is [Music] [Music] welcome folks to downtown Atlanta and mercedesbenz Stadium sight of this year's Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and of course part of the college football playoff colliding here today two top 25 teams having tremendous Seasons set to battle it out against one another as we'll see the number 17 team in the country the Clemson Tigers taking on the number one team in the land the Georgia Bulldogs 3A sports college football I'm Chris F here in the booth with KK herb Street I think we've talked long enough KK let's get this game going [Music] and the Tigers will kick this deep to start us off he's going to return it from near the goal line and he stopped at the 20 treding to make something happen but that's good coverage there so the Georgia bulldo offense DRS out there to open this game and as this quarterback takes the field eager to see how he plays today there's a certain gravity about you can tell from the warm-up song the way the team responds and rallies around him can he come stage here yeah [Music] this man when that opening kickoff is kicked up into the air his cape goes on he sets everything into place gets the offense out of jams does it in pressure situations he's the arms and legs of this offensive system but also the heart of this team easy takes the hand off again he stop out at the 42 that's a solid gain getting close to the Midfield Chris a really good job here by this back to be able to find that hole and pick up the yards for this first down and Boy George's had some good backs over the years and this young man is living up to that tradition today on the D guys up front lined up it's first down we here comes a handoff getting close to Midfield now they bring him down to the 47 I think this defense keeps thinking about them throwing the football and by doing that they're opening up running Lanes good positive yards there by the running back ready a game makes it second and medium set pre- snap motion from the receiver they'll switch it up looking to throw finds a man open on the right side downfield touchdown dos strong game by this quarterback what a well-designed play Here by this offense to get the ball to the gifted tight end of course he's got the size but here he shows you the speed that he has as an out running the secondary into the end zone for a big [Music] touchdown so they'll try to add to the lead now with the p and it's 7 nothing after the [Applause] bat kickoff team on the field getting set now [Applause] so no return here he takes a knee in the end zone and they'll begin the drive at the 25 the Tigers offense gets their first crack now well it's not easy to narrow down the impact players are just a few guys K but what do you expect from them today well we got guys that can make plays as well as anybody in the country on both sides of the ball that's why I think this matchup is so exciting two good teams with great individual players first down here for this defense dropping back it's Club Nick looks to his left and makes the completion take a down but not before makes the first down you know each receiver brings something a little bit different to the table Chris to me the outside receivers usually a little bit longer taller guys you get those slot receivers in the inside not only can they make the catch but they have quickness to make plays after the catch break the example of that right here out of the shotgun he'll hand it off tackle up near Midfield at the 48 nice job here of controlling the line of scrimmage by this offensive line the back does what he needs to do to get positive yards on first down GB back wants to throw it on second down caught in the back field it's Adams they actually lose yardage after the catch the defense all over in that time challenging play for the offense they face third and long here from their own 43 dropping back he going to throw for the first down he's got a receiver wide open here oh and he breaks free it's a foot race touchdown Tigers just ran away from the defense now the try here for the extra point that's taking advantage of a matchup there Chris by the quarterback finding his receiver he puts the ball up in the air where he can make a play on it they come up with that touchdown now they get set to kick it away return starts from inside the five he's tackled at the 21 that's where the drive will start and the Bulldogs offense is back out on the field remember last time they scored a touchdown can they keep clicking here or the defense come up with a stop physical defending that one Falls incomplete brings up second down got it playaction fake looking to throw looks down field and connects with a wide open wide receiver they get him down to the 41 but that's good enough for a first down but you can tell the quarterback knew exactly what he wanted to do with the football he was going to that end route no matter what he hits it for a nice game here's a first and 10 play easy moving the receiver around pnap Quick Pass here comes a Jet Sweep running with purpose oh and he's in the clear now it's a foot race brought down but the gain wounds the ball all the way to the P 42 Georgia setting up with a first and 10 now [Applause] they'll keep it on the ground running back has a handoff they bring him down but a solid gain there on first down looks to be just inches short of the marker offense getting set up here's second down and now the running back's guid it again he'll be taken down but he does have first down yardage a lot of people feel running backs with aak speed shy away from contact but that wasn't the case there instead of running around the defender this back elected to run right through him good enough for first down yardage that's the thing with this guy we've got the ability to flex him out he shows his versatility what he can do from that slop position he could be the quarterback's safety blanket and the wi out goes in motion looking to throw it on first down he's got it looking for the End Zone brought down but the completion moves the ball to the six defense getting pushed back so here comes second down now every play important down here in the Red Zone hand off running right you'll make it into the end zone touchdown Georgia Chris we get so caught up in this era of the spread throwing the football and the quarterback and the receivers this is a great example of the value of having a running back has a nose for the end zone and can take it in for a touchdown they'll try to add to the lead now with the Pat the Pat is good they go up for Touchdown [Applause] 14-7 getting set to kick the ball ball off [Applause] now and he'll lead the kickoff right there he'll start from the 25 okay the Clemson offense heads back out onto the field they scort a touchdown in their last possession let's see if this defense can make adjustments and prevent that this time and it's incomplete the defender arve the same time as the football and now it's second down 42 SPID now run a draw play tackled behind the line it's a loss of two the back just had no chance there the defense is all over the draw plate that's STP of behind the line yeah I don't know if they were tipped off or what but they weren't fooled at all you could tell the defense was dialed in knew exactly what was coming and made the tackle Let's It Go quickly makes the catch downfield a finally get him down it's a big game ball moves to the 47 offense comes up to the line he might have a chance for a couple more plays before the quarter expires well Kirk it's Georgia on top so far let's check out the stats now through the opening period plenty of time for some plot twists here as we begin the second quarter so here we go first play of the quarter the offense has a first down5 dropping back it's Club Nick pressure is coming on the move but can't find a receiver and he's brought down Chris that's on the offensive line right there they definitely have to be feeling responsible because it's almost like you didn't protect your little brother back there this offense faces a second and 15 the o line needs to regroup receiver in motion now looking to pass here on second down grab behind the line it's brown Zero running R stopped right at the line of scrimmage this is exactly what you want to see from the defense yeah you give up the catch but you're right there to be able to stop this receiver from making any yards after the catch drops back looking to throw for it on third down he's going to pull it down and run defense stops him short of the marker so now it's Fourth Down the Tigers will line up to kick it away the worst part of the game now looking have pin him back deep and that punt will just bounce away from the returner and out of bound so no return and the Georgia offense is back out on the field the last position they really had the passing in quicking move right down the field for a touchdown a pop pass on the Jet Sweep he's stopped but he gets it first down the defense has got to do a much better job here of adjusting to the fre snap motion they just kind of stayed in place and it gave the receiver plenty of room there the ball is picked off big takeway now looking for a big return takes the pick to the end zone touchdown Clemson and the defense gets above scoring a touchdown to suddenly tie this football game just getting a couple turnovers from your defense is really all you can expect but to be able to get six points from them in addition is above and beyond they get their six points and now they're really thinking about winning this game you'll bring it out from inside the town and the coverage seam gets the returner to the ground offense out there to start a new drive from the [Applause] 21 they flip it to him on the Jet Sweep the gain is two yards so it's second and eight and that Jet Sweep action puts so much pressure on a defense you gets so locked in on the ball attacking you downhill but when offenses sprinkle this kind of offense in it stretches this defense out wide and can create some vertical scams for big plays offense facing a third and long from the 25 what's the call going to be dropping back look going to throw for the first down hot over the middle it's love it tackle him at the 38 solid gain nice play there Georgia getting set with a first and 10 [Applause] now they're going to run it they stop him after a 6yd gain so second and four it's a good solid game five or six yards love to see that from the running game the offense with some pre- snap eye candy looking for a gap it's etn physical run earns the first down ciz on any play call when it's properly executed it can go to the house for a touchdown but the runs that really make a game plan work are the ones where you get just what you need and he barely got the first down but he got it this one goes nowhere lucky to get back to the line of scrimmage second down play coming up looking downfield it's back and he pulls in the catch he make the tackle but that's an excellent game moves the ball to the 3 three the clock has stopped and reached the two-minute warning before halftime this line getting set up it's a first down play easy off the play fake looking to throw the defend gets a hand in there to break the pass up some players just have a real knack for timing their jump and that Defender was able to get a big pull on the ball and bat it away and it's complete downfield they bring him down but that's a solid gain on the play the offense will take their first time out of the half let talk strategy here George has moved into the Red Zone looking to throw again he's got it right near the end zone tackled after the completion down at the one yd line Bo they love going to this guy in the slot don't they what a mismatch inside he reels in another one this guy's automatic the Bulldogs line it up with first and goal 29 on the ground trying to power toward the goal line they'll stop him behind the line for a loss of one one what a job by this defense they would simply not relent incredible effort on second and goal they give him another chance and he takes it in for the score touchdown Bulldogs I think we're starting to kind of see a theme here Chris today that's his second touchdown the offensive line doing their job and he's doing an outstanding job of just reading the defense finding the hole and being able to pick up big yards and touchdowns he knocked through the extra point the lead is 7 214 now the kickoff team is out on the [Applause] field and it comes out to the 25 no return attempted there and the powerful Clemson offense is back out there well it's been an entertaining first half not much time remaining to cut into this lead so the first play of the drive here coming up less than two minutes left on the clock on First and 10 they'll look to throw it caught way down field for a huge gain breaks clear over the right side can they chase him down takes it all the way to the house touchdown tigers look like a total bust there easy pitch and catch like you'd see in a Tuesday practice Yeah that quarterback's eyes must have lit up on that play because you've got one of your players way down field without any Defender around them kickoff team is on the field to boot this one away Fields it inside the 5 yd line he stopped at the 19 good job by the coverage team fresh Senter Downs for the offense first down ball is handed off out of the shotgun it's a one yd gain second and nine coming [Applause] up to throw it's back it's incomplete he was hit as he threw that time and now third down coming up they come to the line a long way to go for the first down but needing this crucial conversion right now short throw complete to the tight end the defense wraps him up quickly got about five yds on the completion but now it's fourth down really tight coverage here by this defense now they give up the pass underneath but do a nice job of rallying to the football to keep him short of that first down marker and now we've got a decision here on fourth down they've got him but they convert on fourth down and the drive keeps going Georgia setting up with the first and 10 now that one Falls incomplete good defensive play brings up second down and a quick timeout call by the offense after the play that play makes it second and 10 here's the snap looking to throw here and he's got it they make the tackle but that's a solid gain moves the ball to the 34 offense will set up on First and 10 from the shotgun he's probing the secondary oh it's dropped off the by the defense there it's going to bring up second down we quarterback drops back we're going to test the secondary he pulls it in for a big gain tackle made after a big gain the receiver does all the work here man that is easy living for this quarterback really good footwork by the receiver gets to separation and at that point it's just pitch and catch for the quarterback the offense will Now quickly spend it timeout so the offense looking to be efficient here not much time remaining before the end of the half looking to the end zone the pass is incomplete a lot of contact on the play and here comes a late flag defense so the pi penalty cost the defense 15 and it's a fresh set of downs the dogs will line up now it's first and goal and the back now goes in motion looking to throw it's back oh and he can't come up with a catch in the end zone it's going to be second down now on Long Drive continues the offense just grinding away here second down we're going to throw it oh he can't hang on what an opportunity to score there instead incomplete and third down this will likely be the last play of the [Applause] half they'll run here on Third and goal and the defense able to bring him down and that should just about do it for this first half of play and that will do it for the first half here Kevin Connors now has our halftime update fellows many thanks happy to provide a break in the action to kind of pour over exactly what has transpired so far each of these two offenses has looked like well oiled machines but it doesn't take a genius to figure out these two passing attacks have run circles around these defenses man or Zone nothing seems to be working and I'm not sure that defensive coordinator is going to be able to figure things out here at halftime either way it's time to find out back to the best in the biz for the start of this third quarter all right thank you for the update Kevin appreciate it and the Bulldogs will kick this away to begin the second [Applause] half so it'll be a Touchback ball spotted at the 25 okay the Clemson offense heads back out onto the field K decides to keep it here that's a solid game moves the ball to the 29 well there's just so many things happening on these read option plays and they happen fast this defense has done a good job of trying to prevent this quarterback from hitting the big play he gets some yards here but at least he didn't get out for a big game they bring him down but not before he gains first down yardage a new set of downs after that completion shotgun formation here's an inside handoff breaks a tack on the play and makes a decent gain just love watching this back run Gets behind that offensive line lowers his pads and it's a nice solid game hand off to the back fights through the tackle and he picks up the first down before they get him to the ground was a nice job up front by the offensive line but give the running back an assist for setting those blocks up before he's able to get downfield for the first down quick throw by the quarterback off the RPO and he will be stuffed for No Gain well they're just fundamentally sound right where you want to be after the completion nowhere to go after that catch they'll run it to the left goes backwards losing three yards there that was that excellent linebacker with a clear path just run and down he quickly you know I think one of the great things about watching this guy play all year is his vision he just has great instincts that time the defensive line ate up all the linemen freed up the linebacker to get into the back field and the result is a tackle for a loss for the back Thon getting set with a first and 10 coming up 55 B handed off in the clear at the 25 tackle made after a nice pick up on the play Clemson now operating in the Red Zone gra behind the line it's Williams to get him down quickly not much of a gain in that completion well anytime an offensive coordinator calls a wide receiver screen he's trying to get offensive lineman out in front of the receiver to create a wall so that receiver can pick a lane to run through how about the defense here though that's called team Pursuit swarming to the football they didn't give him any lanes so not much yards downfield for the receiver and he'll drop back here on third down here's a shot toward the end zone throws it too far for everyone's head and incomplete so the coach will decide to settle for three points here out comes the field goal unit and it sails right through the middle of the upright solid kick and they've reclaimed the lead with that They Come Away with three points on the drive and now the kickoff team will Boot It Away they'll return it from inside the five he stopped at the 20 tried to make something happen but that's good coverage there and the powerful Georgia offense is back out on the [Applause] field on the run it's etn that's a nice tackle there by the senior ort second down play coming up the offense with some pre- snap motion he look to throw it here on second down pass complete on the Crosser they've got him but not before making first down yardage they'll move the ball to the 41 a new set of downs after that completion incing out motion from the offense first down looking to throw the ball oh it's incomplete that's a good job of the defender to break that up so after the incompletion it's second down dropping back it's B fired into a tight window and pick off he's got some room and some blockers here finally able to take him down but that's a great return after the pick that was an impressive effort here by the safety to use his speed and effort to get to that football and where it was headed secondary coach has got plays bottled up and the football is loose he scoop up the ball and still a live play well the offense catches a break here lucky to jump on the ball after coughing it up he's lucky that his other teammates had some good awareness we'll give it to the running back that one produc is a decent game and they convert here on third down in the Red Zone this is a fourpoint type of play touchdown or field go shotgun formation here on third down almost had it in the end zone for a huge pick instead the offense has one chance on fourth down and they will Trot out the field goal team here and it's good right down the middle well they almost put a touchdown on theard but instead they come away with three points so after coming away with three in that drive the kickoff team is out and he takes this from inside the five gets it to the 25 yd line that's going to start the drive and the Bulldog's offense is back out on the field the last possession ended in an interception let's see if they continue to trust this quarterback in the passing game physical defending that one Falls incomplete brings up second down 25 play action fake looking to throw he's got it for a big game and the gain just good enough for a first down tackle made but a strong arm thr by the senior quarterback first down play call coming up how aggressive will it be it's a run running back's got it getting close to Midfield now they bring him down at the 47 man you know the back gets a lot of the attention here and he's a good back I love to see that offensive line win the battle with the line of [Applause] scrimmage and they'll stop him short of the line to [Applause] gain offense facing third and short approaching Midfield can they convert here or will they face a tough fourth down decision can they pick up the first on the ground tackled but only after picking up a fresh set of downs nice first down run here by this running back but these are the kind of situations on Third and short that you can gain a lot of momentum or it can kill a drive and kill the confidence of an offense here they pick up the nice first down which is great new set of downs but it also gives you a lot of confidence that you can wear that defense down psychologically the quarterback keeps it here oh the defense has him behind the a line I'll tackle for loss and that'll do it for the third quarter so Clemson has the lead here Kirk as we head to the quarter break we've reached the end of three time is running out to cut into the lead let's take a look at the game STS before we move on one quarter to go let's see if this sets up as a classic finish a big play here after the break offense trying to convert here on third down we offense moving receivers around now before the snap back to throw it's spec grab made by the tight end tackle made at the 26 good enough for a first down and that completion Kirk puts him over 300 yd passing today yeah anytime a quarterback has a day like this really it all has to come together with the offensive line play receivers running these great routes and he's just in sync he's kind of in that zone right now he'll be the first one to tell you how much his teammates have helped him out today fakes the handoff here looking to throw it pass complete on a Crosser and look at the speed there they finally bring him down but it's a nice game the offense will quickly spend a timeout here after the play first and goal most likely four down territory to claim the lead we trying to find room it's etn and he's tackled down at the four yd line defense getting pushed back looks like a man is down on the field after the last play so we'll take a timeout coming up second down and goal he'll hand it off couldn't quite get there but brought down at the one yard line interesting call here by the offensive coordinator get some positive yards he keep the ball on the ground the clock will continue to roll they need a touchdown here I cannot wait to see what this call is on Third and goal and they're trying to punch it in here and the defense Smothers him for No Gain tell you what for a tired defense that's been out on that field for a long time on this drive what a stop there on Third and goal it brings us to Fourth and goal and as a head coach on the offensive intercepted In The End Zone chis that is backto back drives right now for this quarterback and this offense nothing seems to be going right the defense is doing a good job of confusing the quarterback who's obviously throwing the ball into coverage they've got to make some adjustments with their attack because right now it's not working tackled right at the 30 good enough move the sticks man just complimentary football really in a nutshell they get this football back thanks [Music] creating that turnover working with the lead like this really it's all bit over now the offense is just thinking about running the football and working that clock tackle made after just a short gain yeah I like the Run play here and offensively at this point the game you want to remain in that attack mode first while also staying in bounds and working that clock keep it on the ground to work the clock here and the ball to the ground defense falls on the ball crucial takeway man Chris we could hear the contact from that H all the way up here in the booth so hey it's easy to blame the ball carrier I don't know if anybody could have been able to hold on to the ball after that hit and the Georgia offense is back out on the field looking to pass it's back it's caught downfield tackle is made at the 8 yd line it'll be first and goal right there love to see an aggressive mindset following Sudden Change the quick strike here the defense barely has a chance to even get set up and get established before they have touchdown dogs this quarterback on fire today oh this is how you start to get rolling that's two touchdowns so far and the more he gets fed the more often he's going to cash in crucial p is good they're in front by one here in the 40 here's the kickoff team let's see if they give the returner opportunity to bring this back he thought about returning it but instead takes a knee it'll be a Touchback and they'll start at the 25 and the powerful Crimson offense is back out there that fumbled in the last possession set up a touchdown can they bounce back from that costly error here that one is incomplete took a downfield shot on first down but missed it now it's second down here [Applause] and he's back to throw again after that incompletion on first down grab down the middle it's brining Stewart they've got him but not before he makes a first down at the 41 new set of downs after that completion here comes a first down pass attempt receiver looks it in it's complete they bring down the receiver but that's a nice gain in that play pass caught second down now get get quarterback looking to connect with the receiver here that one Falls incomplete looking for a flag doesn't get it brings up third down looking to pick up the first down through the air looking to set up a screen pass here they've got him but that completion good enough for first down yardage it's so easy to get caught up under the receivers and a quarterback and your eyes get lost you forget about the running back nice catch and a first down for this offense oh he doesn't hang on looks like it was deflected before he got to it that'll bring up second down back goes in motion now let's see how the defense adjusts quick throw over the middle oh that one's picked off follows the pick with a nice return before finally being brought down boy Chris he hesitated just enough to give the defense a chance chance to get in position and come up with a big turnover first down here the offense has time for one more play before the two-minute [Applause] warning linebackers making some adjustments now second down play coming up for this offense using his legs it's Robinson try to run it up the middle but get nothing and now it's the defense that timeout here trying to get organized and preserve as much clock as possible big third down play if they can't get the stop they have to consider calling a timeout they'll give it to the back they'll stop him behind the line for a loss of one now a timeout taken by the defense trying to preserve as much clock as possible for their offense leading here late in the game they'll keep the offense on the field trying to keep possession and stretch the lead here we go fourth down they'll try to run for it the tackle is made short of the marker that's a huge fourth down stop to get the football back here late in the game buckle up he could have a great finish first play of the drive they'll come out throwing catch made down the left side an explosive play I'll tell you what this guy's been able to put the ball in some tight spots all game long and here we are late in the game he needs to continue to play with that consistency that's a great example he's up to heads out of bounds after running for the first down and keep his scoring threat alive serious pressure now for the defense trying to flex the ground game here running back takes a hand off a crank up the tempo here on second down but time is running out and now the defense decides to spend the time out to regroup a bit second down after that previous play they'll run it from the gun defense gets him down but they'll take the gain on that play hson now operating in the Red Zone looking to pass it's Club Nick scrambling now he'll make the throw he makes the grab they stop him just short defense really backed up now it's first and goal and the Tigers trying to punch it in it's first and goal and the quarterback looking to make a play through the air touchdown Clemson they jump in front here in the fourth oh I think the defense was so caught up with their eyes on the quarterback they completely lose the running back out of the back field nice job by the play caller here of getting the ball out to the running back instead of the receiver for the touchdown [Music] [Applause] now the try for the two-point conversion they try to muscle toward the end zone on the ground and he stopped short big play by the defense to keep this a five-point game in the fourth quarter kickoff team has come on the field now to send this one away well he thought about coming out but instead takes a knee and to bring the CB to the 25 yd line and the powerful Georgia offense is back out on the field remember last time they went for on a fourth down and got stopped and the opponent went right down the field see if they can recover from Matt here they bring him down but a big chunk of yardage on the play offense getting set for what could be their final drve down late in the final quarter incomplete but a late late flag comes in a lot of contact pass inter defense he playing defensive back is got to be the toughest job out there right now in college football you get isolated on Islands against these freaky talented receivers it's hard enough to be able to stay up with them and try to make a play on the ball and often you end up bumping them down field and you get a call like this offense keeps moving it's a completion for a first down dropping back it's back that's going to be incomplete a first down drop you're in the middle of the field they really could call here by the defensive coordinator working with the lead in the fourth quarter get six defensive backs with that dime look cover his touchdown Georgia they go in front in the final minute of play well this is why they love this guy so much is when it's crunch time he makes plays like this what I love is the quarterback knows all I got to do is get the ball in his hands and he can do the the rest of the work and get it all the way to the end zone Great play you'll make it into the end zone so now they lead by a field goal here in the final quarter here's the kickoff team Now set a boot this one away and he'll take a knee here not wanting to spend time on a return they'll start at the 25 okay the Clemson offense heads back out out of the field they' got some time to work with they go for a touchdown here or play up more conservatively and set up for a field goal try pulls it in it's brown defense surrounds him just a short gain on that completion the rock is still running they got to get set quickly and now they'll just clock it the offense here needs some big plays to give the kicker a chance here the clock is a factor drops back looking to throw for it on third down it's a highlight whe diving catch there offense calls timeout with 17 seconds left they need to score quickly here trying to dial up some big plays and he just throws it away there safe move had nobody open you got to get points quickly here looking for explosive plays right now quarterback looking to pass here on second down along the sideline but it's incomplete they'll get set needing to score quickly now looking for some big plays right here now that's going to bring up a critical third down here as we're late into this football game and a drive where they need points this quarterback's got to take control of this huddle make sure everybody's on the same page you have multiple plays that you could go to whether it's a run or a pass but you've got to come up with a first down and he's going to fling it deep going for it all here and it's picked off in the end [Applause] zone well the coach just kind of expected to be this kind of game an offensive show he's going to make one more play at the end to get the win and they did it yeah you mentioned the coaches I think we had a feeling that this game had a chance to get into at least the 30s and we weren't disappointed these offenses came to play but you're right one defense made some plays when they had to and the other one didn't simple as that and that is going to wrap it up we enjoyed this one here from Kirk herb street I'm Chris fer and this
