Donald Trump and kamla Harris have faced each other on the debate stage for the first and possibly last time while Trump was often on defense he did drive the core message of his campaign that inflation and immigration are hammering Americans Trump while measured early on grew more annoyed as the night went on Harris effectively controlled much of the conversation with Jabs baiting Trump into responses that were at times imag it in Springfield they're eating the dogs the people that came in they're eating the cats they're eating they're eating the pets of the people that live there officials have said they've seen no evidence of the claims Trump and his allies are using to Fan racist stereotypes about black and brown immigrants Harris baited Trump with Jabs at his Economic Policy his refusal to concede his 2020 election loss and even his performance at his rallies Donald Trump was fired by 81 million people so let's be clear about that and clearly he is having a very difficult time processing that but we cannot afford to have a president of the United States who attempts as he did in the past to upend the will of the voters in a free and fair election and on Island news at 5 Tuesday we were joined by John Hart a local political analyst who broke down who won the debate and if that will make a difference in the race take a listen Harris wins this debate now does it matter that's an interesting question people say debates don't matter because they don't change minds and to a certain extent that's true but debates reinforce your position they make you feel better about your candidate right now this was the only scheduled debate between the two candidates
