Two dead in listeria outbreak in South Carolina

The CDC tonight says at least nine people have died, dozens have been hospitalized in what is our country's largest Listeria outbreak in more than a decade. Some newly released federal records show USDA inspectors turned up nearly 70 violations at that Boar's head plant in Virginia where they say the contaminated meat came from. They say they found will do black mold and insects at the plant. The company has recalled more than 7 million pounds of deli meat and said food safety is an absolute priority. Uh Sue Fleming is somebody who became violently ill after eating a liver or sandwich. She was in the hospital for nine days and then had to go to rehab. I was concerned literally that my bones were going to fly out of my body. That's how violent the shakes were. There's a human cost to this when food company, you know, if they don't do their job properly. Ok. People die while the company is now suing Boar's head. Listeria infections can cause flu like symptoms. They say it's especially harmful to elderly people or pregnant people or anybody with a weakened immune system. So where do we stand tonight in our state. The South Carolina Public of part Department of Public Health has spoken about this outbreak, urging residents to avoid all of that recalled boars head Deli Me DPH says that they do believe the Listeria outbreak contributed to two deaths in the low country. Our state epidemiologist has cautioned the public that the deaths were trace back to that deli meat. She has asked the public check your fridge, make sure you do not have any of this contaminated meat if you do. She says they need to not only throw it away but clean out sanitize wherever that was being held in your fridge.
