e e e e all right good morning everybody Saturday what's up Mike yill with you I'm wearing the same shirt that I had on yesterday Eagles won last night um 3429 I had 312 something I don't remember what I said on the air but um Eagles one and0 let's get into it let's get into it uh normally you play on a Sunday and you have Monday to react on the air well the Eagles playing Friday night I wanted to get into this game um man there's so much in this game so we'll spend you know we're going to go a little while here a you guys um give a couple minutes uh for the room to kind of fill up a little bit more we got a bunch of people kind of popping in right now I see everybody kind of getting in there if you want to comment and leave a thought on the game um it's a little much of more of a step on the xplatform but just click the video and at the bottom it'll say say something and you can give your thoughts in there and we'll pop them up on the screen if anybody wants to get involved in that way if you're watching on YouTube you just comment down there I should get the comments and we'll interact that way if not if you don't want to comment and you just want to kind of have a cup of coffee I got my West Virginia mug ready to go today was a disgrace last week um we could talk about uh the game all right so a lot of thoughts on this game last night there were so many things saqu Barkley was everything that I had hoped and more uh I love the way they used Barkley last night I thought that Barkley was going to be a huge Factor this season um and in the game I love what they did with Barkley I I maintained all along you pay1 million 12 a half million dollars for a player he better be a big part of your offense he was a huge part of the offense and he has gy up he's got speed he's got first and it's only going to get better that field I don't want to be the guy who blames the field all the time because that Super Bowl field was a disgrace that field last night was a disgrace it was awful for both sides for both sides every time someone's going back the Noah Eagle who was the play-by-play guy last night you know oh so and so slips he slips he slips that's disgraceful for an NFL you can go to Mainland High up the street from my house and get better field surface I mean seriously NFL that's the surface you put together for a Prime Time game with these two teams for everybody to watch it's awful awful so that's number one number two can you imagine Barkley playing on a turf field or a a well-maintained field the speed the Eagles put up 34 points last night and they're slipping and falling and and and all now you say so with the defense I think it was really hard for the offensive players Green Bay as well Green Bay had a lot of times where the receivers slipping and the balls thrown behind them I just don't understand how the field was like that but I don't want to Bone the field too much uh what's up Mark good morning to you hey Mark uh Kristen I think it says Kristen I I usually wear glasses when I'm on the computer because I can't see the the things but uh what's up uh Kiren sorry Kirsten Kiren Kirsten Carter uh good morning guys um anyway I I 34 points on that field last night it shouldn't be bemon that you know I kept hearing about the Eagles not playing preseason games and all that stuff you know Jordan love threw two passes in the preseason um Josh Jacobs had one carry in the preseason one and those carries and passes happened a month ago do we really think if the Eagles played in the first or second preseason game that they would have looked any crisper last night of come on people nobody's playing in the preseason in it they are playing it's very limited play and it's weeks ago you can't play in the first or second preseason game think about it we're on September 7th and the Eagles played early this year so normally the games would have been tomorrow so they wouldn't be playing really until September 8th well you go back to when the Eagles first or second uh preseason game was you're looking at about a month ago so preseason games were not going to helped this team look any better last night both teams looked like they were sloppy on offense I think both teams looked like they needed the preseason look if you told me they're gonna play the first half of the first second and third preseason game that's different but people boning the fact that they don't play at all in the preseason Green Bay's guys literally Jordan love threw two passes and Josh Jacobs ran the ball once I don't think the receivers had any catches I don't think Reed had a catch dos had a catch if they did maybe 1 so the preseason thing is an argument that we can just kind of table to say nobody's doing it it is what it is everybody looks like this but I thought that field last night slowed the Eagles offense down and the Packers offense down and the Eagles still scored 34 points Barkley still went over a 100 yards Browns still at over a 100 teams are going to have all sorts of problems to figuring out what to do with this team but the guy who has to and I think the footing on the field was plain in in Jaylen herz's head too because did not look crisp running the ball until late in the game I think Herz played a very uneven game last night but when push came to shove there was one run that he had to try to get a first down and he kind of slid and his feet came out from under him and I'm like man how do you not just lower your shoulder how do you not have the inner drive to want to just lower the shoulder and go get that first down and he did it late in the same drive he slid on a on a on a run and then later on he did lower the shoulder but I think that footing on the field was something that Herz was kind of thinking about as well um he made some bad decisions bad decisions last night um really bad decisions bad throws bad decisions bad anticipations I thought he played a very uneven game and I would say more uneven concerning more than uneven positivity positively um do I think he is a lost cause absolutely not but that said Jaylen Herz for this team to be what they or be has to be better he can't turn the ball over uh Jurgens with the snap I don't know who fault to that was um probably it looked like bonds from the interaction on the sideline uh kirston let me see I see some messages coming in here I think people are putting too much stock into one or two preseason during the possessions no point really I agree that that's the preseason thing look if you told me they're playing full halfs for three preseason games yes you're getting something out of that one or two possessions eh I I I I can't buy it sorry um I just I just don't see the value of trying to get hurt and quite frankly you play one to two possessions what are you really running you know you're vanill in things up you're not you know so that being said I thought Barkley was awesome last night I think he could be even better um I think the field was a factor with how they used Barkley last night but you saw the explosion the catchy made the way that they used him between the tackles I think is the I think the line getting push off on that field was a problem as well I think the holes will be there he's got the explosion I think the Barkley acquisition I loved it when they got it I thought that you know I've been saying all along you know my sanders was a 1200 yard back here last year had had Swift with a thousand yards Barkley should get 1500 yards in this offense uh rushing the football I me he's that good I love the deal the move to get him and I was only thing I was concerned about was how they were going to use him are they going to use him as a feature back last night as we talked about on Friday show with Sal pal Antonio 20 plus touches is the number get them over there and there's still plenty of breadcrumbs for everybody else Brown went over a 100 I thought uh I thought Smith was going to be the guy last night that ultimately was gonna have the big night because I thought he was going to have the better matchups but listen um and Smith made some great plays believe me Smith was a big factor late in the game when they needed to move the sticks Smith had seven for 84 but Brown five for one19 you know and I said I thought Smith would get the bigger game he did have the more catches but they were more possession catches very tough man uh doson didn't factor in the game last night I guess they just don't have like a feel for him yet but I think he's going to be a bigger part of this uh offense and why other guys will get open I don't know if his numbers are going to show that but I thought Brown was awesome last night at times and Smith was awesome late in the game when they needed him the most so uh the offense last night gave me a lot of reason for being um excited about what they can do offensively the motion last night uh certainly was an added twist that everybody loves to see um I just think Herz needs to be better if if Herz is better this this offense is going to be really good if Herz look the Eagles fumbled and stumbled and bumbled and fell over themselves last night interceptions and fumbles and scored 34 points against a team that many think was a Super Bowl Contender now I don't know what Jordan Love's diagnosis is going to be but that team many people thought was a Super Bowl di a champion type team and the Eagles went up and down the field on them all night long um other parts about the offense you know does anybody else notice it can't be just me and obviously they're using like a silent count because Makai beckon and they did this all the time last year too he's turned around looking at Jaylen Herz and then he Taps the center and they snap the ball does the defense not pick up on the fact that they can get the snap as soon as he Taps Jurgens I mean what the hell I mean seriously if I can see that on my couch how is somebody on the defense not just staring at beckon when he Taps him and the ball goes I mean come on the offensive line I think could be better I thought the the footing on the field was a problem with that but uh ultimately the penalties in the game last last night was also just just I mean I'm all add right now all over the place but the penalties in the game last night are just a it's a mess it's a mess it's a mess it's a mess uh so offensively the line was okay I thought it was better as the game went on I think the the the the um the Herz needs to be just a better decision maker I mean the decisions he made last night some of the throws he made can't have it you can't have it and be a Super Bowl team that's not a Super Bowl performance by Jaylen Herz last night but they won the game against a good football team I want to go to defense Um Zack bour where the hell did he come from he was all over the place last night now my question might be this are the Saints that bad that they couldn't figure out that they had this guy and didn't know what to do with him or is he not as good as we saw last night can he do this for 17 weeks Zack Bon was everywhere he had 15 tackles 11 solo tackles last night he had two sacks he had a tackle for loss he seemingly was everywhere is he gonna be this guy because if Zack Bon is this level of player that's a that's something that's a find I thought noobe Dean was he was J J Herz on defense ncoe Dean was Jaylen Herz on defense he made some Splash plays the play that he hits you know on the little swing pass out to the flat he makes a play down I mean he made some plays noobe but he is too small to get up there and they ran the ball at him a lot last night um in the second half specifically Josh Jacobs had a big night in the second half of that game um I thought noobe was out of place sometimes and then he had very good instincts very uneven game for noobe last night would you guys agree with that I thought it was a very uneven game for Jaylen Herz and a very uneven game for noobe Dean and you can't have those two guys be up and down the way they were last night those two guys need to be the steady edies those two guys need to be the steady edies of the offense and the defense and I was my buddy was texting me last night about Dean and he says oh I guess White's gonna get his job back and you know I don't know what to think about that it's going to be a topic this week uh you know on the on the show but I thought Dean was uneven um Bryce Huff I texted it tweeted at one point did he even make the flight I did not like the signing of Bryce Huff he did nothing to make me feel better uh I think Bryce Huff is an average player at best um he had a very good Jets defense around him the Eagles have a very good defense around him I was not excited about the signing of Bryce Huff uh last night was a good reason why he got out snapped I think they saw what I saw um I didn't see it with the Jets I saw a flash player not good against the Run Flash Players you don't win with flash man they make highlight plays they get some numbers but you need consistency Bryce Huff no consistency and I saw Zippo from him last night I was watching for zero all night where's Bryce Huff where's Bryce Huff a lot of times he wasn't on the field you know who was number three Nolan Smith didn't do much last night either by the way and and look he was rushing the passer uh his footing was kind of coming out from under him a lot last night I kept seeing him slipping out but Bryce Hoff had absolutely no impact on the game Jaylen Carter played very well Jordan Davis I think even played better than Carter did to be honest with you I thought Jordan Davis had a pretty good game um taking on blockers Josh schat um gave me nothing last night I think he had a quarterback hurry or hit or something uh Josh schweet did not do much for me last night um the pass rush is going to be a problem I I I worried about it all offseason I talked about it on the show let me see what Cole's saying over here hey Cole what's up buddy uh the offense needs to be shotgun base RPO where 90% of the play start with Jaylen making RPO re where he can hand it off run or pass you know Cole um and he says he goes on to say the under Center offense where Herz turns his back to the field is not Herz game I I agree that's not really who he is but again I thought Herz in 2022 on the RPO I thought Herz made the right decision on run pass or keep 95% of the time it seemed like he made the right decision all the time last night and last last year I didn't feel the same way I don't feel he keeps when he should keep I don't think he hands when he should hand I don't think he throws when he should throw and that keeps coming up I don't know if it's because he doesn't want to run and that that's a factor in the game I feel like this hat is crooked on my head is that is it crooked on my head I don't know uh thanks to Charlie's I'll be there Friday I will be at Charlie's this Friday for happy hour Friday so if you're watching and you live in the area stop by charlies's in summers point we're uh doing the show there this Friday and next Friday by the way last two Fridays of Happy Hour Friday for the whole summer been a great uh turnout for this uh Happy Hour Friday thing we've been seeing a lot of fans it's been it's been awesome but um yeah I I feel like Herz needs to make better decisions in the RPO he he needs to be crisper quicker with his decisions I want to go back to the defense though because I'm kind of working my way around I thought Dean was up and down uneven I thought Bon jumped off the page uh yes um Zach was the defensive play of the game where did that come from kirston I don't know there wasn't enough tape on Zack bond to even formulate an opinion to be honest with you very little defensive play from him he just was not a a guy who played a lot of defensive snaps he's been a special teamer I hope he's not like Ang Alex Singleton makes a lot of tackles but this guy doesn't look like Alex Singleton a guy who just you know Singleton was just around the ball making tackles but he was not great in coverage too small B is an athlete this guy is an athlete and he and he can move so I'm I'm interested in more I'm gonna actually watch all 22 of Bon and and get a better feel for what what he did you know throughout the game but I I was blown away by him uh I thought quinan Mitchell was great last night I thought quinan Mitchell was great last night and I say great yeah he got thrown at a couple times the numbers on him um have been just okay not okay they were pretty good the numbers on him were were good um they they threw at him a bunch but I loved his Cockiness they went after him he made a play and he sometimes you're like dude settle down no I want to see a kid from Toledo who people were questioning saying you want to come at me I loved it I thought he was it's one of those moments where you have one chance to make an impression of who I am in this league and it's not like ah you know maybe he could be right off the bat he said I'm here I'm in this league I'm ready to go so I have a lot of confidence that quinan Mitchell can play in this league that that he he's ready um yeah Cole Bon and Mitchell and the D tackles look good yep I we agree on that I said Bon I'm going on Mitchell now and I thought Carter and Davis uh I thought Williams played pretty well last night too uh Bryce Hoff by the way played in 30 snaps of 67 he had one assisted tackle no sack no pressures no quarterback hits at one point of the second half um Todd blackl I was trying to remember who did the game last night Todd blackid says you know haven't heard Huff's name at all last night no you didn't no you didn't Mitchell I thought was very good blanket ship had the big interception in the game um I thought the slot spot struggled madx they picked on him a lot last night that's going to be a flu spot there we'll see what happens with when Isaiah Rogers is back if he goes to the outside and they move Mitchell down does that change stuff there I thought last night that that slot corner with Avante Maddox uh struggled a bit which is unfortunate you know you guys know I'm a West Virginia guy and Maddox went to pit so it's hard for me to give him props but Maddox is generally pretty good but the last two times he's played in the slot he has struggled I wonder if the injuries have just kind of caught up to him and that he's lost a little bit of that uh tenacity as you know he was always like a physical smaller but physical Corner out there um try Gardner Johnson I think adds to the secondary uh he didn't make a the splash play last night uh and that's what he's more for he's there for interceptions and that kind of stuff but um so nothing really distinct about him he left the game with that hand he came back but the blanket ship interception that interception goes to Bon Bon made that play and and good read by blankin ship to come in there but that play was made by Zack Bon so overall you gotta be um you got to be I think feeling pretty good on that field for the offense to score 34 um by the way there's some news about Jordan love he's going to get an MRI when the Packers land an ankle injury has been ruled out and now it's more of a wait and see to see what happens uh this is from our buddy Jeff Kerr from CBS Sports who joins us every week Jaylen Herz when the Packers blitzed last night six of seven 91 yards a touchdown when he got um when when when they Blitz when he was pressured four of 10 108 yards a touchdown uh with two sacks so it was a very again very uneven performance for for Herz last night so what do you guys uh think those are some of the just initial add thoughts you know it's Saturday morning I'm sitting out back on my porch um I'm looking at some of the comments over yeah the lack of pass rush talked about that all offseason I don't know where they're getting pass rush for Cole uh and I was not a big Huff fan so if you signed Bryce huff and hope that he was going to replicate Hassan reic I was not on board with that I was not on board with with that uh with that signing that flip that swap I would have uh and and listen I get the whole reic thing you don't want to sign a guy of that age to a long-term extension so you're kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place but I hope rice Huff proves me to be wrong so far I'm right got new neighbors uh never met them before but I heard something over there that's what uh I was like what the heck's go we haven't had neighbors for like two years not that you guys care about that so uh what else I thought by the way the difference in one of the differences in the game this is going to go a little under uh the the I thought Nick serani managed a better game than uh Matt laflor I mean everybody wonders what serani does but you know serani is pretty good clock manager he doesn't take like needless timeouts generally Matt laflor burned through timeouts last night like they were handing him out um you know Matt laflora I think poor clock management times I think serani is a very you know steady clock manager he he he doesn't the Eagles generally do a good job of that so I just wanted to throw that out because serani gets a lot of it's a lot of heat for stuff what does he do what does he do I have no problem with serani being just a overseer and if you run a good clock I always say all the time I don't know why these teams don't have a mathematician that stands next to them that is like a savant on clock management and let them run the clock why would a head football coach call plays run plays design plays do this do that make decisions and then also run the clock now if that's something that they're very good at you know I have a buddy who's just a math Savant he just very good at math if I was coaching that guy be standing next to me in football B any game that has a clock he's standing next to me telling me when to take timeouts um so what I I think you know that field factored in the game last night and they scored 34 points I think that field factored in the game last night and the defense I thought the defense kept him in the game in the first half by the way right the first half of that game the defense kept them in that game they made a couple stops early that game could have been 14- nothing the turnover it's and it's instead of four 14 nothing it was six nothing so the defense played well early in that game so people get so caught up on same old defense defense stinks look Green Bay is a really good team and that field sucked last night but the defense did a great job early you got to look at those pockets and key moments of the game in key moments of the game the defense kept you in that game so yeah over the long horse you look up at the hall the you look up at the scoreboard and see 29 Points and you're probably not impressed with the defense but I think the defense won them that game early by making those two stops early and making Green bay kick field goals remember that you know we judge Things based on the finality but in the finality there are chapters you know it's like Sopranos are you watching The Sopranos they're starting it over um on HBO at season one two they're they're playing one season every day leading up to this uh like season one and two and three of The Sopranos are really good season four I thought was not so good so it's like the Eagles defense last night early in the game pockets of it really good that helped them win that game last night you're not going to get four straight Good Seasons generally in any TV show and it's hard to get four straight good uh series of Defense in today's NFL so go back to the first quarter of that game and those two early possessions I thought the Eagles defense won them the game you look back up at the scoreboard and you say 34-29 what won them the game the Eagles defense kept them out of the end zone right what else we got um the new kickoff is weird by the way speaking of the new kickoff uh who's the guy who returned the kick for uh Green Bay last night the Eagles kick the ball into the end zone late in the game like 35 seconds 40 seconds whatever it was the Eagles kick the ball in the end zone and the knucklehead takes the ball out of the end zone gets to the 20 if you take a knee no time comes off the clock and you get the ball at the 30 just I know you're trying to break one I get it but you don't break it and now you're 10 yards deeper than you could been and you cost your team seconds on the clock this new kickoff I think should add strategy but it feels like it's not adding it yet and then you know think about this you kick the ball into the end zone Touchback get the ball to 30 the Eagles got a penalty and that was five more yards now you're getting the ball at the 35 yard line to start that's a big difference you know it used to be at the 20 and you had to go 80 yards now you're getting the ball to 25 of uh 35 it's big difference 15 extra yards that's one less first down you need to get on your way to a touchdown it's it's it's a big factor in this new kickoff thing and I don't think it's been kind of perfected yet um trying to think is there anything else else that stands out that I missed is there anything else that stands out that I should discuss um billies won last night 16-2 that game was over in the second inning six nothing I think uh it was um rock real quick while we have you here tomorrow I'm at Ocean stop out there uh ocean casinos every Monday Thursdays I'm at chickies and pets generally at the Tropicana in Atlantic City if you want to stop out there have some lunch say hello uh Friday we'll be at Charlie and Summers point so uh three times we're out on the 99 bottles party that's going to be a bad ER so U final thoughts Eagles win 34-29 I thought the offense has a lot of room for growth uh thought the field played into it Herz needs to be better Barkley's gonna have a monster year Brown Smith awesome games uh uneven performance from the offense and they still scored 34 uneven performance by the defense but I thought the two stops early in the game were the difference think about those two stops early in the game and then ask yourself did the defense play poorly or did the defense play uh step up when they had to and I think it's the latter they stepped up where they had to all right uh Monday we will talk to you and hopefully everybody um has a good weekend all right uh Penn State in the over today is the play see you
