the international break is here but before that Spurs had their toughest test of the campaign to date at St james' Park and it was certainly a thriller of a match but maybe not for us as Newcastle ultimately managed to snatch away the encounter and walk away with all free points following their absolute smashing of Everton last week Tottenham and an POA goloo had a lot to deliver coming up against a Newcastle side who were clearly out of form but they couldn't quite deliver what the fans wanted with an explosion Ive second half performance that should have resulted in an absolute demolition of Eddie House side Newcastle managed to snatch the game away due to two simple mistakes in anost goo's defensive system in today's video we're going to break down how Tottenham dominated the game with their new attacking system but ultimately lost due to the same issues with their defense Brandon Johnson's fantastic performance off of the bench Ru drazen's efforts to replace Mickey vaner van and why exactly Spurs need Dominic Salan back soon but before we do get into it please do smash that like button and subscribe to the channel for more Spurs content first thing something there surely needs to be some discourse about but as we mentioned Spurs were missing one of their most important players with Mickey vanen out through injury but just how good was dracen as his replacement with a Romanian coming in for his first start of the Season he played a vital role in the Tottenham side winning all of his ground jewels and making multiple vital recovery including a a Flawless tackle to deny isaach who looked certain to score and another player who there's certain to be some debate about after this match is Spurs new signing Wilson Oda who had a bit of a mixed performance while his allaround play was fantastic causing the Newcastle defense a lot of problems while also being extremely accurate with his passing however it has to be said that the French Winger was not quite as sharp when it came to the final third missing a golden opportunity in the first half and wasting another in the second when Spurs chasing the winner do you think that is perhaps too soon for AIO bear or was this just a case of him finding his feet in the Premier League let us know your thoughts in the comment section below now some of you might be confused about how exactly Tottenham lined up with Johnson dropping to the bench in favor of sa evidently for a more defensive approach than the one they took versus Everton the front free was kulvi son and oder who was given his second successive start after a fantastic performance against everon but which position did each player play in a lot of people surely thought it would be son starting up front after seeing the starting lineup but that wasn't the case Spurs actually lined up with kulesi up top just like we saw in preseason with Oda on the right and son on the left but how exactly did this work out well not great exactly while Kazi looked at his usual creative best dropping deep on multiple occasions his presence in front of go was practically non-existent the Swedish midfielder only managed the single shot throughout the entire first half and only three touches in the opposition box do you think kulesi is actually good enough to play as a center forward or are these areas the kind of situation Spurs Miss Dominic San let me know your thoughts in the comments below it appeared Posta golu agreed with us with SAR going off for Brennan Johnson in the second half ton and reverted to the same brand new attacking system they utilized versus Everton with a front four of audio son kizasi and Johnson to overwhelm that Newcastle mid block do you think that maybe this should have been in the way Spurs lined up in the first place well it would appear so with the Tactical shift at halim Spurs dominated the game going closer multiple occasions with AIO bur missing a huge chance while Pedro parro hit the post and it wasn't long before Spurs got their equalizer with James Madison firing a dangerous ball into the box Nick Pope mishandled it allowing the substitute Brandon Johnson to capitalize on all the pressure Spurs had been piling on speaking of Johnson how good did he look when he came on not only did he play key part in The Equalizer which was practically all him despite it going down as an own goal but he also generated multiple chances looking like tottenham's most dangerous player in the second half maybe we were perhaps too critical of the Welshman but let's go back to the first half to discuss how Newcastle lined up with a system that meant to be Kryptonite to tottenham's attack we of course talking about that low block system we despise when teams use it against us in defense the tune shifted into a 532 system system with Anthony Gordon or Harvey Barnes dropping back as fullbacks depending on the situation with eak leading the line to exploit any chances in transition when they were able to turn over the ball but Newcastle weren't the only team who could catch their opposition lacking in transition in fact it was in those situations where Tottenham looked the most dangerous while Spurs couldn't manage much against Eddie how's midblock when Newcastle pushed up the pitch Spurs were able to get into situations like this where it was a free versus free situation and that wasn't the only weapon POA goloo deployed a lot of you might remember bosa's beautiful strike against Everton right well Spurs were actually trying to recreate it with s with how's side continuously dropping back Spurs always had a man free on the edge of the area and with both puma and S being such dangerous Shooters that's always going to be a threat with the senagal midfielder winning two corners in the span of a minute by simply taking shots from range while Spurs may have struggled in possession due to the mid block a similar issue to last season they still had weapons with odar in transition and basuma S and Pedro parro on the edge of the area and this just shows the evolution from last year last season when Tottenham were faced with situations like this they probably would have just needlessly tried to play through the block giving away possession and allowing the other team to kill their high line on the counter like we saw against Liverpool last season do you agree that Tottenham have enough Firepower to break through the midblock or is it going to be the same old problems as last season again let us know your thoughts in the comments Tottenham managed to create some Chances with these weapons but Newcastle were the first to strike and it has to be said one Earth is the positioning of this goal just take a look with a cross coming in from Lloyd Kelly it seemed almost easy for Harvey Barnes to fire home and it's pretty clear why just take a look at the setup for this goal everyone is all over the place James Madison is out wide playing as a right back Destiny doggy as a center back who's marking nobody and Pedro porro is all the way out to the left the issue is so clear to put it simply if Tottenham were to invert their fullbacks into Midfield then they would have been ready to get back into the position because if they don't you can see what happens ultimately Tottenham dominated the second half and it looked like they were going to get revenge for the last 5-nil smashing at St james' Park but you have to get the ball into the back of the net to win a game and Spurs could not do that but Newcastle could with Newcastle being forced to sit back for the majority of the game it only took one ball to exploit tottenham's High l leading to this situation where it was easier for isak to score than to miss even with all of that attacking Talent on the pitch and with all of the chances Spurs generated it was Newcastle who got the winner and not Tottenham well that was disappointing wasn't it again we looked like we should have ran away with in the second half and we couldn't even walk away with a single point Spurs did a lot of things right in the match especially with some fantastic performances from certain players but certain issues with an poer goo system that we've all complained about in the past have come back to bite us sure Spurs new attacking front four or five system was something to Marvel at as well but it's certainly vulnerable defensively especially against stronger opposition but it's undoubtedly exciting to watch this is what we said word for word last week and we were right this tactic has its weaknesses against stronger sides like Newcastle so do you think an should continue to utilize this system or is it a step too far even for him will jusen managed to put in a consistent performance after an impressive first start and do you think audur deserves to start the next game let us know your thoughts in the comment section below and if you enjoyed today's analysis
