the Texas Longhorns part of the locked on podcast Network your team everyday locked on Longhorns the show Jonathan Davis and Lacy Butler your host today's episode of Locked on Longhorns brought to you brother Jeff Jones from K view Sports director on today's episode once again talking about Texas jumping up to number three in the AP poll SEC power rankings in the second segment and then my top five Heisman contenders right now after just I guess two weeks week zero in week one in the third segment all of that and more on today's episode of lock on LongHorn's part of the lock on podcast Network your team every day so like I said Texas was dominant on Saturday 52 to zero beating up on Colorado State in DKR and they were rewarded for it moving up to number three in the AP poll so now we have Georgia stand at number one Ohio State standing at number two Texas number three Alabama number four Notre Dame moving up to number five after beating the Aggies old missst at number six Oregon who was at number three Falls all the way to number seven after only beating Idaho by 10 points then you got Penn State at number eight Missouri at number nine and it rounds out with Michigan at number 10 who Texas will be facing off against this Saturday so Jeff I want to ask you once again Jeff Jones sports director from KV what are your thoughts on Texas moving up one spot in the AP pole after their performance this past Saturday you know I like it it's expected after seeing what Oregon did and I think it's it's uh an accurate representation of where they are as compared to other powerhouses across the nation I think Texas and I've said this for a while I think Texas is in Prime position to not just make the playoff but to advance pretty far in this first 12 team playoff um and they just solidified that in week one with that stomping of Colorado State so yeah number three sounds about right for now get a big win on Saturday and you know maybe somebody else stumbles in the next coming weeks and number three could turn to number two or even something else before we know right so you know rightfully so was you know made sense for Texas to jump up just one spot right you know Georgia uh played Clemson so you know they're not going to go anywhere and then Ohio state was pretty dominant against akan just from terms of your eye test right now does Texas look like the third best team in the country or do they do they look a little bit higher to you see and I I don't want to speak out of turn here I did not watch enough the Ohio State game to really compare those two team side by side Georgia in the first half of their game against Clemson really didn't impress me like like they didn't look like some unbeatable force of nature uh some team that's been the best team in the nation for the majority of the past three or four seasons they didn't look like that in the first half of that game to me but in the second half they were like ah just kidding it's still us we're the Bulldogs we still bite so does Georgia deserve to be number one I think so even if in week one on that particular Saturday what Texas did may have impressed me more from beginning to end of that game so your question the it test does Texas look like the number three team team exactly I don't know if I have enough information to say that but they look like a top three team to me but what I will say is and just based on kind of what you said after watching both of these teams play this past weekend you probably feel a little bit more confident I know it's you know a little bit down the road but you feel a little bit more confident about that game on October 19th because that Georgia team you saw on Saturday you said certainly they look beatable right and especially with a team like Texas looked on Saturday Texas looks like a team that could beat them at home yeah definitely you know and the thing about that that's interesting is I don't I don't believe anyone here in Austin thought that Georgia was unbeatable before week one and they definitely didn't look unbeatable in week one so I think now going into that game of course the players and coaches are going to be like UT is gonna win but I think now the fans instead of being like I don't know I think the fans are gonna say remember week one yeah we can we can take them we got them we got them so if anything I think it it gave a little more juice to the fans who were on the fence yeah I for sure definitely had the same reaction watching that first half you know I was like okay you know Texas Georgia for sure that's going to be a dynamite matchup but you know certainly you can make ARG now it's now it's underlined and highlighted you get stars all around it exactly like you know looking at that game I was like oh yeah Texas could definitely beat Georgia right like like you said people in Austin already weren't scared and we have even less reason to be scared after what we watched this past Saturday you know simply put I think you know AP Associated Press they got it right right when you looked at what Oregon you know was able to do or lack their of and what Texas was able to do shutting out Colorado State 52 to Zer Texas was significantly more impressive than Oregon was this Saturday and they were rightly you know rightfully rewarded for it when you look at it I just got some you know stats written down on my phone Texas beat at FBS Colorado State team by 52 points while Oregon beat a FCS Idaho team by only 10 points right Oregon had the ball in their possession for 39 minutes on Saturday while Texas only had it for 30 minutes so let that sink in Oregan had the ball for 39 minutes and scored 24 points Texas had it for 30 minutes and scored 52 right I mean just completely different performances from those two teams Texas accounted for more yards on offense while allowing less yards than Oregon while once again being on the field less on offense and being on the field more on defense and then Texas went eight for 15 on the money Downs right third and fourth down Texas converted 53% on third and fourth down while Oregon went eight for 19 on third and fourth down which is only a 42% conversion so I was going to be upset you know borderline pissed off right you know if we got the AP pole results and Oregon was still ahead of Texas because you know you're supposed to be rewarded for your performance even after just week one you're supposed to be rewarded for your performance and Texas was obviously a better team this past Saturday than Oregon was so I thought you know the AP poll I thought they got it right right like I said you know Georgia still deserves to be number one Ohio State you know 52 to6 I believe against akan they deserve to be number two but Texas looked like a top three team in the country and confirmed everything we thought about them coming into the season then you got Alabama they move up a spot after beating Western Kentucky 63 to zero Notre Dame at the time beat a ranked A&M team on the road in a very tough environment I think that justifies their move from Seven up to number five Old Miss beat Ferman you know 76 to zero I don't even know where Ferman is right you know I mean they beat him down right I think the biggest margin of victory over the weekend so you know they stay at number six Oregon still very talented right just struggled against Idaho team that they shouldn't have struggled against so they moved down to number seven I think that's fair and then like I said you had uh Penn State at number eight they had a good win against West Virginia Missouri at number nine they were dominant and then Michigan that team that we'll face off against on Saturday at number 10 so Jeff just your final thoughts on uh Texas over the weekend and the AP poll and you know what you're excited for this weekend I guess man I think I think if you're a Michigan fan you know maybe some Michigan fans are doing some Recon listening to this podcast or something like that I think you got to be kind of mad that Oregon's ahead of you like in my opinion Oregon and Tech lost in week one like you're not supposed to struggle against the teams you struggle against just be Idaho by 10 go to overtime against ACU and and win1 to 52 Texas te abene Christian come on now just hang on like I mean to me those are losses and I I don't know I don't know I don't know how far I wanted Oregon to drop but I know if I am a a top 10 team if I'm the reigning National Champs if I lost a lot of NFL talent but still have a lot of NFL Talent on my roster and I see Oregon and what they did and they lost in my mind they lost and they're still ranked ahead of me I'm a little frustrated at that so Michigan fans if you're listening doing recon just know that I'm sympathetic with you right now I won't be sympathetic um after Saturday because I think we all know where my predictions going to go with that one but I am sympathetic with you right now but real quick the counterargument to that is Michigan didn't necessarily look great either right you know only beating fres 30 to 10 and you know with two minutes left in that game it was a 13-point game right they made it you know they dressed it up a little bit with the pck six at the end but Michigan certainly struggled with you know Fresno State so you know Oregon didn't look great Michigan didn't look great and that's why that spread has gone from you know three and a half this weekend to now Texas being favored by seven and a half and who knows what it'll be by Saturday maybe we'll be favored by double digits all I know is love having Jeff Jones sports director from KV on locked on Long Horns great stuff as always he'll be on a few more times next week so these are the week two SEC Power Rankings and if you're on YouTube I'm g go ahead and put those up on the screen if you're listening on audio just got to take my word for it right so as you can see now the SEC rankings for week two are on the screen and for the most part I agree with Gordy I'm just going to run through them so you look at number one Georgia they were number one last week they stay at the number one spot and I think that's perfectly fine based on what they did against you know a really good Clemson defense at least you know K kumnick in the offense uh left a lot to be desired and it looks like they're going to leave a lot to be desired throughout the season uh because dbos Sweeney just refuses to use the p and actually bring in some good offensive players but nonetheless that's still a really tough defense neutral sight game even though it's in Atlanta Georgia took care of business dominating the Clemson team 34 to3 a lot of people thought could make some noise in the ACC this year so Georgia stays at number one Texas was at the number two spot last week they stay at the number two spot beating up on Colorado State 52 to zero Texas also moved up one spot in the AP pole one of the most dominant teams over the weekend they did nothing to fall in the SEC Power Rankings they stay as the number two team in the SEC and in my opinion my biased opinion the biggest threat and Contender to Georgia this year in the conference number three Alabama staying in that number three spot beating up on Western Kentucky 63 to zero jayen milro was dominant with five touchdowns 200 passing yards on only nine attempts he went crazy over the weekend like I said Alabama was the number three spot in week one and they stay at number three after their dominant performance number four Old Miss right they beat up on Ferman not even sure where Ferman is you know what I mean or why they were playing Old Miss it didn't matter 76 to zero Jackson Dart over 400 yards and six touchdowns by halftime they absolutely smoked Ferman so miss number four team in the SEC Power Rankings last week they stay at number four in this week's rankings number five chalk so far right number five Missouri last week they stay at number five this week beat muray State 51 to zero so Missouri was absolutely dominant another top 10 team for the SEC see they're sitting at 9 right now and they have a chance to move up this week potentially depending on what happens in front of them this is where we got some movement from week one to week two in terms of the SEC Power Rankings right going into week one Chris Gordy have locked on SEC had LSU as the number six team in the conference he's also a LSU fan but don't tell him I told you that right so he had LSU as the number six team in the conference but going into week three I guess at this point or week two yeah going into week to at this point Tennessee is now the number six team in the conference after beating Chattanooga 69 to3 niiko yamala looked like one of the best quarterbacks in the country not even one of the best young quarterbacks just best quarterbacks period only played up until the half you know accounted for over 300 yards and four touchdowns I believe he was absolutely dominant look forward to that game this weekend against NC State obviously G to be a tougher matchup for Tennessee uh than Chattanooga but I think Tennessee wins that game as well certainly made a case to be the sixth best team in the SEC right now according to Chris Gordy of lock on SEC last week Tennessee was the number seven team that spot is now occupied by Oklahoma they moved up a spot from number eight last week in Chris Gordy's rankings they beat Temple 51 to3 look it's Temple I don't think Oklahoma was just overly impressive but they won they took care of business and they still won by 48 points right so Oklahoma moves up a spot in the SEC rankings even though I think they only completed like 8% of their third Downs they weren't asess impressive as I thought they could have been but nonetheless they took care of business and not every team in the SEC did so Oklahoma moved up a spot number eight team last week like I said was Oklahoma that spot is now occupied by Auburn they moved up from the number 10 spot to the number eight spot in Chris Gordy's rankings from locked on SEC beat Alabama A&M 73 to3 like I went to Texas Southern you know what I'm saying so shout out to my HBCU I always had just you know hate to see my HBCU get done like this but you know Auburn certainly went out there and took care of business Hugh freeze is looking like he's turning things around at Auburn for sure so you know a nice win 73 to3 even though it was against you know like I said the HBCU Auburn moves up two spots in this week's SEC Power Rankings number nine team going into this week was Texas A&M they have dropped all the way to number 11 I guess and now LSU who was six last week they've moved down to number nine look I know they lost to USC I know that they were winning in the fourth quarter but Lincoln Riley with a defensive coordinator we always new at Texas fans that would be a lethal combination I think USC is going to you know make some really uh make a lot of noise this year I should say I think you know USC is a really good team and even though LSU has had really bad luck in um you know the season openers and even though I think you know Brian Kelly is now three and six against ranked teams um you know in his time at LSU I don't think that that's a loss that they should necessarily hang their head over right a team had to win that game and I think USC is going to be really good this year so you know I think LSU moving down to number nine you know after losing 27 to 20 to USC is pretty fair I think LSU is still going to be one of the strongest teams in the conference they still can beat almost anybody on their schedule they just ran into a really good USC team that executed better than them down the stretch number 10 last week was Auburn now it is Kentucky Kentucky moved up from number 11 to number 10 nothing crazy nothing super impressive but they beat who was in front of them beat Southern Miss 31 to zero so Kentucky moves up a spot in the SEC power rankings number 11 that was Kentucky last week it is now Texas A&M they moved down two spots after losing to Notre Dame 23-13 I thought the defense played really really well in that game a super defensive match up between Notre Dame and Texas A&M but Conor Wegman in that offense just could not do absolutely anything against Notre Dame partly you know I mean because Notre Dame is not the number five team in the country they have an elite defense but also A&M just sucks on offense right and they're gonna suck on offense for the remainder of the season so they're at 11 right now I would not be surprised if Texas A&M continues to move down in the locked on SEC rankings according to Chris Gordy number 12 Florida was last week excuse me Florida was last week now it is Arkansas beat Arkansas Pine Bluff 70 to zero they looked good you know allbe it against the HBCU and Bobby petrino's return uh as offensive coordinator calling the offense so Arkansas went out there beat them 70 to zero they started running the clock in the second half took care of who was in front of them Arkansas now number 12 in the rankings after being the number 133 team last week last week Arkansas was 13 and now that spot is occupied by Vanderbilt who moved all the way from number 16 to number 13 right Vanderbilt was an underdog at home by two touchdowns to Virginia Tech and ended up beating them in overtime so a great win for Vanderbilt a great win for the SEC and Vanderbilt moves up three spots in the locked on SEC power rankings this week South Carolina was the number 14 team last week that spot is now occupied by Mississippi State we saw a lot of offense from Blake shapen a lot of offense from Jeff leby new head coach in Starksville that beat Eastern Kentucky 56-7 and Mississippi State moved up one spot in the SEC Power Rankings Mississippi state was the number 15 team last week and now that spot is occupied by Florida right Florida drops all the way from number 12 to number 15 after losing to Miami 41- 17 absolutely getting the doors blown off of them at home in the swamp where they had lost 33 straight games that team looks hopeless and Billy Napier is a dead man walking and last week Vanderbilt was the number 16 team the lowest team in the SEC Power Rankings and that spot is now occupied by South Carolina who was only able to beat Old Dominion at home 23-9 right 23-9 right so uh you know South Carolina Lenor sellers they have a lot to figure out Shane Beamer with that team they are the lowest team right now in the SEC power ranking so like I said Chris Gordy he's going to do these every week his locked on SEC Power Rankings right now Texas is number two Georgia number one rightfully so South Carolina number 16 the lowest team in the conference good to see Vanderbilt not having that moniker for once in probably the last three four years right and so we'll see after a big weekend in SEC football what the power rankings look like next week a quick word from our sponsors and then we get into my top five Heisman rankings which I'll be doing every week updating the top five Heisman contenders in the country right now in my opinion passion drive and patience the formula for winning championships is also what keeps your ride or die alive eBay Motors has been rankings going into into week two of college football I wonder if I should do it like five to one or one to five right like what's the best way to do it I guess I'll go five to one right so my number five is jayen milra right I thought he was special they beat up on Western Kentucky 63 to zero and of course he was a huge part of it 200 yards passing on only nine passing attempts right over 22 yards per attempt which is absolutely insane 200 yards on only nine passing attempts we knew last year he was a leite at throwing the Deep ball he continues to be El leite at throwing the Deep ball and uh pick up you know big yardage on just such few attempts and then 79 rushing yards as well right he's probably the best dual threat quarterback in college football right now 79 rushing yards five touchdowns accounted for and was dominant in the shut out of Western Kentucky so I have Jaylen milro as my number five high hasman candidate right now going into week two number four Jackson Dart 445 total yards and six touchdowns by halftime right five P passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown the only reason I have him down at number four after that dominant performance in just two quarters is it was against Ferman right and like I said I don't even know where Ferman is I don't even know why all Miss is scheduling a team like Ferman but nonetheless Jackson Dart went out there and you know played who was in front of him and he dominated and you know we talked so much about you know shadir Sanders and Quinn yers and Carson Beck and now cam Ward's gonna be in that conversation when are we gonna put Jackson Dart in that conversation he was great last year and you know with wide receivers like Trey Harris with a coach like Lane kein Jackson Dart is going to continue to put up Gotti numbers this season he certainly is going to be one of the best quarterbacks in the draft it's time he starts getting mentioned in that breath he is my number four Heisman candidate right now going into week two number three right I don't know how to say his first name I watched a couple YouTube videos I tried right so I'm just gonna call him tmac McMillan and I always want to put a non-quarterback in these rankings because it's such a Quarterback Award right we got to show love to our running backs our wide receivers and some of our other players right because they're out here balling too but tmac McMillan right the wide receiver from Arizona 10 catches for 304 yards and three touchdowns including a 78 y absolutely dominant and they needed it right I can't even remember who exactly they played but they gave up 39 points good thing they scored 61 on offense and a lot of that is because T-Mac McMillan 10 catches for 304 yards and three touchdowns this past weekend maybe trying to put up a Devonte Smith 2020 season huh could we see another wide receiver win the Heisman he certainly off to a great start number two Carson Beck didn't have goty numbers 297 total yards in two touchdowns but led his team to a 34 to3 victory over a very good Clemson defense Clemson was ranked right and so you give you know Carson Beck that credit on beating up a better team than you know Jackson Dart against Ferman and Jaylen milro against Western Kentucky so Carson Beck number one team in the country they proved why and he was really good in the second half got him as my number two Heisman candidate number one he's on everybody's radar after what he did in the swamp just a special game from cam Ward for Miami putting the U Back on the map and doing it in spectacular fashion he may have killed any hope Florida had of having a decent season they were G to have a great season but he killed any hope they had of having a decent season from the moment he stepped into the swamp just cool calm and collected 418 total yards and three touchdowns showing it off on the ground showing it off with some crazy throws and like I said he just went in there and basically ended Billy Napier's tenure at the University of Florida so right now those are my top five Heisman candidates going into week two cam Ward Carson Beck tmac Millan Jackson Dart and Jaylen Milo thank you for tuning in to another episode of lock on Longhorns part of the lock on podcast Network your team every day hook them peace
