hi Alexander nice to meet you I'm Ellie from screen daily congratulations on the film I'd love to know how did you and Kate W that build up that bond together what was your rehearsal process like we um didn't have that much time to rehearse in person um because I was shooting in the states right up until we started this so uh but Kate had done eight years of research not only on Lee Miller but on all the characters in her life and knew them incredibly into every detail of of all the characters um so we had long conversation on the phone about Roland and Lee and their relationship and how it kind of how we wanted to map it out over the course of the film to show the them going from potentially a bit naive in the beginning just before the war um not knowing um where it was going to go and them living in that lovely bubble of just being madly in love um to what she went through during the war and how Roland try to get her out of it he was terrified when she went went into the theater of of War um and and what that what that did to her basically and how that affected them and her the rest of of their lives um so to kind of map that out with Kate again we didn't have that much time to rehearse but we we spoke a lot about it and then when we got together we had the privilege of starting with the stuff in south of France so we started with the not super heavy stuff and that was a great way into it and getting to know the characters got to know each other but we also got to know each other as actors before we got into the more um uh the darker elements of it and this film to me felt unexpectly quite timely I'm sure you could have imagined that at the time of filming but what's one message you would like audiences to take away from it today I didn't know much about Lee Miller before before this I I was familiar with her name I knew that she was a wartime photographer during the second world war I'd seen her images from doca and and obviously the iconic one in the in Hitler's bathtub but other than that I didn't know much about her her her journey or what what a uh Trailblazer she was um and I very privileged to in a very small way be part of telling the story and bringing it to to to to larger audience and and to people who might not know much about her um and to see Kate do this incredible incredible um performance thank you very much thank you enjoy your night
