just because he goes to [ __ ] when he gets fatigued so my whole thing was the game plan was to stay alert don't overcommit and when you do throw the right hand make sure the left hand is up because the hook is coming the return is coming always to respect the return and also but I want to take the slack on this if this is considered sing any slack I didn't Deontay out there straight off the rip to just start throwing wild punches at Jen and if anybody think that should have been the game plan that's something that me and them will always disagree on because I know at this level guys are setting traps guys are extremely heavy-handed and Deontay is on the second half of his career and it's just not time to take dumb chances that early with someone's that strong and early like you know what I'm saying that's why I say it was the game plan to go long cuz I know zang's stamina issues Infamous it was it was it was to play the long game but if we able to catch him early from being responsible from being having good defense and being alert then yeah catch him and get him out of there but don't take unnecessary chances early ha Jang did Jane didn't really take unnecessary chances early if he could have done more early he would have he just couldn't because Deontay was keeping a probe out there then a hard jab than a probe out there and by the fact of Jen knowing what Deontay possessed he wasn't being done nether just coming for it so he can run into something you know right now what improvements have you seen in Wilder since you've been training uh what improvements have I have I seen in Deontay I will say that I could tell you the attempts and the efforts he made uh the efforts that he's made has to be to be more defensively responsible with his lead hand up Deontay being 67 there's a lot he don't have to do to be defensively responsible it kind of puts me in the frame of uh lenx Lewis didn't have a ultimate incredible head movement game but what he did have he had a big left hand to stay out there so you had first first you had to get past this to even get to here Larry Holmes didn't have an incredible head slip game but what he did have was a big left hand to keep out there and it would it was a buffer for him it would give him time to see so Deontay I noticed that position right there that I constantly was on him with and that's not even something that I taught him that's something that I made him go back cuz if you look at a lot of his early on fights Deontay will fight like this like a big man and make you get past this to get here you so things of that nature um uh thinking more clearly that if you miss a right hand then come back with your hook but they'll come back with your hook with your hand on the phone be it I I would like to say the the the thought or the effort of being more responsible because you know the return is coming to me that's the Improvement you can say that I made with the Deon even if things that he he wouldn't do well the the the things I see him attempt to try to become better at is things of that nature being more defensively responsible that if you miss a right hand you should have an answer for it you shouldn't just be totally out the way staying in your base not H not Crossing feet so much and speaking of that I want because I I like to get into everything bro like whatever almost like it's it's almost like so we'll say Perell Whitaker I've seen Perell Whitaker Bend all the way down to the ground and people clap you know why people clapping admire and people play copy care for it because it worked but I also seen prell do that before and it have cost him knockdowns and people say he play too much I didn't seen boots in this and sparing crack people spin around crack him again turned around put his hand behind his back then boom it worked on that spawn partner so people not saying he play too much I've seen there's a clip going around of Deontay like just showing athleticism not really doing nothing fundamentally he's spinning around him and Don house is doing this stick thing he spins around now the way how the universe work when he get hit with a good shot the other day it just put put it put put him in a disc coherent place and he almost spent around so people was comparing that clip to him just playing having a fun having a fun moving in training camp and saying I taught him that like how can I saw that see that's def representation of what crazy you got real yeah but we're in a time where and not not either a fact of that's not me that's not I've never seen no trainer teach that's what I'm saying I know you're not gonna go against it but for the sake but for the sake of clickbait and for the of let's run with this momentum on Malik Scott everything matters like to like that you stop looking for all these excuses stop look the real [ __ ] is Jen is a hell of a fighter he's a big man he's a dangerous Southpaw Deontay is on the second half of his career he went in went in in tried to get it done it didn't go our way if Deontay did a spin move and then it work people wouldn't even could criticize the thing he just was having a fun moment in training camp we was in training camp seven eight weeks Fighters do that [ __ ] sometimes like you know what I mean loose they ran with that clip they ran with that one brother I saw that one I I didn't think that was n [ __ ] that was going to teach nobody no like that's not who I that's not a representation my teaching or no real teacher you know what I mean that's just having fun in Camp managers trying to make time go fast you know what I'm saying yeah just this this new this new internet thing like I said see everything I tell people all the time if we had these phones back when we was kids y'all would boxing Gods man I'm telling you they run with it all man bro the stuff we was doing back in the day you thought we was boxing Gods man I'm telling you man I'm telling you but uh the fact that I have an understanding thank God man he because he gave me a clear head and a real liberated mindset that I understand even the nonsense I have an understanding of even the [ __ ] I have an understanding of clickbait that's why I gravitated to y'all because it wasn't clickbait it was true opinion right what I'm saying it's a difference between someone saying something that's for clickbait and someone saying something no these brothers really feel like this and we need to talk about it like men look M materialize know what I'm saying look at the yes indeed okay now there's been a lot said about your relationship and friendship while the interfering with your ability to train him some people calling you a Yes Man and things like that being thrown around how would you retort those statements I just would like them to show me cuz I'm an example guy if you show me I'm like this even when I teach I'm like this when I even teach Deontay there's tons of times I've told Deontay something he said no bro I don't agree with that and I say oh you don't let's look at the film [ __ ] what I'm saying we gonna look at I'm a film study Joy you can't tell me what you thinking when I could tell you what we're seeing you know what I'm saying so in that case I just need them to show me when I'm being a yes man because I'm the one that's my myself and Don house is the one that's up making sure he's on the track at 700 a.m. in the morning I'm the the one when he's tired 10 11 rounds pushing him through sparring that he get 15 rounds in like when is this going on when I'm the one after the fight on him this is on video fight fight Hub sent me a video the other day that after the fight when he's like he's emotionally and I'm sitting there telling them like no this was our mistake you did this that you got hit with the shot so I just need them to show me because if I am having a Yes Man moment I ain't going to do nothing but say you know what guys I see what y'all saying yall right but don't just say [ __ ] and y'all don't have proof of it where is it at CU I want to agree with it if it's right if I did I'm not perfect sometimes like my son or my little brother they could say something I'll say yeah just to be on their side but I just need to see it like show me when I'm doing that show me since we since since we in this time of instant gratification and everybody is taping [ __ ] well if y'all taping everything and y'all got this stuff to say then show me when even bro they saying all this stuff about this stting third if they saying anything about a trainer then show him in the corner why aren't they they they do they showing all this other [ __ ] oh he went and uh he walked past deon's dead body and went and hugg the trainer bro shut I saw that weird stuff too I'm like that's weird yo my f my fighter is up on his feet the ref got us I told the world that Deontay Was Gonna Knock Jen out I told him this after the fight the best man won I want to congratulate my brother Sean George and then I get right back to my fighter and not just that I get back to my fighter I guide him out the ring cuz he's discer right now and when Deontay look up in his last fights when he look up and he's at the doctor who's right there with him it's me it's me next next to him like so it's certain things that actually make no sense but for the sake of this clickbait thing man people just like man you know C brought that c brought that to my attention yesterday I didn't know about it he said man they going around saying that he walked over I didn't know nothing sometimes right they they they're so good at [ __ ] that make me say like damn was he still laying down and I walked over his body I had to I had to go back and watch the fight again right I said and I look I'm like oh he went over he went over they like no he went over and huged Zan and was like yeah hugging I'm like he went over dapped the corner up and walked right exactly but bro it's it's not it's not true and Denzel Washington said it the best you could become good at anything if you do it long enough even bullshitting and it don't get no more try than that like it's so many good bullshitters out here they vicious man right and if you don't know how to use it and if you don't know how to use it for your entertainment purposes you can get caught up in the mix of that [ __ ] you just can and you got believe it or not man you got people that been in this game that know better that they still could get caught up into that [ __ ] like hold on bro you know better you've been in this [ __ ] you've been a champion you've been a contender you know how this [ __ ] go they didn't pulled you in on this like oh man that's crazy man A lot of times be a lot of these Fighters that do that type of [ __ ] they more into it's that should have been me I should have been the one in this Camp you know how it go I should it should have been me so they look for every F they can find brother that should have been me in this almost like they waiting for it it's all it come across like they're just waiting for it like it's like crazy man yeah that's how uh uh that that that that for one thing for sure that that comes with the Deontay Wilder umbrella because when Deontay just had JD's as his trainer people were saying who the [ __ ] is that white guy in this corner they need to get rid of him he ain't teaching them nothing so then they board in Russ Amber and board in Mark Breeland when Mark Breeland and Russ Amber was training Deontay said man somebody need to teach him how to have some skills he's hard he's wild he's this that when Malik Scott come in they say why got Malik Scott as a transist in the third then okay so now you'll take that away so now bro just eight months ago they were saying darck James was overrated he wasn't [ __ ] yeah they was it's crazy just last month they you know what I'm saying so the thing with this no the thing with this Noble art is it it it it runs in rotation and if the ball and if the ball drop on your time for you to take this [ __ ] the same way the good times go go and you have humility I got the same humility right now when it's a bad time for us nothing has changed you know what I mean yes indeed brother to your philosophies man it's it's um it's necessary in this day and time man for these young Fighters man because yeah I've been I've been bear witness to some guys that you know no disrespect to the even to the football player coach trainers that decide to help the youngest they we need somebody to do it but I respect wholeheartly the teachers that have been there and done it just my and that's the way I am because I come from it the same the same mud you know what I'm saying yes yes teach is who I'm gonna respect so you know absolutely man and and I'm very very big on when I'm doing interviews I'm very very big on whatever it is you will have questions about and it and it could be any part of my life bro we right here ask me every [ __ ] thing bro yes inde I don't don't don't don't edit I am not a edit human being I am not you take that part out human being I'm doing doing this for for myself and this platform because I respect it I don't want don't never hold back a question with me bro because I'm here for y'all you know what I mean I ain't gonna do nothing but if you can accept the truth and I'm the guy for you I Ain here to make it seem like I'm something that I'm not I'm not here to dance round questions I'm shooting straight you know what I mean yes indeed so brother um I wanted that Anthony Joshua would fight I was before the fight I was pushing you know why I wanted it because it's one of those you remember when Mike Tyson and holy food they both were at their end of their careers basically and it still was one of those fights that was that was still that 50 million hundred million dollar fight yes you know do you do you think that still is possible for them too to still a even after this L that um Wilder took you think this is this still possible for that fight to still happen now I I think in boxing especially in the heavyweight division anything is possible bro and I think when you're at the high level like Deontay and AJ is especially with turkey and the Saudi Arabia and whole uh congregation has came in the box and really took over I believe that anything that's possible what it's all about if if Turkey want to see it this dude uh is an extreme lover of the sport of boxing he puts on he he believe in nothing but good matchups he's not he don't believe in influencer boxing and I believe also nobody wanted to AJ Deontay fight more than him so we'll see I believe I believe anything is still possible man we'll see but first first things first like it's like I tell Deontay I'm very very much interested in him getting rest uh uh a full health check enjo enjoying some of the fruits of his labor thinking you know what I mean a lot more clearly on a island or something by itself and then come back to things and see how he feel I'm not one of these trainers that I'm talking to Deontay already about his next fight that's not that not after a loss like that I'm not thinking about his next fight I'm think definitely I understand that pure heartedly fullart man it's it's one of those uh right now this just a recovering mindset uh um clear your mind go get your thoughts together yes make sure your body's intact and things of that nature so I truly I'm with you on that brother all the way man yes sir brother all right I just got a couple more questions I want to ask let get them bro uh how was the transition for you from boxing to training uh it was it was automatic because just like she uh cuz it's like BR we come from this [ __ ] so it's almost like when you when you come up in this game especially how Fred Jenkins had us he always had us if he wasn't training us we was training each other he always was making sure I watch film so my I was guided to be a trainer anyway it just so happened that uh Deontay Wilder um he lost against Tyson Fury he got rid of Mark Breeland he loved my boxing brain he loved my my love for the game my knowledge standpoint he hired me as his trainer and I've been going forward ever since the transition wasn't hard to me because I've been a film study junkie I I've been training Fighters I've been training myself I was a fighter it's humanly impossible to be in the game since 12 years old to 43 years old and not know what you're doing I'm sorry guys it's just it's just impossible like you know what I mean you can't I'm not your local pad guy that's copycatting off of YouTube and Thena I don't come from that like I'm not one of those guys I really eat sleep and breathe this [ __ ] even on the good days but even more on the bad days yes indeed the minute I got off the plane my lady she had my whole film study thing already back in order um all my vhs's all my not so I'm right back in the lab already so the transition was good because it is who I am anyway yeah nice and what do you enjoy most about training other boxers development development is my favorite it's my favorite if you ask me what's my favorite thing about boxing in general or my favorite thing about you could say watching fights is development it's development I love watching a fighter do something in the gym and taking it from the gym strictly into a fight and I could it's almost like I could lit literally watch the gym exercise and then have a clip from a fight and put it together and see how that was done and it's that's probably my favorite thing film study and development and drilling I love drill I Love Drilling boring I Love Drilling Fighters until they Bor until they board and they push past that boredom and they push past that fatigue and guys you got to keep something in mind I'm not training a Deontay Wilder that's 20 years old I'm training a fighter that is already down the rabbit hole so much so my my job coming in is like it's not as easy as people would think because he's already who he is I'm just trying my best to continue to make sure what he do well just add on to it I I can't change Deontay Wilder I know people like I just can't he's a killer he has he has a good right hand and my job to just give him options on how to throw the right handed I feel as though that he wasn't doing good right that's been my whole um point and after I uh after you contacted me and I and I sat back and I listened I I thought about it I said you know and I did mention that in in our uh discussion later on in that whole entire uh segment that I was just saying there just some things that you just can't fix for him that's what I meant by that I meaning it's just it was it's kind of hard to fix me things if you have like 30 40 profession I I mean I can go back to amateurs you got 30 amateur fights it's difficult to change a fight if somebody yeah yeah that that would take time that would take that would take time and bad habits are very difficult to fix in a sport where it requires instincts and somebody hitting you because somebody can hit you and everything in your game plan goes all the way out brother know hit you and that [ __ ] it happened the other night it happened the other night well getting hit getting hit and then all of a sudden like remembering oh when I do that I gotta keep this hand this [ __ ] is easier said than done it's gone and I think I think the closest way to fix that is your training don't begin until you're tired you got to be able to do when you're extremely you just have to like you got to drill even when you're tired you just have to because it's going to come a time in the fight where things get uncomfortable and how do you think then how your decis how was your decision making then if you only doing [ __ ] when you're fresh if you only doing [ __ ] for real then after the real seconds is over you're like all right that's it co that lay it down in the fight yeah yeah real talk you know my father used to have a saying too man the fight don't start until you get tired that's facts man that's facts and that's why I be telling a lot of these young this what this what pisses me off when I look on social media and see the the sparring partners they beating on their sparing partners and things of that they post that kind of [ __ ] you know when we was coming to she that that that was like you only hear probably sense we never really I don't even take about that [ __ ] hell no we would never you know it was between me and my spawn partner man yeah that was like that was like a that was like a you know what you come drop the other day nobody nobody that was like a a quiet thing exactly man you and that's why I got this thing too I'm old school like you man I tell I don't take film into I don't take my camera when I see somebody spawn we cut the cameras off not nobody spawn never bro we don't do that you know that's when the cameras come on because that's the time that you be at your vone that's when you become vulnerable that's when you your most vulnerable moment exactly exactly now a fighter could get in the ring and Spar and by the time he get out somebody already got his spawn on you already got it it's already circula on the internet that's real talk already circula man and and youngest got to learn to add those things like little things like small little uh Unwritten rules like no spawn should be recorded that should be already planed imp planted in your mind because this war we boxing is war I'm seeing how you're leaving your right hand down or you know what I'm saying slow Jabs or anything I can take this and I can use it against you in war remember back in the Nationals when you know guys like your your guys from Philly like rock and tiger and all those guys man Ricardo them Cincinnati guys they will be filming us yeah in in the in the tournaments by the time we got there they knew I had a slow right hand they already yo they was already Mike Mike Stanford would be on it I'm trying to tell you man they would be filming you and already know your weaknesses that's why I'm against the filming man it's F remember back it was it was pure War back then man I'm trying big time so so I'm old school bro but C you got it man yeah I just got a couple more um what's your philosophy what's your philosophy to coaching coaching philosophy like is it live behind a jab like uh it's it's it's uh teaching from the feet up first and my favorite you could say my favorite position is in boxing is lead Hand high it's not it's not it's not Mayweather style it's not Philly shell especially for a tall guy I believe that everybody every tall guy should have the Linux Lewis Larry Holmes effect I think they should make people pay the price to get close to them here I think that they should have a buffer I think they should have a shield here to give them time to get here so that and if you have time you can see more if you can see more you can counter punch quick if you can counter punch quick your opponent is not allowed to punch back so like that my everything I I I teach Deonte I didn't have people tell me this I teach Deonte and a and and you could say any other fight or any other client I train with the same humility it's it's only seven to 10 punches in boxing anyway this [ __ ] is not chines arithmetic obviously do I go in more detail because the states is higher for a Deontay yes but my whole thing is protect yourself at all times and at the same time be aggressive but at the same time be alert and at the same time have intelligence when it come to defense okay and last question I got is what advice would you give to a young boxer or a young trainer looking to step into the professional ranks a young boxer I I would definitely advise them to eat sleep and breathe this game I don't think no young boxer should have a girlfriend I think they should I isolate the themselves to the most exaggerated number give them a a strong 10 to 12 year span to get everything they can get out of this and then get out I don't think this is the this is the game to be in as a boxer more than 10 years I just don't think and most Fighters they get caught up into the money scheme of things and I'm a firm believer that if you get $10 million liquidate I believe you could live like a billionaire but I believe you make but I believe if you make $1 million you can't live like somebody that make $10 million1 million $1 million to10 million is a huge gap concerning living but people that do things that have a hundred million and people that have 10 someone that have a 10 million dollars liquidated it's not much that you can do that I can't besides own something I give you an example a billionaire could own an island a 10 mil somebody that has 10 million they can just enjoy an island and then leave it yeah you know what I'm saying it life is about like a quality of life man I think like for for young Fighters they should be more interested more interested in a quality of life instead of worrying about it's just like the ferous [ __ ] that don't mean nothing exactly get get as much memories as you can get focus on your craft get with a good teacher get with somebody that they care about your well-being more than they care about their pockets it's very hard to find but if you look long enough you can find and when it to trainers I believe that boxing shouldn't be done when you leave a boxing gym I think you should take this [ __ ] home I think every trainer should film study I think every trainer should film study slow I think every trainer should learn drills I don't think you should literally look at moves and then go teach a fighter a move I think you should look at a move that you may admire and say okay how do I drill this into my system there you go so it's just not a move if I have a system then I have options I could give my options but you just playing it's a lot of CopyCat they going nowadays because people inant gratification they can go on YouTube and say oh I'm go try that no see a move and say no I want to drill that so when I do do it it's a real move a part of my Arsenal meaning behind it too a meaning behind it yes so that's all man that's that's all it's ABC [ __ ] the Fred Jenkins way from North Philadelphia you know yes indeed yes indeed man see yeah man you know you mentioned that about these uh instant gratification trainers out here or you got guys that get on here you you ever see those clips where guys would see like Mike Tyson and throw uppercut to the body uppercut to the head and then he'll he'll imitate it and then he'll think no man that's not that simple man you know works and and what real crazy is like that person will get 1,800 million likes for that exactly five 160 good comments for that that's because people are more interested in what they see and not what they like what they feel of was right mean things that's meaningful don't go a long way in this lifetime that we're in go a long lifetime is what people what makes people feel comfortable or make people feel that they can do see if someone see what I do at night they would knock it down because they know they can't do it they're not gonna look at they're not gonna look at for fights of Shakura Stevenson going 12 rounds because they don't they can't even identify with it because they caught up in what the media say that he's born when when really he's no different than what Pernell Whitaker was doing at that same very age beat [ __ ] out of guys for 12 rounds and his gen is genius in that but you have to have some form of P I don't have patience for anything else besides film study my patience is shot with anything else but if I could have it anyway I would much rather be a overthinker than like most people nowadays that they to think it all real talk brother and then you know that's one of the things we was discussing because you know a lot of people didn't know I was a musician as well right yeah I heard about that yes inde yeah yeah yeah so um that's just like boxing and music go together in some form always always have always have so I'm I'm a like a a a John cold train opposed to a um what's his name Kenny G i Kenny G to me is playing C major music and John cold train improvisational skills is what I'm looking at right and I'm listening to and how he's he's doing his chromatic scales and and and just you know breaking down different notes or whatever so right you take uh uh a basic Kenny G who was who got good tone but he's I like Kenny G I don't care what you say he's playing basic music that people understand but is the same way I I want to see somebody 12 rounds be able to get hit be able to hit and not get hit is what my eyesight likes to see so everybody got their own preference of boxing like some people you gota realize something too like do I love watching tank go in there and disengage for six rounds and make guys overcommit then knock them out yeah I'm in all of that I love it yeah I love it like every aspect of this game I enjoy like every and theup shot is beautiful it's beautiful if you see him set the Trap up that's just like still literally watching somebody improv on the stage you know my main my main one I go to all the time is RI and just I think RI andile's A Beautiful Boxer man and people just don't appreciate it man incredible incredible man incredible yeah brother it was an honor and a pleasure man to have you stop here and time anytime bro just hit anything I have me and Deontay you know I'm bringing Deontay on this joint too bro man yeah man you know bro you you came through for
