UPDATE: “Potential gunman” threatened to harm Chatt State students if payment not received

State main campus is on lockdown avoid the area until further notice is on campus stay indoors shelter in place and lock your door frightening situation today at Chattanooga State started around 9:45 this morning when police say a caller demanded payment and threatened to harm students if that payment wasn't received I'm David Caren and I'm Latrice Curry Cindy is off today everyone at Chattanooga State was on lockdown for about 3 half hours the first shelter in place text for students came in just before 9:50 this morning and that lockdown was lifted about 3 and a half hours later around 1:10 this afternoon the school then dismissed all classes and closed for the day they will reopen tomorrow our reporters have been covering the situation at Chattanooga State all day Jeremiah batty will report on students who experienced the lockdown and Grayson Gordon has more information on what police know and what the school has shared Grayson joins us live now with that part of the story Grayson lrice David the most important thing to know right now is that campus is safe there is still some confusion that came in with those calls and determining if that was a credible threat or not First Responders say they never heard gunshots saw the suspect or found any victims the campus was put on lockdown less than 10 minutes after the calls came in but there were also several agencies already on the grounds I feel quite confident that there's no um current danger or issue on campus right now and uh we will be ending that piece of uh of of our response and our investigation inter Chief somr says every room of every building was searched before the lockdown was lifted two students were treated for anxiety and one officer treated for heat related illness while rumors of hostages circulated social media cheda police say no hostages were found cheda fire department investigated reports of that gas Lake and it was cleared now cheda police are heading up the investigation so when we get some answers it'll come from them we'll make sure to update you here in chattouga gring Gordon Local 3 news
