Intro I feel for Nate and his family I mean of all the surgeries and then not to get the desired result that must be tough obviously your anatomical situation has had a profound effect on your life right yes it has when did you first know that there was something going on when I was 12 I noticed that I had a um breast Bud like a knot underneath my breast on my left side but it was only on my left side which was strange and then what happened left bre started growing and then the right one still just never never caught up any issues with high school at that time yeah in gym class I would go um hide in the showers to change because that was at the time where you could start being able to tell that you know the left side is coming in but the right side's still not doing anything high school was difficult hiding my rest was hard to do I had to quit the swim team or I felt I needed to because I couldn't hide at least with everyday clothing there was ways of me hiding but in a speedo you can't hide anything on a scale of 1 to 10 how much do you think it affects your life a nine if 10 I mean I don't feel comfortable to go out and hang out with friends all the time I don't feel comfortable to be in Social settings my first boyfriend I just told him about it and he went and told a lot of his friends and then went and told people so everybody knew I definitely think I would have done so much more if I would just been like every other girl my age but I don't I don't feel like I am I feel like you know I have that and it holds me back a lot what was the first Plastic Surgery thing you saw in the mirror that changed about your nose it was just like smushing it was collap I almost that must could could you imagine essentially with a severe case of Wagers all the cartilage in your nose falls apart because there's no blood supply to that area my aunt referred me out to a plastic surgeon he decided the best route to go would be to put a silicone implant into the bridge and the tip of my nose I woke up from surgery he said everything went great and I went home everything looked really good I was just swollen but honestly it didn't even hurt as bad as I thought it would 3 weeks I started to get a fever you're getting an infection yeah I I had an infection September of 2011 we went back in for my second surgery I thought we were going to just shave it down woke up from surgery took it out yeah I would have almost rather died than have him take out my implant I did not want to go back to what I the nose I had my mom was there he was devastated himself of course he was he came out and hugged me and said I'm so sorry when you see a patient who has had a problem with their plastic surgery that was done on A congenital problem or a problem related to an accident or a disease that's usually not the doctor's fault those are much more complicated situations due to the basic nature of the problem and the anatomy you're dealing with tell us what Anatomy situ he was born with what did you notice first thing that I noticed obviously was the facial abnormalities okay I was born with a handful of problems a club foot a hole in my heart my eyes were pretty far separated and basically looked like I had two noses how many surgeries he had on his face three three three so before the first one what did what actually did it look like beautiful I think it looked better to fix my deformities I had 21 surgeries total my surgeries have cost over $2 million what was the first thing they were focusing on one eye was higher than the other and his nostrils one was higher than the other and how much of an improvement did he get from that it didn't look like they had done anything what was the next surgery he had on the face rhinoplasty at 10 and then my other facial reconstruction at 15 what was what tell us about that facial reconstruction that one was just mainly to improve my nose once again once it was done healing I once again wasn't really pleased with it I feel for Nate and his family I mean of all the surgeries and then not to get the desired result that must be tough you Burn have a very interesting story you were in the military yes and you actually went to Iraq right I did once I got to high school I needed more structure in my life the only way I thought I was going to be held responsible was to join the military I did two tours you went to probably the most dangerous place in the world twice ice survived and came back here and you were struck by light yes the last thing I remember is it's like a week prior to my accident so you lost all your memory from a week before the accident yes all I remember is waking up in the hospital I was told that I had been in coma for 2 weeks and that I was struck by lightning in my right chest and it came out of my left foot what did they tell you about the event where it happened and what you were doing I was in a parking lot and I did go into cardiac arrest you did there they did have to do the whole shocking the whole thing yes yes and I was actually in Burning Up in Flames really so someone had to put me out so your clothes caught fire my clothes caught fire I had 28% body burns from 1st to third degree burns and I needed skin graphing what's going on with you now and what are your goals I had a underwire bra all right so the wire was actually burned into my skin so they had to remove it when they cut the skin off it obviously made one side bigger than the other when I look at my chest now I feel deform so it must Twins have been quite a shock when Addie was born your beautiful baby and then suddenly scooped her away right she was pretty right she's still pretty oh yeah gorgeous but they scooped her away way and what happened they told me it was like a siames twin right but I never got to see it they always kept it wrapped they wouldn't let me see it huh well they want to let you see what whatever was attached to my daughter so they operated on her yes at Children's Hospital they probably knew that the twin wasn't viable and in your condition having just delivered didn't want to upset you and so just wanted to kind of probably cover it and take take care of it do you have any connection or thoughts about having had a twin well as as a child I used to sit in the room and have a conversation with myself as a kid knowing that I had a twin but I never got to meet her I felt a little incomplete but As I Grew Older I was able to come to terms with it so she had the surgery and then you got her back and you knew she had now a deformity sort of right what was it like as she was growing up with this situation back there for you guys like she didn't really complain until she got a teenager and teenagers are bullies yes did you get bullied when I dressed out for PE the girls knew it they noticed it and what happened when they they started teasing me and calling me you know hurtful names the reason why I'm so shy is because the bullying caused me to isolate myself from everyone I didn't want to get hurt no more Steen and Ronnie have a lot of faith in us and we Serena needed to do now is give her a really good thorough exam to figure out really what this is and if we can help her all righty so we want to do Dr Deo and I basically put some gloves on and feel around okay can you open your mouth friend us do you bite like when you showing you bite on that tissue don't you look's just scar her upper Ginger W oh well it goes all the way up to her infraorbital Rim this definitely is not a Hu no not even close upon examining starina we can safely say that this is a misdiagnosis commanda doesn't get bigger gets smaller as you get older this has gotten bigger as you gotten older exactly this is a vascular malformation blood just sits in there and pools a Venus malformation is composed of active blood vessels now usually it's not dangerous however in sarina's case is aesthetically deforming so we want to do this in two stages the first stage is called embolization where we actually injects foam and this foam is basically going to shrink up these blood vessels then get you back to Los Angeles quickly and then do our second stage which is surgery and what that surgery is basically making this smaller this is something it's very difficult there's a risk injuring one of those nerves bleeding moist scar formation I mean not that anything we do is simple but sten's case is exceptionally difficult and risky we're really not going to know what's going on until we get in there and at that time we'll be able to see how much can we help Serena what do you think do you want to go through with us yes I do seems like my whole life I've waited for this opportunity and I'm just excited for the future we we're glad we came all the way out to Atlanta thank you guys pleas it's a pleasure pleasure pleasure meeting you guys just happy happy as tears of joy little old us be everyday people so for them to come all the way to at that they are able to do this that is a possibility of a brighter future like there is an answer is just wonderful
