what happened to the sunisa brothers where did they go at the end of the film in this video we take a look at the mysterious twins who ran a book restoration shop will chew on a few theories taken from both the movie and its script with elements that did not make it to film fair warning though it will come with spoilers mind-blowing spoilers i suggest that you watch the nine gates once maybe twice before learning what i'm about to reveal here alright let's get started the ninth gate directed by roman polanski was released in 1999 and loosely based on the novel the club dumas written by arturo perez riverti this is what the film told us through the eyes of dean corso who traveled to toledo to get some background on his balkan copy of the nine gates of the kingdom of shadows corso approached the store through an alleyway flanked by abandoned scaffolding he bumped into a boy who runs out in front of the store inside corso meets pablo and pedro ceniza they're obviously twins who finished each other's sentences but the film went out of its way to show one interesting difference one takes a cigarette while the other doesn't particularly care for it or the smoke after a conversation about forgeries and riddles corso exited the shop the same way he came in he barely escaped the danger from above as a scaffolding falls apart without a single other witness the film gives a subtle hint that angels with mustaches will attack from above on wayfarers who travel too far or come too close to answering the riddle at the end of the film corso returned to the shop he took the same alleyway but it was without its scaffolding and exposed a bare wall there was a truck outside with a pile of furniture and equipment corso saw the shop being taken apart nearly everything removed by a pair of workers corso asked what happened to the brothers one of the workmen simply shrugged the shoulders before the final engraving fell at his feet what conclusions can we make with clues given to us we know the sunnista brothers sold the book to telfer years ago and kept the ninth engraving to themselves they were visual clues during corso's initial interview that their brothers were responsible for forging the sheet however the brothers learned that the book was sold to balkan one of them says the following mr balkan is a celebrated collector he is no fool he must know this book is authentic let's pick apart the last sentence he must know this book as authentic at first the brothers are paying respect to balkan and his knowledge they presumed balkan wouldn't have purchased a book if it was a fake now let's interpret it another way a way that's cynical and frightening he must know the book as authentic or else we're dead says the brother the brothers showed surprise if not humility of the book's destiny to end up in balkans hands only to have their forgery dropped in front of their eyes reminding them of their deception they might not have known what had happened to kessler or vargas but they would have feared for their lives if they knew what sort of man boris balkan was with what the film told me my theory is that they went into hiding by the dust on the original engraving it was left untouched perhaps forgotten and better left behind let's compare the film to the script first corso's approached by the alleyway the scaffolding and the boy outside are in the script as well as their brothers being twins as described as thinking as one even the part of pedro ceniza taking a cigarette and ripping the filter is faithful pedro was described as a chainsmoker as we saw in one quick glimpse of his ashtray what is not in the script and may have been improvised is pablo's reaction to the smoke this is one very subtle clue seen in the film that the twins have differences but roman polanski did other clever ways to play with their minds the roles of pablo and pedro ceniza were played by the same actor jose lopez rodero using a motion capture rig however it's been reported that roman polanski dubbed pedro's voice what clues did he leave behind this is where i describe the twins more like doppelgangers doppelgangers take the form of another they are a look-alike near copies with differences and harbingers of bad luck this is how the script describes corso as he sees both pablo and pedro ceniza together corso hesitates briefly taken aback by this dual apparition pedro and pablo look him up and down with their keen twinkling little eyes their movements are slow and serene their expression carries a hint of mockery and they often exchange knowing smiles they're so in sync that they communicate by the means of glances and finish off each other's sentences the interesting words here were dual apparition hinting something supernatural about the two while did not mention different voices the film's dialogue was faithful to the script as did corso's escape from the falling scaffolding but polanski deviated from the script having chosen the engraving of the angel with a strange mustache to tie the collapsing scaffolding with a visit to the sinister brothers was it a strange coincidence or polanski's attempt to throw in a spooky supernatural element what more can we learn from the script about the ending it reads corso around the corner and heads down the deserted alleyway no scaffolding just sand blasted walls and freshly painted window frames and grills he reaches the doorway leading to the inner courtyard hears a woman's strident cries bumps into the boy who comes running out as before the film does display a clean wall its newly refurbished state isn't that self-evident unless you look at the opposite side furthermore the script does not mention the truck or furniture outside signaling a change inside the film also ignores the second appearance by the little boy who was supposed to run out in front of corso as he did the first time perhaps because the furniture outside was taking too much space the scene inside the shop has many differences between the film and the script while the script mentioned two spanish workmen inside it never mentioned they were twins polanski would not be finished with his cryptic messages you see these two characters they're played by the same actor and if you haven't guessed it was jose lopez rodero again that's right one actor plays four characters two sets of twins or otherwise described a pair of a pair the film has the twins dressed differently one smoked the other did not this is the closest the film would associate the sunisa brothers with the supernatural but the script took it one step further before we reveal the mysterious disappearance of the sunisa brothers like share or subscribe if you enjoy this video and want to see more content like this one the script reads the following when one of the workmen explained what happened to the sineesis corso where are the sinister brothers the first workmen the sinesis they're dead second workmen ah they did many years corso more and more puzzled but they were here not long ago i spoke with them the second workman looks as colleague shrugs and chuckles as if to convey that course was crazy like most foreigners the script's choice to describe the twins as apparitions is understood the little boy outside represented deja vu a blip in time inside corso had walked into an abandoned shop and had spoken with ghosts we now know what happened to the sinister brothers they were never there they were dead this is mr g of synergy saying mind the dust on top of old bookshelves check out other videos on the channel thanks for watching
