stretch during the season where they had six games okay and and and and those six games they had less than 200 yards rushing those four games were losses at the end of the season they went on an absolute Terror they got the balance right between Blake Horvath Kanye Udo uh Tyrell Robinson DAV F and they got those guys going and they got the they were started playing complimentary football again they averaged 243 yards down the stretch in those four games all wins at the end of the season I think that Nate Woody is an excellent defense coordinator running that balance three4 that gives other quarterback's fits I think they're playing complimentary football I think they're back I don't think they're back you know just to all that just gave a whole lot right there I don't think they're back you know a team that is going to be playing with a chip on their shoulders Air Force yeah Air Force had a great year last year and I know there is no Zack larer Emanuel Michelle some of the guys you just mentioned walking through Danel Brad Roberts what they do have is they have a great coaching staff and they got a great young running back who I think is probably going to be one of the top not just players amongst the servies top players in the year and that's running back dlan Carson I think they're going to be able to lean on him a lot more he reminds me of that Brad Robert style of running back last year when he did play average six yards a carry down the stretch five y five straight 100 yard games kids going to be phenomenal I'm going Air Force winning this game new with the team trying to play from the shotgun in 2023 seems like they'll go back under Center more this year which certainly plays for their strength being yeah I think so I mean when you're lining up five yards deep to the back the ball to try to get two yards you're at a disadvantage already and then when you look at Who Army is as a football team and who they've always been just a physical dominant presence they got cute tried to run this shotgun system to run their variations as offense now they're saying the heck with it if we're coming at you you're going to know who we are and understand what we're going to run I think that's going to Bow well for them moving forward going back to the basics man just going back under Center I think it it basically empowers them in a way that they feel comfortable with it's what they've done for years and we saw the direct correlation that you mentioned Iana earlier I mean the the the rushing yards went down they weren't as effective they weren't as effective until they got themselves together and found some continuity at the end of the season where they averaged about 243 that last stretch of four games but other than that they weren't running the ball they didn't look like Army so yeah they're back being under Center is definitely better and I think this offense is going to really be successful tonight being back under Center offensive coordinator a eego centc sometimes they try to feed their ego right we see it all the time we watch ball games run a play on first down you get six yards the first thing the next play is they throw the football you should run it so that's what we kind of saw with army last year trying to change up their system no get back to the bread and butter under the center running downhill against these opposing defenses and having successful opportunities and get into positions to score points and win ball games so I think this should be fine I'm happy to hear the under Center because it didn't look right seeing Army and so much shotgun a year ago uh speaking about getting back to your bread and butter how about some Army keys for not only tonight but this season you know I think the key for this season is always going to be Bryson Dy as long as he's there you know the guy just goes out and plays phenomenal week in week out last year over 900 y through the over 9 y the over yard car seven rush and we keep talking about them being under CER but for reason because it allows them to get to their block offensive line don't have TOS longer underne Center as they do underne Center because they can just fire off the ball and get after him quickly Bryson Dy is going to have a great year especially in this new offense well my gu guy I believe we'll have a great year as well Kanye Udo when you look at what he did last season right the numbers don't lie anytime he saw 10 touches 10 carries in a ball game he averaged around 99 yard with those double digit attempts anytime he saw less than 10 he averaged around 21 yard numbers do not lie so follow the trend and finding a way to get Kanye at least 10 carries because recent history tells all of us anytime Kanye gets 10 matchups here but the morning one at the mercedesbenz stadium is between Clemson and Georgia Georgia the number one preseason team in the country Clemson coming in in ranked 14 all right so these two head coaches obviously Championship caliber coaches in Davos Sweeney and Kirby Smart they know what lies ahead for these two at noon on Saturday and they spoke about playing in such a massive game to kick off the season you know playing a game like this this is usually you get you only you only get opportunities like this in the postseason in the playoffs in a National Championship uh but this just happened to be on our schedule so uh it's a great opportunity to play the best team in the country right out of the gate our guys are excited for a uh great matchup um looks like we'll get the earliest kick of the day so it should be exciting in terms of um all the people across the country that'll be watch a great game and a really a great rivalry a rivalry that when you look back I didn't realize how many years consecutively Georgia played uh Clemson for a long time but just a lot of uh respect for their program what dab has done he's done an incredible job and for them to take over this cause I think it's a it's a it's a great um event and um to have two teams like this it's going to be awesome as you can tell there Kirby Smart really exudes excitement when he says the word excitement uh these two defenses though coming into tomorrow Stout is a word you can use you see very comparable coming off of last season pretty fascinating it is pretty fascinating uh so we'll see how it all shes out tomorrow when they take the field so the word you keep hearing is opportunity EJ we'll start with you how does Clemson on Saturday sees this opportunity against the dogs the big thing is turnover margin in my opinion because when you play a Clemson or excuse me a Georgia football team uh it starts with them creating turnovers that gave them more opportunities on offense Carson Beck excellent quarterback pass for 74% completion percentage last year which is hard to do in 707 but imagine doing that an entire season uh but for Clemson I really feel like it's just owning the football and when you get chances to have these drives get three points get seven points don't put the ball In Harm's Way to where you start doing too much as a quarterback specifically to uh to Kate Clon right and the the interesting thing is is if Clemson does that which they had a bit of a problem last year there's no shot you win this game I mean the margin of error is going to be so thin but the thing that I am paying attention most to is those wide receivers because that has been something that a lot of people are pointing to in the past couple of years for these teams saying where are they where are these guys that Clemson has been so known for for for many many years guys that I played with guys after me uh that are in the NFL still right now how are those guys going to do because they're healthy Eddie we were down there we got to see them they look fantastic can they all put it together stay on the field because I think they have a really electure group it was exciting to see those guys in person uh you watch them on film and and then to see them the way that they move they look like NFL guys but they have to prove it and and it starts with game one and their excitement came from the evolvement of k k Club Nick they said he's making checks at the line of scrimmage that he's more accurate with the football but the main thing for me is stop the run I I know Georgia has two running backs out in Trevor etn and Rodi Robinson but you still have to stop the run if you can allow Georgia to be uh running the ball and uh passing the ball and that allows the play action which is why he was able to complete 74% of his passes it's going to be tough to beat this team so stopping a run is number one for me and I'll add tackling because it's the first game of the season and every game we've watched the past two she's some bad tackling and usually that's normal cuz in training camp you know th guys helmet shoulder pass maybe not banging as much as we used to when we were playing college football but I know that's going to be a huge area because if you don't tackle on the edge that's where Georgia can kill you I mean you got a four yard game that turns into a 24 yard game every time so that's going to be key for the perimeter guys and I think just to double down on what you said that line of scrimmage this this is an NFL offensive line right for Georgia I mean literally all five guys might be drafted or playing in the NFL one day on the Clemson side same thing though you want to be that that's who you say you are defensive line you all these things you have to prove that again and this is a great tape for the NFL yeah cats and dogs going toe totoe tomorrow at noon we'll be live from inside the Benz at 11:00 a.m. with the Huddle but down in the swamp it's going to be a steamy one at 3:30 between Miami and Florida it's going to be a good one though this is an instate rivalry both of these teams have a lot to prove this year both of their coaches as well and by the way Miami comes in with aand new quarterback under Center and cam Ward here's what he says about proving himself on Saturday uh yeah I have a lot to prove to myself um I have a lot to prove to my teammates and you know that's really the only thing that matters to me is my teammates and myself so you know we're going we're going to rise still occasion we're gonna be prepared to play um and just defensively Florida um they're a good defense um from o line I mean from D line to cornerbacks safety they're they're a good overall defense and you know they going to be physical with us we have to match the physicalness and you know the end of the day is football you know heads are going to get hot um but we just got to keep our [Music] composure all right what is most important for Miami if they want to pull off a win against Florida on the road the most important thing is hold on to the ball uh it's it's going to be hot it's going to be sweaty and we saw last night with NC State the ball's on the ground a ton and that's why Western Carolina was able to be in that game turnovers so it's going to be hot you're going to be you're going to be tired but holding on to that ball is going to be a key to me it's weathering the storm man you're going to the swamp that place is going to be jacked up if a big play happens special team something else that can change everything and you've been there when it can be riled up I have to imagine that big offensive line lean on them run the football keep your quarterback clean and i' add to like you said with weather in the uh storm is also you know controlling your emotions because it's a rivalry game more than anything it's a obviously a cross ACC SEC but all these guys know each other everybody for the most part is from Florida or from South Florida so it's going to be a lot of you know talking back and fourth and Florida wants to show that they're a better team than they actually get credit for a preseason and I'm sure Miami wants to follow up on all the greatness that they've had this off season to all right for you are rqb cam Ward's coming in with a lot of expectations what do you want to see out of him in game one as a Kan a clean game but I also want to see him take the game over too like when you get into the second third quarter there's no need to feel like hey I I got to govern on this thing college football presented by Dr Pepper ACC season is underway for the Duke Blue Devils this is the lid lifter for 2024 against Elon alongside staz on Clay Justin wal down on the sideline a lot of folks here at Wallace Wade Stadium and waiting for a long time for tonight to judge what the Manny Diaz ER is going to be like what Malik Murphy is going to be able to do at quarterback we've seen one half what do you think you know I'm encouraged I I see Malik handling himself with poise he missed a few throws early in that half but he's but he came back and hit that one before the half and uh I think his receivers have helped him there a little bit the line has given him good protection um you know I think on defense they've been Sensational there's no doubt the Duke defense has carried the day so far for the Blue Devils in that first half they were finding a way to get to Downing the quarterback early in offense yeah I mean there's you know five sacks on the day and N tfl so I mean these are some examples of some of these sacks where these ends are speeding past these tackles and just creating havoc and here's a great shot of Malik you know collecting connecting on that beautiful post route that beat both split both safeties for a big play and then of course we have the big touchdown run where he outes everybody in the end zone and they score that touchdown that was that turn around after missing the field goal by Elon talk about five sacks nine tackles for loss this the most sacks in the first half in the last 20 years for Duke I me I guess it's no surprise man defense Manny Diaz known as a great defensive coordinator and his defense is certainly head of the offense at this point for more let's go down to Justin Walters yeah Clay I caught up with Coach Diaz and he told me to no surprise he was really encouraged the way that his offense ended the first half he said that would help calm their nerve he says you see what can happen when Malik Murphy hits on some of those long passes defensively he loves what that group is doing on the other side coach Tiani said that the first half they proved a lot of things they can sustain dri they can flip the field but on offense they must they must protect Matthew Dow that is a key thing but defensively he loves the way his group is playing and he thinks that this half is where they're going to shine right and Downing 6 for 10 56 yards he was sacked five times of course so D beat him up a little bit find some protection see if Elon can get back in this ball game but Duke is going to have it first to start the second kick off theot of Maran and Duke is going to start at the 25 yd line so Malik Murphy the Texas transfer this is the first time Ki he's a starting quarterback of a program so you know I think we saw some nerves a little bit early on Steve but he warmed up yeah I mean he hasn't played a lot of football and here he is now you know number 17 kicking team the 5y penalty added to the Touchback first down so Duke's going to start at the 30 after the penalty yeah they're going to uh uh you know have a series here I think they want to go back like they started the game with a nice 13pl drive let's give a little Kudos though to Elon they've played pretty darn aggressive on defense and those kids have played tough It's a credit to their program and to their coaching staff I'm very uh excited about them I think they're going to have a heck of a year here seven starters back on that defense couple of safeties played well in the first half more the running back quz the catch out of the back field that's going to be a gain of five Atkins gets there to make the first tackle of the second half great great play by Atkins I mean defeating that perimeter block out there by the out making that play's first pass and is over thrown intended for Jordan Moore kind of dangerous there couple of defenders in the vicinity including one of those aforementioned all-americans khil Baker yeah that that wasn't a great ball and really uh you know could lead to a knockout punch for the receiver right there leading him into the safety like that so that was a little bit of a scary throw was trying to hit Jordan Mo six catches 65 y in the first half Murphy quick out and it's caught by Samir Hagen catches last year the number two returning receiver for Duke and he gets eight in the first down ran a little pick route out there really well executed screen nearly got enough for a first down he's going to get eight on first down that was a quick touch great job by Malik great job by the receiver good blocking out there well designed Murphy the captain one of the four captains for Duke as he won the starting job about two weeks ago he was named the starter for the [Applause] blueing some speed that's a of azing had a CET he could stand like seven on seven like his practice you know we call it Skelly and uh threw a great ball and you know great after catch right there so nice job goes to again Ste wrestled toeline by Brooks G of about four they brought a weak safety Blitz that time and and and Malik saw that threw the ball out there on an adjustment route mph is wide open boy they are using him a lot on this opening drive of the second half and that's a first down philad that was rough at the end of that he got the back of his knees rolled up there at the very this play watch this catch great catch gets his feet in there he's kind of out of bounds and then boom he gets the back of his legs taken out right there I'm surprised they didn't throw a flag it wasn't intentional but still was dangerous it's Jonathan Robinson the corner [Music] Florida off that's Caleb Cur his onth grace the defensive with a ton of pressure on Murphy I don't know if he forced the throw a little bit because of that pressure he didn't see it coming yeah no Fina got beat on the left side right there and and uh he took a pretty good shot well he did he he hung on that starting to feel the effects of not as much depth against this Tempo offense right now they're getting tired and Duke isn't nearly running at the tempo that they were earlier in this game they kind of he does wrapped up it'll be second down and goal there's I I I like their skill and uh and I think their scheme matches their skill and I tell you what I do like I like the fact that John Brewer he's in this offense though he's got some some 12 Personnel he's got some tight end Wing formations that they want to run the ball behind so I think it's a it's a nice mix of of vertical passing game and uh and some hard hard downhill runs as well there's Jonathan Brewer he's got a Little's a little Lashley a little Thomas topped it be third they toch here late Grace Tucker combin on theile they're going to be back here in the city of Durham next week we've got another game in this town at NC Central game's going to be on plus and I Tony trani they're not going to win this game but this defense is is tough and they've got some offensive weapons obviously boy he's talent and I think their quarterback's tough and gritty I think their team's tough [Music] Andy that was a strike [Music]
