2022 Wake Forest Football Schedule Announcement: Coach Dave Clawson on ACCN The Huddle

pause coach dave claussen's on the sidelines you got to watch out for this wake forest squad coach clawson we appreciate you joining us and when i look at the schedule i circle games that i'm really excited for what do you look at with a schedule when it's laid out in front of you what is the thing that you immediately go to yeah i think more than anything uh i look for the balance of home and away games that you know you never want to have two or three in a row on the road or uh i think i look more for schedule balance we already know who we're going to play it's just a matter of when we play them coach i'm going back to last year i can't help it i mean after watching them ruin the quad and having you know bringing that much joy to your student body i know that had to feel good were you out there when all that was going on did you witness all that stuff no i was with you guys what a terrible but i had the pleasure of hanging out with you guys and had i'm sure just as much fun i always like to ask a head coach this question when do you want your ball club to have you know i guess be playing their best football because a lot of times you always say we want to show up every week but to consistently win you got to be playing your best football at some point in some segment of the season uh what would you say you want to see your team kind of peaking so they can have that long haul to win an acc championship possibly a cfp title well i think the goal is always to get to november with something to play for hopefully a championship or the college football playoffs or you know some years it's been a bowl game and then you want to be peaking in november but with our schedule we better peak a lot earlier than that or november won't mean as much coach i know you value your packer and durham mug i know that's exclusive it's a very rare thing to have maybe we can get there one day though maybe there'll be a huddle some of them are coming your way but i want to talk about a.t perry and what you expect from him going into this year because it's my impression that he has the chance to be one of the best if not the best in the entire country what expectations do you guys have from him just to keep making progress uh i think the thing with a.t is he really came out of nowhere last year because of donovan green's injury and what i'm so excited about is you know we have donovan green coming back who we think is one of the best receivers in the acc and now you have a t perry coming off of a great year and you have taylor moran and jamal banks back and keyshawn williams did some great things for us and uh with what we do on offense if we have the ability to win one-on-ones on the outside that really allows everything to open up for us um and when we've been good at receiver uh like we were last year like we were in 19 with kendall hinton sage sarot and scotty washington that's when we're really good on offense and uh so i just think at has to make that next step but if we can get donovan green back and taylor marin and keyshawn and jamal going we have a chance to have a really good receiver core again in 2022. that's beautiful coach now between now and spring ball i know a lot of developmental stuff's going on what are some of the things that what are some of the things you guys do with the guys to get them ready for spring ball you know i think every off season is a little different you know quite honestly we played 14 games in five months this year and so i just want to get our team back and fresh and to get the strength levels back uh to where they were before the season started last year you know the surgeries were a little bit later because we played on a december 31st bowl game and i think more than anything you just want those guys to be excited to be back out there again when we start spraying football so we pushed it back a little bit this year because of how late and how long the season was a year ago and uh you know we're excited to do that but you know every step in building a team you can't skip one of them and i think for the next five weeks you know we want to become a closer football team we want to get ourselves stronger developmental toughness in some of our early morning mat drills and i think doing all those things correctly then sets you up for a productive spring football you know which then heads into your your summer program and then your fall camp and coach you talk about that recipe of success but also going back to last year you did a great job obviously went to the atlantic and got to the acc championship game didn't win it now what was your biggest takeaway as a team that you learned from that opportunity because say you get there again this year how will it be different you know if you look at the the history of wake forest football our ability to win turnover margin is critical to our success and we played a very good pit team with a great quarterback and we lost the turnover battle by three or four so you know that was one of the few games that we didn't win the turnover battle and it showed up in the final score so i don't know if we learned anything other than those fundamentals of taking care of the football if you ever don't do that you're not going to win and it's just a shame that we did that in a championship game but fortunately we were able to bounce back and get into the gator bowl and found a way to win that game and winning that last game really sets up your offseason so again we were disappointed when texas a m bowed out uh but i certainly uh respect rudkers for what they did um and that was a big win for us and uh you know your last game and the seniors and a lot of times that bowl game sets the tone for the next year more so than the the acc championship game yeah well coach here's to you uh getting stuck hanging out with us on set after uh you guys are rolling the quad somewhere else come this season we appreciate the time coach dave gloss i appreciate you guys giving me the pre-game talk for nc state everybody thank you everybody on the huddle picked nc state to win it that's why you're the best coach because i knew you're waiting for the time to use it you stuck the landing at the end a very good time it was just hey we knew you guys were well like what are you talking about y'all you all picked us to lose so coach i go through the schedule i would go one by one okay which games are the hubble gonna pick us to lose so we'll make sure we have those ones taped coach we hope to see you on the road this year
