Alex Smith West Liberty Pregame Interview

here with Concord men soccer head coach Alex Smith and Coach you had a record breaking season last year eight wins the most in over a decade for Concord men's soccer as well as the Mec semi-final appearance um never been done in program history so how do you take that momentum and carry forward into this season that's a very good question uh the the previous coach did a wonderful job sending the foundation um so when I came in you know the most work has already been done so um getting quality guys in that Bo um superb Bo on and off the field was a big help um and just creating a Brotherhood um that helped us tremendously for striving Beyond you know what was done before so um credits to the guys last year for helping the foundation and um we're keep we we we just just going to try and keep working on our foundation until we get a stronger gotcha so you've already got a game under your belt this year already a two to1 win over Point Park what have you seen from your team so far this SE uh the the chemistry uh i' have I have never seen a chemistry this strong before um but uh the the the the nationalities the uniqueness amongst all individuals it it plays a big role um you know many of our players are very curious about you know each other's culture and way of life and so forth so it kind of adds to you know just being that gel and bonding together uh so last year you had a two to2 draw with West Liberty on the road and a one to nothing home win uh what are you seeing from the hill Toppers ahead of the uh the matchup here Wednesday uh very very strong um program uh bit nervous but excited at the same time I'm looking for towards a quality game from West Liberty tomorrow and you know we're just going to show up on the day and hope all works out so you prepar for your home open or you're back in Athens playing games at Callahan Stadium for the first time since the better part of 2019 what do you think that does not only for your team but also the uh the campus and the community as well uh it's it's wonderful I think that having um a home fan base that that would be superb last year even though our home games were in Beckley it was still technically away um but you know being at home here on campus we're looking forward to seeing a lot of friends fam staff members faculty members and giving us that extra boost so that that's really really tremendous gotcha uh you do replace a lot of production from last year's roster so who are some of the new faces that people should get to know well very good question again uh for the for the most part we have Richard Henry who is a transfer Junior from Snow College um superb standout um this this past preseason um we have a return of zachari messum Kai foresight who who has been doing a really good job lead leading this program um so those are just a few of the guys that I would like to say hey been looking really really well gotcha and as you do replace a lot of guys from last year's team you did mention Kai forsight what do kai meant to this program uh he's the the the pillar of this program um he's more than just a player right um he's a big brother he's a mentor uh he's he's everything a a teammate would want into a leader and I couldn't have asked for anything more of Kai foresight so he's more than just a player in our team he's he's Beyond just a player gotcha well coach we appreciate your time thank you
