would you say that's the hardest club for you to hit like she has her ways kind of it's out there for the taking but if you get the wind they're talking about if you get the rain you're talking about it can be a monster because the last thing you want to do is start with a ball in that [Music] burn Hello friends welcome to the drop your One-Stop shop for all things AIG Women's Open brought to you here at St Andrews we have fun fashion and Festival Vibes we also have OnCourse access behind the scenes and more but first let's catch up with defending Champion Lilia Vu let's get into it it was so special to be able to lift this I was going through a really tough patch last year and somehow came out on top at the AIG women's open and you know that gave me a lot of confidence you know that you can be resilient and overcome whatever you're going through and everything happens for a reason and keep pushing through I think I was so nervous on my final putt um on 18 I remember I'm usually pretty good reading putts and kind of very confident kind of have my caddy as a backup for checking the lines but I told him like I don't know what's happening right now I'm so nervous what's the break and he just said a cup out right and then I just did it and was trying to lag it up there but it went in and at that point I was laughing because nothing could go wrong in that moment you look at every single name that's been on here before like most of them are people I've looked up to and I've watched so it's kind of surreal to even have my name on there every day I try to be the best person I can be not just the best golfer I can be and hopefully I can Inspire the Next Generation and you know it's so fun seeing all these little girls and kids come out to watch us more often it makes everything all our hard work mean something thing the AIG Women's Open it's so widescale everybody's tuning in you know this is probably one of the hardest Majors out there and you know the conditions are going to be hard it's at St Andrews history is Rich here so many people have won here and it's just the perfect place the home of golf to grow the game and I can't wait to see all the kids and all the fans that come out this week and interact with them [Music] let's start with who's in the running for the title this year the AIG Women's Open is the fifth and final major of the women's golf season we've already had four different winners three of whom were firsttime major Champions the standout has of course been world number one Nelly Corda who added a second major Crown to her growing list of accomplishments at the Chevron championship and that was one of an incredible six wins in seven starts stats-wise Nelly leads the way and strokes gained but the amundi Evan championship winner aaka fway has 10 top 10 finishes on the LPGA this year while also topping the birdie and scoring average charts we're here with Ling Grant on the Range and we're going to do a very quick what's in the bag can you run us through what you've got here some rusty wedges at the moment three wedges 48 54 and a 58 i210 and irons all the way up to five not two hybrids to four and a three three wood driver La I haven't changed anything for the week except for the putter okay I added some weight to the bottom of it say it's so windy I felt like it was a bit too light so and the wind kind of catches it it's Extra metal on here yeah it's like a metal tooth and it just makes it a little bit heavier so you got a bit more stability when you're patting y cool yeah so one thing that is very cool today is your outfit so this is the brand new anadas JL collection give us a little twil cuz the back of that is unbeliev look at that that is so nice and we're going to have you walk us through a bit of what you do usually when you warm up mhm yeah I'm just going to start up with a 54 I love your swing thank you I say that every time I see you yeah something like that would you hit every Club I usually go 975 pick the odd ones or if I'm not comfortable with hitting my f then I'm not hitting F would you say that's the hardest club for you to hit like she has her ways kind of I you know I feel the same with mine so would you practice with it more if you felt uncomfortable or you'd think so but okay should we do some shot shaping yeah what shapes do you like to do I feel like we need to do some Stingers in this weather yeah we can do that me I'm just going to go with a five I like it your favorite five my favorite five so what did you change about the usual way you hit your five iron to hit that kind of shape the lower shot just put it back in my stance a little bit um how far back are we talking like a ball or two have a little bit of an easy swing on it and not be too aggressive that's sort of where it tends to go all right this is a super low tea with your driver just take it back a little bit but more still that's nice after the range Lynn headed to the first hitting that iconic opening t-shot [Music] we then had the chance to get a unique inside the rope's view from her Caddy's perspective which was incredibly [Music] [Music] cool you have like a very like different aesthetic but that's like that people [Music] powerful we're here on the first hole of the old course one of the easiest Fairways to hit that's because it is so wide from left to right but just keep an eye out for the swilken bridge not many players will hit it past that Landmark around 100 yards in is what they want then they'll face the shot over the burn this will make every just hit it that little bit harder just to make sure that they get over the water because the last thing you want to do is start with a ball in that burn so watch out for balls flying a little bit past the pin here and then you can get your round off to a good start I grew up watching the open so our version is this it's the AIG um the Women's Open and and I always wanted to win it because of that and and I won it in my second year as a pro and then never touched it again I mean it was it's incredible it seemed easy at the time oh I'll have many more of these never touched it again so I'm so glad I got in there early at burkdale you know I think I probably put too much pressure myself you know you're Scottish play lyx golf you should be suited to this um and then you know you're playing in front of your family and friends you know the British crowd and and you were probably trying I was probably trying too hard to play well and you know just kind of kept me back a little bit just to be here at this place is is good enough for me so obviously burkdale is the one I played best at cuz I had my other better finishes at burkdale but this is still the one for me first hole I go and start with eagle like perfect driver 5 R little 25 footer no big deal next hole Driver F AR and I saw this Fon go and I thought it's kind of a good Line This is this isn't this isn't going to be too bad if it sits down cuz it's everything sloped away at the back of standing and it and it's blind so you don't see it so I saw it bounce and I thought yeah that's that could be pretty good if it sits and the calories clapping and they're getting louder and louder and then they just go completely nuts and I'm like did it go in and mor Mill was was on course commentator and she's like is in the hole like my aunt and uncle were there and it was before mobile phone so I had to get the trophy ceremony and drive my car just down the road get out into a phone box and ring my mom and stepdad and then my brother and then my dad in America from a phone box to let them know I just won the AIG Women's Open to win the British Open how was it 10 11 weeks after 10 11 weeks yeah I mean I can't even wrap my head around the fact that you did that it's hard enough to get around a goal for the average person just to play St Andrews but to play it in a competition it's a very select group of people have done that it's quite emotional for me thinking that this is where the game started and the game that's given me so much in my life that this is this is where it all began so if you all goes full circle for me when I come back here to St Andre so we're standing here with the one and only Anica saur now now we have a few rapid fire questions are you ready I'm ready all right who are you rooting for this week who am I root you know it's so hard when when I have so many friends playing every week when I get that question it's like you know I don't really favor anybody but um you know I always kind of look at the sweds uh right now I think we have two really good ones are playing well it's Mayar or ly Grant I think we're going to see them at the top of the leaderboard by the end of the week I love that now who or what do you think the lowest score is going to be what do you think the winning score is well um if you would have asked me before I looked at the forecast I probably would have said something else uh it's looking pretty tough um I think we're going to see obvious I'm under par for sure because these ladies are are fantastic players but I would say probably single digit uh this golf course is it's out there for the taking but if you get the wind they're talking about if you get the the rain you're talking about it can be a monster it's a challenge now last rapid fire question for you now anuka in her prime if you were in the field how do you think you'd fair in my Prime well I wish I was in my Prime I would love to play here this is really such a a cool place to be and for the women to have their last major of the year to be played here I wish I would have had a chance to do that so uh in my Prime out I felt very comfortable at the tea so if I could have the same feelings at my in my Prime I would feel pretty good that is all we have right now here at the drop be sure to tune in for more fun tomorrow at the AIG womans open till next time [Music]
