residents of this Coastal Community knew about the long-term impact of coastal erosion and landslides before buying their properties but the problem has worsened to the point where the mov of the land and the destruction can be seen from one day to the next well it's nerve-wracking because uh you you deal with it on a daily basis and you come in here and check every day or every hour sometimes uh so it's it's not it's nothing that you want to deal with every day the struggle for the residents of Rancho Palos veres just got worse as Utility Company Southern California Edison shut off power to more than a 100 homes on Sunday and more expected Monday days after a down power line sparked a fire in the neighborhood last week heavy rain over the last 2 years has shifted land and led to damage to electrical equipment we have these atmospheric Rivers coming off the oceans drops the rain here on these Hills and then the hills start eroding as well so you know we were just down there looking at some runoff coming off of these Hills here and you can see the sediment in the dirt that's being washed off the hills and so not only do we have this erosion right here from the waves but we also have erosion up Inland caused by the rainfall while authorities encourage residents to leave Evac uations are currently not mandatory meanwhile another Heat Wave is expected to bring record high temperatures to nearly 26 million people in the US Southwest dubbed as the hottest place on Earth California's death valley has already broken new records this year with each coming summer we're having lengthier heat waves uh heat waves with temperatures that are challenging record so it just feels like every year it's getting hotter and hotter the mayor of Los Angeles announced Monday City resources would be deployed to provide cooling centers and Emergency Operations Personnel at public libraries parks and other community centers whether through torrential rain or heat waves extreme weather events fueled by climate change continue to take a big toll on local communities it is Tian Shan cgtn Los Angeles
