when James Stewart arrived in Iraq before the war started he was given strict orders I was told by the theater commands on major that you and now in charge fix this base my question to him was what needs to be fixed he stated to me if I knew that then I wouldn't need you to fix it 30 000 soldiers are signed that was an awesome task Command Sergeant Stewart then proceeded to prepare those soldiers for war having served 34 years in the Army Reserve has gotten Stewart plenty of awards over the years but none as special as the Legion of Merit the Legion of Merit is something that I've always hoped that I could achieve about only about 40 percent of the command sergeant majors as serving today received that award so I'm very proud of it in fact Stewart says it's the highest peacetime award a soldier can receive a Calcasieu sheriff's deputy for over 25 years this Gulf War veteran is a firm believer in military life the military to pass you for civilian life if you're in the reserve component I act component if you take on a job anywhere it's basically the same the organizations are set up the same with the skills that you learn in the military you can Excel the civilian life with it James Stewart this week's KPLC billing of our hometown Patriot At Your Service in Lake Charles John Bridges KPLC 7 News
