about but the Steelers offense clicking on the first two drives defense turning over the Detroit lons and not get allowing them to get over the 50 yard line now they've made a little bit more progress but you still seeing good solid play clean communication nobody's having a jailbreak and I think that's a positive when you're grading this game thus far back to you guys thank you Max ball at the left has 33 yd line it is Funk who is deep in the eye formation instead of play action pass flung out to the right and dropped dropped in the right flat by the tight end James Mitchell who was wide open the ball was right in the money and he just dropped it boy that was you couldn't ask for better pitch and catch opportunity than right there as hooker on a little reverse roll out found uh his man Mitchell out in the flat all by his lonesome and he just dropped it flat out dropped it hooker in the shotgun now Funk to his right two receivers to the right of his formation the wide receiver to his left with a tight end that way as well hooker back looking right now looking back over the Middle Field and he is complete this is Kaden Davis and Davis has it out to about the 37 yd line about a yard short of a first down well Steelers rushed off the right side I believe that was Cory T coming off the slot Kyle Allen was able to stay in there and complete his throw beat Steelers back on that Blitz when the blitz don't get there look out you know that's a problem so hooker in the shotgun and he has Funk to his right gets the snap will give to Funk Funk will look to move to his right and it's hit by jacobe windman in the back field and it looks like it's going to be just short of a first down nice job by jacobe winman firing through to hit funk in the backi oh you want to talk about a it you see it then you do it well he dos it very well man he was downhill with a smack aration that had to uh register pretty good on on the Lions RoR scale well appeared to be a somewhat generous spot they've given him the first down trips to the left of the formation two receivers to the right empty set for hearnen ball on the right hash as hearnen gets a snap looks out to the right and intoe out of the hands of his intended receiver and that receiver was Donovan peoples Jones and the defensive back uh came flying up there that was Keandre Thomas who had interception pick six in mind oh man he jumped that route and I'm telling you what he almost had a pick six Keandre was just that close to doing another touchdown dance in the end zone there for the Steelers hooker in the shotgun has Funk to his left gets the snap will give to Funk off the right side Funk finds a little bit of a hole and then bust through that hole and gets out to about the 48 yd line looks like it's going to be a first down before KZ is able to come up and make the stop oh Damonte KZ had to come up make a hit from the safety position he got a good run somehow he slid in he got a hole there and was able to run run through a tackle or two until he got to Damonte KY who brought him down B on the right hash of the 48 yd line hooker under Center has Funk as alone setback Funk handoff moving right side and hit in the back field by Isaiah Loudermilk and swallowed into the ground now that's what we've been waiting to see from Isaiah Loudermilk haven't seen quite enough of it as we'd hoped for in the preseason but this is a young man with a lot of ability a lot of talent and right there it was on display quick swim over the backside guard split the the cut off Block in the backside able to get penetration and then come up and slam the back back into the ground that's a nice job Isaiah caught a loss of a yard second and 11 hooker gets the snap looking left will throw underneath has a man wide open and that is Isaiah Williams and Williams will get into Steeler's territory and down to the 36 yd line before he is finally taken down W that's an in route and there was blown assignment there somebody messed up cuz he was all by is Lonesome wide open running across the middle there even if it was Zone that's a big window in the middle of the field there hooker with the ball at the 36 yd line on the right hash has Funk behind him as the lone setback hooker play action pass looking under trouble and throws out to the right it's knocked down and that was Isaiah loudermill coming through on the right side unopposed once again forcing that throw to be hurried a little bit and Lowry knocked it down Dean Lowry veteran get those hands up you know when you realize okay I'm not getting any closer to the quarterback I see his eyes turning I get my hands up that's one of the skills that is taught continually to the defensive lineman you got to know when you're not getting a pass rush when you're if you're you know that quarterback he starts looking around when he looks your way man you got to get those hands up ball at the right hash Williams moves to the left and has trips that way hand off to Funk wide open huge huge hole off the left side and down to the 21 yd line of the Steelers oh wow they caught the Steelers coming with a with slant to one side they were able to wash people down and come back the other way with it and indeed that was a big hole there and I don't know which linebacker I think jacobe winman had a shot at him but wasn't able to bring him down that was a big play for the Detroit Lions B at the right hash 21 yd line of the Steelers hooker in the shotgun getting ready for the 10th play of the drive he has Funk to his right Steelers bringing pressure and Hern uh hooker able to avoid that pressure move out to the left finding some more room and lunging forward inside the five down to the 2yd line oh my somebody's going to have hooker nightmares tonight they had him dead to rights in the back field and they weren't able to bring him down couldn't squeeze the charman on it right up there and he did did some nice run and got around Thomas Graham and now hooker has the team already at the line of scrimmage will hand to Funk Funk bounces to the outside and he is not going to get to the corner as he is taken down and dropped back at the three yd line a loss perhaps of a half a yard or so Marcus Haynes was able to come up and make the stop for the Steelers one of the guys they just signed a couple of days ago right Marcus Haynes doing a nice job with the cut back cuz frankly he was the last man standing over there and if he hadn't brought him down that could have been been a tough one ball set at the right hash just outside the two yd line hooker has Funk to his right in the shotgun gets the snap looking out to the right looking and will throw to Funk who's wide open and Funk will score for the Lions as theyve scored for the first time here in this game to cut it to 14 to6 pending the outcome of the extra point well that was a simple out pattern and nobody went out with the the the receiver Punk on the on the out battern there my goodness just ran out there and I got a feeling I don't don't want to put any blame on anybody demarvin leel was end man on the line and then you had Mark Robinson was the linebacker in the area so between the two of them somebody had to have picked him up an impressive drive for the Lions and here now is Bates attempting to finish things off and bat's extra point attempt is up it is good and with two 2 33 remaining here from Ford Field the Pittsburgh Steelers lead has been cut in half it's now 14-7 wow that was a long drive that was a well put together Drive yeah 12 plays 72 yards took up 502 there's a big battle going on in Detroit now with hooker and Nate sudfeld as to who's going to be the backup quarterback hooker really didn't get anything going there until that last Drive didn't used his legs well too when it was called upon to scramble with the ball and the lions were obviously were able to run the ball well that one play that picked up a lot of yardage on the cut back by the back was really an outstanding play for them blocked very well washing down a lot of guys on the inside and there was nobody sitting in the hole on the back side so TJ Luther has gone back deep with John rice plumbley is this Ste there's running several guys through in the return roles and the Gunner rolls and various special team roles well we might be able to get a little two-minute action here here's bait to the boot and it is going to skip past Luther and it looks like it goes out of bounds does it yep flag goes up it'll be out of bounds and he was aiming for the corner there trying to again skip it through between the goal line and the 20 and maybe you can get it to roll free Kick Out of Bounds ball plac at the 40 ydd line first down so again dangerous there you're trying to skip it through and if it gets through the end zone it's marked at the 20 but if you fail it gets marked at the 40 well you're trying all kinds of stuff now they're trying to see what works effectively for them with a high percentage and if you have a kicker who has a high percentage ability of being able to do that that would be great but if you miss you're out to the 40 already which the Steelers are and two-minute offense this is good stuff exactly Kyle Allen in the quarterback position as dejon Edwards who moves right to left trips to the left of the formation and a quick throw out to that left side it's Scotty Miller Miller spins through one tackle the 40 and gets out of bounds gets an extra shove out there along the far Sid line as well and it'll be marked at about the 42 yd line so give him about a two- yd gain well it's a wide receiver screen out to the flat he gets the ball and it one of the Lions picked up enough of his jersey to hold him up so that the rest of them could come through knock them out of bounds but it's a good throw by Kyle Allen just started off yeah calling for more noise now and we're calling for the two-minute warning and it is just arrived so it's now time for the ball their own 42 as we head down to Max Starks all right guys not the best look on that drive for the defense but you also realize you have a lot of guys fighting for jobs uh on that Squad so a lot of mixed Parts in there thought I saw some good things but still not good enough when you give up the big plays like you did to hinden Hooker on an Off Script run that put them in in the goal to go situation offensively sacks can't give those up so you want to see some consistency going in this two-minute drill let's see if they can get there and get in a scoring position I'm not asking for a touchdown but get into scoring position with this drive you have a second a little bit longer you've got some space to work with try and make sure you execute and just hold up and allow Kyle Allen to do some work back to you guys thank you Max it is a second and eight with the ball on the 42 yd line marked on the left hash Allen deploys three receivers to his right two to his left it's an empty set Allen pointing to his right looking at the middle linebacker who shows Blitz now up the middle of the field now he'll settle back into his Zone position as Allen gets a snap looks and is hit the ball is hit from behind knocked out and let's see who's got the ball it looks like the Lions have recovered uh Ryan M oh no I thought he was going to come away with the ball but he's going groundhog there Ryan mallum y I think it might have been uku who is fighting for a spot on the Lion's roster who came up with a strip of Allen from behind and Smith who came up with a recovery for the Lions so instead of the Steelers marching down and looking for a first half score at the end of this first half it is the Lions now who have the ball in Steelers uh field position at the 33 yd line of the Steelers well that was Dey Hamilton left tackle that got driven into the backside back his backside into the backside of Kyle Allen and knocked dislodged the ball knocked it right out that's that's a bad feeling if you're an offensive lineman and you end up bumping into your quarterback you know you it's one of those things you turn around like oh because you obviously created some real Havoc back there and that ball being loosed like that it's a shame Steels had an opportunity to work the two-minute drill and now they're not going to be able to have it ball at the left hash 33 yd line hooker under Center as Jefferson is theone setback play action pass looking looking out to his left now back to his right across the middle of the field it is complete taken in down at the 15 yd line and that is Kaden Davis who made the reception for the Lions well you got a little play action with an in route Kaden Davis makes a big reception you got Mark Robinson right in the face of hooker just came up and made a nice hit on him but he was just a hair late and he was able to complete that pass underneath Lions huddling up they're in no hurry here a minute 25 and Counting the ball the 15 yd line they still have two timeouts remaining hooker under center it's a tightly bunched formation with two receivers to each side Jefferson the lone setback now A Man in Motion is Mitchell to the left and the pitch goes to the left and Jefferson will find plenty of room before he is driven down by montravius Adams gets inside the 10 and down to the eight yd line well you pitch the ball to your deep man and you're looking for that that cut back and that's exactly what he was able to do being able to cut back to the inside of montravius Adams and Mark Robinson was there they'll back him up jacobe winman hit the front side B Gap but it's the backside a gap that was exposed right there the Lions will use one of their two remaining timeouts with 44 seconds left the ball's at the 8 yd line it's a second and three and 44 seconds left plenty of time with still one timeout remaining here wolf exactly so um you know for the Steelers again trying to trying to come with some heat trying to make a difference and being able to do something here to hold off the lines it's been a complete reversal again of quarters you know our starters beat up on their starters and now their backups are attempting to beat up on our backups I suppose if you were to pick your poison you'd take the first scenario oh yeah starters being there starters I I think so no doubt about it but right now be interested to see what the Steelers can do in this situation Ste they substituting the ball is at the 8 yd line of the Steelers the line's huddling up now they'll have a second and three when hooker breaks the Huddle as he does now two receivers to the right of the formation one to the left there's a tight end to the left as well Jefferson remains in the game as the lone running back and on the delay the fake by Hooker Hooker rolling to the left hooker's going to keep and hooker will get inside the five before he's shoved out of bounds by Kiron Johnson that's a nice job on play action with a little roll out hooker rolling to his left attempting to throw across his body if he can but you got jacobe winman and Kiron Johnson nice job by Kiron of driving over the man trying to block him put him right on his back got disengaged and was able to chase down and after hooker keep him from turning up and an interesting play of fake draw so there's that moment of hesitation for everybody out there defensively exactly and now hooker in the shotgun with the ball at the four yd line on a first goal he'll give to Jefferson Jefferson up the middle of the field hit there by Johnson now the scrum ensues and a little shove forward from the three down of the one I was afraid time out by the lines but I was afraid that scrum was going to carry over in the end zone like a Rugby scrum you know you got the guys you know you stand the guy up and you you got him Kiron Johnson again making a nice uh play coming off getting off his block attempted bling V and he get a whack on there but then you get other guys that join in and you're trying to pull push against that that great pulling action you know you got two forces and it gets it you get a little lethal inside there remember again that used to technically be illegal but if you stand up a guy now you must be thinking uhoh I hope our guys come before their guys yeah hey I need some help here boys you know that's why it's you got to tackle bring if you're going to tackle tackle in a posi bring your boys along with you 28 seconds remaining here in the first half second and one from the one yd line the ball left hash hooker has Jefferson to his left two receivers to the right of the formation and here's Jefferson Jefferson off the right side gaping hole and Waltz is into the end zone for an easy score and the Lions now pending the extra point have an opportunity to tie this game up with just 25 seconds remaining in the first half oh that was just an inside handoff and he was able to take it right into the end zone scored rather easily unfortunately I ha to say that there was a big hole over the right side so Bates will be on to try the extra point he did miss one last week for the Lions four for four on field goal attempts though and here's the boot by Bates and he doesn't miss this one we are tied up at 14 a piece with 25 seconds remaining in the first half as we go downstairs now to Max Starks Max all right guys just as fast as it happened early in this game for the Steelers it's now happening for the Detroit Lions two consecutive drives two consecutive scores short field on this last one on a sudden change turnover not what you want to see which when you're thinking about Mike Tomlin at a halftime you wonder what the adjustments will be what he'll feel because just as good as you felt in the first quarter you're not feeling as good in the second quarter and a lot of opportunities still out there still trying to find out who's that nickel Corner guy going to be and when you look at how that play happened um you know in the previous drive on that on that quick inside slant I know there's supposed to be safety support but that's a key position where nickel Corner comes into play in those situations and then of course Gunner the punt returns have put the lions in position to be successful off of Steelers stalling drives another area so those things are still very much in play guys back to you yeah Max thanks very much that was Thomas Graham on that slant that Max was talking about but again whether that was man or Zone uh difficult to say but Graham was the guy who was out there in the slot Corner position at that time here's rice plumbley now with the ball at the 2 yd line crosses the 10 to the 20 angles to the right finds a little bit of a hole and then moving across the formation is taken down right at the 25 yd line with a flag on the play you know you wonder what some of the adjustments might be in the second half well dur return holding receiving team number 40 T yard penalty first down you know some of the adjustments might be sitting some people down Rob right you know and that's that's a telling sign for what's coming up after now with a holding in the 30 yd line hooker gets the snap looking throws out to the right quickly it's zra zra tries to make a move now the stiff arm of Haynes and he will get forward close to first down yardage see where they mark it they said he got knocked out of bounds by Haynes back at the 22 yd line so it'll bring up a third and short well that was uh that was stretching the neck of uh Haynes there by zra you know checking to see the resiliency I mean that I don't know why that wasn't a flag yeah that was a face full of you got a hand face mask by hannes so third and three with the ball at the 22 yd line hooker gets the snap will give to Knight Knight has a hole off the right side and Knight will pick up a first down down to the 17 yd line of the Steelers well that was just a little cut back takes that handoff and just cuts back behind the center there was able to get the first down boy you got it giving up a little too much ground there in the in the trenches was Gilbert who came up to make the stop now the ball to 17 with hooker under Center he'll give to Knight off the left side Knight makes a move in the back field and gets down to about the 15 where he's bottled up and stopped there and that's Mark Robinson just you know again one of those guys that's got great CDO a great ability to see it fire that gun as they say if you're a linebacker you got to get up in there and beat the interception point between you and the offensive line and Mark Robinson was able to do that and then come off and almost made the tackle in the back field but you know almost is not good enough nice job of Mark Robinson again getting on the line side of the scrimmage and being able to come up and get in on the hit and stop the forward motion of the back so that at least even if you didn't totally tackle them and bring him to the ground cleanly the rest of the defense is able bble to reload and get to him and help him out so fourth and inch is hooker back and there's a flag that comes down as the Lions moved quickly they came to the line of scrimmage tried to get SN off quickly offense number 59 5yd penalty remains fourth down and it was too quickly and so Manu is called for the big offensive linemen up in front of him there he was able to get on behind taem Doss and get over the Right Guard follow that big man up in the middle of of the Detroit Lions defense and that's a nice job of getting positive yardage and and in very difficult territory and big man is an apt description for Doss uh at over 350 lbs he is a big huge force on that offensive line Conor Hayward right to left now back to the right play action pass roll out towards Hayward and overshot him in the right flat incomplete and that will bring on the field goal unit for the Steelers oh that was so close Conor Hayward ran an out pattern right at the sticks that ball was just a little high got went out to the outside there and Kyle Allen had somebody jumping in front of him caused him to put a little couple guys draped around him spun around and I think Washington and Johnson ran into each other so now a third and six from in the shotgun and now his man will move on the left of the formation that's Calhoun who jumps off offense number 80 5y penalty remains third down they flash to to Dan Campbell you look at his face you know he's looks like he's got that uh he's not going to be around Long yeah well you I don't know you know the coaches don't they don't they want their Guys these guys to at least play clean don't want to see those don't want to see those pre- snap penalties the ninth penalty on the lions from in the shotgun now on a third third and 11 back to pass Steelers bringing the blitz he throws over the middle of the field has a man open and it is Calhoun Calhoun the man who jumped off sides is able to pick up the first down into Steelers territory and down to the 47 yd line well it's an in-breaking route and from hits Calhoun there and I I got to tell you if you're going to make a mistake that's how you make up for it you come up with a big play of your own that's a good job there of coming back from it unfortunately for the Steelers but Calhoun made a nice catch over the middle 745 in counting remaining fourth quarter as from breaks the Huddle for the Steelers or for the Lions I beg your pardon eye formation Funk is the Deep set back PR gets a snap play action pass looking over the middle of the field again and this one is hauled in once again by Calhoun and Calhoun with Keandre Thomas draped all over and makes the fine catch down at the 31 well that that was a nice catch by Calhoun driving almost looked like he extended a little on on Keandre and got a little push off there but officials didn't see it that way and he came back made a catch so again if you're going to make a mistake double up on doing positive things Lions moving right to left in front of us have the ball at the right hash 31 yd line of the Steelers from under Center turns pitches gives to H Funk on that pitch and Funk will cross the 30 before Slade rides him down at about the 28 yd line it was a good job by the corner to come up and turn the play in you know you got one of those big beef eaters coming at you one of the offensive linemen 300 plus pounds you got to come up and you got to turn it in and he certainly did and Jacob Slade made a nice job of coming down the line and making the tackle ball to 28 yd line on the left hash from once again under Center under 620 remaining here in the fourth quarter brings the Man in Motion across the formation he'll settle to the right they give to Funk off the right side Funk stretching it out and Funk will get down to about the 23 yd line before The Quay Washington drags him down and that was just a good example of a wide Zone just keep stretching it stretching it and eventually you're going to make those defensive tackles inside linebackers get them onedimensional by turning their shoulders they him run towards the side lines and at that point the running back really has an ability to pick one of several options as far as you know which hole to hit got to have somebody sets a hard Edge approaching 5 and a half minutes remaining here in a third and two the fourth quarter at Ford Field from in the shotgun gets the snap looks out to the right looking now lost as a man wide open and it is incomplete he had Funk on a circle route wide open and it is an incomplete pass and stops the clock at 527 remaining here in the fourth quarter the lions are set up to still go for this wow that was so close I don't know what Funk was looking at he stutter stepped yeah he did and slowed down and the ball I looked from his angle probably looked like Jaylen Elliot was going to be there and make a play on it but certainly Funk is now in a funk how's that yeah it looked like looked like that was a well thrown ball instead it's a fourth down now the ball at the 23 yd line Funk is theone set back for from under Center two receivers to each side and now there will be a flag and a delay of game on the Lions and that will delay game offense number 18 5 yard penalty remains fourth down that will mean the field goal unit will come out Jake Bates to try a field goal here for the Lions fortunately we can't get any overtime that's good yes that's uh change the rules as they've already got things marked off here at the 40 36 yd line so a 46y attempt here for B from the right hash 2117 Lions this would put them up by a touchdown should they get the conversion here by Bates looks like one of the Steelers jumped and that kick is up and that kick is good now let's see what Dan Campbell decides to do he take the field goal and assess the penalty on the kickoff or you go for it again here
