[Music] let's head down to the coin toss now it's brought to you by coke zero real coca-cola taste and zero calories enjoy everything [Applause] both teams are on the field and we're just about ready to open things up and with that we kick off our season he's to the 20. and he's tackled at the 27. the knights offense [Applause] [Music] is just the intangibles that he brings to the table we've been seeing this guy make plays over the weeks but the thing that i really recognize is his ability to really lead this football team things are going well he's patting everybody on the back and things are not going well he's trying to pick him back up and getting him ready to go so not only does he physically have the tools but also i really love the way he approaches the game [Applause] this comes down to the timing between the quarterback and the receiver and the result again a nice play for the offense [Applause] so the option play gets some big yards right there yeah you know it's amazing how sometimes this guy is able to find a hole and get through [Applause] he gets to about the 24 yard line so they go on the ground and pick up another first down they are stringing together a nice little drive here if they keep this up it'd be hard to keep them out of the end zone [Applause] has some daylight [Applause] first down 10 yards to go on the 11 yard line nice run to the outside [Applause] quick throw in the end zone touchdown that'll be a big boost you always want to capitalize on these short yardage situations and that pass was an excellent call and he takes on the extra point quick update there here's reid the wildcats enter today's game ranked ninth in the country this game was tighter than spandex on a sumo wrestler the wildcats get the w 20 to 17. meanwhile the cougars came into the game ranked 10th after the hard-fought loss will the pollsters keep them high in the rankings did not think it was possible a major upset today arizona wins it 31-14 all right thanks a lot rhys everyone's all lined up and ready for the kickoff excellent kick this one's going to be down in the end zone for a touchback now the offense gets ready to take their first crack at it [Applause] he's taken down for a loss and the defense just swarmed over him yeah they were able to penetrate the offensive line and get to the running back before that play even had a chance from their own 21-yard line second down [Applause] he's out to the 30. and down he goes at the 44. from their own 44-yard line first down before he could get back to the line the defense was playing wrong all the way right there and it paid off [Applause] [Music] he kept it himself and picked up a good looking first down great execution and a good decision there by the quarterback [Applause] first down 10 to go ball on the 42-yard line [Applause] that was the junior linebacker who gave credit with the tackle there [Applause] on the ground up the middle and they make the stop at the 41-yard line third down and they need to get it down to the 32. [Music] [Applause] that's a great tackle at the 37 evans picks up about four yards with a catch [Applause] [Music] [Applause] he gets it up not a very good attempt there for the software kicker still our score 7-0 ucf so their last drive resulted in six points do you think we'll see the same result on this one they ran the ball extremely well on their last drive and until this defense figures out how to stop it i think they'll have no problem moving the ball on the field he makes his way to about the 45. central florida is up seven he's taken down right around the 42-yard line [Applause] got some open fields [Applause] he tackles him for a loss boy did you see how the defense just swarmed to the ball carrier that was fantastic pursuit [Applause] from the 38-yard line third down [Applause] to the receiver that falls incomplete sure it's disappointing but this is the kind of mechanical flaw you can fix with practice and coaching central florida can make this a two possession game with this field goal it has the distance and it's wide right no good let's go to the studio for this reese davis update the pirates get the victory 24-21 in other games have a look at what's going on in annapolis this was a tight one to the very end the thundering herd by by four thanks rhys 7-0 game here you never like to have to play from behind but a deficit this manageable shouldn't be in the front of their minds they just need to go out there and play and he is drilled at the 40-yard line a yard maybe two on the carry they're lucky he was able to hang on to the football he took a pretty good shot [Music] second and eight coming up here all in their own 40. [Applause] and got his man and he's taken down at about the 43-yard line [Applause] that series left the offense scratching their heads a little outstanding pressure here on the quarterback they sent every one of those linebackers and even though they couldn't get to the quarterback they were able to prevent the first down turn down [Music] certainly they don't have the return on here [Applause] yes to about the 37-yard line we're about set to start things up again central florida is up by a touchdown [Applause] and here's a quick throw almost picked off smart heady play by that defender that was solid fundamental pass defense so it's third down now and they're gonna need about four [Applause] he's going right in the air it's intercepted they'll bring him down right around the 44-yard line he just jumped up and snatched that ball well there i don't think the quarterback even saw him the defender went up into the air and made a great catch [Music] first and ten while on the 44. and he's tackled around the 40-yard line you talk about a dual threat guy this guy can hurt you in the air or on the ground he's got it out to his tight end tackled at about the 27-yard line from the 27-yard line it's first [Applause] we down [Music] [Applause] [Music] here we go he makes it to the 25-yard line third down now they need to get it to the 17. [Music] quick out to his receiver tackle made around the 17-yard line that was a really nice play on the ball by the receiver for a substantial gain and a first down quick throw picked off got an opening inside the 10. he's all the way home touchdown how about the play by the defender that was a great interception and an even better effort to bring the ball back for a touchdown and he hits the p-80 the kicker looks like he's ready to kick this one off he really got a hold of that kick he's to the 20. tackle made to 25. the knights are smothering the opposition so far today what's this offense got to do to get off the schneider well you talk to offensive coordinators about that and they'll say we've got to find our go-to guy who are our players that we know we can count on and what are the plays that we typically feel the most confident about that's usually where the offenses tend to go when they're getting shut down he makes it to the 28 yard line from their own 28-yard line it's second down slings not much going on there those kind of plays will not work against this defense you can be sure that [Music] [Music] [Applause] and he tackles them hard at the 43-yard line quarterbacks love it when they have a wide receiver who can take a lateral pass and turn it into a big gain like this i mean not only is it an easy throw but it looks great for the quarterback stats [Applause] from their own 43-yard line first down and he makes it out to about the 44-yard line [Applause] there are three quarters remaining the knights lead it by two touchdowns welcome back here we resume action now here in the second quarter he makes it out to maybe the 46-yard line third down and they need to get it inside the 47. [Applause] but it's incomplete [Applause] johnson back deep to return [Applause] you think about the challenges these two teams are facing on one side you've got to find a way to keep building on your lead and on the other side you've got to find a way to get back in it so an empty backfield with five wide receivers got a man but he's tackled back behind the line of scrimmage loss of a yard really they just had nowhere to go after the catch defensive coordinator anticipating this five wide set and he comes in with his dime package there's a strike complete he's down five picks up about five yards on that hookup [Music] [Applause] [Applause] and they've got the dime package in there to try and deal with this five receiver one [Applause] great concentration to pull it in now right around [Applause] and [Music] [Applause] [Applause] from the 20-yard line it's second down [Applause] [Music] [Applause] they're gonna go for the easy three here [Applause] kicks away and it's quits the uprights [Applause] central florida is ready to kick it away it's fielded at the two he's to the 20. heading for the corner he gets hit out of bounds at the 50-yard line right as good as this defenses look i'm not necessarily surprised by this shutout i mean you and i were there on wednesday watching this team practice and when this first team defense goes against their own first team offense in a practice sometimes it's actually better than the game itself so they've prepared themselves very well to have this kind of game he makes it out to maybe the 49-yard line from the 49-yard line second down and down he goes around the 44-yard line [Music] [Applause] throws to the back quickly on his hands incomplete [Applause] [Music] [Applause] bounces into the end zone and this will be a touch back the knights over the years have had great quarterbacks they've got another one he's proving to be that here in the first half and he's the true leader of the screwdriver leadership you hit the nail right on the head this team is is moving the football but it has everything to do with this young man and what he's been able to do for them because it's again he's making great throws uh he's making good checks the thing that's standing out to me is his leadership and the way this team responds to that leadership and that's why this team right now has played as well as they have second down 10 to go ball on the 20. on the screen and he's level at the 29. [Applause] bowser takes the give runs it right nice pickup [Applause] from their own 31-yard line second [Applause] down for a nice game [Applause] the punt upcoming and they're going to come after this one it's a way and it's a booming punt he makes it out maybe to the 26-yard line things are on the verge of getting out of hand before we even hit the half these next few drives are going to go a long way in determining what kind of game this will end up being that's a great tackle at the 44-yard line quarterbacks just love this scenario he had his man one-on-one on a corner out versus man coverage and you just saw it it results in an easy first down [Applause] first and ten balling their own 44. he passes it it's intercepted broke away from one boy just when it looked like they had a chance to get right back into this game they throw the interception now it's still early let's see if their defense can bail him out we've got a first and ten fall on the 38th [Applause] he's got a lot in the backfield [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] he's taken down about the 29-yard line [Applause] gives it to the back he's at the 20 and he's shut down the 18-yard line here he goes and they make the stop right around the 10 yards [Applause] first goal [Applause] touchdown this kid is a really reliable weapon you definitely want the football in his hands near the end zone and he showed you why right there [Applause] [Music] he splits the uprights with the extra point central floor gets set to kick this one away he'll return it from the one he's to the 20. and down he goes at the 24-yard line it's still only the second quarter we've got a lot of football left but i gotta say this one is teetering on the brink of a blowout he lets it fly got it to the 20 to the 10. touchdown broncos [Applause] the wide receiver flew down the field on that touchdown connection well he has to speed the stretch to defense and his hands are getting better every single game boy that was an easy throw for the quarterback had to be a mistake of some kind or miscommunication by the defense in that secondary but the quarterback finds is a receiver wide open for the touchdown [Applause] they line up to kick this one away sends it sailing downfield he's to the 20th he's tackled at the 25-yard line the knights are sitting pretty now after getting out to that slow start at the beginning yeah things were a little sluggish early but my gosh these last few series they just seem to be at this point just kind of setting a tone and kind of having their way against this defense things are on the verge of getting out of hand before we even hit the half these next few drives are going to go a long way in determining what kind of game this will end up being he makes his way out to about the 35. [Applause] and he's tackled after positive yardage makes it up the middle for a nice run [Applause] [Applause] third down now and they need to get it inside the 49ers [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] nice job getting a hand on that one yeah really good heads-up play there to get a hand on the football by the defense [Applause] certainly they don't have the return on here [Applause] and he makes it out to about the 21-yard line a touchdown was the end result of their last drive as this offense moved the ball very well with their passing game i think the defense right now is just sitting back on their heels they're allowing the offense to kind of dictate things today and one thing is that any defensive coordinator will tell you in the country you have to be the one trying to dictate things to the office so change it up try something different it's not working you can't continue to sit back boise state just took their first time out two minutes left in the hands [Applause] well these days you've got safeties playing up close to the line of scrimmage almost like a fourth linebacker the only way that you can keep them from cheating up is to take some chances downfield they'll make this out but we talked all week with these coaches and even when we met with them yesterday out of practice they told us there were some big concerns about facing these defensive ends they thought that they might be able to hold up against it maybe get the ball out of the pocket a little bit quicker maybe use running backs and tight ends to help with double teams on the outside but right now whatever they thought they might be able to do you better get back to that because these defensive ends are just too quick so no luck on that drive as they go three and outs at the 39. it's still only the second quarter we've got a lot of football left but i gotta say this one is teetering on the brink of a blowout [Applause] he's looking for six and it's picked off it's the safety a well-timed interception there well they're still down by a couple of scores but the turnover certainly helps their chances if they score on this drive they're right back in the game first down 10 yards to go ball on the 20-yard line here comes the pressure just throws this one away pressure and run down so the sack makes this bird in very long [Applause] give to the tailback they'll bring him down at the 14-yard line the knights using their third and last timeout johnson the return [Applause] he's taken down the 47-yard line you know the offense will be looking to do better this time out giving the ball away can rattle your confidence but he just needs to relax and not try to force it he's starting off in great field position now that was a nice play anything you can do without being penalized to prevent the offense from moving forward is always a plus it's second and ten ball on the 47-yard line they spread the field in the gun with five wide receivers open field he's pushed out of bounds around the 38 yard line [Applause] spikes the ball from the 35-yard line second down [Applause] he steps out right around the 48-yard line [Applause] what do you think they'll do i don't know what they'll do but i think they should just kick the field goal it's early in the game so i'd take the safe three points fourth down so the kicker comes out he'll try to put three points on the board it's up and it's good time for an update from the studio reese what have you got the bulldogs came into the game ranked seven they're now bungee jumping and the four is going to break the upset is complete and for hawkins he ended up with two touchdown runs in the game the rebels get the w 23-7 27-6 a three-touchdown difference here everyone's all lined up and ready for the kickoff he'll take it from the two got the corner he wasn't breaking that tackle what a hit things are on the verge of getting out of hand before we even hit the half these next few drives are going to go a long way in determining what kind of game this will end up being i guess he'll throw this one as far as he can and hope for a miracle incomplete pass so we played two quarters ucf in front 27-6 [Music] we've played 30 minutes glad to have you with us on the ea sports ncaa football 14 halftime show presented by nissan innovation that excites david pollock and i here in the studio to break down everything that just happened in your game every time it seemed as if we were seeing one of these offenses get into a rhythm they'd give it right back by coughing up the football so how discouraging is that for an offense it's definitely frustrating because you move the ball down the field up and down up and down and then when you get in bad situations and you start making really bad plays and it's okay not it's okay to punt the football and i think sometimes guys don't realize that they press they try to make the big play it's not there it's okay you don't have to worry about it a punt's not a bad play a field goal is not a bad play as opposed to throwing an interception you know in the red zone so i think it's just it's understanding that when you do move the football and plays aren't there to be made don't try to be a hero throw it away take care of the ball and make sure you try to get some points or punt because punt's not the worst playing football that's going to do it for david and me here in the studio time to get you back to the game red and kirk ready to take you home in the second half [Music] all right reese and david welcome back everybody just about set to start the second half he sends this one deep this one's going to be down in the end zone for a touchback the knights continue to get it done on the defensive side of the football kirk yeah they've done a good job of building this lead and almost determined here to protect it let's see if they can hold on here for the rest of the way there's got to be some sense of urgency to this offense right now they don't have a luxury of wasting drives if they want to get back in the game pulls down the catch and he's got room here tackle made right around the 38-yard line [Applause] it's first and ten ball on their own 38. they'll get him for a loss so the toss to the halfback doesn't work that's a loss of about three on the play [Music] [Applause] throws it in a hurry he's tackles right around the 42-yard line now it's third and six coming up all on the 42-yard line [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] smart heady play by that defender that was solid fundamental pass defense johnson awaiting the return [Applause] [Music] he makes it to the 28 yard line so you wonder what kind of excitement we'll see this time around man open and he dropped it from their own 28 yard line hit second down [Music] [Applause] [Music] completed he might have a chance gets out to around 35. [Applause] about the 15-yard line [Applause] and he's level at the 23. he just blew past the blockers and dragged the quarterback down boy excellent play by the defense here a few extra seconds and those receivers might have been open [Music] defense looking for another sack in the second down and long situation little screen pass at the 14. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] touchdown and did that play ever developed nicely it's all about the receiver on this play he beat his man off the line and then ran a perfect run all he had to do after that is make the catch and it takes some real accuracy on those deep corner routes so kudos to the quarterback and he adds the extra point an eight-play 73-yard drive and it's good for seven points yeah well you can throw the football as well as these guys can you don't necessarily always have to have a balanced attack because you're so proficient in throwing the ball so the score now 34-6 and it goes into the end zone down for a touch back the night staff has got a winner on their hands you've been around kids like this they're just fun to be right they're fun to be around and i think it's infectious his attitude i think permeates throughout this entire offense and really throughout the entire team it's no wonder this team is so competitive with him at the front leading the way and they make the stop at about the 33-yard line so it's second down and about two yards to go [Applause] around the 27 yard line [Applause] touchdown boise state they look awesome on that play a well-thrown football and a great effort to get the ball into the end zone [Music] [Applause] he splits the uprights with the extra point a short three-play 75-yard drive and the result seven points boy that is scoring in a hurry this offense is looking more and more explosive the score now 34-13 fielded at the four and he just got stood up right there the knights had that high hand on offense and they just keep on going here in quarter number three the greatest thing you can say about these guys today is consistency they are moving the football and putting points up on the board they're going to be tough to beat the offense was able to punch it in the end zone on that last drive they'll come back out looking for more of the same this quarterback right now is in a rhythm and a lot of that has fires in a hurry interception the ball pops free and it's picked up by one of a lineman he's taken down right around the 44 yard line and they're lucky to retain possession of the ball there it's been going their way all day and that won't change here [Music] we've got a first and ten while on the 44. [Music] [Applause] brad this week these coaches told us about how they want their players to fight and really be determined here they are down by a couple scores and the defense comes up with a big interception showing that character that their coaches wanted to see first and sand ball on their own 42. they're gonna pitch it nice gain as he works the right side [Applause] from their own 47-yard line second down and down he goes [Applause] more than you usually expect from a tight end that was a big gain and this offense keeps humming along first down 10 to go ball on the 47th and he's hit hard behind the line [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and he's tackled with the 48 yard line [Applause] third down now they need to get it down to the 37th [Music] [Applause] there's very good chemistry between these two they like to run through all their routes before the game and i have to say they look sharp before this one even started here's the eighth play of the series under heavy pressure he gets sacked on the play 12. from the 36-yard line second down sometimes what happens on a false start is a lineman will see movement on the other side of the ball and be coaxed in the jumping earth delivers to the hat back on the screen and he's taken down around the 30-yard line what impresses me so much is the guy's vision coverage perfectly to find his man for good yardage here's play number 10 on the drive [Applause] on the delay a two-yard run by [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] the kick is up it's got the distance and he splits the uprights [Applause] and it looks like they're ready for the kickoff [Applause] he makes it out to maybe the 29-yard line it's been a tough outing for this quarterback kirby well i don't know how many more times his own defense is going to continue to be able to bail him out he needs to just go out there and execute the offense and forget about the mistakes that he's made [Applause] for boise state they really do have to be happy with their performance on the defensive side of the ball they've got a touchdown to go along with all those interceptions they threw a pick the last time out should be interesting to see what they do this time i look for the offense to come out with the same game plan as before you don't make changes after one play and [Applause] it's second down now and 14 to go ball on their own 26. [Applause] and he is drilled at the 34. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] right around the third [Applause] quick pass he's tapping at about the 11. [Applause] and he tackles him hard the 10-yard line [Music] second and nine coming up here ball on the 10. [Music] [Applause] nice run there [Music] [Applause] touchdown ucf and that makes it three scoring tosses for it but i'm noticing more and more about this guy is he's very patient with the ball and it's resulting in some nice scores just like we've seen today [Applause] he makes the b-a-t the kicker looks like he's ready to kick this one off he kicks it off and he got all of that one this one's going to be down in the end zone for a touchback broncos really had a tough first half and i got to give him credit for hanging in there and turning things around here in the third quarter you're right brad they could have just shut it down as bad as they looked in the first half of great perseverance by the entire offensive unit it's paid off back-to-back drives gets it out to his receiver in a hurry tackled at the 44-yard line [Applause] first down 10 yards to go ball on the 44 yard line they take them down [Applause] they get second immediately the world [Applause] to deflect the pass that's just really solid covered skill they're about four yards away here on third down [Applause] what a play and that'll set up a first and goal [Applause] [Music] [Applause] now it's first and goal with the defense trying to regroup after giving up the big pass well last time down here they threw an interception they'd like to erase that memory that's a great tackle [Applause] [Music] that's three down and one to go the knights are up big [Music] well folks we resume action here in the fourth quarter we'll hope for some action so far it's been a lopsided one [Applause] looks like he flinched down there on the line that penalty drives them back and they're shooting themselves in the foot here well they could just keep their concentration they'll avoid situations like that from the nine-yard line it's second down setting up the play action dangerous throw and this one's picked off he sheds it well i'm all for continuing to fight continuing to try to compete but another interception another miscue for this team they're already getting blown out they've got no chance to get back in the game central florida with a commanding lead off play action now he's on the move ties for extra yardage [Music] it's first and ten ball on the 32 yard line gets to about the 34-yard line the halfback gets a couple there on the counter [Music] [Applause] [Applause] from their own 42-yard line it's first down [Applause] around the 41-yard line [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] yard line first down he makes it to the 45-yard line [Applause] this is the eighth play of this drive [Applause] [Applause] and they make the stop right around [Applause] [Music] [Applause] floor up big right now in this one he's on the run makes it up to about the seventh tenth play of the drive [Music]
