Wilson and I'm Allie Corey. Thanks for joining us tonight. There is some new information about a baby girl who was found dead on the university of Tampa campus last weekend. Yeah. According to court records, just released a student told police that she gave birth in the bathroom. Let's go to FOX 13's. Ariel Plasencia, who's live in our newsroom with more on this. Ariel, hate to hear this. What a heartbreaking story. Yeah, it really is, Mark. Police said they found the baby on Sunday, but we're learning the baby was actually born on campus on Saturday. A quick warning that some of our viewers may find the following details difficult to hear. The search warrant was filed Monday for a bathroom and dorm room in McKay Hall, and in the eight page document, investigators outline what the university of Tampa student said happened. The 19 year old mother didn't feel well Saturday morning. She also reported she didn't know she was pregnant, but, quote, may have been in denial. The student told investigators she gave birth in a shared bathroom in McKay Hall, and that she did hear the baby cry after giving birth. Other students reported they believe they'd heard it too. But then the cries stopped, according to the mother. The teen told investigators she checked and couldn't feel a heartbeat. She thought the baby was dead at that time, the documents state. The 19 year old went on to take a shower and a nap, and later she put the baby girl in a trash can. The next day on Sunday, students brought a trash bag to campus security, who confirmed the baby was inside. It's a tragic situation and there's more information out there than it was a few days ago, still a lot of unknown things, but it's definitely a tragic situation. Ken Gibson is with the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay, which last year handled 104,000 calls for help across several phone lines that they answer. That includes two one, one. Authorities say what happened this week is a reminder of the state's safe haven law, which allows parents to anonymously surrender unharmed newborns seven days old or younger at fire departments, EMS stations and hospitals.
