that lunch of course the first for the week it's a monday i still feel like it feels like a friday maybe i'm just having too much fun you know we are definitely launching tourism month here with um the department of economic development environment conservation and tourism detect you know the honorable mec is launching tourism month it's also abba month it's cleanup month so you heard you heard even in the previous conversation that happened um the previous conversations that we've been having that this is going to be a very eventful month i'm currently joined in our studio by uh mamamoo roma puli who is from the tourism association of mahiking and she is the deputy secretary general at the tourism association of bahiking welcome to ufm good morning how are you doing i'm great sweetness and how are you and your viewers i am wonderful we are happy we are so overjoyed to be having a chat with you all the time it's so nice to like traveling absolutely wow do you ever like you from a personal perspective i mean obviously with the work that you do but i can imagine you probably travel a lot for leisure as well you can balance the two you can work and play of course you get used to it tourism is very broad everything that you do in life is it's tourism uh-huh whether you eat whether you sleep whether you travel you are a tourist you're basically contributing to this country's economy i love spending oh and you get to you have experiences through different ways like a meal can be an experience so many hence i'm saying it's very broad it can be a restaurant it can be a traveling tour it can be any heritage establishment yes anything as long as you take out your money out of your pocket to pay for a service you are a tourist love it let's talk about the the tourism association of mahiking what is its aim and also how long has it been in existence all right um terrorism association of mahiking was established in 2019. okay um well after that you know we were hit hard by covet that's when now we decided to brew this association yes we decided to take all the tourism establishment around mahiking and the surrounding areas to come together and see how we can empower each other yeah so it can be your accommodation it can be your traveling doors your restaurant anything that has to do with tourism we decided to to become an association and help each other how do you how do you help each other maybe let's explore that just a little bit um like in accommodation we visit your establishment we we graded ourselves as an association okay okay we grade it we see where we can help you whether you need a plasma whether you need an acorn and then we talk to the department as an association yes so this is what we need oh that is interesting so i like you just mentioned well i i then um guessed that in terms of membership it comprises of all businesses that fall within the sector um obviously not everybody is probably a part of of the association take us through that how do associations know more about the tourism association of mahiki how do businesses join in all right we we normally host what we call pop-up markets all right that is where people now they just come and visit that's why everyone who's got a business-related tourism they come they ask about tourism association of magicking and that's where we share our information the ideas that our association our aim and everything we share it at our pop-up markets tell me about these pop-up markets do they happen all over mahiking or is this a set uh venue that they happen at it's it's different venues it's different venues because it's people from all over muffi king and uh the surrounding villages yeah but it's been happening on the highway of uh nelson mandela uh-huh and our next one is actually the saturday but it's at bunsiewa cultural village okay as you know that this is heritage month yeah so yeah tourism and culture they go hand-in-hand so we will be at munsiwa cultural village this is our market and heritage picnic i mean you hinted to the relationship that the association has with with the the northwest government maybe explore that a little bit for us how is the relationship what do you usually depend on you know the northeast government for um government it gives us a lot of opportunities for instance i will tell you that as a muslin woman i was chosen by our government to go and represent the botswana at dublin india and you know that's the largest largest marketing brand in the world so uh people were so intrigued about this situana culture because normally you know when you go all over the world when you say you are from south africa they only know zulus so you get there you tell them no i'm swanna from the northwest okay where is west you know sun city that's where we are so we we that's how we sell situana yes and and you know what's one are very humble people so so as as this is our heritage month we should be promoting domestic tourism absolutely we should know where we stay before we can market other places indeed and i mean i love that so much because you know for instance when people think tourism when people think travel when people think just learning through through tourism they they think we need to pack a bag we need to drive out we need to you know drive to an another city all together the important what is the importance of starting combat i know your place before you can even go ahead because we've got we've got very intriguing places our heritage side yeah uh we've got little more in them in mahi gang yeah that's where you know credo mutua actually built one of the biggest cultural villages around we've got cannon copy we've got the barolombora city in mexican we've got the biggest uh uh studio in my hiking brs yeah we've got the the airport with the longest trip in mafique so mafia has got a lot of rich history exactly yes people of math terms start in math will come to math town but
