were uh all over the field tonight right here all over the field tonight uh what was your feeling with uh this first game last year man last ride I got to do everything fly around make plays I got to kind of stand with that and what uh your teammate just said talk about from the beginning when the smoke is out there you guys are coming through the smoke it's the first game after going against your teammates to get into this point what has been your mental ride uh for this entire game ST Focus staying motivated finding a way to stay motivated finding a way to keep getting better uh every day you never could be you know what I'm saying perfect at everything Angela over here uh what was coach Smith's message after the game uh definitely got mistakes to clean up but we're happy with the win Angelo right here uh what were the challenges of Defending that offense with a quarterback who could move a little bit like that and the challenges of game one when you guys had some pieces coming in out whether penalty or injures you guys had to play a lot of guys how how that how that for sure uh really keeping everybody ready to go I mean everybody's preparing you know for the same thing so you know never know when you going to be out there so next man up got to be ready to play I saw you and your brother on the same part of the same half of the field a couple snaps what was that experience like for you guys dope I mean high school we played two years together so it just kind of felt like high school again out there telling calls and stuff like that uh late in the game when there was that like like fourth down and Jordan Turner you know was called for targeting and they could have that could have been a game changer right like if if that was upheld what's just kind of going through your mind in that moment and knowing that you guys like need to get that stop and then just kind of living in that uncertainty per we was ready to go back out there and play defense and try to get another stop that was our mindset uh they called a Target in let's go out there play again get it get the stop yeah for both of you guys I mean there were times in previous years where the offense struggled but then the defense couldn't hold strong and you guys lost I mean how what was it like to see you guys hold strong even then when the offense was struggling and continually get stops I mean we talk about response all the time you know when things ain't going our way how we going to respond how we going to go out there and still do what we need to do so I feel like we really emphasized that and that's what we went out there and did uh our feedback on what Jello said um we just had to respond at the end of the day it's football uh we work hard each and every day even in practice even in practice when the game is not going our way in practice we got to respond and I just felt like we fed off each other's energy and just kept elevating as a defense so Chris obviously first game under this new defensive staff you guys get off to a really hot start as a defense what was the feeling on that sideline uh it was just amazing uh just to come out here play with my brothers uh it's the first game uh the fans came out it was loud um the first drive it was great uh coz rosi was calling the the right place put us in the right position and we just had to go out there and execute I wonder if you guys can kind of break down the the challenge that fer presented today um particularly with the late slides how much did that affect the things that you want to do and try to do I think there was one play where after Spencer got thrown out where Dar has kind of just pulled up and just let him go like how does that change a defense when you're uh it definitely pulls you back a little bit you know trying to keep everybody safe trying not to Target uh so yeah it definitely changes it a little bit but you know got to play you know play how you play yeah I feedback uh it's just like we got to play honest at the end of the day and uh play disciplined I feel like he's a great quarterback uh he slides a lot uh we just got to be disciplined and try not to get no targeting calls and stuff like that so uh this one's for Chris so uh first uh series looked like you got a little chippy with uh the tackle for flid Atlantic wamar uh as a for seeing that he was a former uh Florida State transfer was there any uh knowledge behind that uh not necessarily I was just going out there execute a game plan that K rosi gave us and uh I just feel like he knew I was from Florida also so it just get a little bit chippy so it was good good work oh this could be for either of you guys but like when do you guys you know how long do you kind of enjoy this win and when do you kind of mentally start shifting towards preparing for Maryland oh man I had to it 24 hours that's it 24 hours on to the next on to the next Chris I'm wondering what it was what was it like for you to see a lot of different D lineman make plays tonight especially mostly a lot of new guys that we haven't seen before just what you sort of thought about that entire group's performance uh I knew it was going to happen because we practice how we play at the end of the day we practice how we play they make plays in practice uh and it translate over to the game I guess for both of you guys when there when there's so many penalties whatever the variety on the defensive side like how do how how are you guys able to mentally sort of stay locked in the best you could even when those were still coming you know how do you that's the response we were talking about so like we talk about response all the time you know penalty uh whatever happens how you going to respond to it positive negative want it to be positive though just to see uh the safety early like the first points scored in the Jonathan Smith eras by the defense just kind of what was your reaction to that and how much pride do you take in that uh I I would say we take a lot of pride in that uh scoring on defense uh I mean especially with Coach Smith he's just a great coach to play for I mean at the end of the day we just got to go out there execute uh he gave us the game plan earlier in the week he told us it's our game on game day just go out there laser focus and play the game so so Chris you had one and a half sacks and I think two and a half tackles for loss is that what you envisioned with the new defense when it was getting installed when you're working in the spring this type of explosiveness and Angelo can you talk about I know you're out there busy playing defense but did you get a sense for the pass rush and what did you think about those guys but Chris first is this what you envisioned is there more to come in that regard um I just knew it coming into the game uh the quarterback he liked to scramble a lot so I was trying to just eliminate his scrambles as much as I can to help it out in the back end uh give them time to cover a little bit uh get home as fast as I can I'm I'm trying to beat the clock not the quarterback so yeah uh I line great so yeah we we definitely feel the pressure we definitely feel like that boy might not get out and definitely feel good for a DB when you know the our D line up up there hunting so for sure yeah did it feel for both of you guys again I mean did it feel different playing in this kind of Defense I mean and as the game went on did the confidence kind of grow as you saw more and more success I would say yeah cuz back to what I was saying how it's practice we practice how we play even in practice when it's not going our way uh we just got to respond and keep going just keep going each and every down each and every play each and every drive it doesn't matter what happens we just got to keep elevating pick each other up so I'm wondering as as seniors and veterans in this program do do does even on the other side of the ball do you pull Aiden aside and kind of have a talk with him kind of keep his confidence up after a game like this and when you hear a quarterback say the things he said about taking accountability for the offensive problems I guess how do you respond after being around for a while you want to take I say that uh I feel like he's a leader over there on that side of the ball so what he says is you know that's what he going to do he took accountability for it uh that's the type of guy he is and I feel like he going to go in get the corrections execute next next week you feel like the veterans you guys you need do you say something kind of just keep his head up keep elevated yeah for sure for sure keep his head up keep him going he come off to the sideline head down pick your head up you know things like that nature yeah cuz I mean we all we me and jell we done been in this situation before so I mean just tell Aiden like pick your head up we got you we got your back no matter what so at the end of the day we just going to talk to him it's 24-hour rule put this game behind us and move on to the next anything else uh both you guys just real quick I'm wondering the first game with the helmet coms the play coming out know it's wasn't you guys just how clear was that the delivery the communication and how that all work out actually on the field with fans out there and everything it was pretty good I mean with with them having a headphone out there if we miss it from the sideline they can get us right or if they need an extra check we can get the extra check from the headset so I think it's very very useful Chris I want to ask you too Alex vanan is a guy that we saw a lot of tonight haven't seen a lot of to this point in his career just what have you noticed from him in the preseason or whatever it was that got him on the field that often tonight uh he came off a injury um he's just been working his ass off with rehab so I mean seeing him in rehab and knowing his situation and how far he has become and the player that he is it's amazing and I'm just happy for him all right thanks guys appreciate y thank you
