Tennessee Football HAMMERS N.C. State: Instant reaction from Vols' win

subscribe button let's get rolling now fill up the chat board I want to get your thoughts on I could argue Tennessee's most impressive win under Josh hypo because this wasn't about offense and it's happened before a couple of times this was about defense but this defense unlike in the other victories they've helped prod the defense was absolutely dominant and I don't think there's any question about that so go ahead and hit that like button now Caleb Calhoun uh I joined by him and we will get to the report guard the turning points of the game and a lot to the game tonight I'll go ahead and take a look early at The Message Board to see who's on there Brandon welcome hit that like And subscribe button and and we'll get Caleb here in just one moment but Tennessee a winner and why I think this game is so impressive is because I don't think niia malava played near his best game he had a bit of an errant throw that ended up as an interception and then an ni had a ball tip probably could have tucked that one he was hit just as he threw and next thing you know Nico is has two interceptions on the night but the last one obvious obviously not all of his fault so let's bring Caleb in here as H Caleb let's get your thoughts as I I could argue this was one of Tennessee's most impressive wins under Josh hyp because this defense has won some games before for hypo but in this particular case it was a dominant defensive performance that won a game for Hyo yeah this was incredible um I got to be honest the this microphone got a little microphone problem I don't know what's going on with that if there's anything you adjust with that but go ahead now everybody good we all good got you now go right ahead got you go perfect sorry about that guy some technical difficulties loing in okay but yes this was incredible the defense was the story of the game they had two fourth down stops forced three turnovers on the night I don't think think and you can correct me on this David did they even allow a first down in the second half because I'm not so sure they did and this was an absolute master class and by the way going into this game you know whatever you want to say about NC State they are kind of the blue collar team of the ACC they kind of Pride themselves on that and there was this idea that Tennessee is the Finesse team and out of the blue Tennessee was the dominant team from the blue collar standpoint they dominated The Trenches on both sides of the ball but particularly on the defensive front and we talk about this a lot you know you question is the secondary better this year or is it not ideally you don't want to have you don't want your secondary to ever have the opportunity to show whether or not they're good because you want to be so dominant up front and that's exactly what the defense did in this game and I mean yeah it's it's a it's a if you just look at the score and see 51 to 10 you think oh typical Josh hyle typical Tennessee team but then you go watch the game and you're like oh my gosh I mean n Tennessee looked like Tennessee won the way Georgia wins games in this situation in in some ways yes um I still think Tennessee defensively does some different things to take advantage of speed where Georgia I still think is a little Notch up in in talent wise so I see what you're saying there um this is a a game that when we look back at Nico's best and worst games this might be one of his worst games statistically uh even though he ended up playing I will get to your grade in a little bit but I think above average for the night I think that he he was off a little bit he not only thre the interception when he aired out that ball over the middle he also missed the little out route to squirrel white that would have been a first down in the Red Zone may have even been a touchdown so I don't think his accuracy was particularly on everybody has an off night but able to offset that with the ability to for Tennessee's ability to run the game and then his ability to run and read runs as he did on the uh fake handoff and I I think that he has that confidence and that calm to overcome a game where some red CH freshman after throwing two balls that were just off Target might have just been ug uh and not played well the rest of the game that wasn't the case he threw a couple of Dy in the final three quarters Nico IM alava completed 69% of his passes averaged over nine yards in attempt um had 276 total yards of offense and three total touchdowns against a ranked team at a neutral site and we're saying he had an off day right I mean and I wrote that in my column I said if that's his worst game then he then Tennessee is going to play for a championship and um so it's kind of all about n I think that's been the focus in the offseason but tonight drives home what Josh H higho continually said and we joked about how he walked it back a little bit maybe in the first week against Chattanooga but this is Tennessee's deepest best roster and I don't think there's any question about that now hit like And subscribe we're going to get to the comments I mean there's no I don't even believe there's a debate for that now you this is by far the deepest team that Tennessee's had and the comparison was made by Jimmy Hees and I think he himself would have said it was a conservative approach but comparing them to the 2022 team I think this te's much much deeper significantly so and I mean just look at again and it always shows first in the trenches and the defensive line and I mean Tennessee's got look we got to start talking about this they got one they made they got a top five defensive line or defensive front in college football and I'll go so far as to say based off all the football football I have watched and you might notice I never made this claim last week because it was Chattanooga and I hadn't seen enough football I I didn't totally believe in Notre Dame for instance I was right on that I think this is a top five football team based off my eye based off my eye and sometimes try sometimes it's it's wrong but this looks like a top five football team to me oh absolutely I mean we're talking about the offense struggled to get in Rhythm early and they went and dominated and won this game 51 to1 I mean this is and and and you know my Turning Point as we're going to get to was the pick six towards the end of the first half but that's where the difference is with this team and previous teams of Josh Hall the offense is there the passing is there but it was the defense that made the play to get the going for Tennessee in this game and they took advantage of a break and that's where depth does come in and look guys this is this team isn't just the deepest team Josh Hy's had this is Tennessee football's deep deepest team since since the peak Fulmer years I'm not saying now I won't go to say as far as to say they're as deep as they were back then like they're not where they were in the peak Fulmer years but they're deeper than they have been in the post Peak former years I Dave the last team this deep I would say was 2001 and that's the last defensive line I've seen that this that was this good I go ahead yeah I haven't seen anything even close I mean they barely had the Blitz in the second half Tim Banks did dial up some brilliant Blitz schemes in the first half but they didn't do much of that in the second half at all my new favorite player to watch on this team because I'll go ahead and tell you I'm GNA write about Nico as most of you know most weeks and to some extent what he does because that's what everybody cares about and I understand understand that but if you ask me who I would pay a ticket to go who I would pay for a ticket to go watch he plays middle linebackers names Keenan Billy I mean that guy plays with just Relentless effort and he's way more explosive than I ever dreamed so shout out to Keenan Philly more shout outs if you want to put them on the three total tackles two of which Soo keen and pey was obviously great too um I'm I I should be the one that we've already talked about niiko alava I should be the one to do this because everybody knows how much I've railed on him so I I do have to give Dylan Samson a shout out and it has to be me and and I'm the one who has to own this because Dylan Samson is a playmaker and he's way more physical than I thought I mean he was it wasn't he wasn't just Shifty and out running guys he was shedding tackles left and right and I'll give I'll give a shout out to our own Stacy Oliver who wrote a column that ran Saturday morning comparing um and that was from quotes from Cooper Mae about how I think the guy looks like Marshall faul I didn't realize that Cooper Maz is too young to remember who Marshall Faulk is but it was a funny exchange nonetheless Caleb and I don't think pass pro has been an issue at least that we've seen and that's something that you and I both had concerns about in the offseason no it was it was and um I haven't seen any issues with it and the thing was I thought maybe it was because he wasn't physical but like I have to back off he's physical I mean he doesn't run from contact for a back of his ability um the first touchdown Drive Tennessee had Dave remember that shovel pass to Samson yeah he had speed but he did shed two tackles getting that first down right there on that third and 15 that wasn't Samson last last last year guys I I told you I'm not skip bis over here okay I don't sit there and try to Triple quadruple or like you know LeBron wins four rings and I still say he's not clutch you know what I mean the way skip bis is like no I I react to what I see and yeah I can honestly say I had no faith in Dylan Samson and look to this point I've been wrong now I'm not going to fully say I was wrong because there's SEC play to start we still need Oklahoma and we still need to see what he does in that realm but in a good real test for him with Inc State yeah he was very very very very physical and he embraced the contact uh all time we appreciate the cash drop loving the D he says and now a couple of different he Nows for another guy that we both owe a semi apology to and that would be uh will Brooks will Brooks with the 85 yard touchdown and uh I don't think there's any question that he's going to be a part of Tennessee's plans um he's probably not the most athletic guy out there but I think that they feel comfortable comfortable with him as kind of the catchall um not that he not that he necessarily plays free safety every time but I don't think he's gonna let people behind him um as best as he can handle that um so will Brooks with a a monstrous play and almost had two interceptions uh if a ball had have been tipped a little bit more he may have picked off another one yeah and I mean to will Brook's credit I mean I give him credit for being where he was but they let's be Hest had interception that was all J Joseph's I mean getting right there in Grayson McCall's face and Grayson McCall did I mean this is rule number one of quarterbacking don't try to float a ball over an edge rusher in your face because it's gonna it's always gonna sail too far at that point and um I I can't believe a seventh year quarterback made that mistake but he did he tried to make it and will Brooks was right there took it to the house and again I told you that's my turning point of the game that was the key moment of the game Dave because let's be honest when you were watching and will Brook and NC State was driving right there you thought you had already seen enough and I had two to say wow this Tennessee team is way better but let's we all know that everybody probably thought in the back of their head oh here goes another pit game where Tennessee is going to play so much better but they're gonna have to sweat out the win somebody here may have been riding that sort of column but he chucked it what's the pick six I've been have changed yeah I start I started about six columns uh the one that finally went up obviously was about Tennessee's defense is that played out I actually thought I didn't know if they'd sweat it out or not I guess I thought they would but I thought it was going to be a football game definitely at that point it did not feel like it was going to be one side of the fair the will Brooks interception just I mean call that the will Brooks game it deflated completely NC State which shows you what a difference Dave Dorne is and Josh hyle and how blessed Tennessee fans are not to have Dave Doran I mean h the the offensive tackle can't let line up on the line I no matter what they do that team I thought was Co just a just a very average coaching job I thought nothing really special and they had the one gimmick play where they split up the offensive line and I think that's why bu Carter found the bench after that because he was lost and what did I tell you last week it was going to be a challenge for buo um I will also mention I was really high on Samson I didn't get my special teams touch down I did think that the defense um would dominate I thought it would be more James Pierce uh I'm trying to remember my other projection what was that do you remember that Caleb scrw White going over 100 yards how did he do he had 67 yards and this is where again I'm saying he had a down I'm saying he had a down he was you have to give me credit he was the focal point on a lot of plays correct oh he was he was and here's the thing he should have had over 100 yards and this is what we're going to have to knock Nik here you missed you talked about him missing score right on the out route the overthrow of the interception Davey also overthrew Brew McCoy on the first strike for a clear touchdown pass I don't know if you remember that he overshot him and then that deep pass he had to squirrel white that squirrel white caught that should have been a touchdown but SC White had to like stretch out to catch it and fell over after he caught it but it should have been a touchdown and stride but n overshot that just a little bit again not the biggest deal wasn't Joe Milton lever overshoots okay and so it's it's not like we're it's it's anything worth freaking out over but it was it did highlight that he had a bit of an off game and again still had 279 yards of total offense and three total touchdowns that last interception I don't hold against him that was John Campbell's fault that was 100% John Campbell's fault and John Campbell um if Nico loses out on the Heisman because he just had that one extra interception at the end of the year John Campbell should take all the blame ouch make him run the stairs um we both think that Josh hyp is innovative right but we say Innovative with his offense what if Josh Hy's smart enough to be Innovative with his plan on defense and I've thought for a long time with all these offenses that there is always a cycle just like the three four to the 4-3 the 43 that you will eventually see defenses come around now I don't know because of the rules that they ever going to get big and push people around but what if a deep quick defense of course everybody wants one but you put that premium there uh what if that's how he's Innovative a quick 30 seconds from our good friends at Campbell Cunningham Taylor and H we get to four downs your Turning Point Caleb was the will Brooks pick six that was a tough one to top for sure yeah most important play of the game again turned it from what could have been a sweat it out pit style 2022 game to just an allout blowout and if if anybody has questions about whether or not this team is better than the 2022 team now just look at this game because this was their pit game and look at just how much more dominant they were yeah I'm I I think this team is I think it's considerably better than the 20 2012 with the exception of we know what Tennessee got at quarterback I think we're going to get great play out of Nico but we don't 100% know that and the errant throw does make me a 1% out of a 100 concern but not a big deal I think that but H hooker missed on some of those Aaron throws too remember you're absolutely right you're ABS I'm talking about the most minuscule uh of of concern um going through to see who else needs a shout out uh before we get to four downs uh definitely Steve says I like Nico didn't play a great game and we won Big Time against a ranked team think about the three of those things if I have told you uh let's say three years ago that Tennessee would be to rank team not at home and beat them thoroughly and they would have the star quarter star Young quarterback in the nation and he would just play okay you'd probably be okay with start with those right now as uh my column I just saw popped up uh about the defense but the takeaways let's get to those five takeaways now you start with defense can win Tennessee football game games I don't think there's any doubt about that as a matter of fact based off what I've seen I don't think there is an elite elite offense in the nation let's say like Tennessee was two years ago or some of the great offenses that we've seen I don't think there's one of those in the SEC Georgia may prove to that they beat people ugly but I don't know that there's a team out there if Tennessee plays its best they won't be in and possibly win that football game yeah I I I I agree um I think because of this defense Tennessee can really compete with anybody now and that's a huge Edge that they didn't have two years ago and the you know the first time we ever saw this was Texas A&M last year but we all kind of held off because we're like H Texas A&M are struggling they're kind of Jimbo Fisher they're kind of quitting on the team so we didn't know if they could do this this year and the defense I haven't seen a hypo team I've seen hypo win plenty of blowouts not on where the defense turned it into a blowout and they did it in this game guys I I want to send a shout out to Dave before we you know I'm not just not just because he's my co because I'm his co-host and we work together but um Dave two years ago right after the South Carolina game before we knew about the Conor stallion stealing the signs um wrote a column telling every Tennessee fan y'all need to chill out on wanting to fire Tim Banks because you don't know what you have and you don't know what would happen to this defense if you got rid of Tim Banks how many of y'all still want Tim Banks going on because he is I I think he's one of the best defensive coordinators in the country I'm just going to be honest I think there's a reason they went and got William in I was thinking about that today I wouldn't be surprised if Tim Banks as a head coach next year somewhere I agree I agree I mean this inch has a lot of experience he could step into that role you're right that's a great Point that's a great point I mean Tim Binks has he has been a team player that has been complimentary to hypo's offense and now he's got a defense that can win games for hyp and the team is not even built to do that that's incredible y I agree and I it's in some ways it's as Innovative as his as Tennessee's offense because you just don't get the same look over and over I mean the fact that a guy like James Pierce you're willing to take the risk to drop him into pass coverage because you feel so good about your defensive line I mean most coaches don't have the guts to do that and even though he gave me a hard time at media day a couple weeks ago I still think he's a great coach so I know you're watching and I appreciate that uh and it's Tander Tander not not telander all right he he pointed that out all right uh what down is next that' be second right C Cooper ma here second down all right uh CP um that leads us to what Caleb coun um The Run game dominated the day the Run game carried the offense and Hy's Run game always carries the offense but it was even bigger in this one I mean Dylan Samson had 20 Carri for 132 yards Deshawn Bishop was effective um that's another one I might need to I might need to back off of talking about Deshawn Bishop because he was playing very well um and n y malava huge part of the Run game I mean you know he's supposed to be he's not supposed to be like hinden hooker or Joe Milton or particularly hinded hooker because Joe Milton didn't run when he should have he's a dropback passer who is mobile and can run but if he had 65 yards rushing and a 31 yard touchdown I mean he's a really good runner and he's not afraid to do it either and that's a big huge Plus for Tennessee now and they do it at the right times I don't like seeing him get hit more than three or four times a game is that fair no I I agree I totally agree I don't either but you have to remember this it's a little skewed two of Nico imal Ava's three games as a starter so far have been against 335 defenses he's not gonna be seeing those all year or you know that that that those are Rarities and he's just happened to run against two of three of them poll poll question is up now Tennessee should be blank in the AP poll one through 5 six through 10 11 through 15 what down CP Tennessee Center Cooper ma here third down thank you CPE all right what's your next point you want to get to Caleb as I remind everybody that Cooper May says Cooper May here hit like And subscribe please share as well what do you got Caleb now remember we have five so we I still have three takeaways and only two more Downs so you're going to have to Colorado this um by Colorado and I just wouldn't show up I know right if maybe would be would be Dave in your picture boy that's you think Colorado could have been in this game if Dion got a fifth down every Drive I guarantee you thrown it that's true probably um all right so on uh for third down I'm going to say we already talked about this but niik malava is human that that that that's third down he's human found out um that's a very good way to put it it wasn't bad I mean if you got that if you got that the rest of the year you'd probably win Georgia might make you pay for the interception and settling for a fi goal in the Red Zone but other than them I think you probably win every game with a game like that I agree this is why I think he's perfectly happy and by the way anden hooker was just as sloppy against pit two years ago probably even more so now that I look back I mean it wasn't all on him what happened in that game but still so yeah no niavis human missed a couple of throws and we're still talking about that when he completed 69% of his passes had 276 yards of total offense and at three total touchdowns but yes he's human all right here we go and then we're going to break down the top 10 and I'm tell you where I think Tennessee should be ranked but actually wait let's stick on third down real quick because I'm justas for all right uh what's the next CP Tennessee third okay Cooper May here second down all right wait no you were right you had it on third down I was saying don't go to fourth down oh okay so sorry coer maze here third down we're staying on third down sorry my OCD is kicking in I apologize Dave I'm screwing you over badly but um I would with since we're talking Nico I think on the same down we should talk a bit about the what was part of the passing game which was the tight ends were the stars and um Ethan Davis we knew about him but mil skitman and hold stays are there too and Tennessee can go truly three deep at tight end now hey I true and I want to explain something to people real quick that aren't around the business as much so these TV guys they they they want to know a little bit more than your Your Daily Reporter guys so they'll find out what the daily reporters guys have but then they have their own uh like with the network they have their own meeting with Josh hpel and there's always one insightful quote drop during a game if you listen closely and he and the one was that I haven't heard Josh Hy will say publicly and sounded a little bit boastful and not like him but Kirk herbstreet said we have a good set of tight ends we're really tough to beat that was what Josh H hypo told him so while you and I think the problem problems last year were basically about Joe Milton now other people they want to blame Joe Joey Holley and all this maybe Tennessee didn't have as good a tight ends as we thought they did last year they didn't well or they do this year maybe that's a better way to put it yeah they have rare rare rare athletes at tight end this year they were good they were fine a tit they had mcllin castles and Jacob Warren last year that's exactly what they needed that was as good as Princeton Fant and Jacob Warren it's I think they have rare athletes this year I look it's it's still coming down to Nico but they still have more op Ethan Davis I think is a rare rare breed at tight end all right so are we going to fourth down yeah we'll go to fourth down here all CC Center Cooper May here fourth down all right what do you got gotta clean up the penalties seven penalties 70 yards you can't have that and they you had John Campbell get very chippy after a play um and then you had Keenan peely but that was a little late but like that was a little late in the game to be fair but you also had a beautiful touchdown pass by ni waved off because of an eligible receiver downfield and I know there's a downfield blocking I know they don't call that that was a bad call in the NFL that's a good call in college football you get three yards he was not close that was a bad call yeah but what do you and I'm want I'm G to differ with you on this I like the fiery penalties I don't have a pro now they can't go overboard you don't want to be Miami of the you know 1980s but I I I'm G to differ with you on this I I thought they they played a clean game in terms of no fundamental errors you would give them that right yeah yes and actually that's was better than last week where they did have a few fundamental errors but I I didn't like the Campbell penalty that wasn't early in the game and they're they're trying to get their first touchdown drive and you don't want to kill a drive in that moment with a penalty like that that's that was my issue with it um you're right Heely you want to set a tone do it but Campbell doing that because you don't want to block somebody all the way out of bounds and then draw a penalty and chove him and if it wasn't for a late hit on Nico that should have also been caught I first thought that penalty was Campbell was fighting on behalf of Nico because I thought Nico got hit laid out of bounds and that should have been called I thought he did too but yeah but they didn't call it and I then I went and looked at the replay and Campbell didn't even see that so he just started a fight just to start a fight I'm like you're driving you don't I get it what you say on defense daeve maybe so but you don't want to kill drives on offense like that I kind of agree thank you hodad uh Hoge head I do appreciate that that's very too nice uh you said I may be too old school but I didn't like Nico being in that last series or trying that field goal hey I'll tell you what I'll I'll roll with both of those um in particular the uh Nico being in there a little bit late uh the late fi goal did you think that was too late you're kind of in a weird position are you supposed to punt it or go for it or what are you supposed to do no I think you this is a thing they were go they were just running their offense with their backups in and I I I've never had a problem with that and you got a freshman on I my you got a red shirt freshman kicker who is actually proven himself to be very good by the way but one of my keys that I took out because of just that misfield goal at the end was special teams was almost perfect and Tennessee may have the best special teams in the nation by the way as as a conglomerate because Max G was really really good um but I don't mind that I don't mind running your offense if you put the backups in I didn't mind having Nico in late but that's just because I had money on Tennessee hitting the over so I really needed that touchdown I really needed that thank you Josh Hy I love you I should Josh H makes way more than me and I should still buy him some dinner tonight there you go sounds like he uh he had a good one so I want to um what else do we want to get I want to get to uh my predictions because I'm going to be real forthright and honest with you uh and I'm going to tell you what I thought would happen in the game was I right or was I wrong so uh if you could pull those up that would probably help me because I got a lot of things open here as I want to go through some of uh Tennessee's final stats as well so do you have that Handy by chance Caleb uh trying to pull it up right now your bull predictions uh from the game um let's see because there was one I almost got and you would have been blown away um but uh as as he pulls that up let's take a look at uh again uh Tennessee wins Big over NC State and it it was a weird game guys and I want to ask you were you surprised by NC State's social media reaction and shots throughout the week did you notice how this kind of started as just another game against two good teams and by the end it felt like there was some sort of rivalry or something did you notice that yeah they were like they were just wishing that they didn't like being a top 25 team in Tennessee fans in Tennessee Twitter and VA Twitter treating this as as if it was going to be a blowout I'm sorry NC State I know we knew how these two teams were matched up and look maybe possibly you could have made this a game and made it ugly like I don't I didn't see any any NC State fans thinking they were gonna win I just thought I saw a lot thinking that oh we can make this respectable we're not going to get blown out the way Tennessee thinks they're going to blow us out well you kind of did and maybe and I and the weird part is Dave and I don't know if you knew this but once that pick six happened to put Tennessee up 17 to3 I called it the turning point I was 100% certain that NC State had no shot now Tennessee should be blank in the AP poll one to 5 16% that would be my vote 6 to 10 82% 11- 15 3% um Caleb where would you have them uh you know I don't know so I have to go through the rankings now to look so can we go down the rankings and just see real quick um let's do it absolutely right now uh let's go through those but if you can real quick while I set up this poll question can you give me Tennessee's schedule as you mentioned it is very favorable because Oklahoma doesn't look like they're World beaters by any stretch to the imagination uh not just Oklahoma by the way you're right Oklahoma strugg for the record Houston lost to UNLV last week and Oklahoma struggled to put them away in a really ugly matchup the other big test for Tennessee before Georgia Alabama at home Dave Alabama was um up on South Florida 14- 13 entering the fourth quarter saw that game um then they kind of went off but I still maintain guys jayen moo is not a fit for this offense it's working right now it's gonna implode um and they're gonna have to go there's going to be a quarterback change at Alabama I think before the year's out guys if that's the case we know how bad Florida is Kentucky is no long I mean Kentucky is never a threat but they can you know they can make it a dog fight boy did I miss on that one did you see what South Carolina did to them yeah destroyed them it was Bizarro they have the worst offensive line I've ever seen their path protection is horri literally uh they gave up two strip sacks back to back I've never seen that before they recovered both of resume you're absolutely right they don't call me and ask what I think so let's uh where should Tennessee be ranked I ask you that question the poll question though you need to vote on that right now and you've got three choices Tennessee's greatest strength is skill position players that includes quarterback because Caleb and I have differed on that uh he he so his running back uh and receivers I I would include quarterback in that offensive line or defense uh say all that you kind of cut out for a minute D SK position players offensive line or defense Tennessee's greatest strength is oh it's still skill position players I think it's still skill position players 80% say defense 133% say skill position players prisoner of the moment defense is great but they skill position players if it include I mean like I'm with you in that moment it includes quarterback there's just no way you can say that like it's not skill position players um I mean I think it's defense so I I am going to say that but let me also say this are you concerned at all that Tennessee doesn't have maybe a deep deep threat I mean they got guys that can get downfield once they get the ball we saw that with Dante Thorton who just kind of disappeared um but Brew McCoy isn't like that exactly to me um I totally disagree with you on this they absolutely have deep threats Dante Thorton and squirrel white are deep threats okay well I haven't we haven't is that that's what I was going to ask you are you concerned about that or is that defense is dropping back that is they have played two three three5 defenses of three since Nico's been the starter dating back to the Citrus Bowl and defenses are dropping back and they don't want to give up those deep balls they've got deep threats it those are gonna come they had squirrel white for a clear touchdown that Nico kind of overshot so it ended up just being a had to stretch out for but they're going to those deep threats are going to be there okay so let's look at the let's start with where you think they'll be ranked where Tennessee will be ranked so let's look ahead of them pardon me the teams um that I would think that any AP voter would have to vote Tennessee above would be the following teams Notre Dame that are currently ahead of Tennessee that are currently ahead of Tennessee uh Notre Dame um as far as definitely Michigan uh who else oh Penn State the way they struggle with Bowling Green today there is no you could not be a serious person and not put Tennessee ahead of Penn State I'm fond with that who else um those are the three so that would be at 11 um I would say guys on the message board help me out today um was it Utah who struggled today I could be wrong with that but I believe Utah struggled they're ahead of Tennessee in the AP Pole right now um I'm pulling up yeah 20 23 to 12 over Baylor Baylor and Baylor's not a good team so yeah they should be ahead of Utah um which should put them in the top 10 they're ahead of USC Miami already in the coaches poll which would put them to number eight well we don't count the coaches poll because that's the sports information poll okay um they they should have been head of Oregon last week okay Oregon I don't I mean struggling with Idaho is just absolutely ridiculous that Oregon could stay ahead of anybody after that um but I think now with a quality win on their resume and look by the way Boise State's beating Oregon 20 to 14 right now in the third quarter so they might end up being ahead of Oregon there're I don't I'm calling it they should be head of organ period I think so too uh I'm gonna say 10 they should be 10 see I'm I'm I I'm I'm going like seven six um I Georgia Ohio State Texas if you're using okay if you're using this in the oldfashioned system I I may have missp I think they'll be 10 because the oldfashioned system is these guys don't want to spend two hours redoing their AP Top 25 every week right you just move them up yeah you should move them uping system I mean really week zero week one week two should be vastly different right because we don't we don't know what to pull off the Texas ADM Notre Dame game I don't know if they're both bad I don't know I don't know what to think so I really need another week to have a good feeli so it should be incredibly volatile until uh first month of the Season almost so do I think Tennessee should be about five yes when I look at the list of teams ahead of them right now I I I I believe there are four teams that are would realistically uh beat them and be the consensus pick Across the Nation at a uh let's say a neutral sight field and tell me if you can guess who those four are K there's four that Tennessee wouldn't be able to beat on a neutral sight field I think they would struggle to beat on a neutral sight field uh Georgia Ohio State Texas um those are the clear-cut three are are you going to say Alabama for the fourth because I might even debate you on Alabama I wasn't going to say Alabama uh I think they're fourth you think Tennessee's fourth I think they're the fourth I think right now they'll be ra they'll be voted at 10th and I think they're the fourth best team of what I've seen so far in the nation that could change drastically week to week all right I think they no I don't think it's crazy I'm but I'm breaking with you I think they're going to be like ninth or eth I think the voters maybe I'm a little higher on them but I think after seeing because it wasn't just that they beat INC State and Penn State struggle with Bowling Green or that they beat some lower level team they blew out a power five team that was ranked in the top 25 and Penn State struggled with a lower level team Oregon is struggling um Notre Dame lost Michigan lost there's absolutely no way you could seriously look at Tennessee right now and not think that they are at minimum number eight in this number eight in the country agre and so I I think and even based on based on this method the best analogy what you bring up the way the AP poll works it's actually like um a NASCAR race with the qualif after the qualifying results the team that starts in the front you have to catch up to them you know before you can pass them it's not it's not Vol that's not how you and I do it but that's how they do it right and I think that yeah Tennessee should be nine or eight but in terms of like power makings and playing yeah four I mean I I think they should be ahead of Old Miss Old Miss has beaten two group of high schools that doesn't count for anything for me same with Missouri who is number nine I I just I don't understand how you could it's got to carry some weight beating a power five school and beating them to this level this that's all I want to say beating them like this yeah and and almost with one hand tied behind your back because the passing game wasn't elite elite which was supposed to be it was still good um my dream SEC matchup that could happen 30 seconds last look there's more incentive to not play hard in the SEC title game and host the first round playoff game they would do it differently Josh hyper would do it of I'll run a vanilla offense and just throw it and if it works it works if it doesn't it doesn't but I'm not going to risk anything l k would straight up show up the SEC and rest his starters and may not even like show up for the you know Lane
