mes it might be Allen it maybe a guy like CJ St just cuz he's young and got a long Runway I don't know I don't know maybe not he got a couple MVPs that's what I'm saying I I don't that's why I think when you when you start looking at it like that you got to feel pretty good even though he's been around the block a few times and coming into year 16 right you feel like you got the guy that he's going to make good decisions he can still make all the throws physically right there's not too many things that you could ask for that he's not going to bring to the table has he ever been the best quarterback in a single year probably not no because he was always drowned out by the Green Bay Packers you know what I mean I think his record and being in the NFC North for so long it was always about the Packers um I also just believe that he's not a tick tock viral social media type of quarterback he's not going to give you those plays and he's like wow like that run and you know take off and leave everybody and run into the end no that's that's not Matthew he throws some more of those no look passes like he did in the Super Bowl those are pretty good social media but those are the ones you're like oh wow this dude still got it um I think that's where it is and then also too he's at a point in his career now where the young guys are sending the respect to him like seeing a CJ stra say hey look I I admire and I watch Matthew Stafford and Aaron Rogers so today to me it's always tonight is about just showing everybody think Tom Brady said it we're still here we're still here that's Matthew Stafford I'm still here I'm not going nowhere and there's also something to be said about having two of the greatest receiving Seasons that you've been the quarterback for you've had are going to get a taste of what it's like to be in the NFL right now but Demarco how cool is to see this young front right we talk about the two rookies but then it's not like the other two guys who'll be alongside them or eight or ninee veterans Byron young is still in his second year Kobe Turner will be in his second year the Rams got younger got fresher got hungrier along that defensive front how do you think they all pair well tonight as a as a unit see you stopped and say they got better well I mean you know and shout out to Kobe Turner I mean he is really taking over the role as becoming a leader for this group so and I met his father last night look just like his daddy Ain't No Doubt ain't no doubt that's your daddy uh but yeah I met him he said look he's been waiting for this his entire life he's been ready for this his entire life he had the benefit of playing next to Aaron Donald but being the guy being the leader being the folk opponent of a defensive line is something he is ready for so he's they're going to need his leadership tonight uh how to win this football game how to come out and deal with this crowd how to deal with Detroit having success don't get down in yourself make the next play so that's what he's been talking about with these young guys don't worry about what Detroit does if they make plays so what they make plays on everybody get ready for the next one get ready for you to make a play Super Bowl champ DeMarco far joining us from Detroit getting us ready for the Lions and the Rams you said that they're going to need his leadership tonight obviously no Aaron Donald Ernest Jones got traded uh you know not that long ago so somebody's going to have to step into that leadership role when do you need it the most and how does it manifest itself to Marco how does somebody especially a younger player like a Kobe Turner let everyone else know that hey guys I got this follow me probably after Detroit has success they go down the field and score on the first drive remember that last in in January I just told this to Chris cullins when he said Chris Collinsworth when he said uh when Detroit played the Rams last year I said no that was January that was this year so same thing when they go down the field have success eight or nine plays and they're racking up eight or nine first downs and it looks like they're killing that's when you need the leadership hey guys it's okay we can handle this we can make adjustments we can come back on them it's a long football game so don't get dow in yourself on One Snap One Snap clear move on to the next so I would say anytime Detroit has success that's when that need that leadership needs to step up yeah Daren Kendrick out for the year we all know that Darius Williams was banged up so he's going to start the uh the the year on IR so Kobe Durant it's his time now right we've been watching him over the last couple years DeMarco tonight is his moment to take this job this could be his job going forward even when Darius Williams come back tonight I want to see all about 14 the opposite of travius white I agree with you 100% uh even with Darius Williams I still think you're going to have trouble covering these guys up Aman Ross Brown is is fantastic he's the guy that Jared feeds the ball to but you know who really gives teams fits and who's the best receiver on this football team in Detroit it's actually Sam leapa the issue that's a guy you got to worry about keeping a LD on Aman Ross say Brown is going to get his no matter what they're going to jam him the football but leapor is a guy that wins contested balls he's the guy that kills you within the scheme and on the Jazz session like when it's beyond the play so that's a guy you got to keep a lid on especially when you're talking about not having Ernest Jones I fourth back in the lineup knowing how to cover up these guys jarco far joining us from Detroit get us ready for the Rams and the Lions so we're talking about St Brown and leaport and gof and Gibbs and Montgomery and all these players on offense Chris schula is the one in charge of figuring out how to how to slow that down what what have you noticed from him in his first year as the DC aggressive I love it uh he's up the field you know I love the Ben bone break I really do it's been fun it's been great and you won a Super Bowl with it and you were in the playoffs with it but look if you're going to die die fast that means go up the field try take your shot really if Detroit scores then good score quickly give the ball back to your offense and let Matthew Stafford try to answer if you got to Win It by 40 points then so be it or or scoring 40 points then so be it but yeah I would expect Chris Schuler to dial It Up play fast and get up the field you've got to put Jared gof behind the chains really you got to take him out from behind that running game and that offensive line and put him on front streak and make Jared gof have to beat you with his arm and then get after him but if he stays behind that line stays behind the running game stays on schedule you're going to have issues all night trying to stop him yeah it's going to be a game one in a trenches and if it's on one side of it I'm thinking of which pass rusher of the ram we're just talking about those young guys up front which pass rusher you think will have the better opportunity is it going to be Byron young lining up on pan or is it going to be on the opposite side of getting Jared verse to kind of prove to everybody who he is first remember how that rookie year goes DeMarco we wanted you to prove it let me see who you are before we double team you or bring the line protection to your way you know what it's it's just like having a franchise quarterback to me I mean you draft these guys and you put them right in and say go save the team I'm expecting the same out of Jared verse where do you put your best pass rusher right in where does he like the line up right in okay good be that guy tonight uh Braden Fisk same thing when they set you up and put you in the the advantageous pass rushing position of a three technique where it's just you and that guard it's not good enough just to stalemate a guy you can't trade one for one in this league especially against Detroit you're going to have to win so I understand you haven't done it I understand you're a rookie but so be it they're drafting you for a reason you need to be that guy tonight if this team is going to be successful DeMarco as a former defensive lineman if you couldn't tell yeah I was going to say let me take a wild guess as to maybe who that could be what you get to look at his face a smile just a flat face what did he when he heard it what' he do look man I'm trying not to Fanboy but he loves this this yes he loves being booed absolutely is the I mean is it as as it was a year ago obviously the playoffs are a different animal but it feels like maybe it's been dialed back just a little bit especially the with the parts directed at at Stafford in in particular Travis I think it's going to be Rockets I mean you can tell the these people have been waiting for this for a long time they're excited nobody's sitting down they're all standing up uh but it's it's not like it was in January in January it was always it was already a mad house for warm-ups I mean they were like basically jumping over the rafters trying to get in here but right now I think they're a Pati paent fan base they understand they have a pretty good football team so they're waiting for their opportunity to explode but in January like I said we needed more security down here for pre game you know DeMarco Jonah Jackson comes goes from left guard to now to Center Ava goes from Center to guard Kevin doson is still there I said no matter what I know the tackles we already know that the Rams are going to have two new starting tackles for this game but I said that interior triangle is still the same regardless of how they mix it up and match it the three best offensive line for the Rams are the interior three does the the mixup change anything for those guys or still about that's where the push that's where they're going to protect Matthew Stafford to allow him to step up and make some plays I'm sorry I got sidetracked Kurt I I just saw Dan Campbell that is one big human that is a big human being have you seen his Applebee's commercial yes I have as far as like Football Genius I will take our guys but the guy I want I want with me in a bar fight I'm taking their no down but yes I you know I asked that very same question about hey what what happened with the center move they said look this is the the the way they think they can get their best five on the field and I said exactly what you said Kirk it's the same Five Guys theoretically if you if you have allar Jackson but the interior three the same guys so I asked Jonah Jackson I said man um have you played center he goes yeah I'm actually a center he considers himself a center so this might be a move that stays for a while not just for this week why did they make the change so late in the camp you know no one's willing to say and I even asked I said how did Steve Aila do as a center in training camp they said he did fantastic but I think they always had this move in mind I really do at least that's the way they're spending it so this is their best five they feel comfortable with with Jonah Jackson at Center they feel comfortable with Steve ail at at guard that's the way they're going with it and it might stay that way for the rest of the year if it go goes well tonight DeMarco far will be on the sideline for tonight's game the Rams and the lions and then he will be to battle the Lions and we're get you set once again with KK Morris said here's your host Travis Rogers I don't know what little NFC wildcard matchup that's uh same place same two teams and the team's slightly different the Lions really similar from a year ago and really the big difference for the Rams is on the defensive side of the ball no eron Donald but a lot of the guys that played in that game a year ago Kirk or not even a year ago earlier this very same year like DeMarco just pointed out are going to be back at it again today and this is a little bit different because I think coming into this season the Rams coming in into last season it was a who the heck knows what this Rams team is going to look like they they might win four games and be in the mix for the top pick and obviously that's not what happened they end up winning 10 they go into the playoffs one of the hottest teams in the league the Lions went in last year with big expectations and met them they go to the NFC championship game they come in with maybe even bigger expectations this year you wonder how they'll do with the burden of okay last year was cool nice run you got to the NFC championship game but now you got to take it a step further yeah I I think the expectations are clearly higher for the Detroit Lions now you're not sneaking up on anybody anymore and now with the injury to Jordan love in their division now that may give them a little bit of a room in a cushion Caleb Williams didn't like the the league on fire today in his first game with the Chicago Bears now Sam Darnell did his thing all right shout out to Sam darnold you former USC quarterback played well for the the the Vikings today but that being said though I still look at the Detroit Lions as one of the top teams in the NFC we think it may be a collision course with them in the 49ers we'll see the 49ers tomorrow so the expectations are always going to be high for the Detroit Lions this year for the Rams I think it's we know what they're capable of we know that they can be in the conference Championship but now they just got to go out there and prove it they they were onepoint short last year of being I think everybody's Cinderella darling yep they were one point away that's going to be the case this year because we're talking Eagles we're looking the Cowboys had a great game today all right we're talking about the the Packers and what they were able to do we right now we're talking about the um the the the the the Minnesota Vikings the Detroit Lines now and I'm like hey hey he hey what what about the Rams what what about the Rams like they they they not going nowhere well the one time we've seen the Rams struggle with with Shan MC as our head coach was the year after the Super Bowl and they struggled for a very specific reason the offensive line got hurt early and often and they were by the time you got into week three or four they were on third stringers and fourth stringers in some spot they're not at that point right now however you look at the offensive line that they're going to start the season with tonight and they're going to have jono at left tackle who was not slated to be the starter you have uh mundon at right tackle who's filling in for an injured rob havenstein you flip-flopped Avala and Jackson from gard and Center back the other way and the plan all along was to have Avala be the center until about a week ago that was the plan that's a lot of movement on the offensive line right before the start of the Season yeah it's a lot of movement but I think you you can add some tight ends to this situation as well extend the line of scrimmage just a little bit and you've got guys now that know how to protect Matthew Stafford and he knows how to protect himself Cooper cup puka AA two guys that look you don't need much room for those guys you just put the ball in the area they'll go get it I'm interesting to see how do the Rams start this football game or do they run the football right do or do they are pass I mean it's going to be fun to watch this because finally we get to see this offense un leash we we think we know but we're going back to what we talked about earlier this year in January what's the 2024 version look like you never know you never know until it's kicked off you never know I mean we're going to get Kyon Williams at his Peak because when he's good Rams are good they're really good when he's impacting the game like that they look like a totally different team so maybe that's somebody to look at right at the beginning only third youngest and he's still not 40 years old he's starting his eighth season but the Rams are Shawn McVey aren't they like when you think of them you're going to think of some players here and there but you think of McVey first or at least I do well the two young guys won by the way uh in Seattle Seattle Mike McDonald and then on the other side Gerard mayo oh Mayo too that's right yeah two and0 so the two young guys went out and got their win I can't think of Sean I know like by the calendar he's a young guy but by experience he is not a young guy no no no not by experience he's he's by far in the way but I think I want to counter your point and say I think tonight is about the clash of the coaches you know what I mean because we've seen the Sha McVey and his coaching tree and what sha McVey has been meant to the National Football League since he's been a head coach with the Rams and then you look on the opposite side where we looked at an opening press conference and we laughed at the guy and said who was this guy kneecap kneecaps and now you fast forward a couple years later and you're say hey this may be one of the best coaches in the National Football League so I think it's a battle of the coaches of the guy who was a master motivator a guy who tells it like it is versus kind of the boy Genius right the offensive genius the offensive mind and who gets the most out of their players tonight they' built their teams totally different they've built them differently but Mir One is using the one that McVey said I can't win with yeah I'm using jar I'm I'm showing you what you can't win with I can win with they're winning with him and and the Lions have done a great job I I'm curious and I think you got a decent answer last year because coming into go go back two seasons and the Lions I think they finished 8- n but they finished with a high Mar Mark against Green Bay last game they beat him Aaron rers last game right and feeling really good about it and it's like okay lions are a team to look for next year but it was kind of like let's see if they're good they were they go to the NFC Championship Game this is they might be the best that's a different weight to carry than hey yeah maybe you're good maybe you'll win the division maybe you'll make the playoffs maybe you'll do this sea mcy has had the weight of you need to the the Super Bowl is the they had that early exit from the playoffs last year they weren't that same team so could this be one of those situations where we're looking at this saying okay um Detroit was it great for one year opted to shuffle their interior as well meaning former lion Jonah Jackson is now the starting center and second-year pro Steve aalo returns to left guard DeMarco we're set for the NFL debuts of the defensive tandem out of Florida State Jared burst the Rams first first round selection since Goff and Braden fist but behind them and really all around them are significant question marks La traded their defensive captain and their Green Dot linebacker Ernest Jones the corners Darion Kendrick Darius Williams are on injured reserve and the opening night tests DeMarco perhaps the best offense in football uh the best offensive line definitely I mean they are absolutely scary every time I watch them on film I get that queasy feeling like back in the day watching Denver or Dallas come at you they're big they're nasty they're mean they do a great job of protecting Jared Goff so he can get the football off look if Jared vers and Braden FIS are going to cut their teeth in the NFL why not tonight why not against the best in the business who knows they can wind up taking over the game just like they did the ACC Championship Game there's nothing against that get off the field as fast as you can give it back to your offense and let Matthew Stafford go to work against this defense allance come into this evening very healthy especially on offense among the high dollar contract problem for for a lot of teams in the pack and he started off as a rookie was a problem he's mean he's their enforcer he does everything all the dirty work he's their all I know Jared's the offensive quarterback but they look to pin for that energy and that effort when you go to Amon R st Brown the way he blocks the way he plays the energy the effort this is what Dan Campbell's always wanted to bite those kneecaps well he paid two guys that like to bite kneecaps and that's what and then when you do that the rest of your roster follows suit probably his most famous quotation but after their loss at Levis in Santa Clara he said it's going to be even harder for them to get back to that nfu championship game here in 2024 now that they are the hunted like you pointed out and yet he says the a creased left side below the 30 to the 28 yd line as we hit the one minute Mark first quarter Rams on defense protecting a field goal lead 3-0 but Jared goth has the lions in position to answer oh right there L like the Rams were a little confused they shifted to the weak side leaving a big gaping hole to the strong side and then obviously the Lions and Montgomery just run to the strong side and there's not a lot of uh resistance there Ben Johnson offensive coordinator opted not to pursue head coaching opportunities and stay here in Detroit to work with Goff as the OC 35 seconds left in the first Goff in the shotgun second and short Wings it out wide it's caught left side by Jameson Williams he's bobbing and weaving and going nowhere trying to elude the pursuit but Quinton Lake and the occasion on defense including a John Johnson interception to set up the go-ahead touchdown drive in this fourth quarter can they do it once more 211 the two-minute warning and two timeouts for the line they begin with a delay a draw up the middle a run for jir Gibbs into the arms of Braden fist the rookie defensive tackle and that will take us to the two-minute warning the ball will be on the 36 when we continue 20- 17 Rams in front of the lions from where they were Maurice a moral victory for sure but not one they want to settle for if you can get to 1 and0 here despite these or cury I mean you have Warren McLendon who played a ton of reps as well like these guys had to get those reps so they can be prepared for this moment and now you're seeing the the the benefits of that now can you keep that going obviously you don't want you you don't want to keep playing guy rookies and things like that but for this game it's worked out the understatement of week one this was not the group the Rams expected to bring to Detroit and potentially Come Away with a victory here they are we talked about this this offseason how exciting it was if you could stay healthy and again with one of the fiercest linebackers to ever play the game Kirk Morris said here is your host Travis Rogers Kirk that is one of the weirdest games that I have seen in a very long time where the Rams had guys dropping left and right were operating with a backup to backups on the offensive line and they still should have won the game and this is a game that they probably on paper were not the team to beat probably on paper as you went deeper into it with all the injuries along the offensive line to PUK and Thea not the team to beat and yet the Rams had ample opportunities to win that game and couldn't get it done they lose 26 to 20 in overtime yeah that was the game they should have won and there there's mistakes along the way even with everything that happened with the offensive line you mention already mentioned the injuries some of the coaching decisions as well that's a football game they've got to win they got to win that one you you you on the road like to me there was just some points in that game where I'm sitting back I'm going man you can't let this one slip away these are the games that will haunt you later in the year we're going to go back and think about I think even to last year now the Rams are able to win in week 18 but we're going to think man remember week one you had that one you had Jared G the defending NFC North Champions the defending or the team that played in a conference Championship Game a year ago you were the better team and I can say this they've been the better team the last two times I felt they were the better team in the Wild Card round I thought that they should have won that game yeah so it's the last two opportunities against the the Detroit Lions I I just honestly right now if you're asking me who's the better football team I'm telling you a blind eye test I'm looking the Rams are a better team on that field today the Rams certainly had more opportunities but what they couldn't do is score in the in in the Red Zone something that they had trouble with in the playoff game a year ago where they went 0 for five in the excuse me 0 for three they went 0 for two in their first trip two trips today they finally did get in ultimately but you know take your pick this was a whole bunch of things that if you could run the tape back and do it differently again Shawn mcvey's decision to go for it early in the game on Fourth and four from the 23 yd line they don't get it that's three points that maybe you could have had towards the end of the game you have a first and goal from the one yard line you do not get into the end zone you end up kicking a field goal you end up going the wrong way with penalties and and everything else Matthew Stafford throws an intercept In The End Zone you don't get points despite being inside the 10 yd line in that opportunity as well Kiren Williams doesn't get in doesn't stay in bounds he goes out of bounds uh late in the fourth quarter where it allows him to stop the clock put saving Detroit maybe another 30 seconds or so saving them another timeout that they don't have to use just a a a series of mistakes decisions execution and just mental preparedness that they just could not get done today yeah and these are the things that you Tred to emulate during training camp you just can't do it you can't have this game like uh simulation so when you get to week one and youve saw it just throughout the National Football League today we've watched pretty much every single game the Rams just didn't have enough late they they were a team that they they looked like they didn't play in the preseason that that defense was gassed they were they had nothing left for overtime to watch the way they run down their throats all right yeah out and even the Detroit Lions were like we're not even going to let Jared G throw the football like don't get me wrong they ran the ball seven of their eight plays in overtime y look even Dan Campbell was like nah Jarry sit this one out you just handing the ball off so even they knew what was going on the Rams were tired man they that young defense of front I I I just tweeted it out right now they were sturdy for him throughout this throughout the game but yet fatigue late I mean we I showed you a couple rushes I'm saying hey man that dude's tired gu just standing up he just standing up they just they just getting in the way hopefully and somebody runs into him that you you can't do that but look there's going to be uh there's still a lot of positives I take away from this game obviously you never want to lose there were some negatives but there were a lot of positives too a lot of positives throughout the football team that I definitely want to highlight throughout because I don't want this effort to go as if the
