2024-04-22 Darren Baker on Ross County Historical Society annual meeting

I'm Kevin Coleman with the setup post at the Ross County Heritage Center and I was held up covering chikoy Council so I missed the big evening so uh director Darren Baker what did I miss tonight uh well we started off the evening with uh uh the approval of our minutes from the from the last year's meeting uh we moved on through uh treasury's report to give us an update on where the historical society is financially um uh as well as where we've been over the past year we've had a a lot of changes obviously I'm a new person here I'm a new face but we've had a couple other things too um we have some new exhibits going on we have uh some new policies we had a few changes to the bylaws and to our uh governing documents um as well as we presented um uh the first capital historical Awards to four recipients this evening um uh the UNESCO world heritage site with the Ohio history connection and the full committee there uh Elmdale green uh out on the Eastern side of the county um and we had uh dard Hunter with his restoration of the mountain house here in chilo as well as uh what have I forgotten I forgotten one um as well as the restoration of the uh Good Shepherd Church out in bourneville um uh and then we had two uh recipients to our Nolan scholarship this evening um uh I've forgotten their names right at the moment I did speak to them so I've got their Nam you got that good um uh yeah and that was that was the evening's meeting it was a good meeting well a lot of people might think museums are static boring places but this is a happening place yeah I think so we're doing a lot of things here what are some of your new displays um we uh we have a a show uh called implements and Alex it's a new uh exhibition of our historic farming equipment along with some of our Farmers almanacs that date all the way back to 1798 um and some of which describe a solar eclipse I think it yeah we have the the 1806 that was the last time that the solar eclipse that happened this year just recently um and then we uh so we also have a a show of um children's books uh from our Mel Library collection um over in the Mel Library Gallery uh and we're setting up a show upstairs right now with uh called loving gifts that goes in conjunction with our new book that just came out today on the quilts on the quilts and how can people learn more about what's here uh visit our website uh Ross County historical.org or go to our Facebook page um and you're welcome to come by Tuesday through Saturday from 1:00 to 5:00 and what are the benefits of membership what are the benefits of membership well you get to hang out in such a cool place right no we have uh we have n we have newsletters that come out quarterly you uh uh you know we have lots of different events happening that you get discounts for you get a discount in the gift shop um you know some uh membership opportunities for people coming into town for visiting um different things like that um we also have a junior members program for for kids we have uh their own individual uh newsletter as well as programs throughout the year and do you have a speaker series coming up we do have a speaker sering series coming up and all of those speakers will be linked in some way to our exhibition so we're doing things a little bit differently uh and you'll start to hear more about that coming soon all right can you say what month uh this will be in the speaker series it uh it starts in may may all right yep all right well Darren Baker the uh new director of The Rock County Historic Society new as of last summer MH at last July all right L to see and do here you bet thank you so much thank you
