let's talk about the Minnesota Vikings and we'll pivot around the NFL uh obviously what happens to JJ McCarthy bummed do bummed out about bummed out about it Kirk Cousins obviously now in Elena Falcons Sam darnold on a $10 million contract you just do Justin Jefferson's contract and put him into a rightfully earned contract that's massive Kevin okono has seemingly been a great coach since he's got the opportunity what are your thoughts on the Vikings and uh how closely are you paying attention to everything right now as we're getting into the season kickoff uh as a total of the NFL not too much just enough to not be an idiot when I talk to you guys sweet we appreciate that and but from the Vikings standpoint I I I like what they were moving you know the JJ McCarthy thing was was sad it's unfortunate I think he has a bright upside especially with Coach uh with Kevin uh Connell just you know I think okon's going to do a great job and quazy and everybody there I really like you know where the Vikings are at from a a leadership standpoint um so you know I think I think Sam darnold's got some I think he's got some upside I think he shows spurts of being able to uh to be the guy people wanted him to uh so hopefully he can pull that together and to be honest you know I I was actually more impressed what the Vikings did up front you know I think they're trying to solidify their line unfortunately we lost Hunter uh denil was one of my one of my favorite pass rushers to watch so that that's sad but um you know I think the new guys the new acquisitions we brought in we're going to be young on the defensive side we're going to be fast we're GNA have a good uh you know good ability to get after the quarterback up front from multiple angles and then from the offensive side I think you know look at him we got we got Hawk we got you know TJ and we got you know Jefferson I think you know being able just just get the ball out of his D runs the play action get the ball out of his hands and let the you know let your Playmakers play so I think we'll be okay like I said it's unfortunate but you know long term it might be the best thing for JJ to be able to sit back and not be feel so pressure especially you know coming in from behind Kurt where we had some playoff years we had some you know missed opportunities um so you know hindsight might be all right and um wish them all the best yeah I guess there's no pressure to put them in week 10 or something like that if Sam's not playing great you you know and he'll get an entire year to kind of it's already been decided you're going to have an entire yeah and you take the pressure off of Sam right he's sitting here in in a so-called quarterback battle with a top 10 pick um it's not really much of a battle I mean we saw it with Christian pner when we took him 12 overall right I mean think McNab had a couple hiccups and it was like we got to put the first rounder and he might not have been ready to go um and so again I think sometimes you know players get put in a position based on their draft pick to no fault of their own to where they're not quite ready and I think it takes a good coach and a good leadership system to to manage that and like I said maybe this one took care of itself and now D Sam doesn't have pressure on him uh he can go out there and perform hopefully at the best of his ability and give us a chance to win you talk about good coach let's talk about B flow on the defensive side he's loved by everybody that he's ever coach except for down in Miami I guess yeah except for down in Miami but on the da that that was a whole that was a whole thing just a week ago but nonetheless everybody plays for him loves playing defense for him they love what his defense brings what does he do you think that you've noticed that's a little bit different than everybody else and how much have defenses changed since you were playing to now oh I don't think the defensive schemes have changed the players have changed right so the coaches have had to adapt to a very specialized uh type of player you know we were we were three four down players you know you had to play The Run you had to play the pass now seems like you know it's kind of like a shift change every now and then borderline hockey sometimes you see these packages come in but um you know what I think what I think Florida is doing is he's aggressive and I love it he's aggressive to a fault I there's probably times where he shouldn't be so aggressive and he's aggressive so I think from that standpoint that always gives you a chance um again you're gonna live or die by it so you might as well go after him all the way and um you know as far as defenses today I think like I said I think some of it's more specialized but you still look like what they're doing in Pittsburgh right Pittsburgh th those dudes are just still they're getting after it um you know Minnesota even last year you saw more traditional stuff with the Neil getting him back with his hands on the ground um you know you got some of these defenses I think Cincinnati does a great job of still using their big guys up front uh get after the quarterback and not so much you know have a specialized system you know I was with uh did did some Consulting with Denver last year and got to see kind of how they used athletes different so I think a lot of times instead of you know gearing it towards a certain you know formation or stuff you kind of gear your defenses to highlight your athletes um you know we had Nick Bonito and Cooper and and and stuff down there and you know I kind of saw how they got to use those guys a little differently so so I think defensive coordinators are are taking a familiar approach that we all kind of know from football but understanding the athletes are totally different what they were eight t 10 15 years ago and so they're planning certain things around to get certain guys guys loose and and you got to try to not expect guys to fit into your mold you kind of got to be able to shift your program to get what's best out of your player Jared you would have been all pro nowadays as well it would have been sweet would have been nice to see you off the ball a little bit more you know those hands put those hands get to work go ahead AJ Jared you said you were salting for the Broncos is that [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music]
