[Music] [Music] well at least uh Bryce Harper was well rested right at least he was uh well rested for you know to go you know oh for four with three strikeouts last night uh boy oh boy welcome to the show everybody my name is Mark farzetta this is a little show we do called the farsy show it's presented by mybookie mybookie.ag it's lovely to have you along for the ride good Lord so Ronaldo Lopez who's been incredible this year it's coming off about three weeks right if not pitching and uh he takes to the hill last night looks like he didn't miss a damn beat 10ks against the Phillies an offense G an offensive game that did not have their starting pitchers back in the least and you had six Innings of two-run baseball with eight strikeouts from Zack Wheeler and your offense could barely muster a run your offense got five hits in the game last night again a very well-rested Bryce har you know JT Ruto was well rested as well he at least drove in the Philly's only you know run of the game and Time After Time Kyle schwarber looked lost at the plate i' I've never seen him look that lost never I mean I've seen a bat at bat I've seen where he's just guessed wrong a number of times and wanted bat I don't think I've ever seen a Kyle schwarber uh and the stats backing up with four strikeouts I don't think ever seen a Kyle schwarber game where he swung at that many pitches that Keen Eye that Kyle schwarber has I don't think I've ever seen him flail away at pitches the way he did last night against Ronaldo Lopez striking out four times in total three times against uh Lopez uh Harper was terrible the only thing I could say that's at all positive is it his lasted bat if he was knocking off any rust which G don't even give me that excuse uh he at least hit the ball on the on the screws and that lasted bat Trey Turner also took the offer but uh he had the good graces about him to not even strike out at least in his abs last night uh and I actually heard after the game My Man Ricky balico who I love he's a friend of mine I love my time with Ricky Bo I really do I heard him reference Johan Roa stepping up to the plate with runers and scoring position what have we said throughout this entire season what do we even say in Spring going back to Spring trading about Johan roas if we're talking about Johan Roos not doing well in the Phillies lineup in this particular instance Johan roas not hitting with runners in scoring position what do we talk about even in spring training if we're talking about Johan ros' offensive struggles we got bigger problems and last night was the perfect example of that you're one through three hitters go over for 12 with seven K so as much as I I I like yoan Roos as much as I like what Yohan roas has done especially since the All-Star break I'm uh really over the last three weeks as well I I can't look at Johan roas and be like d be better Johan Roos when a well-rested Kyle schwarber a NL player of the week in Trey Turner and a guy that looked like he was at least starting put it together in Kyle schwarber at the top of the order there being terrible at baseball I can't take my focus off the top three guys to the lineup and oh my God Rob Thompson it I thought Rob Thompson if you saw me say this on social media heard me said on the PO postcast last night I apologize but I got to give it to you again Rob Thompson last night did he give himself the night off was he giving himself a night of rest I mean he's just doing out uh days of rest like crazy I I thought he was like taking a snooze on a cut in the back in the clubhouse when uh Jose Alvarado was just continuously being like would you like to be on base here you go would you like to be on base here you go would you like to be on base this is Series against the Braves where you're really looking to put a considerable amount of space between 's and them and you drop look I understand it's game one you got six more games the next couple weeks here against the Braves you got time I blah blah blah blah blah but last night was an opportunity with Zack Wheeler on the hill for the offense just to do a little bit a little bit and we'll go through it we'll go through the whole thing unfortunately but we'll go through it they had their opportunities and they failed to cash in I thought they actually for the most part oh they're making Ronaldo Lopez actually throw a lot of pitches up there and I thought oh he's not even gonna make it out of the fourth inning you got you five innings you got you 10 strikeouts for the Braves you know what tip your cap you were better you were much better than the Phillies last night Phillies just had to go out there get themselves a couple runs three runs four runs we're talking about a totally different game they couldn't do it they couldn't do it uh so we'll go through the game of course uh we'll get through a training camp practice that by all accounts uh Jaylen Herz just continues to get better I I feel like we've we've read four or five different headlines already or at least read four or five different stories about how Jaylen Herz had the best day at Camp it was like last week it was this week it's a week before or two weeks before it was three weeks before like he's on fire the man is absolutely on fire and I keep on saying you know for the people that just want to push it aside and say oh W it's a big deal it's camp for those people again let's think about the alternative here the the alternative and quite frankly not at all it wouldn't be at all surprising storyline going throughout the last couple of weeks here of training camp the other story in the alternate universe could very well very easily be Jaylen Herz isn't grasping Kell Moore wants to do Jaylen Hertz Squan Barkley down to the same page H take it away from Jaylen Herz for a second cam jur is not understanding what the offense wants to do like this could be so terrible this could be awful Jaylen Herz definitely needs another year in the offense of Kell Moore to really understand what's going on you know it's not going that it's I got it it's he's got it it's oh look he's got it over there that's amazing how great he's doing you if Jaylen Herz going through a practice you if Jaylen I guess lowering the bar eight weeks ago uh when he talked about 95% different and so far no interceptions in training camp uh so far just headline after headline report after report after how great he has been at practice and yesterday if you didn't see the viral clip of Jaylen Herz airon and out downfield to AJ Brown who bet beat quen Yan Mitchell it was a thing of beauty pass a little wobbly little wobbly that's nitpicking uh he's just been incredible if you didn't see that it's it's wild it's worth the view it's absolutely worth the click to go back and find that on social media uh but uh it just I really do want to take time to appreciate how well this is going the uh one of the bigger questions in training camp uh in general nothing to do with the offense although my question Still Remains regarding cam Jurgens and and Jaylen Herz and K Moore and just seeing them in a game and we're not going to know until Brazil but one of the biggest questions in Camp is where is Bryce Huff how is Bryce Huff doing is Bryce Huff not doing well those are three questions but they all revolve around the same person and that's Bryce huff and in preseason game number two Vic fangio saw it fit that Bryce Huff goes out there and he starts that football game Bryce Huff in the time that he was out there he made plays he looked really good wanted a passing situation wanted running situation and to see him go up there and show some versatility allbe it yeah blah blah blah blah blah in the preseason he still did it against a veteran quarterback in jacobe Prett so I'm not holding it against him at all in terms of the passing play reading that play and making something happen on that where he made the play um but I i' love see it was a nice thing to see it's a good thing to see because again the alternative is he goes out there he looks completely lost it works both ways works for the offense works for the defense works with guys that are in a system that they they been in him before so I I listened to Bryce hop yesterday I went back and I watched him address the media and he talked all about how yeah a lot of this is new some of it he's gotten his feet wet in it before in his career with the Jets but not to this degree obviously and it all has to do with a Player working himself up to be a 70% snap guy and not a 40% snap guy on defense and he did back up the idea of this is a new position for me so uh yeah I'm going to go ahead and make sure that I cross all my te's DOT my eyes and lowercase Jays as I go out there and learn not only a new scheme but a Vic fangio scheme coming off essentially being his my words not his a one trick pony so we'll let you hear from Bryce huff about the first minute of his press conference yesterday he I really like his efficiency in answering questions he's really good at that for something has nothing to do in the football field if I could applaud a player for something else is really efficient the the words per meaning ratio is great I absolutely enjoy it so get the Bry off conversation as well uh Kell Moore addressed the media yesterday didn't really show a lot of cards in any regard as far as anything it's all looking good Tyler Steen versus uh McKai beckon oh it's really good anytime he was asked about whether it was the third wide receiver anytime it was asked about the right guard position he was just same same thing yes you know we got a great position we're in a good spot we're in a good position we're in a great spot these guys are battling out we're lucky for these guys to be battling out this is good there's a fight going on because two guys want to be starters okay all right fine uh and then also talked about just the overall communication with this quarterback room with uh uh Jaylen Herz obviously and uh how everybody's helping everybody in that room doesn't that sound lovely I know there's been a lot made of potentially Kellen Moore and Vic fangio getting on the same page meeting before practice talk about hey uh my defense kind of needs to see this can you show this uh or hey my offense needs to see this can you show that uh apparently that's not really going on according to Kell Moore and Vic fangio nearly as much and one of the things I did find a little interesting from Kell Moore yesterday was the idea that the when he talks to Vic fangio um they might hey we want to see one more of this that might happen it's rare but according to Kell and Moore they do so much now at training camp which is something that I'm not used to hearing I'm used to hearing like oh were the Eagles even practicing today what were they out there for 15 seconds you know uh they get so many reps in they get so much practice in and they had the mini camp they had the extra sessions uh weeks ago a month and a half ago uh they had all that that they they are getting exposed to a lot they had the joint practice with the New England Patriots they already have two preseason games under their belt uh so all that goes into the idea that these guys are seeing a lot more reps than usual uh and even cam Jurgens when he was addressing the media yesterday talked about how we're things are a lot more intense now against the defense and he said that what's really different is that you're seeing the defense and noticing how they're really disguising things different that's not something you really heard talked about over the last especially the last year under Shawn Desai and we always what happens a lot is and players are incredibly hip to this now whenever asked to compare they always they understand that whatever they say like for instance this is a perfect example yesterday cam Jurgens when he's asked about going up against the Vic fangio defense he said oh this is this is a lot different than what we saw last year in terms of how well the defense is disguising their games when they come up to the line of scrimmage we don't know what they're doing like in the past and I'm like say what now I mean do we need Shawn Desai or Matt Patricia thrown under the proverbial metaphorical bus any more than we've already had no we kind of understand that that was all a dumpster fire last year so it's not like we need proof in that pudding but if it helps you take a breath of fresh air about what the defense is going to present this year and how much better it's going to be ah that certainly makes me feel a little bit better where you've gone up against it now in mini camp in training Camp you've gone up against it this many times and you still don't know like oh wait hold on what are they doing here te what's going on here that's a great thing but when players are asked to compare about things before that always means in the back of their minds and a lot of players understand this in the back of their minds whatever I say is different now that means the previous group sucked at it the previous group of coaches the scheme whatever it was they sucked at it if I say we're doing this now that means in the last coach it could easily be R they didn't do it at all like sha desde predictable with that defense so a lot of times they'll just kind of tiptoe around it and be like well I don't know about last year Jaylen Herz did this in the previous press conference uh uh at the um referenc in a bunch at the before the open practice at linkoln Financial Field he's referenced it many times where he talked about well I don't know about last year but this year I'm just doing what I'm trying to be Co I'm doing what I'm coached to do you know that kind of thing cam Jurgens did the same thing yesterday but it came off a lot better in terms of of how much better the defense looks than a year ago uh so we get into that conversation like I said we'll let you hear from Bryce up uh Jaylen Carter I'm sorry U Jordan Davis addressed the media yesterday also I don't push aside leadership and I don't push aside the presence of Brandon Graham in that locker room I think if we're all being honest with ourselves I think most people realize that Brandon Graham is this year an onfield coach if Brandon Graham playing 38% of the snaps last year I'm not expecting a lot from Brandon Graham I love Brandon gah love everything he represents to the Philadelphia Eagles franchise to the city of Philadelphia and everything he represents to the to the new players in the locker room the young players in the locker room you don't have to be a rookie to appreciate this you could be a young player as well Jordan Davis talked about yesterday how Brandon Graham is just not a shocker always talking but not just in a way that is Brandon Graham and his wonderful uh um optimistic and positive personality but in a way where he's coaching and he is looking at it as without question not only is it the the nice Victory lap or the farewell tour or anything like that but he is emptying every ounce of knowledge that he has from his playing career into that defensive line and into that defense jayen Jordan Davis was talking about it yesterday how he just sits next to BG and BG just goes and every little morsel of knowledge and experience that he could try to just dump out of his very experienced brain and his career that he's had extreme highs and extreme lows in and he has just continued to try to coach up some of these younger guys and Jordan Davis is just right there next to him absorbing everything like a sponge and try to be a good pupil to the veteran Brandon Graham I that is not lost on me that's not just some cute story that's not just some Rah R High School hairy stuff that is that is going to pay dividends as the career of Jordan Davis goes on and as Jordan Davis gets better and better throughout his throughout his career as Jaylen Carter gets better throughout his career as Bryce Huff even gets better throughout his career Brandon Graham little morsels little nuggets of knowledge being dropped right now are going to continue to pay dividends for this Philadelphia Eagles defense and the young players uh that are growing their careers here so we'll get into all that as the show goes on today but once again welcome in this is the farsy show presented by my bookie make sure you hit like And subscribe on the farsy show YouTube channel make sure you hit like And subscribe on the Jacob media YouTube channel and make sure you hit like And subscribe on the lock on Sports Philadelphia YouTube channel where yours truly brings you your philes postcast after each and every game uh let's get into it here I I do three big things on the postcast every night uh last night there was a couple of more uh because I actually tipped my cap I don't usually do that but Ral when Ronaldo Lopez makes Kyle schwarber look as terrible as Kyle schwarber looked last night you realize that's a pretty good job by him uh watching Ronaldo Lopez go up against Kyle schwarber first inning strikes him out on a slider I don't think that slider was ever in the strike zone KY schwar flailed away at it then faced him again in the third inning 22 curveball away never in the strike zone I don't know what sort of sorcery Ronaldo Lopez had going on for himself last night but Kyle schwarber looked like he was absolutely hypnotized Tut two curveball away flails away at it Kyle schwarber then he goes up faces him one more time in the fifth inning getss him on a slider low and away Kyle schwarber flows away at it top of the fifth inning Lopez went out there at 79 pitches I did not expect him to get to 85 pitches but he pitched through the seven or excuse me pitched through the fifth inning uh and was just fine and dandy including a strike out on three pitches with a change up to Bryce Harper uh but then later in the game Kyle schwarer came up in the eighth inning again this time against Jimenez and struck out again four strikeouts Kyle schwarber credit to the Braves pitching credit to Ronaldo Lopez I don't know what was going on with Kyle schwarber I have never seen him look that lost he reminded me last night and I don't I didn't think I'd ever make this comparison he reminded me of how often we criticized Nick castanos for flailing away at those outside pitches that's what schwarb looked like last night it wasn't pretty uh but tip my cap 10 strikeouts from Ronaldo Lopez that means he's doing something right and it's first starting with three weeks yeah he's he was pretty locked in and you did get the the the pitching matchup that you wanted you had wheeler against Lopez and your offense gave you nothing um so as the game went on this should not have bothered me as much as it did because I already I already felt like the game was over it felt like a one-run lead and at the time then soon to be a two-run lead it felt like it was 10 runs it just felt with the way the offense had been performing in the game it felt like this offense uh a 10-run lead was insurmountable so in the eighth inning Jose Alvarado gets the ball not that much of a surprise Rob Thompson with the Phillies down 2-1 gives the ball to Jose Alvarado Al Alvarado faces Marcel Zuna who already hit a home run his 37th home run of the Season earlier in the ball game and a nine pitch at bat in the first three pitches Alvarado was up one two he loses him in a nine pitch at bat Ozuna fou away three pitches struggled uh nine pitches in total and he walks him so the lead off man's on Olson grounds into the fielders Choice six4 put out so you at least have one out on that little humpback liner then Murphy uh strikes out on a cutter you're thinking all right we're good we're locked in here one more out to go let's party Solair pinches for Kellick he walks Aria walks you get the bases loaded trying to get yourself out of this to me you already know that Alvarado has lost his arm slot that there's no way he should be pitching with the bases loaded now you could argue well you're gonna just dump that off into somebody else what's that whether that would be Jeff Hoffman or um um Lazar coming into the game Who eventually did but Rob Thompson and this is what drives me crazy I felt like at the time that the B were loaded there was no getting out of it I felt like at the time that the bases were loaded you were cooked no matter what happened next nobody else was GNA come in and just slam the door uh that's that's that was the vibe I had but I still felt that Rob Thompson at that point with the bases loaded you can't let Alvarado in a one run game one run game where your offense is getting you nothing can't risk the idea of all right I can't make this a two-run game I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure this isn't a two-run game you can't risk that because in the bottom of the me in the top of the ninth inning you never know who could just let one rip into the stands and tie that ball game but instead of doing everything he could to protect that lead or really protect that deficit keeping it only at one run Rob Thompson somehow despite everyone in Atlanta and every Philadelphia phili fan throughout the world knowing Jose Alvarado was cooked at that point point he lets him pitch and he walks uro to walk in a run with the bases loaded and the Phillies go from a 2-1 lead or two1 deficit to a three- R deficit this shouldn't bother me as much as it does but the fact that Rob Thompson was negligent in not putting Bryce Harper at the plate yeah it carries over for me in that final game against the Nationals what is Rob Thompson doing and one of the things Rob Thompson is supposed to be phenomenal unquestionably phenomenal at is having his fingers on the pulse in the clubhouse and really understanding his players and having a six sense about his players having that great Instinct managerial Instinct and he doesn't bat Harper in that situation and he doesn't pull Alvarado before he had a chance to walk in another run no thanks I feel like he's out the lunch I we talk about it with players all the time it's a long season it's wear and tear on the body I feel like we're experiencing wear and tear right now of Rob Thompson's brain that's what I feel like and watching the game last night watching Alvarado go out there and face one more batter everyone knew he's cooked get him out of there didn't do it until he went to Lazar after he walked in a run Lazar gets marfield to strike out looking on a fast ball on a four pitch at betat I like Lazar in that situation pitching with the bases loaded than more so than I do Jose Alvarado and I think we all agree at this point that that's exactly what should have happened but but it didn't uh I hate that that I'm even pissed about that because what I'm pissed about most above all is the lineup uh but Rob Thompson Jose Alvarado that was terrible uh and then the lineup was just embarrassing last night and here's what really grinded my gears uh in last night's game uh second inning B leads off with a single 36 game on Bas streak right now for Alec bow casianos grounds in the fielders choice but you got the leadoff runner on now you have a runner on first no with one out St steps up he gets a single first and second one out juto next man up again first and second with one out runner and scoring position Ronaldo Lopez struggling a little bit real Muto goes up there Works a Full Count strikes out on a slider three straight sliders and real Muto and again I'm not going to harp on him too much because he actually drove in a run but in this particular Bat gets a 3-2 slider it was the third consecutive slider that he got in that at bat the third one that he saw was bounced in the dirt and real mut so I I guess figured he's not going to give me a third straight slider and a 3-2 count he's going to give me the meatball he's gonna give me a 97 mile power fast ball over the middle of the plate and I'm gonna tattoo it he didn't he geared up for a fast ball got the slider in the dirt and that was all she wrote for real Muto in the second inning so now runner on first and second two outs Brandon Marsh Brandon Mars got up in the count and for whatever reason after ripping a 31 3-1 fast ball against the Nationals and help the philes come back he gets timid in this game he has two separate account two separate counts where he's up 3-1 and he does not get aggressive and I for the life of me I I don't get it and that's the way it went uh but in this particular instance he worked a walk and a seven pitching bat then roas struck out there with the bases loaded uh and two outs uh on a four- pitch at bat all fast Balls by the way just got beat uh third inning the Braves get their first run of the game Maryfield of course of all people you didn't think we're gonna get through the series and like Whit marfield like you knew Whit marfield was gonna do something last night right he had a triple and a double and he scored a run so it was a one- nothing ball game after the third inning on that Harris RBI single then in the fourth inning the filliers actually break through a little bit B leads off with another single this one a chopper off the uh off off home plate then casianos gets a single you got first and second with nobody out stot strikes out on a change up real Muto delivers on an 02 fast ball down to the count 02 he delivers there with the RBI single it's a tie ball game 1-1 Philly's come right back to tie it up now you got first and second with one out Brandon Marsh looks at a fast ball on a three-oh count again Brandon Marsh not being aggressive then he takes three fast balls swings at all of them excuse me uh took a fast ball right down the middle of the plate didn't swing at it and then he ends end up going up there uh and striking out uh Roos then grounds out to short to end it he was down he was up in the he was down in the count 02 worked it back to a 3-2 count and grounded out to uh short that's how that one eded but at least you got the run you tied things up uh from the fourth inning on you remember that JT Ruto RBI single I mentioned yeah that was the last time the Phillies had a base runner that would be the last time a Philly was on base in last night's ball game as the game went on Marcel Ozuna just just I mean I talk about talk about tattooing a baseball 300 and excuse me 432 feet dead center field one of the things I actually laughed at and out of appreciation Johan roas climbed the wall Johan roas climbed the wall on a ball that was 32 feet Beyond it like that's not close but that Al that also shows great intent to not show up your starting picture Zach wheeler wheer let we talk about meatballs that was the as I've mentioned before that was the the meatball with parmesan Rano already sprinkled over top of it that's how much of a meatball that was and ozena hit his 37th home run of the year made it a 2-1 game and then the Phillies as I've mentioned terrible not a base runner not a base runner after the fourth inning Philadelphia Philly is right now in Major League Baseball here are the standings the Dodgers are the best team in baseball 75 and 52 they are one game up on the Guardians the Phillies the Brewers the Orioles with the New York Yankees who despite all the history that they're poting this season uh lost last night actually uh they're a game and a half behind everybody else the Padre's three back Diamondbacks four back Twins and Royals four and a half and the Astros six back of the best record in baseball the Braves seven back overall the Dodgers six in back of the Phillies right now in the National League and the National League East that game was awful and yeah I I do feel bad for Zack Wheeler who again six to two ex me six Innings two two runs eight strikeouts in last night's game wasted squandered that start from your number one guy no excuses uh no excuses today Aaron noo go against Max freed Phillies have done well against Max freed this year H not in a good space 720 start time again tonight for the Phils hey okay so Bryce Harper shakes the rust off and then goes what three for four tonight with two home runs right that's what happens please uh it's very frustrating uh let's get back to your Eagles because I don't want to talk about the Phillies anymore um so Bryce Huff as I mentioned earlier has been a big conversation Point uh for your Eagles and he is had some struggles I've referenced many times that Vic Fango has talked about Bryce Huff a three-year $ 52 million player as if he is some undrafted rookie trying to make his way in the league uh but they put a lot on Bryce Hoff's plate and he expected uh one thing Mike silski actually asked him yesterday the inquire was you went into the offseason knowing that you're probably going to end up somewhere other than New York and even if you did end up staying in New York you're going to be asked to do more like you have a 10 sack season people like all right what more can you do so the Eagles are in a situation right now where Bryce Hoff needs to do more than he's ever done in his entire career so Bryce off was asked a couple of questions yesterday about how he's coming along here's the first 60 seconds of his press conference yesterday how you feel your stop the run and defense I feel like I'm doing uh feel feeling pretty good about it did you feel like those preseason reps help you out a little bit yes sir definitely I feel like just helped me get uh the full speed reps and full game reps so I feel like it helped to get bit Vic said you were learning a new position I guess so that's why he wants to get you in there I mean what what are you doing differently uh yeah there's a lot there's a lot of different things in comparison to what I did in uh New York just cuz like in New York it was like a a fullon attack front versus in this in this defense we're dropping a little more we have to see have a uh a broader vision and take in more pre- snap so uh just just seeing those motions and and pre- snap indicators in the in the game as well as like right after the snaps know how to react to certain things it's uh it's been a u a cool transition how tough is that to drop into coverage what I mean that's probably something a little bit new for you I mean how I I've done it in the past so it was just really just getting my eyes back to where they need to be and and uh feeling comfortable in it so it's been a it's been a good uh experience dropping the coverage going into free now one of the things that jumped into mind as far as drop back back in the coverage was a theory which look this could be one factor but overall the factor is the factor is that Hassan reck wanted a new deal the Eagles didn't want to give him a new deal thean reic still wants a new deal now he wants to trade from the Jets after already being traded in the off season so that's what you call a dumpster fire all right uh but if you remember last year Hassan reik did not want to jop back into coverage ever we didn't want him to drop back into coverage the guy still plays 70% of the snaps and he's going after the quarterback and he's trying to stop the run too like that's pretty good I will take that him dropping back coverage not cool in the first game I believe it was under yeah under Matt Patricia or second game excuse me from Matt Patricia he was Dro back in coverage seven times more than he ever had as a Philadelphia Eagle and you know when he was being questioned his locker you could see it on his face he's a terrible poker player I betan reic he was none too pleased about being dropped back and covered seven times so this could be another reason other than the contract still the contract I would say would about be about 90% of the reason maybe 10% percent as he had no interest in playing in a Vic fangio defense and Vic fangio knew he had no interest in playing in a Vic fangio defense so they moved on they made sure of it and maybe if Vic fangio like to sound reic maybe the Eagles give him a new deal I don't know uh but that's just a possibility it's a theory we could talk about but when it comes to Bryce Huff he is being asked to increase his workload substantially and my big thing when the Eagles brought him in was is he ready for this great promotion he's saying all the right things to see him go out there against the New England Patriots and in the second preseason game actually get a little bit of run I'm double-checking the amount of uh snaps that he actually had in that game because I know it wasn't many um what in the hell's bails yeah it was 10 snaps 18% of the snaps uh is great I want to see him get that experience I have no issue with him getting that experience I have no issue with him going out there and getting the work in at maybe not a new position cuz he's still an edge rusher but being asked to be a little bit more of a linebacker than just an edge rusher yeah that should be different I wouldn't call it a new position but when he goes out there and he's getting as much experience as he can and trying to not only just uh get better at doing different things the only way he can do that is by repetition but also getting into game shape for a guy that's going to be out there for almost double the amount of snap time than he or snaps than he was out there before so all this I think is a great idea by Vic fangio to watch this guy first off not just give him the keys by talking about how great he is but talk about how much hard work it's going to be for got to up his workload that much and not just be out there but actually be productive while he's out there I mean it's one thing to get that money that that many snaps and that much of a snap increase from one year to another but it's also to actually be productive while you're out there to just J ify why you're going to be out there and justify the promotion the Philadelphia Eagles are giving you with the amount of uh responsibility that is being asked of you so for me watching Bryce Huff uh progress has been a good thing listening to him yesterday all encouraging things he understands there's still a lot more work to be done before the Eagles kickoff in Brazil uh listen to Vic vanio talk about him he continu to talk about two people one one person I definitely believe that he's not going out of the way to give praise to is Bryce Huff another person I do think where he's been talking about the same thing in terms of workload and how difficult it is to increase responsibility is James Bradberry and whatever he says it's nice about James Bradberry outside of he works hard I don't believe him one guy I feel like he's being very genuine with that's Bryce Huff another guy not so much and that's James Bradbery uh but all in all from what I saw in New England you didn't see too much of that with the Jets you haven't seen too much of that at all even in the first preseason game against the Ravens but to see him go out there for 10 snaps see him to be productive on uh the first two of them in the way that he was in that first series at least sets tone for what you could be seeing as the season goes on I still think when the season starts you're going to be having a guy in Bryce Huff that's still going to be looking like he's getting his feet wet in some other situations but his bread and butter is going to continue with be getting after the quarterback and I think Vic fangio knows that and one last thing on this defense whether it was Jordan Davis or Bryce Huff or even Devin white the other day and Nico Dean got into it as well Vic fangio defense blitzing a lot I was not expecting that I think it was from Jeff play yesterday that asked the question I'm sorry we a Vic fangio defense a Vic fangio like specifically Vic fangio blitzes I was like that's not supposed to be a thing but if you watch the preseason and you follow training camp apparently it's a thing uh and the other day when Vic F addressed the media and he talked about how uh this is a team this is a defense that is going to Blitz when they feel like they should Blitz not when they feel like they have to Blitz I feel like that's a a good I'm not against that and then sprinkled in between or when you're defensive line your Jaylen Carters or your Jordan Davis's they're actually getting that pressure on their own without the blitz all right all right uh I'll certainly take that did he write about yesterday uh he did not write about yesterday he just asked about okay all right uh so that's what I got for you on your Philadelphia Eagles as far as the defense goes everything everything right now as far as the uh offensive line goes uh we talked about a little bit yesterday mikai beckon uh was back everything came back negative was back practicing yesterday uh Tyler Steen still missing time uh Brett Toth uh to excuse me um was in the backup roll to the Right Guard spot one of the big guys that has come out this year is uh Trevor Keegan he is on a hell of a job on this Eagles offensive line getting pretty much all the Reps uh at the tackle position for the Eagles on the right side for Blane Johnson uh I'm loving what I'm seeing from him he has been fantastic um what am I thinking of I don't know escaping me uh Keegan also uh at left guard but he's been bounced around a little bit um yeah Cooper de jeene continues to come along long long way to go and the last notes uh was Isaiah Rogers and key Ringo according to Jeff mlan getting snaps on the outside both base and nickel with Mitchell in the slot um it's all that's uh pretty much coming together as previously reported so looking at Camp yesterday the Highlight was Jaylen Herz the viral clip was Herz thrown to AJ Brown and I watched that and yes I did notice it was quenan Mitchell in coverage so I guess that wasn't a trash route ah um but plays like that saquan Barkley if you haven't seen it the Eagles released footage from the open practice of saquon Barkley juking guys left and right and they you saw that look from David uh Devonte Smith uh to AJ Brown if you haven't seen it it's it's worth the view it's again worth the click of Devonte Smith just like that guy's on our team now and as your brown being like oh we're g we're gonna be a problem we're GNA be a problem for people uh hey let me tell you about the game time app download the game time app to your phone create an account use promo code farsy and get $20 morning same PHS this is ridiculous it certainly feels like it's ridiculous one thing I will say Sean as far as same Phils I again I I can't get over Kyle schwarber looking so lost at the play last night I don't know if ronal Lopez was just a magician out there last night but he had Kyle schwarber cork screwing into the ground trying to find out where that pitch was coming from James Alexander good morning uh 0 for2 our one through three hitters ibh good morning Sean K what's going on Phillies have lost 14 to 21 games on the rowed we got to get together o Hutch you might not be wrong this team isn't doing anything in this playoffs this manager is just going to keep this team back why is it when players leave here they hit and can pitch again Whit can hit Dominguez can pitch Dominguez just got walked off against the Mets two nights ago Dominguez has been good overall but he just got walked off Whit marfield sucks all right it was a fluke that he got uh triple and a double last night I'm not expecting Whit Maryfield to be the next Rod baras you know I mean Sean gby what's going on damn it's cold out like the fils unfortunately it was a little Breezy last night yesterday all throughout the day I did turn off the air conditioning though that was nice open the windows air the house out a little bit by the way uh Litt toots uh she went to bed last night and did not wake us up throughout the night with this with being ill so that's good um so she hopefully is on the on the other side of it now but yeah all day manof all day I didn't want to take her outside because it was a little chilly know I mean don't want to catch a chill while she's already thrown up April what's going on April Hutch this team can't beat anyone good other than the Dodgers this team is super frustrating it's all because of Rob Thompson you can understand why he's been a bench coach his whole career uh yeah I guess um but here's the deal as he's been disappointed Rob Thompson been disappointing I will say I find it odd that in the game four against the Dodgers before this road trip like I wouldn't put it past Bryce Harper to go up to Rob Thompson be like I want the bat here now I'm not putting this on Harper because it has to be the manager to say you you in for it you want it you feel like you can do it uh or hey go grab a bat you know like but Rob Thompson's got nothing to do with Kyle schwarber and his awful performance last night I mean let's call it what it is just in that isolated incident it was terrible um but he's got a lot to do with Bryce Harper getting that hack against the Nationals overall the the top players got to perform and when we read the quotes from you guys from uh Todd zi yesterday uh with um um John Middleton he said this this is why you go and you sign a Zack whe this is why you go and sign a Bryce Harper like when your name gets mentioned by the big boss that means it's time to get it going Zack Wheeler Rose to the occasion six Innings two runs I'll take that uh Bryce Harper 0 for four three KS Kyle schwarber 0 for four fourks I won't take that uh shanpie last year's Eagles defense gave me multiple near heart attacks so glad for an actual coordinator yeah you got to be excited for I really am I am excited for Vic fangio I'm excited for this era of defense and last year was so terrible and I said this even going into the off season like I don't want to look at the um Phillies coordinator position and be like well you couldn't do worse like I don't want that to be the Saving Grace well you couldn't be worse it could always be worse you could always be better you could always be worse um but listening to the way this has come together so far following along the way players are talking about this they love the old school mentality of Vic fangio and that's something that we know rubbed a lot of players the wrong way in Miami and we also know that listening to these players talking about it they're digesting it rather quickly and the communication has been pretty damn key decoy gaming what's going on Far hey what's going on with you Greg vs marfield gave me H 100 Pence night mares last night o wow I guess Hunter Pence would be a more recent reference than Rod bahas what's Rod bras gotta be is bras gotta be like 06 hold on let me see how old that reference is because I remember he came back with the blue jays and uh beat up on the field is pretty pretty pretty good now I'm going to say' 06 07 Samsonite that was way off 48 games with the Phils in ' 07 came back to Philly with the Blue Jays in an inly game of course in' 08 and put the' 08 Phillies over his knee yeah Greg Benson what's going on April how's L feel I think better I don't want to J I don't want to I don't want to jinx anything you know what I mean but hopefully beta beta James Alexander how many snaps did Jeremiah trod Jr get played 24 snaps 43% of the snaps against the Patriots there you go uh James hopefully uh we should have more touchdown passes and less interceptions I would like that as [Laughter] well uh let's see here decoy gaming when's J gonna to the 10 spot keep missing the start of the show oh you're not missing the start of the show I'm missing the start of the show ah yeah I don't we'll get back on track I promise um yeah show starts supposed to start at 6 lately it's been like 6:30 I say lately I mean like over the last couple months it's always something always something in the morning uh April wasn't counting on a rod baras reference this morning that's why you tune in folks for Rod baras references all right uh let's get to the morning Rush brought you by Sky Motorcars Sky motorcars.com showed you the standings already uh but let's hit him again so you know what the Phillies are up against for today and tonight when they get into their 7 20 start time against the Braves hoping to get back on track and you know do some winning again with regularity always looking to uh climb up there with the Dodgers jump ahead of the Guardians jump ahead of the Brew Crew again before they face them in the not too distant future continued tough stretch here for your Philadelphia Phillies as for what's going on tonight Phillies take on the Braves in game two of this three- game series Phillies look to avoid another three game losing streak feels like they've had way too many of those lately uh the 720 start time will be headlined by Aaron Nola taking on Max freed Nola has actually done a fine job against the Braves he is uh he's 11 and six so far in the season with a 345 ER coming off what we hope is a getright start against the Washington Nationals where went six and two thirs allowing just seven hits no runs and walked two uh throughout the season he's had two starts against the Atlanta Braves most recently on the 5th of May it was his 10th win of the Season he went six Innings allowing three runs he did give up two long balls on five hits previous to that he went up against the Braves in the second series of the Season went four and four and a third and got tattooed two home runs in that one six earn runs on seven hits or excuse me seven runs six of them earned on 11 hits against the Braves in his first start of the year as for fre I believe he's gone up against Nola both times yeah that's right his first start he lasted just twoth thirds of an inning and that was that uh March 30th game he allowed three runs three walks two hits in that one and then more recently uh when he went up against Nola again on the 5th of July he ran into some trouble as well and the Phillies were able to get to him in that one again that was an 86 Phillies win back on the 5ifth of July uh Max freed in that start did not farewell as well uh in that one he went uh six Innings allowing five runs all of them earned and 11 hits that the way that one went yeah that one was not good uh Phillies were able to jump on him in the third inning that's when they really got to him uh so that's what the Phillies got going on tonight 720 star time yet again Philly's trying to get back in the win column after two straight losses thanks for watching thanks for listening oh wait one
