and then into our final room the receiver room um and one that we you know we talk about all the time and we'll bring it up you know with you know next final 10 minutes of the show let's let you start with this one the receiver room you know it know good and well we saw great plays from Chase Claypool already is he gonna make a push over Justin shorter obviously you have the starters right now which would assume to be khil Shakir would assume to be Curtis Samuel and Keon Coleman um which is a solid starting three in the first place but adding an mvs to Claypool Mack Hollands and then the Battle of Justin shorter KJ hamler Shavers um so there's definitely going to be a solid battle there for the fifth and sixth receiver spots we'll see if it turns into much and then obviously Andy Isabella um and a couple other undrafted free agents savier Johnson Lawrence keys and then obviously last year's undrafted free agents Charles Shavers and Brian Thompson let's let's start with you give us give us your rundown I think again this is not going to wow anyone on paper because to The Outsiders looking in like let's take a Bengals fan for example and you say you guys are really going to try to beat the chiefs with Chase Claypool and mvs but I think if you actually look at it and see what Joe Brady's trying to do I think this is a perfect combination of players and I talked about this last week how mvs was kind of like that selling point to me where he was the final piece he's the field stretcher because you have those Speedy Shifty guys to work underneath you have the big body wide receivers who can help in the Run blocking game they can make the tough contest a catch or in Keon Coleman's case uh you know he can go down the boundary Red Zone Target everything under that sort right there and now mvs was kind of the final piece so as much as we've been saying oh who could the bill the bills go sign or trade for after Trey White's money comes in on June 1 which is quickly approaching I'm just realizing time's flying here I I really think this room is set like I I don't think there's one more move I mean you might see someone like a d just a bottom tier guy like Quin quintz cus he got released maybe they replac him with someone else but I really think that mvs might have been the conclusion here to the off season of the Bills wide receiver room and one last thing I'll say is I think cancade is essentially wide receiver one in terms of targets so I don't want to say that Curtis Samuels wide receiver one right now or Keon Coleman's wide receiver one you know like I just think it's going to be a wide receiver by committee approach and I I think I like what they're doing I think so too um I think we're going to keep just for this purpose of this discussion on this show tonight we'll keep Kade in the tight end room because we both gave it like a a you know kind of an a room um so it can't unfairly double dip into this room but you're right I mean ultimately like we're missing the running back weapons what Ray Davis can do in the passing game Dawson Knox Dalton can Kade um James Cook can do in the in the in the passing game as well if you if he cleans up those drops especially um so there's there there's a lot going on in Fringe help can Frank Gore help in that in that Frank Gore Jr help in that regard there's definitely some some Fringe players not included in this discussion for sure especially with the Joe Brady offense but yeah you're right I mean people at face Valley are gonna say mvs Mack Hollands Chase clayo yeah sure but those are fourth fifth and sixth receivers so no our plan is not to beat the chiefs with our fourth fifth and six receivers um but I will say that that fourth fifth and six was definitely better than last year when there were some injury problems and some production concerns at the receiver position where Trent sherfield was was a catastrophe filling in for Gabe Davis you know Hardy couldn't get anything going so the bills upgraded all of those backup spots and sure they let Stefan Diggs for for um you know Keon Coleman kind of swap go and sure he's not gonna be as good as Stefan Diggs day one but I'd argue the rest of the unit is upgraded um so that's really where it comes out how much of a downgrade from Diggs is Keon Coleman we'll see you know at least last year's Stefan Diggs and then factoring that downgrade how much of an upgrade then is this year's khil Shakir this year's Curtis Samuel and then obviously Mack Holland MBS Chase Claypool Justin shter whoever how much of an upgrade will they be over The Fringe players last year that the bills I mean just couldn't get going like they just really didn't have anybody after Gabe Davis until they developed K Shakir who's back uh but there just really wasn't anyone there and that was a major problem on this bill's offense but now if Chase Clay's back and bodying people like he's able to do it's going to be interesting um to see if he's goes higher than just the six receiver on this roster and the and mvs and Josh Allen just seem to have some natural connection which is I'm why I'm assuming that deal got done something about his game and their connection with Josh Allen is enticing to the bills and Josh so when that ever happens you kind of see that John Brown likee connection an Emanuel Sanders like connection where are we underrating it but that was like a Josh Allen choice of Target based on his game his skill set his speed and what he's able to do so mvs at face value may not be impressive but the way that he's able to go with um Josh Allen and then Chase Claypool what he's already looking good and then whatever they're going to do is shorter I don't know man I I just think that they're upgrading every other spot at the receiver room minus the the downgrade at receiver one for the moment between last year Diggs and this year Keon Coleman will that end up evening out maybe maybe not but the rest of the room is upgraded yeah I would agree with that so in terms of ranking this wide receiver room and trying to put numbers on them yeah would you have Keon Coleman as wide receiver one because originally yeah like originally I was thinking that that was a Gabe Davis replacement but then you say well technically Claypool and mvs were the Gabe Davis Replacements so that kind of knocks up Keon Coleman so then you say is Keon Coleman wide receiver one or is he wide receiver two Curtis Samuels wide receiver one but then if you put Keon Coleman down to wide receiver two then you're going back to the Gabe Davis replacement and in that case it should be mvs and Claypool but I have those guys as wide receivers four five and six so that's why it get so convoluted and I don't know how to rank these guys so I I guess for the sake of this conversation are we putting Keon Coleman at wide receiver one and then does Samuel go to two and then shakure three I think think so I think for purpos of at least at this discussion I think that you have Keon Coleman in his body type and what he's doing as receiver one yeah I mean I just wouldn't consider shakir's gonna make a good a nice upgrade Samuel's gonna make a nice a nice upgrade too but I just wouldn't consider either receiver one yeah I mean I would I would I don't know in production yet we'll see but I really would think that at least in position and um formation he'll be receiver one yeah I mean if if he's nowhere near ready in Camp which doesn't seem to be the case seems like he's ready and what he's able to produce and being another basically Josh Allen favorite player I kind of think that he's receiver one I'm not saying he's going to be receiver one in production around the league we'll see he could be but more and more importantly I think he is in in stature and position um and then with with Shakir basically being a dominator in the slot I mean he's the bills can say whatever they want I believe that he's going to dominate the slot he's going to be the Bill's new slot receiver and Curtis H's going to bounce around everywhere and then you're going to have your boundaries in Claypool and your boundaries and mvs so I mean the unit itself is much upgraded Kevin I don't care what anyone says you are going to take a hit from Diggs to Coleman I mean just a year one hit yeah so I guess in terms of ranking them we will put Keon Coleman as wide receiver one but I would agree that might not match the production you might get more production out of someone like khil Shakir but I have him as a wide receiver three just because I think he's going to dominate the slot wide receiver three is known as a slot receiver at least according to the bills but I think that's you know with all the teams that's how they view it so Coleman one Samuel 2 Shakir 3 mvs 4 and then probably at the moment Claypool Holland shorter 567 then KJ hamler and Andy Isabella is that the right order right now yeah I mean that could flop anywhere beyond the I guess I mean anywhere really beyond the first three even even mebe including them like we'll see but really after the first three any one of them could be four though any single one of those players could could amount could could could materialize as receiver four uh I think Holland is with his roster with his with his contract is on this roster but that's because of his special teams ability what he can do across the formation he may be receiver six when it's all said and done though in Hollands Hollands could be anywhere from four to six but he's making the roster um but really who takes let's just put Hollands maybe six to start with of his special teams and he's going to have that backing and he's going to be able to fill in when needed but four and five could really be any combination of any of these guys on this roster even if they want to keep making sure Claypool plays well throughout the entire preseason mvs is probably a lock but that four let's just put mvs five for the moment just for fun anybody could take that four spot from Hollands from mvs to Claypool to Shorter I guess to really anybody hamler Shavers I mean I wouldn't think so those guys um but it's very very possible that that just for fun of this discussion that that receiver four position is wide open on this roster because I think five and six are set in nvs and Hollands but realistically anyone could step into that receiver four let me ask you this how many locks are there in the wide receiver room right now how many wide receivers are definitely making this roster because I think it's three maybe four I have Coleman Samuel Shakir definitely making the roster I would think that mvs makes this roster based on what I said and how the bills will use him but I don't think that's a guarantee I mean I think the contract is pretty favorable for both sides so I think I would cap it off at Shakir as wide receiver three and say the rest is kind of unknown I would think that mvs makes it and then after that I mean I I would think that M Hollands makes it but if Claypool really impresses they're still Justin shorter I'm very high on him ah man I mean so how many locks do you have I have five I have five I think the contracts of mvs is like he'd have to really stink um which the bills I guess would Evan out but they paid him a signing bonus it wouldn't feel good really they would take a pretty solid hit it's not a lack um but I I have it close to one and Matt Collins's contract too would kind of hurt so he's on the roster for special teams even if he stinks um he's on the roster for special he is making the roster so I have five You could argue me into four but Holland is the fourth he's making the roster he's making a lot of money to play special teams um so I have five on the roster the sixth is completely open if they even keep one last year they didn't they just IR Justin shorter and didn't keep a f a sixth could Brady go with that mindset though um I think someone's going to have to play their way onto the roster um but I had five with one opening right now with the with the heads up really Claypool verse shorter for the final six spot but hamler could work his way and I don't think Isabella or Shavers will but I think um I think it's really shorter vers clay pool for the six and final spot on the bills maybe on the roster but on the bills receiving core I think I agree with you the only difference that I have is I don't know if mvs and Ma Collins are definite locks so I would say that there are three definite locks and then two that are most likely so I I agree with your order there I think those five will end up making the 53 man roster but I just don't think that it's guaranteed like if mvs really does not look good or if uh ma howand just really underwhelms then maybe the bills would take a little bit of a hit contractually I mean we've seen them get I they're paying stuff Stan Diggs or Stefan Diggs is counting for 28 million against their cap this year so we've seen them do some crazy things for them to get out of these contracts but I I would agree then the last receiver position is going to be between Justin shorter Chase Claypool Andy Isabella KJ hamler Tyrell Shavers any of those guys yeah I think the difference is like when they cut let's like use O.J Howard as an example um they were in a little bit different of a financial situation so if you caught mvs and Hollands so Hollands is going to cost you a fair amount of money he's making $2.4 million a majority of it guaranteed it's a lot of money to cut him he'd have to and and then you're signing him for special teams anyways he'd have to be in an Abomination on special teams to not make this roster and not produce anything on offense I consider him to be a lock but anything's possible if he's really poor has an injury doesn't play all off season the both's probably him in that case um they have to pay him anyways so then to cut him you lose that you know obviously that 2.4 but guess what you have to do as well you have to roster another receiver so let's say Shavers makes it over him you then got to pay another 800k to cut him up on on top of the Dead capap hit and the bills just anything's possible but the way that that that Holland specifically is contract structured I really don't see him getting caught like financially the bills basically said even if you stink we playing you at special teams so at least you'll have some value to us and in the hopes that you're at least able to produce on offense so I think that that's kind of where I'm at with him and his contract but yeah sure like dude they'll cut him if he sucks like and he they just can't use a roster spot um and they just say clay Claypool and shorter out play him like it is what it is like I don't think the bills are going to care but does Sting to cut Mt Hollins and whether you care or not that's I think not you but in general like if you care or not like it would hurt the bills a lot um to the tune of a good chunk of change to make a swap with Holland and somebody else and it it have to be somebody that's like really good either in the preseason or someone they acquire then I could see it being a little bit different um but that's kind of where I sit with it but you're right like no one's truly a lock other than those three like those three are Stone Cold 100% locks bearing something crazy like a trade um like for a high-end receiver because maybe that team like would want Justin Jefferson would want Shakir or something um but outside of something absolutely insan those are the three locks but I do have those two as like 99.5% locks and then I still I have the true battle of Claypool for shorter for that final position I don't think they're going to want to roster another slot in Isabella but truly I think the reason they signed those big guys were to have that backup boundary that they're looking for on the roster so that's kind of where I stand with everything Kevin like kind of give us your final rep on the spring roster in ota's and anything you saw well just confirm it is 31 million actually right for Diggs he accounts for 31 million on the books this year yes okay so I said 28 but it's actually 31 and one last thing I'll say about Stefan Diggs is he's not reporting to OTAs in Houston funny
