without a doubt the hottest topic of conversation for the beavs in terms of position battles was quarterback many expected it to be Ben go Branson a guy who started for the beavs in years past and has been around the program a lot but a newcomer wins the job for week one six foot red shirt Junior javanni McCoy will be qb1 to open the season the Idaho Transfer turned heads in Fall Camp played 26 games in three seasons at Idaho it was a 2023 Big Sky All Conference first team selection and the 2022 Sky Conference freshman of the year it's all fall camp and uh just kind of the last week gavan was just on a big uptick um kind of separated himself a little bit and so that's kind of what led to the decision to to go with him he started making the plays we need him to make the comfort with the offense and then doing stuff with his legs which is uh what we like about him in the first place is not only his ability with his arm but ability to make plays running the ball when things break down and that's kind of what we saw that last week I met with coach and uh he just told me you know that that I'm going to start and just that um they like the the steps that I took um during camp and you know things like that and just to go out there and um be the guy and just uh bring all those those guys around me just leave
