Why visiting Lisbon You want to visit a big city, in Europe, easily accessible from France, with 260 days of sunshine a year - I'm out of luck, too bad - well, welcome to Lisbon! As usual, all the places I show you are either accessible on foot or by public transport . If you like this kind of videos that take you to adventure in another country, I invite you to subscribe now to my youtube channel so you won't miss any of my next videos! Tower of Belem We start with the Tower of Belém which is behind me. It is one of the most famous buildings in Lisbon, which was built in the 16th century and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Monument of discoveries Next step: the Monument of the Discoveries which is nearly 52 m and which was built in memory to the Portuguese navigators of the 15th and 16th century and in particular Vasco da Gama who was the first European to have gone to India by bypassing the Africa. Now, Monastery of Jeronimites I take you to discover another building which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site: the Jeronimos Monastery. It is a huge building and took nearly 100 years to construct and is considered by many to be an architectural marvel of the 16th century. This is also where the tomb of the famous Vasco da Gama is located. If you wish to visit it, there is a part which is free but the cloister is paying for it. I present to you the Elevador Santa Justa which is an elevator of almost 100 years old with a Elevador Santa Justa typical metal architecture of the 1900s. You can also go to the top of its 45 m to enjoy an observation platform with a beautiful point of view. But like many tourist places, it is paying. Now I am in Praça do Comercio: Praça do Comércio which is considered the most beautiful square in all of Lisbon with its triumphal arch behind me. Like many parts of Lisbon, this part of the city was rebuilt after the earthquake of 1755. So little explanation: in fact on November 1, 1755, there was the worst earthquake that ever had in Europe whose epicenter was not far from Lisbon which razed the city. Then, there is a tsunami which devastated the coasts and as if that were not enough at that time there were lots of candles in the churches which fell and this caused a huge fire which almost completely destroyed the city. Tram 28 You may have already seen the old Lisbon tramway in pictures. I recommend line 28 which makes you to see historic districts and also to go up to quite steep places in Lisbon. It's a good way to visit the city but I personally prefer to walk. If there is a Alfama district district that is unmissable in Lisbon, it is the Alfama district, one of the few places that was not destroyed by the earthquake of 1755. It is part of the historical and very touristic city. To visit it, you have two choices either you let yourself be carried along according to your desires without GPS, or you go directly to visit the tourist places so firstly the Cathedral behind me, secondly the fado museum. So fado to put it simply, is the traditional music of Portugal: some example! In 3rd place: the Castel. It is a Moorish castle which dates from the Middle Ages. A little reminder Castel from your history lessons, Portugal was under Arab Muslim control for several centuries and it left its mark. The castle deserves to be seen and offers a very beautiful point of view on the city but like any tourist place it is paying at the cost of 8 euros 50. If you like to walk, I Miradouros advise you to go to the miradouros. Note that Lisbon is a very steep city and it has many hills so there are 16 miradouros which are in fact lookouts. If you're hungry TimeOut Market and want to eat in an original place, I recommend the TimeOut Market. The concept is a big American-style food court, except that instead of having fast foods, there are dozens of top quality restaurants. What is a foodcourt, for those who don't know? Imagine you come to eat with friends or family and each person chooses the restaurant of their choice and you all find yourself in the middle to simply eat together. It is impossible to leave Portugal without Pastéis de nata eating pastels de nata so an address that I recommend is Pastéis de Belém. It 's a tourist place but it's really very good. I even offer you a little live tasting. Sintra Now I'm taking you to Sintra. Certainly, it is not in Lisbon. It is a small town which is a few km away but it is accessible by train. The city is best known for its castles like the castle of the Moors but if you want to choose only one: I recommend the Palacio nacional de Pena which is similar to our Versailles in terms of tourism. It is one of the most visited places in all of Portugal. On the other hand, if I had to say only one defect: it is the price because you have to take the train to come from Lisbon, from Sintra, there are buses for which it is an additional price and the castle is paying, the park is also paying so everything accumulates and it is still a certain sum. It will be a small bonus scene, I think this park like all the rest of Portugal, it is often sunny. The park is really huge and beautiful but I must admit that with the fog, it gives a really special atmosphere, it's magnificent. If you want to visit Lisbon, Advices + my personal opinion I advise you to come at least a few days or even a week or more because there is a lot to see here. I could have talked about the Bridge of 25th of April, the beaches, the typical districts, the museums, etc. There are so many things to see. I think it's really a cheap city. If you are afraid of language problems, there are plenty of people who speak French or English so on that, no problem. There really are activities for all tastes, whether with family, friends or couples. The biggest flaw in my opinion is that it is extremely touristy , there are people everywhere so crowded, in tourist areas the prices go up so I advise you to go to a slightly more authentic area. As usual, if you liked this video and want to support my work, give it a thumbs up and share it!
