welcome to ryanfield on the campus of Northwestern University and home to the wild cats where the purple clad fans are eager to get this one started we've got a sensational match up for you fans have been filing in and getting ready for this game as we'll see a squad from the back the Miami Ohio Red Hawks taking on a team from the Big 10 the Northwestern Wildcat for EA Sports college football ree Davis with you alongside David poock and Jesse Palmer and guys can't wait to get this one [Applause] [Music] started the RedHawks will kick it away to [Applause] start and he takes this from inside the five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 so the Northwestern Wildcats offense will take the first swing of the game and here he comes this offense is built completely around the talents of this running back a rare commodity in today's game and all eyes are on it and the defense knows it too you know every single snap this defense is going to be keying on this running back knowing that he is the key to the offensive success and offenses want to continue to feature the Run they want balance even if it's not super successful you can take it little bit at a time just to keep that defense honest Northwestern right back to the [Applause] line the run from the shotgun at the 35 he's loose really nice run there good solid pick up and they'll R the sticks for the first down this is an offense that really sees their identity is being able to run the football nice job there picking up the first down the offense lines up at the 40 they've got a first down used the play fake now to throw he makes the catch he got loose almost house it finally dragged down at for 32 nice play design on that one you make it easy for your quarterback too because it's easy to see what's happening right in front of you over the middle of the field you can see where Defenders are dropping you can see where the soft spots are in zone coverage and just a really nice job by the QB locating his guide making an accurate throw quarterback on the keeper and a pickup of eight opens a world of opportunities on second and two this offense is really going to try to keep the defense on their heels in the Run game by doing it with different guys it'll be running backs it'll be quarterbacks they may even try to get receivers involved in the Jet Sweep game reverse game as well but a nice play there here comes the offense on second down hand off from the gun brought down to the ground but he has enough for the first down you've got to be loving what you're seeing from your offense here on the opening drive of this game they're in a really nice Rhythm they've got real good balance going on right now and they've got the defense on their heels Northwestern comes to the line with a fresh set of downs trying to cap this drive with the pass good quickness to grab it off the bouns that completion takes him down to the seven yd line and they are ready to strike he got a hand on it and deflected it but probably just got a bruise off that missile and gave up the completion yeah not used to handling the revolution on that football QB zipped it in there nice job getting the deflection getting your hand on the football that's what you're supposed to find the football but the offense got the break and got the completion they'll keep it on the ground for first and goal he'll be brought down at the 5 yd line and this defense is on its heels [Music] second and goal for the offense wide receiver now comes in motion he'll run it to the middle looking for the End Zone he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three looking like they're going to have to try to throw this one into the end zone here on third down David quarterback's got to be careful can't get greedy cuz you know these windows they close fast extremely tight Windows find your big body guys that you know can win in contested situations here on third down looking to throw on Third and goal looking for the score and it's C touchdown Wilds well you know this offensive coordinator scrips his opening 10 15 plays he didn't even need that they went nine plays score a touchdown everything working perfectly they look like a well oiled machine early in this game [Music] offens and way just a second the officials going to take a second look at this one and they take another look at the Players the officials on the field were right and the play will stand and the extra point makes it 7 nothing they put together an 81 yd drive and they finish things off with an 8yd toss for the score lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown [Applause] Drive set Kick here he comes from inside his own five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 so Miami Ohio's offense will go to work for the first time [Applause] today they'll snap it with a minute to play here in the opening stanza out of the gun the inside hand off to the running back slams into the pile he'll get one to the 17 I'll tell you this is a running back who's very very dangerous and the defense did a good job getting him down there but they got to do a great job gang tackling because this is a guy that can break tackles and turn those types of plays into home runs didn't get much on first down it's second and nine back to pass it's gabber receiver looks it in it's complete makes the tackle at the 32 but they were backed up inside there 20 and they pick up 15 they pick up the first down on the drag route good job by the receiver knowing it was made man coverage if he's looking he's booking he gave his quarterback the eyes right away that says hey I'm not stopping put it out in front of me I'm getting this first down as they get set to snap it just about to reach the end of the quarter from the gun the running back has it and a short gain here in the first quarter will come to a close guys we've come to the end of the period and Northwestern has the lead here one period in the books and let's take a look at the steps now to see if these guys can get back in the game as we open the second quarter stuck with a running game on first down now here they come again they'll try the Run he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see which way that's going to go hold it holding penalties the ultimate Drive killer we'll see if it cost this offense here give to the back jumped on top of the pile well the defense wasn't expecting that they had a lot of guys back into coverage that was second and a lot of yards to go and they got caught off guard not enough guys in the Box to control that running back lining up trying to convert this third and short from the 40 [Applause] they'll try to power their way ahead and he gets it done on third down they move the chain and they'll mark it at the 44 this is a guy that can find of the hdden yard that play he just pushes the pile to get that first [Applause] down and the red Hogs are marching down the field [Applause] coming out on first down with the play fake pulls it in it's McDonald holding off off amazing how many times an offensive holding penalty will stall a drive we'll see if the offense can overcome it leaves it with the running back and he is swarmed under a host of Defenders there to make the stop at the 36 brings up second [Applause] down kept it on the ground on first down let's see what they do on [Applause] second hand off from the shotgun he tried to find some Running Room but they get him stopped defense is about firing off offensive guys at staying in gas everybody knowing where they're supposed to be you can tell what defense everyone was right little supposed to be nowhere to run seventh play of the drive coming up and a long way to go on third down looking to throw and he needs a chunk play safe completion on the screen no Ser not this time the defense was there and ready for that one and listen that's not a surprise obviously they want to throw the football on third down and try to get a first down but it got absolutely nowhere great job by the defense growling up and actually getting a tackle for a l the red hwks will call on their punt team getting our first look of the afternoon at the punter not going to risk a return here he'll make the fair catch Wildcats have it back to the Northwestern offense headed out on that last Drive defense had no idea what was happening run or passing it wound up in the end zone Jesse yeah you saw the experience in this offense that last drive too on that touchdown everybody on the same page these guys have reped these plays over and over in practice and in games and it's working yeah so I got to find a way to disrupt it I got to find a way to maybe be more aggressive maybe Blitz mess up this Rhythm they got going [Applause] offense in an empty set on second down he'll fire makes the catch it's Johnson tackled after picking up the first down you know sometimes when you're throwing against Zone coverage be time for the routes to develop so nice job by the quarterback there being patient allowing his receivers to work themselves open now on first down from the 28 he's looking to throw it he's right on target he is stopped behind the line of scrimmage they'll lose yards on that one nice job by this guy finding the slot guy on a drag yeah receiver just working his way across the field giving his quarterback a nice easy target that's an easy completion now on second down he's looking to throw unloads to the wide out and the pass is incomplete Jarred Loose by the hit Ball's at the 27 this offense facing a third and long wide receiver coming across in motion they'll run it out of the shotgun and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down we've got a timeout here late in the first half and they'll try to get more points on the board before the break Northwestern will send out the punt [Applause] team running it back it's McDonald coverage team gets their job done and they'll Mark him down at the 38 yd line the Miami Ohio offense turns to the field that last Drive won't go on the Highlight Reel after ending in a punt they'd like to be more productive this time David and I think this offense has to be a little bit more balanced find a little balance between the Run Jesse and working in that pass and I think too David it's just going to take a spark it just takes one play to get this thing picked up and going and they got him he'll get him down from the sack and listen the quarterback drops back and it's going through his RS we see Zone but just couldn't do anything about it this defensive line this pressure getting to the quarterback getting him on the ground clock's running and they'll try to get to the line warp speed for second down back to throw it's gabber trying to get to him and the pressure is coming in and they get him again there's a timeout call as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer and we might as well will state the obvious first and second down didn't work out third and very long touch pass on the [Applause] rck and sure tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down marker timeout called by the defense is their first of the half as they'll go to the sideline and try to make adjustments and the RedHawks send out the punt unit this will be the second time they've had to kick it away he'll be brought down but there is a flag on the field let's see what that one's about personal foul roughing the kicker defense the officials offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the [Applause] penalty comes out throwing on first down just had to get rid of that one good job to avoid the loss second down the incomplete pass leaves him with second down he's looking to throw fires to the wide out finds him man on the left and it is a chunk play a huge gain on that one before the defense brings it to an end first for the number 31 we played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connors in our halftime update all right guys looks like we've got a great environment there today in Evans and it's been said football is a game of inches and guess what based on the comp Arison between third down conversion rate today and the average yard per play how can you argue that I mean the low-lying fruit is to look at some of the explosive plays we've seen in panic but really this game is going to come down to which team is more efficient when they had the ball and how they play when it matters most and with that let's send it back to the guys at Ryan Field Northwestern will kick it up as we start the third quarter he'll start the return inside his spot he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 Miami Ohio has it back the Red Hawks offense heads to the field the sledding has been tough scores have been at a premium Jesse in every possession seems like it could switch the momentum of the game yeah re for this offense just feels like they just haven't been as physical for this offensive coordinator David he's having to go deep into the Playbook just to try to generate a first down and the good thing is there's not a ton of game pressure cuz the other side's not scoring either but if you can find that one thing that get that one positive play and then maybe you get those juices going then something can start to bat the one thing you can say about this defense they pursue the football the first guy might miss the second guy might miss but there's going to be more and more hats flying with ball carry you saw it on that play getting the tackle for not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long back up inside their 20 pocket starts to collapse and he is snowed under sack at the seven pretty nice as a defense right when you can go nickel put five DBS on the field and not have to Blitz anyone trusting your front four to get the job done on third down and they do it right there getting the sack [Applause] the Red Hawks will send out the punt unit three and out they got stuck in Reverse they hope the punt can bail them out he gets it away from his own End Zone he's got great speed they make the stop but there is a penalty marker down let's see what the call is personal foul ring the kicker defense so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty so the offense keeps his Drive alive thanks to the roughing the punter penalty he is going nowhere stop at the line of scrimmage great team defense on that run for everybody doing their job people winning their one-on ons D linemen staying in their gaps linebackers in DBS filling you just can't do it better they got nothing on the last play it's second and [Applause] 10 they'll ride the running back and leave it with him maybe picked up a couple he's down at the [Applause] 24 a third and long coming up here back to throw it's gabber he's got the tight end and with that effort they pick up a fresh set of downs they have it at the 34 yd line enough for first and the RedHawks come to the line with a fresh set of [Applause] downs to the to the ground with the back we'll give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up ging [Applause] second went to the running game on first down now here they come again on second down just keeps firing it's caught downfield not nice pick up there gets him the first down and sets him up at the 45 yd line the big fell the tight end the wide receiver in a tight end's body going up and making the catch in search of their first touchdown of the game they are on the move with a first and 10 used the play fate now to throw getting some heat and it's incomplete but there's a flag in the back field let's see who the calls on hold it just an obvious holding call there and one that just kills an offense's [Applause] momentum the play action fake he'll take a shot and good coverage there to knock it away and deny the score DB doesn't out standing job here on the Deep pass locating the football no Pi able to swat it away pass incomplete and now on second down for this offense to throw it's gabber feeling some heat and as he throws nowhere close on that one as he got drilled trying to deliver the football and now they face third down [Music] I'm not positive but that first down marker might be in the next County on Third and long no secret what he needs here wide open down field and he's brought down after a huge completion man this offense is so dangerous ree they've got dudes all over the field that can make plays there's a big gainer in the pass game you get a chunk of yards like that now the defense is really on its heels this offense thrives on those big explosive plays and that one has them set up with a first and 10 from the 17 out of the shotgun they go to the ground and he'll be tackled but there is a flag on the field [Applause] holding that penalty moves the ball back 10 yds will replay the down looking for a productive play on first down give to the running back they make the stop but not before he takes a chunk out of what they need to move the [Music] [Applause] sticks as they get set to snap it time winding down here in the quarter on second down looking to throw finds his man it's Johnson and brought down looks as if that's how we'll end the third guys we've come to the end of the period and Northwestern has the lead here they've done the work to build a nice cushion now to bring it home as we check out the stats after three quarter one more period to go to see who can make the winning plays and come home with the victory they'd love to pick up this third down and get a fresh set with first and go and a missed opportunity on third down as the defense knocks it free and fourth down is coming up long third and short in field goal range they dial up the pass play quarterback was trying to get through his progressions there was just simply nobody open couldn't make an accurate enough throw it ball it falls incomplete Now setting up a big decision here on fourth down on fourth down looking for the completion grab near the sticks it's Johnson Andy and he strides his way into the end zone touchdown Red Hawks [Applause] ready to try the point after for the extra point and no problem on that extra point and we have a tie ball game here in the fourth they held the ball for 15 plays on that touchdown drive and they finish it off by connecting from 10 yds out we've got a Dandy going here all tied up in the fourth quarter and about to kick it away he'll bring it back from inside his SP bu just enough space to cross at 25 let's mark it at the 27 yd line the Northwestern offense returns to the field from the gun they'll try to impose their will gets it across the 30 to the 31 they pick up of five I like this guy as a running back because he can run between the tackles and he can also go outside he can really do it all the Wildcat moving quickly to the [Applause] line hand off to the lone back pushes ahead for a couple they'll mark it at the 33 33 yd third coming up [Music] and after that last run we'll see if they keep it on the ground on [Applause] third looking to throw using the back as a receiver on the screen they make the stop but not before the screen has hit him for a first down and much more really good execution by this offense the off that is a time honored way to slow down the rush hit with the screen and a chunk play yeah such a great job cuz you're flying up the field to get to the quarterback cuz everything looks like pass down the field let those guys get up the field throw it right behind him he does a little bit of the rest making some moves getting up field making the big play looking to go up top on first down caught in the back field it's Porter and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few I want to get my running backs the ball and space as much as possible sometimes it doesn't work in the running game but I can throw it to him I can try to create some space out wide dump him the football let him make some catches and see if I can't get some big plays out [Applause] of on second down he's looking downfield they'll throw it to the back on the screen at the 40 there he goes they finally get him stopped but what a good job J by that front wall to set up the screen and create some lanes for their running [Applause] back Northwestern coming to the line with another first [Applause] down run the shotgun the hand off to the back and he finds Some solid space makes a nice game before the defense is able to stop him the clock stopped two minutes left to play in this [Music] one let's see what they've got on second [Applause] down the give to the tail back they make the stop but there is a flag on the field we'll see what that's all [Applause] about we'll repeat the previous down but this time the offense has 10 more yards it has to cover lost to fire on second down back open in the middle and the defense had that one well covered just a short game there this will be the seventh play of the drive and they need to convert third and [Applause] six running to the left and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop referee signals timeout it's the defense wanting to make sure that they have everything just right with a big coming and now on fourth down they will put it on the shoulders of the kicker to save them with his foot never out and now they've taken the lead here in the final two minutes well the offensive special teams did their job right here late in the fourth quarter they put themselves now in position to win this game it all comes down to the defense can they deliver if they get the stop they win this game after putting up a free spot the kickoff unit set to [Applause] go on the move from inside his five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 guys we'll see what this Red Hawks offense can get done this time he's going up top here late in the game and it's an incomplete pass on the Deep shot but the flag is down let's check the call they say you could call holding on every play well they did on that one off the play fake on first down to throw unloads to the wide out got him downfield and the tackle is made but not before that completion gets him 30 plus they immediately call time out to preserve every second they can to try to rally her Le trying to find his man on first down finds his tight end I think in this situation two minutes trailing late I think you got to be thrown to the sticks every time I don't know if these short completions are going to get it done you're just not going to have enough time to get down the field so from a play calling standpoint I think you want to think about being a little bit more aggressive sprinting to the line to try to get this one off clock's running and they'll spike the ball to try to save as much time as they can that'll bring up [Applause] third no time to waste here they've got to get set and pick up chunk yardage scanning the field it's gabber looking down the middle fires into traffic pick off they bring him down but that great defensive play might be overturned let's see what the call is this offense plenty happy enough with the result of that play So they just let the official put that flag back in his pocket and decline the penalty and the quarterback takes a knee [Music] [Music] e
