What Is Hero RB And How Successful Is It Actually? what if we told you there was a very easy system you can use to draft the best possible fantasy football team we're going to walk you through it step by step and tell you exactly why it works it's called hero RB so let's get right to it Chris first of all how do we know this actually works yeah that's a great question and we don't have the stats necessarily for redraft leagues but it's safe to assume that this will have similar success in redraft leagues but you can see right here Underdog playoff Advance rates these are teams that drafted hero RB this is the amount of running backs they ended up with so teams that use this hero RB strategy and had at least five or six running backs by the end of their draft had way above average Advance rates and then Scott Barrett on X has done a lot of research on this and he has actually shown that in each of the past six seasons having the rb1 as your first running back and then the rb24 as your rb2 is actually better than having the rb6 and the rb7 as your two running backs so it's actually a benefit to have one Elite running back even if your second running back isn't that good yeah look to me this just makes intuitive sense we know the bus rate for running backs is super high in the early rounds you can name a ton of players that didn't pay off why not just hit your anchor to one stud running back and then wait we always say rb2 is your weakest spot on your team then you're doing something right so let's start The Simple System To Crush Your Draft With Hero RB Explained with I think the most important step here step one you get your hero RB you need to draft one Elite running back early but then of course that begs the question what makes a running back Elite when I when I think about this I want a guy that I know is going to be a Workhorse running back you know top five maybe top eight running back at worst I'm looking like definitely any running back going in the first round maybe running backs going in the second round but really for me it's probably more like middle of the second round like you don't want to be taking a running back you know in round four or round five as your hero RB you want an early Elite known stud running back agree and of course we don't know exactly who's going to finish as the top running back or the top five by Year's end but we have a pretty good idea who we think it is going to be okay so let's hear which running backs specifically this year are you willing to call your hero RB obviously Christian mcaffrey Bree all beon no doubt about it jir Gibbs I'm not scared I think jir Gibbs is going to be great he's one for me Jonathan Taylor as well Kyon Williams saquan Barkley and then Derk Henry is probably the last one that I would actually consider for a hero RB build you see other running backs sometimes like Travis aten or Isaiah Pacho going in the second round not sure I would necessarily hero RB build with them so Derrick Henry probably my cut off agree all those running backs could serve as your hero depending how they finish the season look I'll say a lot of people are using Devon H and he's been drafted earlier than some of those running backs it could pay off it's super risky though I don't consider him one of those types but maybe you want to try it okay so you got your anchor your number one Elite running back what's step two well now you got to focus on wide receivers this is the real benefit of hero RB rather than spending you know two picks in the early rounds on running backs you're getting one stud Elite running back and you're still getting Elite receiver so this is the part where you start focusing on the wide receiver position okay so if we're only going one running back early at that the question a lot of people have is how many wide receivers do I focus on how long do I wait to go running back or even another position so I would assume at least three or four do you even go farther than that it depends it it really depends on your league and your rosters if you're in a typical two wide receiver two running back one Flex I would probably want three wide receivers before I grabbed another running back or thought about other positions but if you're in like a league that starts three wide receivers one to two flexes you could certainly take more I mean the the whole point here is to have that one Elite running back while still having Elite wide receivers so you don't want to give up on wide receivers too soon here you know start freaking out about your rb2 make sure your wide receiver room is Elite before you move on agree of course League size you know format all that matters I think four receivers is the minimum and don't worry we will talk about quarterback tight end in a second but let me also ask you this does this matter if it's full PPR versus half PPR can you even do this strategy in a standard non PPR League well I'll answer that last question first no don't do this strategy in a standard non PPR League I think in a standard non PPR League you probably want to go robust running back which means two three maybe even more running backs early in your draft but in any kind of PPR format half PPR or full PPR I think it's a fantastic draft strategy probably the simplest most effective draft strategy anybody can use all right so you have your Elite running back you're loading up on wide receivers what about quarterback in tight end do you wait on that can you grab let's say a Sam leaport Travis Kelce whatever tight end you like early or does that mess things up no you definitely can and this again really comes down to your league kn your league mates uh my wife just did her draft and quarterbacks and tight ends flew off the board so maybe in a league like that you do want to consider QB or tight end a bit earlier maybe you're in leagues like the endgame leagues where quarterbacks and tight ends aren't valued as highly you can wait a little bit but certainly you can go ahead and take an elite QB still or an elite tight end still and it won't mess up the draft Yeah I think you can but I will say this you know I don't love being the first or one of the first to draft a quarterback there's so much good value later on at both positions and really feels like tight end is a little deeper this year so I am totally comfortable waiting but if you want to grab one of those studs early you can still do this cuz remember what we're waiting for is rb2 um and I assume you're okay if you just want to completely punt quarterback and tight end and wait could you grab your rb2 before your tight end one and your qb1 absolutely if if everybody's grabbing QBs and tight ends early I'm not going to feel the need to reach on a so so QB or a so so tight end I'll just take the running back value if it's there or the wide receiver value if it's there step four is we're going to fill out that running back room when do you feel comfortable doing it I guess let's assume it's a 12 team League yeah there's no one siiz fits-all answer here unfortunately it's going to depend again of course on your league how the draft is going but the number one thing I am looking for before I start thinking about my arb2 is how good is my wide receiver room cuz again when you look at a strategy like Z RB the advantage in that strategy is that you should have the best wide receiver group in your entire league the advantage for the hero RB is you still should have one of the best wide receiver groups in the league while also having a stud running back so don't give up on wide receiver too soon and just come away with an okay wide receiver room to go get your rb2 remember that stat the rb1 plus the rb24 is better than the rb6 and the rb7 so don't be afraid to wait even a little bit longer if you can continue to draft stud wide receivers what running backs do you think are a ideal rb2 I I'll start saying when you start getting to the guys like randri Stevenson zamir white javante Williams tyj Spears Brian Robinson Jr guys in that kind of range and look they they go different in different leagues but you know guys you're talking about probably rounds 7 8 9 10 you know of course it's going to depend how many wide receivers you have to start but that's usually when I'm going to start looking for them and you really want to look for guys who actually are starting running backs right now which thankfully this year more so than I can ever remember there are a ton of starting running backs you can get late I think in a perfect world again you got your hero RB you've got at least four maybe five really good receivers maybe even a quarterback tight end optional here if you can get a running back that's considered a Workhorse or at least the clear starter on their team like the guys you mentioned that would be great if I'm taking somebody that's like a committee back or in a split an even split kind of like the Tennessee backfield right po Spears Cincinnati backfield between brown and Moss you're getting a little risky there so I really want to try to get one of those running backs you mentioned like a Brian Robinson or aandre that would be perfect or wait on a guy that you keep telling us is way undervalued and Jerome Ford really could be the ideal rb2 for a draft like this and we have to address address this do you handcuff your hero RB or not I think handcuffing your hero RB is fine if your hero RB has a clear number two running back so let's say like bejan Robinson Tyler alir if I have bejon Robinson I'm fine grabbing Tyler aler but if you have somebody like Jonathan Taylor where we don't know who the number two running back will be for sure then it's probably not really worth it that's a great point I mean it just goes to the fact that you can't blindly go in saying I'm going to do this I'm going to take this type of player this position it really depends how the draft breaks down and it's more about the player than the position itself and then I guess when you get to the end of the draft are you feeling like with hero RB you should load up on more flyers at running back or do you just go back to wide receiver again I definitely think you should favor running back because your wide receiver room again you should feel very good about it but that doesn't mean you can completely ignore a wide receiver if there's some good wide receiver value in the later rounds don't be afraid to draft one or two more wide receivers look injuries happen busts happen you can never have too much depth that's definitely true I'll say this I don't ever feel compelled to just load up on running back quantity because you know realistically half those guys you might drop during the season and the guys who really turn out to be League winners at running back they're not the ones you draft in round 15 or 16 they're the ones you pick up off the waiver wire anyways I Don't Need To Know Everything, Just Give Me The Step By Step! so all of that said it's a really simple system you can use on draft day step one grab your Elite running back early step two don't forget to focus on wide receivers from then on out really build that wide receiver core and don't be afraid to draft several in a row step three well don't completely forget about quarterback or tight end early you don't have to get those positions early but if you want to that is totally fine and then step four when it's time to get your rb2 get somebody who you know is getting touches maybe a clear starter who's being drafted later or a very high-end handcuff for your hero Arby we're always here to give you the best draft strategy we want to build that winning team as early as possible and that includes
