all right it is just about mid July now we are getting close to fall Camp which moves us closer to the beginning of the 2024 football season a very big season indeed I do believe so we've kind of had a few things going on wrapping up a bit coming into Focus so I'm going to do a uh roster and recruiting update to catch up on what has changed what hasn't changed and what might change or what might have already changed and we just don't know yet in the meantime this is WVU football going deep I am Forest Poston I would very much like a cup of coffee right about now but we will move on and as we do I hope you will share subscribe click the Thumbs Up Click the sub uh subscription Bell make comments and talk it over with all those friends of yours now recruiting and roster there have been some changes in the roster in terms of of who is on it uh and where they are on it now I've been talking for ages about the scholarship limit uh got to get down to 85 we are currently at either 86 or 87 the fact that we don't know for sure is a sign of how confusing it can be I mentioned before that Victor Wickstrom has taken Medical retirement that got us down this much my understanding is that the situation is in hand everything has either been done or planned and just waiting for uh you know formal things I don't know if somebody needs to finish some cours work and then the paperwork before they announce things uh that would be my guess and again from what I am reading no one is involved that's going to be a big shock surprise or problem just people like me who want to know things I have talked in the past about how questions are a lot more fun than answers but dang it you reality is I do like information of course information is part of what you use to build ideas questions and all of that good stuff um in addition when the media guide came out and I if I remember I will put a link to that in the description if there is no link there remind me in the comments uh with media guide came out and people started pouring over it and by a goly there were people listed in there at new positions and Coach Brown had not mentioned any of this and no one had asked about it because they didn't know there was anything to ask I don't know what he might or might not have told us if he had been asked uh but uh what people have discovered is uh on sort of a minor note or in Fisher has been officially listed now as spur he was previously listed his uh defensive line which was kind of ridiculous because his weight was never going to get to the defensive line Point uh he's currently at 6'6 220 lbs which isn't too bad for a Spur would like to see him add a bit more uh but he's also been in a very large leg brace uh starting the end of last season don't know if he is out of it or not hopefully that is one of the things we will be getting word on when we have the first uh fall Camp press conference um kesan Robinson incoming freshman has been moved from wide receiver to safety not a big surprise he was recruited as an athlete with expectation that he would be tried first at wide receiver but the wide receiver room is you it's going to be a really hard place to find playing time safety we've got a lot of good safeties at this point but it is not a packed room and we picked up one less safety than might have done uh depend again how you figure the numbers for how many you know players wanted in each room we're all guessing what Coach Brown wants and what we want well what Coach Brown wants matters so kesan Robinson has been moved to safety uh which also means we'll have a lot more speed at safety than we did a few years ago uh interest and I don't think I haven't seen this one actually mentioned I just noticed it today Avery Willcox is now listed as spear rather than safety uh he is of course a walk-on who's been on the verge of getting a scholarship for a couple of years uh uh red shirt Jr I believe that uh he might get some playing time there there are several good players but we'll see what happens now the most interesting is that uh Maurice Hamilton has been moved from offensive line to defensive line most likely nose guard and he did play that position in high school so it's not brand new to him but he was getting buried deeper and deeper on the depth chart over on the offensive side uh CU I mean we have just we've recruited well and the guys who've come in have worked well so he didn't you know last year he was injured um I'm not I oh think somebody said he had a car he was in a car accident or something I don't recall but he did not manage to work his way back into playing time last year so I really he was on my list of 10 most likely to transfer he stayed I would imagine in that this was already being discussed as a possibility uh and might be why he stayed and once Corey McIntyre went out for the year uh a little bit earlier Zeki lton took medical retirement uh assani Redwood is coming back from an injury so once you get past the two deep on the defensive line we got some serious questions We've Got Talent but there's a lot of Youth there now Hamilton is entering his third year so he's got experience even if it is with the offense uh and he also comes in at 335 lbs uh 6' three I think this makes him the heaviest defensive lineman we've got uh bigger than either MBA or Russell and this might mean we can move uh Gabriel out to you know uh tackle and whatever you want to call it it's essentially interchangeable now um Hamilton's not listed on the depth chart I mean we had three deep and with Gabriel actually listed as number three at nose guard in the media guide um but that is going to be one of of the biggest stories in Fall camp now a lot of people may not cover it because right now he's what fourth on the depth chart you don't give a lot of time to a guy fourth on the depth chart but if he starts to make a move and just you know I mean the the entire situation with that third rotation group on the defensive line is going to be a big story uh but he could be quite a run stuffer don't know where he stands in terms of strength but he certainly had time to work on it and hopefully has been doing a good job of that now recruiting what has happened in recruiting since we last updated nothing not entirely true uh we got the 21 commits that we' already talked about uh let say don't think can't remember if we've gone over those player by player so that may be in the future uh maybe a live video we'll see um but uh we had some guys that had West Virginia in their top group waiting to see see what they were going to do all of them committed to somebody else now some of them West Virginia had pretty much certainly already said we're not going to take you because the room was full uh so they may have listed West Virginia as one of their options but West Virginia was not an option we did not lose those players we had a couple uh that is like man hey if they want to commit the room is full but they're good enough to take anyway well they didn't commit so we didn't have to figure out what to do about it there are still a couple of guys out there who would probably be takes if they wanted to commit to West Virginia but they're looking for space in one of the big big blue blood kind of programs and some of them would rather take their chance and ride the bench at of blue blood rather than take what they consider a starting spot at a lower school well that's okay uh I mean I can understand if they want to go someplace like Ohio State I've been there I don't want to go there was not as a football player but I do not want to go there I wouldn't mind checking if the used record shops are still around on High Street but other than that Ohio State can just go their own way I'll go mine and Ohio State won't mind either anyway um we have 21 players we are we're full if we need to be we don't have a spot that it's like oh gosh man we got to get a player we could stand another linebacker maybe but the linebacker room's getting full and it's young um I mean you know we're talking about you know a lot of second or third year players uh so they've got you know two three years left we're bringing in two very good-looking freshman so we only signed one or got a commitment from one linebacker in this class that's fine if a really good guy comes available you take him but we don't have to go you know begging that's that's a good thing uh much the same on the offensive line would could Pro we've got three commitments a fourth would hurt if it's a good commitment but we're not going to take somebody just to be third on the depth chart three or four years from now or come in for a couple of years in transfer now that could mean picking up a transfer at either either of those positions uh or it may mean just leaving things be and of course there's always the thing that it may just wait until next spring see how the transfers out figure in and then you make those choices so we are in good position uh and dang it really looking forward to uh fall camp and the season and of course we're still not getting much respect from most of the media but that's fine uh it annoys me but it doesn't matter nearly as much as what really happens for which we have to wait and see all right uh once again please share subscribe click thumbs up the subscription Bell comment tell your friends uh and come back often to see what I have uh manag to come up with in my uh caffein addled brain so long guys I'll see you later
