Back in 1997 Chumbawamba released its hit song. Tub thumping that goes, I get knocked down but I get up again. You're never gonna keep me down. Great song. You get the point. Those words were originally written about the resiliency of ordinary people. But if it's absolutely perfectly with one Western Michigan football player who's gotten knocked down several times and he just keeps getting up again. Michigan linebacker Demari Roberson's time in college football is coming to an end. It's bittersweet to know. This is my last ride. His ride has been anything but smooth. It's a stepping stone for me just knowing like I made it through everything I made it through. He has been through a lot. Roberson was supposed to sign with Northwestern out of Mona Shores High School. But then he tore his left AC L twice. He decided to go to Western where in Kalamazoo, his luck did not get any better. He tore his right ac three ac tears, three ac surgeries, but that did not stop him. I just went with my gut. My gut is telling me that I can do this. Get back on the horse then nearly five years later, Roberson was back on the field as he played on the defensive side of the ball in the 2022 season opener at Michigan State. I go through a lot of emotion sometimes just thinking about it when I do reminisce about it, but I'm, I'm just happy that I'm blessed to still be out here and still be able to play the game that I love to do. That love for the game. Radiates throughout the Broncos locker room. Deri's grit resilience. I mean, he's probably one of the most respected players on our team, uh loved by his teammates because of how he carries himself, how he handles himself every day and how he works. His work ethic is second to none. You can't question my work because I, I'll, I'll, I'll work you any day. We can go, we can go test it out any day. Broncos head coach Lance Taylor values that mentality from the Red Shirt senior. He is really taking that next step in terms of leadership and feeling like he's one of the captains of our defense right now and our team, Roberson has earned that praise and after everything he has been through, he will never take anything for granted ever again. Never give up on your dreams. If you feel like if it's important to you and it's something you really want to do, you'll do anything just to get it done. Robson still has one last spring game at Western before his final fall of football in Kalamazoo. The Broncos have their spring showcase on Saturday at Waldo Stadium kick off is set for 2 p.m.
