Driver in double-fatal San Diego Police crash identified as 16-year-old male

We begin with new information on that violent crash that killed a San Diego police officer and critically injured. Another according to the San Diego County medical examiner, the driver they were pursuing was only 16 years old. Identified tonight as Edgar Giovanni Oviedo, investigators say Oviedo lived in San Diego and was driving the BMW that officers tried to pull over for speeding late Monday night. But they say Oviedo did not stop, which led to a short chase which a supervisor soon called off because of excessive speeds. The BMW then slammed into a police cruiser that was responding to the call. The driver officer Austin Maar was killed in the fiery crash tonight. His partner, Officer Zach Martinez remains in the IC U at Sharp Memorial Hospital in critical but stable condition.
