prayer Eternal God our Alpha and Omega our beginning and our end we have gathered in this time and at this place to worship you in your time you created all things and wo into their fabric a yearning for fulfillment in you it is this yearning within us which has pulled us here this morning take these moments oh lord of time and space and complete them in us through your Holy Spirit May our labor bring forth a new creation in you this is your hour Christ Jesus help us to make the most of each Precious Moment for in your name we have gathered and we pray amen if you remain standing for our give us humble teachable and obedient hearts that we may receive what you have revealed and do what you have commanded since we do not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from your mouth make us hunger for this heavenly food that it may nourish us today in the ways of eternal life through Jesus Christ The Bread of Heaven amen now we will responsively read Psalm 125 um and we will follow along on the slides okay those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion which cannot be moved but abides forever as the mountains surround Jerusalem so the Lord surrounds his people from this time on and forever more the of wickedness shall not rest on the on the land alloted to the righteous so that the rightous might not stretch out their hands to do wrong do good O Lord to those who are good and to those who are upright in their hearts but those who turn aside to their own crooked ways the Lord will lead away with evildoers peace be upon Israel this morning's epistle lesson of course is in the New Testament in the Book of James starting at chapter 2 um starting on page 983 we do verses 1 through 10 and then we'll skip down to 14 through 17 my brothers and sisters do you with your acts of favoritism really believe in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ for if a person with gold rings and in fine clothes comes into your assembly and if a poor person in dirty clothes also comes in and if if you take notice of the one wearing the fine clothes and say have a seat here please while to the one who is poor you say stand there or sit at my feet have you not made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts listen my beloved brothers and sisters has not God chosen the poor in the world to be rich in faith and to be Hees of the kingom om that he has promised to those who love him but you have Dishonored the poor is it not the rich who oppress you is it not they who drag you into court is it not they who blasphemed the excellent Name that was invoked over you you do well if you really fulfill the Royal law according to the scripture you shall love your neighbor as your yourself but if you show partiality you commit sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors for whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it verse 14 what good is it my brothers and sisters if you say you have faith but do not have Works can Faith save you if a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food and one of you says to them go in peace keep warm eat your fill and yet you do not supply their bodily needs what is the going to talk to you about being humble so let me tell you a story there was a lady right she wanted Jesus attention and you know what she did she went to Jesus in a very humble Manner and because she was humble to Jesus when she was in the presence of Jesus Jesus Paid her attention initially Jesus did not want to listen to her but because she was so humble Jesus gave her what she asked for so you have to learn how to be humble and to be humble is like pay attention listen to people respect people behave well that's what it means to be humble so when you are in class you don't have to play with other kids there is time to play and there is time to pay attention right when the teacher is talking you have to pay attention that also means being humble because if the teacher is talking and you are playing that is this respectful to the teacher the teacher is going to feel so bad but if you see and pay attention the teacher is going to say you are a good girl or a good boy so you remember that when you go to class sit straight and listen to the teacher right isn't it so Zoe right you pay attention right yes she said she pays attention when she is in class okay so we yes she's not well she will be in school one day all right she's going to be in school one day but she's already paying attention even before being in class can you imagine so she's going to do well when she is sitting in front of a teacher so now because school has already started we are going to pray for you so that you behave well in school so that you pay attention so that you pass your exams so I will ask the congregation stand your hand towards the young disciples okay let us pray gracious and loving God we give you thanks we bless these kids as they grow to become the leaders of us and the leaders of the church we ask that your presence go with them all their lives dear Lord help them to listen to understand to believe and be the good you wish them to be be with their teacher be with their parents be with with their classmates be with their siblings with their relatives be with each and everyone who they come in touch with all this we ask all this we believe and all this we receive in the mighty on time good okay we have the Gospel reading coming up and it is coming from Mark chap 7:24 to 37 and in a pure Bible can be found on page 814 if you are able I will ask you to stand with me as I read the gospel lesson for today here now is the reading from there he sat out and went away to the region of Ty he entered the house and did not want anyone to know he was there yet he could not Escape notice but a woman who whose little daughter had an unclean Spirit immediately heard about him and she came and bowed down at his feet now the woman was a gentile cenan origin she begged him to cast The Demon out of her daughter he said to her let the children be fed first for it is not fair to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs but she him sir even the dogs under the table eat the children ground then he said to her for saying that you may go the demon has left your lord so she went home found the child lying on the bed and the demon then he returned from the region of Tyra and went by way of sedom towards the Sea of Galilee in the region of the deap deis they brought to him a death man who had an impediment in his speech and They begged him to let lay his hand on him he took him aside in private away from the crowd and put his fingers into his ears and he spat on and touched his tongue then looking up to heaven he s and said to him Faus that is be opened and immediately his ears were opened his tongue was released and he spoke plainly then Jesus ordered them to tell no one but the more he ordered them the more zealously they proclaimed it they were astounded beyond measure saying he has done everything well he even makes the death to hear and the mute to speak the word of God for the people of God let us pray gracious and loving God we give you thanks this day for allowing us to be in your presence we lift up your on high from where all our blessings come from so we say thank you for this wonderful and now we ask de Lord speak to us may you speak through this lips so that the words that come out of it shall shall transform shall mold shall reignite someone's relationship with you dear God we ask that the same blessing be with those who are not here may you speak to them too may you bless them too may you guide and be with them too all this we ask all this we believe and all this will receive and the people of God agrees by saying amen you may now take your seat so for the next few minutes that I am left with I want to share with you from the following I am not taking no for an answer amen if I am not taking for an answer means I will only take a yes right well so repeat after me speak it to yourself I am not say after me I am not taking not for an answer such a declaration can only come from someone who believes that they worship a loving God such a declaration can only come from someone Hearts who believe that the god they worship is a caring God is a powerful God is God the who delivers is God who is able to do and undo anything after all the Bible says if God is with us who can be against me once you have that feeling that I worship a powerful God who is able to do and undo anything then I am left with no option but to say I am not taking no for an answer no matter what the situation looks like I will Keep On Believing I will keep on praying I will keep on asking until that no becomes a yes I am now taking a no for an answer but I will Keep On Believing that God is with me that God knows what I am going through therefore I will not give in or give up until my prayer requests are answered well the text that we read few minutes ago from Matthew chapter 7 verse 24- 37 describes an encounter between a woman whose daughter was possessed by impure Spirit on one side and on the other side we have Jesus such an encounter produced significant results so here is what happened according to the scriptures there was this woman she was not a Jew she was a gentile she was a Greek and she had her daughter sick possessed by demons she had done all she could do under her power but her daughter was not getting better probably she had spent all her money she probably had gone to every doctor she knew probably she had run out of health insurance so she there she was with no more option she did not know what to do next but out of nowhere Jesus was in town but the issue was Jesus was on private visitation she he was in town but he did not want to get in touch with anyone she he got to town and he went straight to his destination the door was locked and there he was with his disciples and out of nowhere someone told the woman look Jesus is around don't say I'm the one who told you but he is around he is somewhere there the Bible does not name the person who told this woman about Jesus being in to let's say it was the Holy Spirit that told her that Jesus was around and I believe that was that's that what happen when we look for Jesus sometimes it may feel like God is too far away from us but if we have the desire the need you will come to realize that God is way closer to us than we can imagine just as what happened with this woman she was looking for ways she was looking for blessings for Mir miracles for signs and wonders for her daughters and out of nowhere there was Jesus and someone came to tell her that Jesus is around I believe there were many people in that town but because they were not looking for Jesus I believe they never got to notice the presence of Jesus in town but this woman who was looking for help someone told her that Jesus was around immediately she went where Jesus was when she was in the presence of Jesus the Bible said she knelt down and asked Jesus to heal her daughter and Jesus response was not the best Jesus did not give her a good response what Jesus said to her was humiliating if you understand what the scripture said Jesus said to her it is not fair to give the food of children to dogs and this woman clearly understood what Jesus was trying to say what Jesus meant by that Parable is this I have come to save the Jews first and you who is not a Jew you you who is a gentile you can wait later on salvation come to you the woman was not discouraged she kept on asking and in response to what Jesus said the woman said sir I know that even dogs they eat the crumbs that fall from the master's table what she said there is this Lord I know who you came for when you have saved them is there a leftover that you can use for me to be saved that answer answer touched Jesus so much so much so Jesus had no other excuse against this woman request the next thing Jesus did was to tell her go your daughter is well the woman left went home and she found out that the demons that tormented her daughter had left her so now the question is what can we learn from this encounter between this woman whose daughter was possessed by demons and Jesus there are three principles that we can learn from this woman when she met Jesus the first principle is this have a desire driven by faith have a desire driven by faith This Woman's desire was to see her daughter well she did not just wish her daughter to be well but such a desire such will was driven by her faith have a desire on one side and on the other side have faith because it is your faith that controls your desires your will each day there are many thoughts ideas suggestions opinions desires that go through the mind and it is your faith that judges your desires you can have all wild desires but if you do not have faith you will think that every desires are to be fulfilled but if you have faith in Jesus Christ your faith will pame your mind for you to go only after good desires it is your faith which will question you and will ask you are your desires compatible with the kingdom of God are your desires accepted before God and it is there that you will realize that there are bad and God desire but as for these woman's desire to see her daughter being healed it was acceptable so she had a desire and out of nowhere she was told that Jesus is around what happened next she took her desires to Jesus so the next principle is this be courageous and humble it took this lady to be courageous to go and disturb Jesus Jesus was on private visit Jesus was not there to do ministry so for these woman to go and disturb Jesus peace she had to be Fearless she had to be courageous but then when she was at Jesus presence what did she do she was humble she humbled herself through kneeling and she submitted her request so as a Christian be courageous on one side and on the other the other side be humble it takes you to be courageous for you to go out there and talk to stranger to share the word of God it takes courage to invite your neighbor your friend your relatives to come to church but on the other side it requires you to be humble to listen to other people even when what they are saying does not make sense it takes you to be humble to listen to them so this woman went to disturb Jesus peace even when she knew that Jesus was there on personal and private visitation Jesus did not need anyone to disturb him woman this woman was breaking some protocols so you too sometimes you have to break some protocols if that is what is needed for you to do the right thing sometimes you have to break some protocols if that is what is required for you to defend just J this this woman did not care whether Jesus was there on personal visitation or not it is like you are going to knock on someone's door and that is and not is saying do not disturb but you have a pressing need what do you do some of those protocols might be or should be broken if you are trying to do the right thing we all know that you are not supposed to call someone at midnight but imagine that that call will make a difference in someone's life that call has to be made in order for someone to be saved what will you do will you say I will not make the call because it is way too late that is one of the protocols that has to be broken if it is truly necessary so this woman goes to knock the door to find Jesus and when she gets there she humbles herself [Music] and submit her prayer request so we need to be Fearless we need to be courageous and we need to be humble humble enough to hear people's complain humble enough to entertain even things which we do not want to hear it takes you to be humble for you to pay attention it takes courage to leave your house on Sunday morning when you could be laying on your couch watching TV and come to church but it takes humbleness humility to sit down and just be quiet and I believe that is what this woman is teaching us here today be courageous on one side and on the other side be humble it takes courage for you to say no to anything wrong and on the other side it takes you to be humble to love those people who you have Sav no it takes courage for you to deny peer pressure and yet it takes you to be humble for you still to be in good relationship those who you have said no the third principle that we can learn from from this woman is persistence be persistent on the other side and on the other side be wise this woman was persistent persistent with her request bothering Jesus asking for what she wanted she was persistent I am not taking no for an answer Jesus I will keep on Bing I have come here to ask for healing for my daughter even when Jesus compared her to a dog I am not living I will keep on praying I will keep on asking I will keep on begging that is persistence but she was not just persistent she was also wise where do we see her wisdom if you read the scripture she said to Jesus son even dogs eat the crumbs that falls from the table I believe Jesus said to himself you are wise I have nothing more against you therefore you can leave your daughter is healed because what you said is a sign of wisdom for you to stay here begging me asking me begging me kneeling before me you are persistent enough so much so I I cannot deny your request even though I have come here to rest on private retreat let me just give you what you are asking for because you have persisted and out of that you are also wise so brothers and sisters when we walk out of this door let let's go out believing that we have desires and our desires are or should be driven by faith not only that let's believe that we are fearless we are courageous to face any situation not only that we are also humble humble enough to listen to understand to get along with people when we leave this place let's go out that we are persistent to overcome any situation that comes against us but we overcome any situation through wisdom the Bible says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom so we find wisdom by understanding what the Lord is saying so my brothers and sisters don't give up or give in believe that you are not taking no for an answer the word of God for for the people of God I will now ask you to stand if you are able as we submit our givings blessed God loving God we now [Music] submit the gifts that we have brought in this storehouse in this branch of Zion so dear Lord accept bless these gifts for the work of your church thank you Lord for we give because you are the greatest Giver all that we have is a gift from you so help us to recognize to a knowledge that you are the greatest giver and out of the many gifts you have bestowed in our lives we give this to the work of your church all this we ask all this we believe and all this we receive and the people of God agrees Mike Hunter he is the individual who used to bring um Sunny Scarrow to church here him and his wife Pat used to bring H um Mike's wife Pat has passed away so we need to keep Mike in our prayers that is all that's written in the book are there any other Joys or concerns that you want to share this morning Miss Judy two cats and a husband in one year in that two boys left in the military one of the cats died and Wayne was diagnosed with cancer the next year Wayne died but I still had one cat and the two boys are happily in the military doing great well so it's just been me and the cat well last Wednesday he was fine in the morning and by evening she didn't eat right didn't know what was wrong with my cat took her to the vet the next day and he didn't think she'd live through the night but she did I had to grave dug for everything ready and I know that's silly it's just a cat but it's all that I have left of my one-time life and so I brought her home and she's home and it's really difficult trying to get all the pills she has and to have insulin and I have to force feed her because she can't eat by herself so and I'm leaving there is some good stuff in my story I'm leaving on Tuesday to go first trip that I've done since my husband died his dream was to see his brother one more time so I am going to Montana with my sister to see my brother-in-law one last time so we're going to there staying a few days coming back one of the Grandsons in the Navy wants is getting an award and wanted me to go with him for the award because I couldn't come when they joined the military because Wayne was too sick with the cancer so I'll be gone two weeks between the two trips in the meanwhile my cat's dying my niece said that she'd take care of her I don't have the heart to put her to sleep but I told her if she feels like she needs to she works with animals all the time to just do it while I'm gone so probably I will come home to no cat and I will have made it through the trip so I just need prayers for my cat that she could pass quickly she's a good cat and she helped me through losing Wayne so I really hate losing her but I don't want her to suffer and I want um prayers to make it to my trip and back it's a little iffy one trip is over and I'll be at the train station and a couple years couple hours later I leave on the other so if one's late then I'll miss the second one so prayers that it all goes well the way it's supposed to for the trip so I can get both of them in and get done and get back with my new life whether I want to or not my new life will be with none of that I had two years ago so and you don't have to repeat all that but I just wanted to I just need prayers you know for for Rudy and for a safe trip so keep Miss Judy in your prayers f is are part of our family most of us understand that so keep Miss Judy in your prayers um and pray for safe travels any others come on guys don't end with that Gloria so Gloria is announcing um her son was given an honor I'm not sure I completely unfollowing you so he interviewed Sully um so that was quite an honor for him so there is a joy any others to share this this morning Lori so that is that is a joy so Lori says that her friend that we um prayed for that was diagnosed with lung cancer had her surgery they removed the lower portion of her lobe and they're saying they got all of the cancer and she doesn't even need treatments so God is good all the time Miss Harriet so Mr Carol had cataract surgery which went well but pray for the second one that's coming up anything else continue to keep um Chrissy's dad in your prayer he's still in the hospital and it sounds like he's going to be headed to rehab to build up some strength so keep him in your prayers as well as Chrissy and her mom there's no others let's bow our heads please dear Lord we are so grateful to be here this morning in this place of worship to be able to hear your word and the message that you placed upon Pastor bernardo's Heart Lord we thank you most of all for the unconditional love which you so freely give to us we've raised up some concerns this morning we ask you to wrap your arms around Mike as he Grieves the loss of Pat we ask you to be with Miss Judy as she deals with her cat and faces an upcoming trip we just pray for traveling mercies we give you the joy we thank you for the joy of successful surgeries Lord there's a lot going on in this world we just pray that you be in the midst of it all we know that you don't create bad things but that you can use those bad situations for good Lord we raise up in concern the school shootings that happened this week in Georgia and here in Marland close to our home we pray for those families that have lost loved ones we pray for those those kids that did wrong Lord and Lord we just pray for peace as we go out this week Lord just be with us guide us protect us as well as melt us mold us fill us and use us Lord help us to be not just religious f folks on Sunday but to build that relationship with you each and every day of the week and use that Lord to let your light shine through us to all those we come in contact with so help us to be that voice of Hope to live by faith and most of all be known for love all this we ask in your name amen please join me in the Lord's prayer Our Father who art in heaven Hallowed be thy name thy
