yes that was Barry Swain here for football live with association with Sam escap he's running on to his own ball strike there but uh great strength from from F long to to Usher it out for a for a goal [Music] kick and Palmer will clear downfield Lon Cann with roow so listen you know he's absolutely deadly and I'm expecting West Ham today against Aston Villa to be a really decent game of football you had to bring that up didn't you unbelievable enjoy the game today go on the Villa Ian Abrahams there I'll bring you updates on to they're getting ready to celebrate around St James's Park safe for those Southampton fans up in the other way in there goes the full-time whistle and the 10 men of Newcastle United have prevailed they had to play a madl for an hour against newly promoted Southampton but Joe linton's goal not long after the red card issued to Fabian Sher in that first half separates the side and Eddie how has won all three of his opening Premier League matches as Newcastle United manager Newcastle haven't done that under a manager since the mid 1980s it was nervy it was far from pretty but pretty effective that said Southampton had numerous corners and lacked The Cutting Edge that you sense they're going to need at this Elite level to really hold their own questions for how much they supplement their squad before the end of the window but Newcastle United have three precious points to kick off their campaign the 10 men didn't matter in the end they got over the line fulltime score at St James's Park Newcastle United one Southampton nil wow what a pulsating game with just one goal but so much drama in it Mickey Gray and Southampton are going to be absolutely kicking themselves but this is what Premier League pedigree brings you the chance and the ability to be able to dig in and stick in an ugly game and get all three points as Newcastle have what an opportunity for Southampton that they've let slip F I have to say that because again in that first half they looked excellent but it's was just in that final third well we questioned have they got the quality to see our Premier League quality well from what I've Just Seen there for 9095 minutes no they haven't Adam Armstrong had a what a hat full of opportunities Brett and Diaz should have put the ball in the back of the net and Newcastle they got that Lifeline didn't they just before halftime and they hung on to it in the second half and I don't think Southampton asked enough questions in the second 45 minutes I really don't so yes I think there's got to be questions with the manager the way he wants them to play off the back he has to take sole responsibility for Alex McCarthy giving that ball away cuz any other goalkeeper just clears his lines so it's down to him not the player or not the goalkeeper but great opportunity missed for the away side but a huge huge three points for Newcastle yeah they would have had heads up for sure going in at halime uh goalless after that first half performance I mean they had their chances in the second half to to to punish Newcastle and the 10 men that they were playing with but as you say they just didn't do it from a Newcastle point of view even with 10 players they was still they were just disjointed maybe I think is is a good way of saying it and although Alexander isach set up that uh goal for Joe Linton at the end of the second half he maybe didn't put in one of the best performances we've seen no he wasn't really at the racist fa was he I've got to be completely honest with you and you know we built him up before the game because he's a player that you know you want to buy a ticket you want to come and see him he's just got something a little bit different there was there was glimpses of it a little flicks around the corner and how clever he tries to be at times but I it'll come in the next 2 or 3 weeks it does take time to get up to a speed 100% but you can see the signs from Newcastle the work ethic was there for everybody to see certainly in the second half where they had to defend for their lives at times Dan bur I thought was out standing um Lewis Hall at times giving sloppy balls away that's something he's got to try and brush out of his game good test for Liv rento over on that left on that right hand side against the doy in the second half but it's all about hanging on and that's all they had to do they were never going to get huge amounts of opportunities in the second 45 minutes it was about hanging on to what they had they got themselves that goal and they've done that which will please eddh how and also the clean sheet yeah really important the clean sheet additionally they go to his former side Bournemouth uh next Sunday at 2:00 Newcastle so they'll be hoping to build on this performance Southampton though an opportunity perhaps if you think on paper this is where the table's going to go doors play nosan Forest who have just conceded a late goal to bourou actually in their first game of the season and Southampton will be at St Mary for for that match bit of confidence perhaps after this performance well fa look it's not a time to panic is it um for any side but I do think when you look at teams who you think might be around you come the end of the season where we probably think that Southampton and Nottingham for us maybe are going to be it's a big opportunity isn't it for both sides Nottingham Forest have got themselves it looks like they're going to get themselves a point from their first day of the Season whereas Southampton are now thinking right you know let's just get something on the board ourselves you know they've got them at home the way that they play they're going to frustrate Nottingham for us but them being the away side they can just sitting and try and soak up the pressure a little bit like Newcastle have done today to be honest with you but I still think that final third is something that um Russell Martin has got a look at whether it's Armstrong burrett and Diaz or even the players that came off the bench with archer who I thought looked really Lively in that second half he's the manager who's got to come up with the answers but your goalkeeper giving the ball away not down to him that's all down to the manager yeah I'm sure we'll hear from Russell Martin throughout uh the day on The Talk Sport Network and get his thoughts on that still playing at the city grounds by the way nosing ham Forest won Bournemouth won closing stages of that one Arsenal beat wolves by two goals to Neil Kai hav and Mao saaka on the on the score sheet Everton had young sent off late on in their game well after an hour anyway Brighton scored three uh past them to win their opening game of the season uh West Ham Aston Villa kicks off at 5:30 and earlier on the 12:30 kickoff at talksport it finished ips switch nil Liverpool 2 in Anna slot's first game in charge of Liverpool but it is time for us to pick our man of the match at St james' park with Enterprise rental car man of the match on talk sport 2 with Enterprise Renta car Enterprise has Vans of all shapes and sizes so if you've got a plan we've got a van if you say Ben Brett and Diaz as man of the match I will boo you like the Newcastle players have booed him the entire game who are you going for Mickey well I'd like to get out of this ground in one piece if I could face so it won't be benen Bren burrett and Diaz I'm going for Joe Linton um he took his goal really well but I just thought his overall performance his energy levels helping out defensive and he was causing a threat in the opposition's half as well I thought he showed everything that needed to be showed in a Newcastle shirt today so Joe Linton is my player of the match yeah so wig will line up with J field at fullback Abby SMY Zack Eckersley J Ward and Liam Mar and Adam Kum will play in the standoff Ro and he will play partner Jack Faron who's in for the injury suspended Smith up front it's Havard Leeming and Thompson nember and Walters in as Farrell was injured in the warm-up Kid Ellis at loose forward a bench of burn the PRI may go and forit Saints lots of changes for Saint Helens Robertson at fullback making some making his 300th appearance wagger Blake Joe Bachelor play center and T riten Ben Davis at six Moses and by at seven Delany Bell and Lees Whitley ser and pzy a bench of Warmsley Burns Vaughn and Stevens It's Wigan on the attack now round about the halfway line is a pass to misy and referee says it's a cross in and he's got he's got Sam Walters going into the line and he impedes mosses him by here I'm not sure about it let's have a look six1 isn't it he's running to his outside shoulder not really see any continuity Paul have we in the opening 10 minutes no score live on talk sport 2 it's not been a great start game one comprehensive win for London over over Hull FC and probably left a couple of tries out there as well C it's it's is a disgraceful performance from a whole FC team as I've seen in many many years um summed up at the end of the game when London get a penalty and H and SCA he's already off the field and in the shower when London take a tap and kick the ball to touch it was FAL wasn't it in a shambles yeah it wasn't great as I said London probably left a couple of tries out there but let's concentrate on this one as Le finds Davis further wide to Robertson but out of the line comes Wardle and wraps him up ball and all 30 m away from the line Davis to Delany delane's hit hard by Havard over the top comes Kade Ellis center of the field Lees to parzy pzy towards the 20 put down a couple of meters short of that 20 M line Bells at dummy half to Moses Zay goes down that left hand side and inside pass to the center on that Far Side Bachelor and he's playing the ball to the corner little kick into the Eng gold wanting it to go dead he's J field did he play at it the referee going to say penalty for offside and Wigan yeah the kick back on the inside J field does play out it but the players on the inside of that offside and referee's got it absolutely spot on yeah they kick to touch that's Vaughn on that far side as well Paul isn't it so John baughn on number 30 isn't it yeah not sure whether we lost haven't weer in the gone into the back R yeah lots and lots of change for Saints yeah be a big test won't they you know Wigan have got some missing too with suspensions Harry Smith of course with that that ban but wiggan look the two the stronger of the sides on paper as nember is tackled just short of halfway Havard will cross that halfway line just outside the center circle as the football mark is still on the pitch here at Helen Road as Ellis finds fond who goes wide finds field field hits that accelerator but can't break the line and Vaughn makes the tackle it's Wiggins turn to be 30 m away from Saints line
