Xaviar Michael Babudar, popularly known
on social media as Kansas City Chiefs superfan “ChiefsAholic,” pleaded guilty today to
charges related to a string of 11 bank robberies, or attempted robberies. Babudar admitted that
he engaged in a string of nine bank and credit union robberies (or attempted robberies) in
2022 followed by two bank robberies committed while he was a fugitive from justice in 2023.
Babudar laundered much of the stolen money through area casinos and online gambling.
Babudar pleaded guilty not only to charges contained in the indictment here in
the Western District of Missouri, but also to the federal bank robbery charged by
indictment in the Northern District of Oklahoma. The FBI’s diligent investigation, in partnership
with law enforcement from multiple jurisdictions across several states, served to bring Babudar to
justice. More specific information about today’s guilty plea is available on our website. Under
the terms of today’s plea agreement, Babudar must pay more than $500,000 in restitution,
and he must forfeit to the government any property involved in his money-laundering
activity, including an autographed painting of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick
Mahomes that has been recovered by the FBI. Babudar’s violent crime spree across
the Midwest and beyond traumatized bank employees and victimized financial institutions
in seven states. He tried to conceal hundreds of thousands of dollars in stolen cash by
using it to gamble online and at casinos, but the odds caught up with him. With this
conviction, he will be held accountable for the full scope of his criminal conduct,
including his attempt to flee from justice.
