impressive team hugely impressed with him he will be in the car for the remainder of this season and we know the pace that this Williams has in it l stroll also caught out by the yellow flags felt minimum Q2 from him but ultimately disappointed with the results of qual as was Yuki sonoda big upgrade package on the car this weekend but Yuki saying that for him unfortunately the feeling is that the the uh upgrades that they put on the car feel great in the simulator the the numbers are great and then you put them on the car and it's not replicated so he's scratching his head the [Music] team a massive job from both of them G feeling confident once again and we saw last time let's move up to the Kevin magn ining really good actually he was luy to make it out of q1 after finding the gravel but make it through a little that session merceded the maxim and that's why he up so close to the top the top and by an absolute fraction Fernando Alonso really a brilant from again in a that hasn't felt his theide and he he a good fting up and he says Hey of the Willams ahead of the ason but then the Williams of Alex Al says that he's incredibly wary of their house alongside him who will have the pace and the the big thing going into this race is that honestly nobody knows there's gun hey gun no one knows we are stepping into the unknown here at monzer and that's very very rare for us to be able to see this this track has been here since 1922 but all the drivers saying it's driving like a completely different track this weekend we are stepping into the unknown in terms of what tire de will be like will the drivers have to conserve will the drivers be able to push that ultimately will be the difference in how this race plays out Alex alurn a brilliant run there for him up into P9 great run for the Williams driver then the big confusion of the weekend and it's not just a confusion for assers to why they're here it's a confusion for them because when you look at that top six split by less than two10 of a second Max for staing himself half a second off Lewis Hamilton in it didn't look comfortable for either driver throughout the weekend but particularly in qualifying will that be rectified once they get fuel in the car they took a big cut out of that rear wing has that unsettled the car on Saturday and ultimately given them this car that at the moment and as we saw in qualifying was so far off the pace or is that actually a very smart move from the team to put them more into the window of a race car over a qualifying car I tell you what this is going to get very very busy so we're going to attempt to go our way through the middle but we may have to jump to the side Lewis Hamilton there in front of the toosi he will be wearing red this time next year he was thoroughly disappointed in himself because he felt he could have had pole yesterday so a P6 for him and we know Lewis's lofty expectations on himself not quite met he said I hope that Kimmy Antonelli onto the second row of the grid but the big question we all have is of the pace of these McLarens their ability to get off the start line and down there into turn one and should Lando Norris lose the lead and should he lose the lead to his teammate what will the team employ in terms of race strategy in terms of Team orders do they believe that they have a driver's Championship up for grabs or are they content simply to get maximum points ever order to take the Constructor Championship which appears increasingly to be coming towards them lonor as we know has had a reputation of late for four starts and it is a long run down to turn one how much will that play on his mind how much will that be playing on his mind right now as he moves to the front of the grid along with all of the drivers here on an incredibly busy Monza grid to take their place to pause to look to the skies for the fly over and to here the Italian national anthem [Music] [Music] spe for [Music] [Music] [Music] D my goodness heat is radiating IM I also think the top seven cars are all capable of winning the looks tical so I think it'll be trategy [Music] andul if we do have a fight on our standing we could a swing is now your number one driver we got two number one drivers which is a uh a great position to be in Oscar supportive of of Lando all year there's some things people see there's some things people don't see but I can tell you Oscar's a great teammate they're free to race and we'll see how the race plays out how excited are you that you have McLaren in thep McLaren is flying me through that progression yeah I know all the men and women at McLaren have done an unbelievable getting these cars as fast as they are and then obviously the the guys are getting the job done in the car um I think Red Bull's faster than they qualified today I me I don't know what happened but I don't think that's representative of their race Bas so and I also don't think Max will be seventh after the first lap so he's very much in the game today constructor's title though is also very much in your hands at the moment in the position you're in yeah I'm feeling pretty good about that but uh we're still behind we're not in front and there's a lot of races to go and we see how quickly the change so we're just doing what Andrea asks which is one day at a time one session at a Time One race at a this title fight how do you respond to that is that what you expected or I was expecting something like during the race probably we're going to help London also for the T championship and the driver Championship but anyway it's going to be important both dver for the start to cover the position to cover the line and try to be leading after the first lap because we know the strength of McLaren is opening the cup in the last part of every single so it's going to be crucial to start we see as that brown I confident happy with the position that McLaren find themselves in here he did say to me Red Bull are not going to finish p7 they are faster than they qualified how do you see them potentially using strategy should this tip to a two stop because of the high temperatures yeah probably because during the rest weekend seems that the degradation was higher than the previous year and usually it's one stop medium hard but seems that this year all the teams they ready to have medium hard hard so to stop okay for sure Hilton and besta they going to rec position but wait we have Ferrari in the middle I mean with all the crowd all the atmosphere they want to go on the podium so it's no going to be so easy overtake them and let's just have one word on those knocking trying to knock the door for the top 10 and Alex Al and Nik hulkenberg making themselves as wide as possible to keep them out us look at the heat Haze over it it's magical isn't it is so invocative here it's not even easy to see the first Corner down there will be long straight for Norris from the PO outside line so is even more difficult to try to cover the position okay the adrenaline now over 100 my adrenaline is up here let alone what it would be like looking down to that knowing you've got to get the start right feeling the heat in the pit Lane as well Lawrence and will uh we are feeling the heat the pit Crews will be feeling the during this Grand Prix lawen traditionally a one stoer but it could be a one could be a two could even be a three today stepping into the unknown yeah talking to Andrea Stell actually this morning he was saying is creeping towards a two stoer it's so much hotter here the track temperatures are significantly higher that we've had all weekend long it's going to be a day of risk taking is someone further back going to take a risk on a one stoer and try and make something out there day this is the thing if it's so close to a one stoer to a two stopper do you hold back do you conserve and run slower or do you just go for it gun it and commit to the two and there's so many unknowns hav the hard Tire run basically on anyone the teams have no data on this tire this such sering hot conditions it could be so unpredictable and of course the opportunity to run an undercut if indeed they're going to run multiple stops today potentially pulling people out of DRS trains and throwing the strategy right up in the air well we saw how powerful the undercut was in sanv and because the top four teams are so close on performance anyone who makes that call could leap up several positions around here it's going to I think a step into the unknown but also a day of reactive strategy making you've got to be decisive and proactive with that that's something McLaren have struggled with this year they've struggled but Ferrari very strong in zort and a reactive strategy McLaren I do feel they're making baby steps every race weekend long they're getting that confidence they're a front running team now they know that they can start moving forward and may being a bit more aggressive I think in that fight for the win today and that is ultimately where this race will be one or l on the track but here in the pit depending on exactly how many times they're going to need to run through this pit Lane the temperature is absolutely soaring down here you can feel it bouncing off the asphal back into for now from Lawrence and I will send it up to Laur I think a little guarante one St Yer is no more you might have to stop twice to win this Grand a French driver will look to move forward his teammate is the next car ahead Grand PR here in 2020 Kevin magnuson's 13th start I've seen I know why pH Pino is 17 improving uper place what happened to oh and somebody went to the grav in front of Hamilton's radioing that he got hit by sign in the start and he did is this okay I don't think Russell's front Wing is okay as I did see carbon fiber flying over no I mean hamton Hamilton car is okay his left front got touched remember he started third was trying to go with pastri into the first corner so he's lost out big time George Russell now behind the Stafford George Russell with one of the worst starts I've ever seen in my life as he's seventh now behind has a lot of Dage George does have a lot of damage the CL of course and George will decide if that's dangerous I don't think that's going to do anything to force him to have to come in I think he I think will have to bit under safety concerns for rest of the drivers in track his team lamilton this is very scary for nor as he's 1.7 from so right nowen is doing good on D so that would be front Wing change easily did a lot of damage in my career so I am very to Pi up on it lovely to see OS showing what a great driver he is land will try to keep out as much as this does not have DRS so that's going to be very very questionable on how will he perform in this most teams are going for a one stopper but you never know saf in we back to the of the yeah were all off the line fairly in great order you can the sensal move late on the breaks from pastri they go Fairly so close but fair between the two McLarens and it's just a beautiful move from piastri no sign of Team orders quite clearly for McLaren and it cost Norris another position the Big L slide through goes the start was exactly what he needed into the first corner but then to be done around the outside was was a disaster for Ricardo what is he doing brenberg yeah Ricardo squeezing hulberg onto the grass that was little setting a his lap but is matching that as well couple of position gained on for Franco who finds himself in fastest the pre Che from the crowd who are into it like they were last year when they led the first 14 laps with Carlos s so Les Wing is is it is in the pit and it's not I don't think it's fast must be this be long hard tires unsurprising going it's a long way toy47 for Hamilton last as a result that is p the dver TR to scrubed in the Ws with both of the vs I think Ricardo might get a penalty for their tires their race Pace compared to their qualifying Pace has been so strong in recent races last time out was nowhere in qualify managed to get very keep it there for the moment that so Maxa being told by GP his race engineer to keep a watching brief and just what they have for the being in the lead of theair away from the over seconds away from his teamate as they regroup told to retire the car he's heed that instruction he doesn't have the greatest luck here two out of the last three races before today he didn't even take the start and today he's retiring at the end of lap seven after being hit frustration for the fenza B Team Bas just outside of IM Italian venue on the formul 1 see the damage on the the side pod there so hulberg will uh will be due a penalty for that penalty for forcing hulkenberg off and H and vard will probably continue to fight because they got Magnus with Ricardo next so it's all going on in the Midfield out front I think Norris is holding back saving tires I think that's the only thing he can do right now it's a DRS train ahead I think he's got to save the tires and try and go longer and do something different to the two ahead of him but it's I find this Dynamic fascinating for McLaren as impressive as that move was for piastri it was a beautiful pass really ended up compromising their race from a solid one two we'll get into that in a moment because it's a key moment but the two alpes were racing wasn't much of a race was it breezing on by Pierre gazley and he takes 13 get 5 Second 10 second time penalty for Nik hul he finds himself down in 19 right to go back to your point J on lap 53 DC when you were fighting for the world championship when NE H was fighting for the world championship he was the lead Contender you were both mathematically still in in cont for at Spar 1999 you put a bit of an aggressive move on him at the start similar thing yeah absolutely and I remember on the podium n wouldn't speak with me I'd won the grand PR and uh some crucial points in his battle with Michael had been taken away but until such time as a team start issuing team orders which is their right that's in the driver's contracts I'm sure it was in Julian's contract as well that you should follow the instructions of Team principal or delegate from the team and until that time comes you've got to race as hard as you can I'm super impressed with what P did there that is not an easy move and it was so brave at the start of the Grand Prix risking coming together with teammate given how new to the party McLaren are um but he's that's a real statement of intent there's a long way to go in this Grand Prix but this actually gives McLaren a bit of a problem I'm sure that Norris as julan has said is playing the long game should in theory have the underl case to still get in front of Clair but then that leaves them the problem do they try and switch later in the Grand Prix I know I'm throwing it way down this afternoon but realistically with the points Gap noris is the man that couldn the chion Daniel Ricardo at the first turn just covered this off when he outre himself Fernando Alonzo as the car ahead he did rejoin directly behind J Norris has got lir ahead of him now so they can't just swap the places around because they're first and third so they've got to do something about lir who's very fast he's just done the fastest lap of the race so there's two sides to this firstly F's move was like I said it was exceptional it might be the move of the season but the fact team orders there at McLaren and he's allowed to go and fight has given away this head towards a a nice win here's the move for Sergio Perez he got a horrible amount of dirty air coming through the parabolica sent him wide through that corner but even with that he's able to move ahead into the breaking Zone and take seventh place and George Russell has gone from chasing third position trying to turn it into second position going long at the first corner of the RAC TR and he's tumbled down to eth position Kevin Magnus fights his way by he's got Daniel Ricardo at the Rane the first one on the RAC TR what was quite telling for me is even with DRS when C Perez got alongside George Russell they were almost just n Tu in terms of straight line speed it's almost like the DRS effects on this different Wing configuration that red have brought to this R Prix is not as powerful George Russell's been called into the they to make about whether they replace the front wing of that car yeah I think he's struggling for Pace isn't he do you have opinion B so just coming back to what we've been discussing there now faor noris in terms of strategy to try and get him to jump so now anything relative to Pi but if they do find themselves in a situation where they're running one later in the Grand Prix that's when things get complicated for the manager then they have a direct decision to make that could be hugely consequential for the driver Championship especially George Russell a good qualifying Saturday the EAS to the race avoiding action to First oneing the wing Alex cont byar yeah how nice was that move from mag on Ricardo before Ricardo picked it as well the outside turn it was a lovely move from km who's now up into the top 10 and for Russell is a compound issue really daming front Wing because on a day like this where the track temperature so high it's 33° out their air temperature you then start damaging tires and every lap it gets worse and worse so finally he gets a reprieve a front Wing change and he can feel what the balance should be like in the Mercedes bus find themselves now in and seventh Max seconds away from the lead of the Grand Prix Serio Perez 11 and a half seconds away from the lead of the Grand Prix but they will get the medium tires on Lower at the end of the race a compound lighter absolutely and this is a situation that CZ has not been in for some time looking at the gearx of his teammate after 12 laps um we know that they'll be managing the situation but it just feels that as difficult as a qualifying as it that been AER weekend in relative forez trying to return to the podium today it's his longest run off the Rost he joined the get back as DC couple ofac away te that is George Russell back of Fernando alons that hard tire that may be a two stop for those guys everyone else is heading towards a one stoer by continuing to circulate and look at the Gap now P toir two and a half seconds onard here with Lando norres and was sure heing into the pit it would have surpris me because he's homing in on second place he's got DRS yeah that's interesting that he's chosing to take that that shorter line and coming out of a little bit the slipstream and again even in down into the first Corner taking a slightly unusual line is that a cooling issue you're not quite getting enough clean air I wouldn't have thought at that distance it would have had that big an effect he was doing it already qualifying that inside line it's justen the dist to end of the lapo my word Lando Norris has got that gap down from two seconds which was out of choice but as he tried to close it to within DRS range that is how easily your race can and a little bit of gravel brush onto the circuit this is the corner looking at it one lap later you can see the telltale signs of that gravel he's thrown on the track it's have the consequence of gravel some of the runoffs because there isn't the option to open the steering and go up a mistake he get away with it this one time thear nor got the of got in there but he is really pushing on down to half a second's ising away quickly Su we do to on CL so thees out he's hit the mar coming into the and I think he got away with it but was he over theit lane speed limit well we'll find out pretty soon but a lack of Concentra or a drop of Concentra for Lando was a late call from the team let's see if it works out okay so he goes to the 2.2 second stop is fairly useful but he was hot into the pits and now he's going to need a real push on out laap to try and heat the pressure on charir and also his teammate Oscar pastri last week lir box to overtake on pastri got himself a Podium this time McLaren have gone for that exact strategy to try and jump the Ferrari but wow it's such a difficult line to try and get down because the speed is immense coming through parabolic you then ping it off to the right and get down to theit l 80 kph and I wouldn't be surprised if Lando might have gone over that he was all locked up and he couldn't turn because he was all locked up and he touched the marker very important for this out laap that he cleared the Alpine of estan that's for position no difference in lap at the moment that was air racing focusing on his race this is the moment that Lando Norris was told by his engineer theit Lane scrub off the speed at massive lock up the and well it's actually quite a tricky one julan isn't it because you you're judging down to the speed that you can see on your your dash but it's more a sort of memory of what you've done in the previous laps so he won't know whether he's been speeding as he cross the line in comes charir trying to cover off that pit stop from McLaren also in Le Hamilton hitting his marks at the moment the Red Bulls released up to third and fourth on that hard tire that will go longer Oscar P Remains the race where is Char Clair where is Lando Norris on the left hand side you're on board with Lando Norris and then we will get the picture of where he is relative to this man and he's powering through he's getting ahead there he is to you he was ahead we it in the end Lando Norris leaps up to what will become a second place in the Race's was just quite high at the end of that stin so it wasn't even a close thing for him but he had to just and get off that tie he was losing too much performance so it's that Norris put into and so far no sign of the speed liit issue but we'll we'll wait and see hopefully not and well this is an opportunity for Norris a long way in this Ground Three to go but if he wants to start putting heat on the a you can use those new tires as join the A on the entry parabol he's going to peel into the box has proven in the past of being a master yeah just looking at his dashboard there us see 79 km an hour and that helps the driver judge as he breaks down to the ti L great work by the team that was slick stop so 23 seconds you lose look a quick stop for p he needs it he had a buffer of 26 when he came into the pits and Lando Norris has finished second to a teammate around this circuit Monza they collided at this corner last year at Monza and that is Oscar pastri on new hard tires covering off his teammate Alex Alin is yet to stop Charles obviously felt he could keep going on those tires and accepting that his Cas is his Pace but wanting to be onto those press tires later in the grand PRI which's got a you've lost the place then putting yourself in like for like situation against the car which we believe has an underlying race T Advantage you're Ferrari they've Norr relx a mandatory compound in this Grand nor who is chasing Alex Al for but up the road is Oscar piastri and will we get a sequel to the stunning this Grand PR when the two McLaren were side the so gando Norris we will have to cover the other Cary cover for the other car you're asking for a defensive mindset already yeah you highlighted it there Alex the difference in mner speed between a new set ofs and a very tired set of mediums for Al the Apex spe parabol visibly I think it CAU CAU Lando out a little bit parabol drama the has a penalty for failing to serve his time penalty correctly at the pit stop a penalty for not serving the penalty correctly it's going to be one of those days for wow yeah that's just operational situation when you come for the Stop TI crew should not touch the car for the full 5 seconds and is it because of that front Wing was touched it may seem harsh but uh rules are rules watch the it's a harsh one isn't it because quite clearly that hasn't assisted anything he's realized the error of his ways but for that Ricardo's day is basically over that's how that's how much that makes a difference there for for Ricardo we have my mother don't touch the cookies piastri is now directly behind Norris is directly behind Oscar piastri so that conversation that we were talking about nine laps ago can now come into play Charla Clair with this wonderful camera that we have on board to show you the speed of the ferar around their favorite Circuit of them all well it gives you a great idea with the speed it's 41's fastest average speed venue of the Season that McLaren could well have a decision to make Max staffen second lesmo he does just dips that front wheel over the carve under steer through there and then rear wheel into the gravel it'll cost him a little bit of time but he's trying to manage how far he can go in these tires versus the drop off and grip as we now SS into the pits so signs believed that coming in and getting rid of the medium tires for the hards as early as pastri Norris andir did was was too much he's come in a few laps later he has an offset to chase them down he is a driver with a track record of calling strategy correctly 2.4 second stop as the Ferrari rejoins yeah and he should come out into clean air ahead of oron or maybe not quite this is going to be the battle of the breaks I think he's going to win it so that's absolutely key that's what they would have been looking at you got and then directly behind him Hamilton so he should be able to break fre on those new hard tires as um that battle between we'll see Hamilton getting the pass done here as well on the run down to the second chane yeah Hamilton's going to make his way by OK on to stop covering off Hamilton was the big one there first s so he's extended the stint and he is looking Plum like a one stopper the other three they have pitted pretty early for a one stop still so they going to have to look after their tires pretty carefully lir and the two McLaren to make sure they'll go to the end and science can push on a little bit more and see if he can catch them and make it a four car train he's got Hamilton for company but Hamilton also pitted pretty early and should fall away as the stink goes on yeah Hamilton's got uh got a pit stop over V stafen who's leading this Grand Prix so V stafen pits eventually he'll still come out into that window behind Hamilton but on fresher tires and Red Bull issued the instruction that the pace can now be picked up so they are racing to a prescribed time out there as they try to take those hard tires a long way so they can attack on the mediums later on Max staffen told to turn up the wick he's the race leader he's ahead of Sergio Perez maxen trying to do what he did in 2022 around these parts and win from seven on the grid George Russell making the passes the next move we're going to show you that is on V Bas for ninth position yeah working his way back up to what should be place in the top 10 but probably behind Perez assuming everything runs normally from here to the end of the Grand Prix but Hamilton putting some pressure on the back of ss who's C they come out and decided to not hit those hards quite as aggressively he's also thinking long term here isn't he for the end of the race and making sure that he keeps that tant all the way through because he said earlier on he's not sure that those ahead of him that have pitted won't have to pit again so he doesn't want to get in the same tickle for himself but Hamilton's also showing how difficult it is to overtake six1 away on the start finish and really making no inroads with the sream and DRS this is Kevin Magnuson trying to pull off another overtake and this time wasn't as special as the move at the first K contact with Pierre gazley y on that Dusty inside line locks up and well was always going to be contact if gazley didn't uh use the Escape road but it was Wheel tohe so there should be no longlasting damage that's what can happen at the second chane Roger the second around this circuit here is Fernando Alonso trying to displace valri botas yet to stop Sala team really struggling for form yet to have a pass yet to have a point so far as you watch the pass from Fernando Al point in 2024 for either driver Maxa being called in as Alonzo gets up to 10th position 22 laps done then and they believe that they can move on to the medium compound of tire that's early to go on to the mediums I don't even think that's a definite one stop for Red Bull they have to use the mediums they've started on the hards max was given the hurry up a couple of laps ago and he's found no more pace so they're not extracting a huge amount even in clear air now and they're going to cut their losses he's going to come out once again behind Hamilton on fresher tires but a more fragile medium he assuming a normal Pit Stop will be out just in front of okon who's still to pit but uh they've got some form in the past they do a lot of it started in their Formula 3 days Maxin being greeted by the team still in the lead of the Formula 1 Constructors World Championship Red Bull Racing that doesn't look quick on the rear of the car and that's a slow stop he didn't need that happen with the has the fastp red tur a St for Max set hard's going back on so that's a two stop locked in and isn't it funny when things are going well the 1.9 second pit stops are coming in the strategies are all golden the drivers aren't making mistakes and suddenly the pit stops are not good the strategy doesn't look like it's worked out for them you are allowed to race Oscar Pap pyal o papaya rules can't wait to find out what they are cuz it looked like gloves off on the open lap of the Grand Prix indeed and Max staffen not having the easiest of weekends furious with that one take two for red B their second car in the Grand Prix is pitting from the lead I think I'd be worried that hitting the steering wheel I might knock one of the switches or dials so accidentally give you a burst of drink yeah exactly he's practiced by now this weekend though isn't he good point yeah he across the practice sessions across the qualifying hour has been leaving one hand off the steering wheel in frustration not with the turn and Poise of previous year's Red Bulls and they have found themselves caught for race Pace by McLaren we do this we just get run the tire as hard as he wants and then they'll make a call as to when it runs out of r that by but that is to AOW Point scoring this afternoon well he again he soas perz they've both gone hard to hard so at this stage flat out just thrash it you'll put on a medium and then it again to the end there's no more will have to whatever Pace you canive he got hard and hard 24 or 53 you had to get to around he didn't win me how far did you have to get 27 it is compulsory for someone to change a tire compound this isn't a in the known foration but the newface it's going to be interesting there's a front Wing flap at the end of a skar Magnus his own cameo in this Grand Prix we're back on board with him 13th Place and this time he fights his way by into the parabol you don't see that very often he gets by in the House Clearing Pier Gaz was a four laap tire offset he's on four lap pressure tires than the Frenchman and this is going to be another passer position this time we see estan oon continuing to run on that tire he's just been passed by Paris we saw Magnus leaning his head and very early to be experiencing some neck fatigue but maybe just uh it's it's a high G Corner parabolic well over 4G in the RAC Tri George Russell in on the back of okan okan yet to pit so it shouldn't be too difficult it's an unfortunate place for George to be coming onto the back of room though because uh no real opportunity to get anything done between the two lesmos pick up a slipstream here down to a SC but it will be really dirty offline be forced I thought he was going to be forced to try and do it around the uh the but in the end fail the straightforward pass into that as Scout as you can we've seen from the junior categories earlier in the weekend the bumps so Hamilton does seem like he will push but man the ties as well just putting good lap the third chicane around this RAC track named for ital's last Formula 1 World Champion on the weekend it was announced that the 18-year-old Kimmy Antonelli would be George Russell's teammate for next year he is the great hope of Italian racing launched through bypass some categories and he's been launched straight into a prime formula one seat for next year Kevin magnuson's on the attack once again Val botas continuing to run a long stint on that hard Tire magnuson's come in 10 laps ago to get pressure Rubber and he moves up to 12 position Alex Alan has lost a place to Fernando Alonzo compared to where we were earlier in the Grand Prix and estan okon has still yet to stop try to figure out when batan makes his his additional stop do will find himself running behind if we assume Alonzo Alon are all trying to do a One Stop he can find himself behind those guys but with a racy set of tires is uh is anyone going to have to follow them it does look like the others are are comfortable to try and get this one stop done they're still rocking along nicely for comes across the line and does a new fastest lap of the race and look at the Gap now between the two McLaren over two seconds piastri and Norris so even though papaya rules and their racing right now it's Aussie rules piastri just extending the lead nice I like that 2.2 seconds out front it is often given the high speed of this place the fastest gr pre of the season when it comes to the actual minutes raced out there this is Fernando Alonso in the green ason making his way past his old teammate estan Aon just running his own race we've seen so much of Aon being passed today but he's going for that one stop Alonzo's already come in for fresh Rubber and he is up to ninth position Fernando alono trying to get a run of Point scores continuing he scored in Belgium he scored in the Netherlands and he's looking to continue that today this is Daniel Ricardo we're on board with Pierre gazley is the driver ahead in 14th position Ricardo's race Coming Undone after getting that penalty for squeezing n ber opening La of the race and then failing to serve it correctly so he's just having fun out there and trying to recreate one of his great dive bomb moves of old and Pierre gazley has to take avoiding action as a result and doesn't even argue it through goes Ricardo yep steady enough pass on there and actually just looking a bit outside our top 10 and kapino is only n seconds behind Al andly I think that's a pretty solid given where he started and in end up a few seconds behind at the end of lap one he's matching him lap time wise as well so pretty solid debut although not showing any signs are getting points Alin is in a net 10th place at the moment because oong still has to pit and Alber PS it later the most around it this was very generous wasn't it from from gazley to cut the CH give the play straight up not even trying to fight it out on the radio no point was Ricardo ahead tried the switch back dive bomb move and he pulled off so many times when he was with Red Bull winning Grand Prix week in week out seven wins with Red Bull the one win with McLaren he only Podium finish around this circuit on the top step of the podium for McLaren in 2021 after that coming together between Ven and Hamilton who were separated on the racetrack by 73 seconds way if the way if you are a fan of the driver's World Championship closing up but for Oscar piastri he's been told Pap rules on the radio they clearly have a race plan for what to do in this situation as Lando Norris sets the fastest lap of the grand PR so You' have thought if they had pre-planned that if they W two Norris would would take the win they would have might have told them on the first lap not to go he a leather and risk coming together to just take the race lead you'd have thought they might orchestrate that from the front row lock out but there was obviously nothing in plan there they went wheel tohe the actually pulled off a beauty of a move and if they're then going to reverse it it seems like all of that the risk and everything in that was was for nothing and at the moment there's no sign of them reversing it yeah I think I agree with that and I think uh it may well be as simple as going okay first lap you know normal rules apply Do Not Crash with your teammate it's fairly obvious statement but you're allowed to just let the first lap unfold and that's where pastr I'm sure with our our old friend Mark Weber would have been in his ear going right son you've got to get aggressive on that first lap you've got to try and see if you can find a situation that makes it very difficult for the team to um start favoring one over the other but the risk the risk of doing that when you know the all the momentum is with Norris in the in this title fight with the staffen McLaren coming on song he actually got his race win but the risk of sending that around the outside hold on a minute hold on a minute your nickname was Julian highrisk Palmer you were you the king of taking risk and even I think it was too much we'll debate this as long as the McLarens are one and two which they are at the moment Ferrari three three and four signs with a tire offet pressure R to push on leis Hamilton 1.4 seconds away last time around very similar lap times for SS and Hamilton both the Red Bulls are on a two- stoer they have to get new rubber once again and we're looking at Alex Alman trying to clear estan oon now as 's just running this incredibly long stint and we go on board with Franco kapino who started in 18th Place he is now in 16th position trying to line up Pierre gazley directly ahead D who's won this Grand Prix in the past and gazley is not having an easy time of it out there because that's a really nice move on debut for Kinto who was fighting in the Formula 2 Championship earlier this year his previous he's had a good couple of days in Italy in his career this year won the Sprint race in Formula 2 in IM and makes his Grand Prix debut in MTA very solid overtake there using DRS it was also a great opportunity to be on board drivers's view just see the effects of the lap time he gained a full almost 410 with that DRS on the run down to the first corner and now nicely set up starting to struggle this is when Red Bull started to around lap 15 in the stin hello hello you there strategy to still unfold here we know so had a very big lock up or something because now has DRS on serz again he's over the road at the firstan he knows the Rules of Engagement though and he will have to give Perez the place back he does so is he going to try and do it in a way that gives him an opportunity to attack once again race control can sometimes be a bit sniffy about that they don't feel you back the advantage and stay behind charge though at the moment trying to take right what exactly happened aaty if itn't out he's managing it better than obvious as he R toward parabol this is lir feeling comfortable feeling racy but too far back I think at this point even with DRS Lando's made a mistake on the last lap in the middle sector he's lost two seconds to pastri and look at that Gap now suddenly between the two mcclaren's 5 Seconds pastri leads Norris and Norris is under pressure and we heard he's not sure about his front tires he's heading towards a two stop out I thought it looks like if you look at the graphic there that it's going to be the second lesmo once again our team will cycle through and find the replay consequential moment let's look again this is noris now we're heading to the second CH in fact and this is going to be into the Roger on board with the driver who was second and having to Scamper on having to go to the correct side of the bards and rejoin and that sees Char Clair in his Wheel tracks yeah I would love to be to see the offboard again as you see the replay of George Russell trying to go around the outside of Perez Perez just nicely opens the steering to say no I'm not going to give you that space could and now it's just bit now finally um what he do going be interest position andace me well I think the clue is in the name Grand PRI racing of course once he's giving you position back he's going to try and race you into the pits we come Lando Norris less drama this time when he off the speed for to come in early for the rber again so it is a two- stoer unlike previous years he will get the rubber first and Lando Norris being held for a moment there 3.3 seconds Max ven pushing on and ven at high speed clearing the pit straight before Lando Norris can get there through goes the leader of the world championship and Lando Norris drops behind Max on the RAC track so leads seconds now clear ofir canair try and go to the end there 20 more laps or will he pit and just have fresh to go and attack Norris McLaren presumably will pit piastri as well to uh to drop him back but they've got to wait until the Clair pitch just in case that Ferrari try to do something clever and go for a long one stop all George Russell in Spa yeah well the clar has just po the purple in the first sector he's running pretty much uh well he's gly up ahead but um that would suggest that he's not trying to manage those tires the next couple laps will give us an indication as to whether they are going to try and E it out and uh potentially be tired and tireless towards the end of the race or whether he just follows in on two stop don't know my so lot of long right handers around their circuit the two lesmos and parabolic that we're coming up to all put stress on that front left and Lando taking more out of it than some of his Rivals today and you know what I wouldn't be feeling too clever about if I was Lando Norris right now looking ahead three seconds up the road and seeing Max besten now Max has to pit they're not in a direct fight but I wouldn't still like the prospect of trying to pass him on track with pressure tires ever since Austria they have been going wheel toel this is George Russell into the PS slow to the rear tires potentially the reason why 4.2 seconds turning into one of those days for the winner of the Austrian arm pre earlier in this season yeah if Red Bull famous for the marketing wanted to have a bit of fun they could have written on the underside of the rear wing on Max don't even think about it some drivers they should have approached with caution we've had that in the past in Formula One it is pastri finds himself in the lead over Char Clair Char Clair asked for a tire offset asked to run a longer stint than Lando Norris not to respond on the first opportunity wonder if he'll get it with this he's been on those tires for 18 laps now degradation far more intense here than in previous years it is coming down to how you work those Pari tires so pastri andair still stay out they've got to watch each other McLaren have got no incentive to P piastri until Clair makes a pit stop if he makes a pit stop let see what happened to George Russell back of ser Perez sniff of grasp on the way into the first it's an unusual one you watch Julian he just drifts right over onto the dirt just seen that all weekend people it's almost like the white lines have been magnetized still asphalt just over on the uh on the grass it's like it's painted brown and green for the for the dirt and the grass magn back in the wars this time with Alex Alin consequential move that for Kevin Magnus up four places from where he started the Grand Prix he hasn't scored a point here in a decade at L and he gets by Alex Alin who had fresher tires on the car that is George Russell's slow stop problem at the ri right rear again that was the same issue for um max faten there shouldn't be any reason why it's more difficult for right we Gunner but U may just be a coincidence so Vin's got a chance now to meddle with Norris's race Max is not having a brilliant afternoon here Red Bull is struggling he's 8 seconds still away from Le Hamilton he has to make another pit stop but he's got no real threats behind possibly George Russell but Sergio Perez is no threat to Max V Stafford but if he can just maybe slow Lando Norris down a bit now if he can slow Lando that will help charl Clair to take points off noris later on so it's in Max's interest now to actually just compromise even if it's slightly his own race he's not going forward in this one he's struggling if he can just force Norris backwards Championship wise could be huge yeah we've got Alonzo almost a pit stop behind V Staten who is the only one that really is getting in his getting in his way um so and he's going to be thinking he's in a different race alt together so interesting to see now exactly how much longer the St stays out and we've seen Magnus do this countless times this year in Zan board he managed to uh to block Alex Al to the tune of four seconds in one lap for example now that's extreme but it's possible and it's not easy to over here fresh tires for Norris and uh fundamentally a quicker car this weekend but lir is a threat for fando he's not pitting he's going to have fresher tires later on in the Grand Prix assuming he does pit he might not pit and uh it's not working out all that well right now for Norris this is going to be a move for George Russell getting past Daniel Ricardo G Russell different races meeting there not a move that was going to be super late on the breaks Russell's race coming undone the opening corner of the opening lap when he had to take the Escape Road and damage the front Wing that then had to be replaced Daniel Ricardo running in 11th position 24 Laps on that hard tire so going a really long way having had that penalty earlier when it's possible to defend you want me to race him yes please yeah it is a bizar bizar radio message to but for all the reasons that jol has outlined they to try and slow down Norris's progress here a simple Max it's an off weekend it does show sort of clarity of thought for Max his faal awareness of what's going on trying to reach out to the team who can see the bigger picture just across the radio the staff's been told he had to disable some power unit performance which is why you might notice the clipping so they try and get that back later all over over the road as they scramble past now Perez gets by Russell gets by and Alin is struggling with that Williams at this stage of the Grand Prix both of them were going to Raw by anyway so not a hugely consequential error but he is struggling into turn number one to get it slowed down osri has been told on the radio how long have we got was the question not long was the reply so pastri is going to fire it in for a consequential pit stop next osar do you think there's any chance we can one stop I don't think so is pretty pretty dead understood there's not many laps left in this CR Prix though there's 23 seconds for a pit stop the saying let's have another pit stop but lir might fancy as chances the Ferrari's not been great on the tires in the first half of this race the first in but overall this year it's not been bad there's a chance forair to just keep going and see what happen yeah I think that if there was any chance of a victory be worth rolling that but one expression we haven't used for a long time is of falling off the cliff if that front left is just seeing such high we that you end up with no gauge you're effectively just running on the canas George Russell trying to scrub off the Speed from 200 milph was eventually given the space by Sergio Perez and then deliberately ran it deep into the first turn to make a point I believe he's going to go oh man comis osar will crash come on crash crash crash crash crash speed for that Mercedes goes George Russell and he's up mgive not room for we cut to osam McLaren have dealt with the car put on a new set of hard tires charir takes the lead the grand Marg tole that people are for can you do a One Stop he was told he said by way of reply I don't think it's possible Ferrari have a one two at Monza lap 39 of 53 Oscar pastri is ahead of Max stappen Max stappen who by the rule book needs to put another compound of tire on the car and has only stopped once but pastri couple of stops and both of them leave him ahead of Lando Norris yeah and the two Ferraris circulating at Mid 123s sta Norris well Norris 1231 so only a few T quicker so for Ferrari just coming to Julian's point maybe they can make it work this is I don't think this is working out well at all for McLaren Norris is barely quicker than llarena ven's two t0 quicker than uh than those ahead Norris is 410 quicker than those ahead he's only got 14 laps to make up a 23 Second difference it's not working for them and that's a huge risk asri under no pressure in the race lead it's a huge risk because they've just handed Ferrari right now A onew and they can just see if if they could make these hard ties go to the end Oscar's got to unleash some serious Pace to go and catch them what a fascinating twist in a that has come alive imagine the WIS oh my God and now Norr trying for the first time in this 13 laps left and took C7 I let him go or do I race and two in you never know oh and Happ battling against who still needs to stop McLaren have elected to two stop Ferrari have a onew at the moment he's 21 seconds away from charlot Clair with 13 laps to go it is a question then of whether Lando Norris can clear Max just happen it is a question then about whether Ferrari's performance on the hard Tire will hold or do we go back to DC's point of the dreaded Cliff which we never had in recent times and you've got to go back a fairly long way for a driver to win the Italian Grand Prix with more than one stop no red flags no safety car just more than one stop in a straight fight Sebastian vet in 2011 this is a traditional One Stop Grand Prix and McLaren have gone for two still for oh this is going to be lovely unless they feel that they just run out of front we're going to see some defending would say it's my and my tires are pressure they've got to go to the end they've got to try and go to the end now there's 12 laps to go these laps fly by there six corners per lap you don't gain a huge amount on Fresh tires let's see p that time 1.4 seconds quicker than lir he's got to hammer it Norris going for it going past and that is a fairly efficient move I don't think theing can come back into turn number one by the time that we get to the second chicane there might be an opportunity McLaren need to put the hammer down now as Norris gets ahead of his rival for the championship but Lando Norris was on Pole Position Lando Norris was dreaming of 25 points he's just ahead of Max stappen for stappen does have another stop to make yeah pastri has just gone 1.4 seconds quicker than the CLA so they realize they've got to get on with it so it is really in the balance now this is Kevin Magnus who is finding himself being chased down by George Russell Lando Norris with the fastest first sector of the Grand Prix so far he did have DRS he did have the toe it is coming down to strategy it is coming down to how you use that pelli rubber at Pell's home race of Monza and one stop for the Ferrari two stops for the McLaren maxen being called in so J slowing down L noris this was finally the move Max cost Lando quite a lot of time on that final half he was nearly two seconds slower than piastri ahead but piastri guys has to be near a second and a half quicker than lir per lap now to get back to him which he is he's 1.6 seconds quicker so he's doing your predictions but he's got a clear s oh s has to do a mental defensive lap I feel like s won't let him go that Championship leader at the start of the day by 70 points you get 25 points for winning a grand PR Ferrari haven't had a one around their home circuit since 2004 when Ruben's barello took the win ahead of Michael schumacker it was that way round I had to check it it was that way round I promise it was often baraco finishing second to Michael Schumer it's George Russell by and get Kevin magn oh I feel like has might make a mistake he pushing the Ferraris are going to try one they think difficult but they might as well try so this is qualifying now in the words of St just TR fast how about it the McLaren's at maximum attack Ferrari at maximum conservation this is absolutely fantastic isn't it this is just turning this race on its head and uh well 10 laps if there's Tire on the canvas they can get it to the end it's if they get to the point where they physically can't they're covering off no one and they're opening the door forair to do the one stop as I mentioned before all George Russell and they've given them a chance TI L Clair's just got to nurse his tires to the end he's got a teammate to try and act rear Gunner which is going to happen very
