hey everyone it is Grant windour and Jack Roy back here on the bear clast today we are going to discuss uh the Bears 53 man roster the practice squad and some bold predictions for the Bears this C upcoming season along with uh our sad reaction to the the uh uh Bears heart knocks ending but uh we'll always have that to enjoy on Max from now on so thank you to the NFL for that um um but before we get into it how was your first week of class Jack yeah not too bad s this week we were just talking about it so class load isn't too heavy yet but I'm sure it'll start picking up in the next week or so so it's important always this time of year to stay ahead of schoolwork instead of falling behind so just trying to do what I can to say up with that how about you grant how's your week been uh you know it's it's it's been fairly simple you know just just uh the professor is basically explaining uh What uh you know what the class and Tails what equipment we're going to need and all that stuff and and you know maybe a little bit of homework but not much to uh overwhelm us for the first week so um we would also like to remind everyone who is watching slash listening to either like And subscribe if you're watching on YouTube and if you are listening on Apple podcast uh remember to uh follow and share uh let's get into it um starting with the uh 53 man Ross um the Bears will be carrying two quarterbacks on the active roster um those quarterbacks being Caleb Williams and Tyson bent no surprise to anyone those guys were always going to be quarterback one and two um they have Austin Reed as their quarterback three on the practice squad um obviously you know Williams is GNA be the starter um but this QB room is actually pretty good um bent has um some starter experience he since he uh started four games last year with uh the month that Fields was out with his thumb injury and went two and two during that month um Austin Reed had a pretty good um preseason so God forbid anything happens to Williams agent Reed would be a good enough fill in what's your uh uh take on the QB room yeah I was initially a little bit surprised that the Bears went with keeping two quarterbacks instead of three just because I feel like a lot of the other teams around the league with this new roster change that's come in the recent years are carrying three quarterbacks but it seems like the Bears had a pretty good idea that they could get Austin Reed to come back and sign with a practice squad so overall I think it frees up another roster spot for another versatile player for either special teams or defense or to carry an extra offensive lineman depending at where we are on the season but I I'm I I agree with you on beijun I think beijun at this point proved last year that he can be a very serviceable backup and with the weapons we have on offense I'm confident that if anything were to happen to cayb we wouldn't be like as concerned yes we would obviously be worse off not having Caleb in there but we can still he got a couple wins in my opinion yes um the Bears have uh four running backs uh DeAndre Swift khil Herbert uh and Roshan Roshan Johnson and uh Travis Homer um you guys might be wondering why isn't veis Jones listed here well he's still listed under wide receiver but I think we will see him uh more at running back than wide receiver um I have to admit I kind of would like to see uh Roshan Johnson uh get a little bit of a bigger share as uh rb2 in this offense what what's your take on that uh yeah I'm kind of surprised like you mentioned that the fact that we kept veis Jones and Travis Homer it was always kind of rumored to what was going to be the roster construction but when you already have three backs who have proven to be efficient in their careers and Swift Herbert and Roshan Roshan to a lesser extent last year sure but I was just surprised they use that extra roster spot on a running back but I think that this room has a lot of depth and I hope as you said that Roshan can get healthy and avoid some of the things that were playing him a little bit in preseason because uh just age wise and contract situ ation wise he's the most final option in rv2 this year and going forward as well yeah I mean I think I think that they kept uh Homer on for special teams value most likely which I mean I get but is it really that important yeah I mean I know he's pretty decent in past protection he always has been especially when he was in Seattle before this but it was just a little bit of surprise but nothing I'm too worked up over you know what now that you now that you uh brought up the fact that he was in Seattle I wonder if uh Shane Waldren had a say in keeping him I'm not sure if they over laughed at all I'm kind of remember when Homer came here but anyways yeah yeah that might be a good point um the Bears are caring uh six uh wide receivers uh those six uh being Keenan Allen DeAndre Carter Alis Jones Jr uh DJ Moore Rome dun and Tyler Scott um the four are most likely going to be Allan Moore dun and Scott uh Carter is most likely being carried as the kick returner and pun returner and like we said we will probably see uh Jones Jr as running back uh with uh the top uh four receivers being a lot better than people think kale Williams should have um either over 4,000 passing yards or close to 4,000 passing yards I know that uh is quite of a hot take but um honestly um there are only um three or four uh receiver rooms I would take over uh this one those being the Eagles 49ers uh Bengals and Texans and and the Dolphins um but uh what's your take on our wide receiver room yeah I mean just the star Talent at the top of the room obviously makes this one of the better wide records in the NFL and I do like the death here with Tyler Scott and Willis Jones like you mentioned Carter is most likely going to be handling all the kicks and pun most of the kick and punt returns when he's on a field or just in some special team but I'm a little worried about depth if anyone were to go down not too much I just being a pessimistic Bears fan at this time of year you think what if DJ Mori and now and Romo Dunes they go down the same week it's like this not going to happen so I got to kind of calm myself a little bit well we we still have to you know H AO voice some concern because you know I mean you you lose one of the top three of those guys you probably lose you know a couple you know 80 to 90 yards in your passing game um that week and and and that could know be gone for more than one week depending on what the injury is um next uh the Bears are carrying uh three tight ends on the roster uh those being uh Cole KT Gerald Everett and uh Mercedes Lewis uh this is probably one of the best or this is probably uh the best uh tight end Gro that we've had within the last few years um KT should have should get anywhere between 600 to 800 yards and five to seven touchdowns Everett is a huge upgrade over rert Tan in our personal opinion uh should get between 350 to 450 and yards and 3 to five touchdowns um and that is to say that KT doesn't get hurt if KT gets hurt Everett would step in as the uh tight in one so those could those numbers could increase um LS won't contribute much in the passing game but should uh contribute plenty in the blocking uh aspect of the game so I'm excited for that uh what's your thoughts on that Jack uh I honestly think that the stats for Cole Kad and Mercedes Lewis could be a little bit or not Mercedes Lewis and Gerald Everett could be a little bit closer just from what we've heard of A's training camp it seems like Everett has been running pretty much equal snap counts with KT with the ones and Everett outside of his tenure with the Titans has pretty much followed Shane wal turn around whatever he's oh that's true that's true I think he has a lot of confidence that ever understand his system I think that especially week one we could see a little bit more Everett but I hope throughout the season we just paid Comm at a decent amount of money was that last year two years ago it was last year I believe and he's shown a lot of Promise especially these last couple years in the team hasn't exactly had a lot of promise on the roster so I hope he gets gets a chance to show out with this new actual good passing attack no you make you make good points uh you know I I I forgot that uh Shane waden likes to run um 12 Personnel uh which which means two tight ends so I mean I'm glad that uh we definitely secured a good backup because Robert T was not that good of a backup he had like 100 yards and like one touchdown in the whole season last year I think something like that um the uh the Bears are carrying uh 10 offensive linemen uh this season uh the starting line for week one will most likely be uh Bradon Jones at left tackle Uh Kevin Jenkins at left guard Coleman Shelton at Center uh Nate Davis at Right Guard and uh Darnell right uh at right tackle um but the bearers are also have a good amount of depth at that position so this looks like a good offensive line um what are your thoughts on the offensive line group okay all I got to say is stay healthy and if anyone goes down which I hope is not having let it be at Right Guard since Fates is our best f up and he can slot right in there yeah I mean probably if you're looking at guys that will most likely get injured on this line I mean from what we've seen in the past it's probably between Kevin jenin and Nate Davis yeah so honestly I think uh Ryan Bates could step in for either of them if he had to um for sure so so yes if that were to happen let it be one of the guards um the Bears are carrying uh 10 defensive linemen um this season um uh the 10 those 10 are uh Andrew Billings uh Austin Booker Jon Dexter Senor Daniel Hardy stack Pickins uh Dominique Robinson montz sweat Daryl Taylor uh Demarcus Walker and Chris Williams I have to say um the depth at this position is pretty good in my opinion um the the starting D line will most likely be uh montta sweat Andrew Billings Jon Dexter and uh Demarcus Walker um I wouldn't be surprised if we see uh Austin Booker lineup across from uh Montes Swip by week five though um what's your uh take on the defensive line yeah I think uh barring any more signning to this group I think this group's season will largely be defined by how well gon Dexter and Austin Booker perform sure I think we know for the most part we're going to get out of sweat but those two young guys uh if Dexter continues to grow and Booker shows promise in his rck year like he did in the preseason this could be from a group that people are looking at as Montes sweat and a bunch of other dudes to Montes sweat and a bunch of other dudes who were going to say at the core back and cause some pressures y mhm I completely agree um the uh bears are fearing five linebackers uh this season uh those uh linebackers being uh taine Edmonds TJ Edwards Jack sandborn I'm gonna butcher his last name um amen I can't even pronounce that right you might pronounced it right um and Noah Su well uh the first three will will be the starting linebackers but I must say I'm I would actually kind of like to see uh Noah suell on the field a little more uh what's your take on on that yeah I think the top three are very good they're a good tackling unit and we're going to get pretty consistent Productions from him and hopefully no can stay healthy and that he gets a little bit of an opportunity to contribute this year like you mention um the Bears are carrying uh 10 defensive backs uh those 10 being uh Josh Blackwell uh Japan brisker Kevin berer Kyler Gordon Elijah Hicks uh Jaylen Johnson uh Jaylen Jones Jonathan Owens Terrell Smith and uh Tyreek Stevenson uh the starting safeties are going to be uh Jain brisker and Kevin ber uh the backups for them are are Jonathan Owens and Elijah Hicks um the starting quarterbacks for are uh Jaylen Johnson Tyreek Stevenson Kyler Gordon and Tyrell Smith or trell Smith um the backups for them are um Jaylen Jones and J and Josh Blackwell uh the Bears have a great quarterback room and we are excited to see some takeaways from this group um what's your take on the Bears qu room yeah I think one thing to watch and all think it's something I'm going to talked about a little later uh teams are not going to throw out Jaylen Johnson they show that's true so there's going to be a lot of volume coming the way of uh Tyreek Stevenson so I think a lot of this defense especially in third and long and passing Downs Tyreek Stevenson is done gonna have a lot of pressure on him with the ball coming his way a lot so just wanted to throw that out there yeah yeah I like that um um the vars are carrying uh three uh special team players uh those uh three players are uh Kyo Santos Patrick scales and Tori Taylor uh Santos will be the starting kicker Taylor will be the uh starting punter and scales will be the starting la la Stamper um I think this is a pretty good uh special teams uh room um I mean tooy Taylor you know from fourth round pick and uh from what we what we saw in uh preseason I I mean I enjoyed what what I saw did you enjoy what you yeah yeah for sure and hopefully Kyo Santos kicking is always a Fickle thing especially you ever know when a guy's going to lose his confidence it's been great the last couple years for us so hopefully he continues that because it's a huge aspect that you never really notice unless you kickers back that's true um the Bears practice squad um consists of uh Micah Bakersfield who is a linebacker uh Theo Benedict who or Ben bened who is a guard um he uh probably was one of the uh bright spots in our uh Hard Knocks uh beginning episodes so I I'm glad to have him back uh Stephen Carlson uh who was tight end um I'm kind of surprised they didn't keep uh Tommy Sweeney uh over him I thought he had a better preseason than uh Carlson but did he sign anywhere else Tommy Sweeney I think so I can't remember where um we signed uh Byron CER uh defensive tackle uh Jake corm who is an offensive tackle uh Colin Johnson Hall of Fame game Legend um uh quindell Johnson to a backup safety uh Carl Jones who's a linebacker uh Jim jam re croma who's a defensive end uh Ison mallerie who defensive tackle uh Char various more who a safety um Austin Reed who we mentioned earlier um readyy Stewart who I'm very shocked that we actually got back um because of his performance uh in the preseason um uh and uh bro torren who's also a quarterback uh Scott Dy who's also a long stapper because as of right now uh P Pat scales is uh recovering from uh Ving Tre I think um and Chris uh Glazer who's an offensive lineman what's your thoughts on this uh practice squad yeah I'm happy to see Austin Reed back I'm happy to see basille back and to see R Stewart back my only other comment is they did not help you out by signing guys with easy to pronounce names to the practice squad they really put you to work there yeah they did um I mean I think this is a great practice squad uh the Bears were very smart to bring uh Ray Stewart back uh you know uh and and we were very happy to see uh C Reed back uh Theo Benedict and Colin Johnson uh all guys that you know might get a little bit of game action if uh injuries pile up which we are not hoping for but it could happen um so our um final episode for the Bears heart knocks um is coming up uh this Tuesday um I'm kind I'm a little disappointed that it won't include um footage of the uh uh Titans game uh which kicks off from a week from today um and tomorrow a week from tomorrow um so um I am very we are very excited for that uh get your popcorn ready I mean it's going to be a good good season um I mean um and um what's your what do you want to see in the last uh uh hard KN uhe I hope we don't get too much of guys getting cut that always sucks to see the last episode that's true uh other than that just any final preparations the Bears are going through right now to get ready for the Titans the stuff last week just any more inside behind the scenes stuff we can get before we're shut off for the season and all we get to see is what happens on Sundays um I saw a thing on Twitter today that said uh Ryan poles was at the Clemson and George game oh so I wouldn't be surprised if we see some of the of that uh like scouting footage uh on Tuesday um but uh that's just my prediction um our final thing for today will be um some bold predictions for the Bears uh 2024 season uh one for offense and one for defense um my first uh old tredition for offense is that Caleb Williams will throw for more than 4,000 passing yards I know that doesn't seem like that bold of a take um but when you look at his weapons it definitely looks like he has enough to get that done um you know if he doesn't I mean I just want to winning season so um that's my one for offense what's your one for offense okay yeah I think that's a good one uh mine for offense is just based off what we saw in the preseason I know he didn't have any touchdowns but my prediction is that Romo de will catch double digit touchdown passes this year we've seen Shane Walter offenses in the past they utilize the X receiver a lot and just both guys on the outside and Ro was a big body on the outside and I would liken it almost to what DK mataf was able to do in Seattle and I think they're going to use him a lot in the red zone and he's been getting comfortable down there trying to find his footing a little bit you know but I think that him and Caleb already have great chemistry that we're going to see a lot of Caleb durone pouched out pass I must say uh I I think I mean I love your prediction but honestly let me say this I think that that one time that Rome did step out of downs should have been a touchdown because most stadiums don't have two outlines of the endone so that's what so that's what kind of made me think about I'm like you know what people are even little their crap for this I think he's I think he's going to do really well this year so I like your I like your prediction for that and hey I'm all for it um my bullet prediction uh on defense uh I kind of uh alluded to it earlier uh is that uh Austin Booker will be starting off or opposite uh monest Sweat by week five um we are all positive that we're positive that all Bears fans can agree that he had one hell of a preseason but I think he still needs a little bit more coaching before he um is in the starting lineup but I don't think he needs as much as people think um and what's your uh bull prediction for defense yeah so my bull prediction for defense which I also kind of alluded to earlier not as not as much but I think that Tyreek Stevenson will lead the NFC in interceptions this year with nine I really just firmly believe that people will not throw Jaylen Johnson even if Tyreek Stevenson keeps racking up interceptions because Jaylen Johnson is that good and I think that Tyreek is going to have more than enough opportunities to be a ball on defense this year especially with the emphasis we know Matty brus has been putting on takeaways for this defense I actually like that you put a number on how many interceptions do you think he's going to have because I I thought you meant I thought that you were just gonna say that you that he was gonna lead like the NFC in in interceptions or something no I think that's the number to beat I think that's a I mean that's a lot for a second uh second year uh quarterback but I mean you for a reason it's it's bu t for a reason and you're and you're most likely right that that you know opposing quarterbacks won't be thrown to Jaylen Johnson after how good of a season he had last year so I mean hey I'm I mean I loved your predictions um I think that's going to be our uh Show podcast for this week um next week we will be starting up uh twice a week podcasts one on Saturday and one on Monday going over um the Bears match up on Saturday and then giving our reaction to the game on Mondays um um so uh we're going to pick up our schedule a little bit
