welcome our players from Kazakhstan Julia Putin [Music] [Applause] SAA and from Italy the number five seed Jasmine palini [Applause] we yeah it's already it's already a little bit for a of the is for for again e Jamie so ladies if I can ask you to have a photo with Jamie after the coin toss facing this way and then to remind us here we have clock in each corner and then behind us on this corn and video review is available so you can challenge the calls like hindrance not up through touch the video review is available on this cour okay you can challenge certain calls touch not up through hindrance okay any questions from your side no would you like to call it um head head a call you can to the coin Jamie thank you tails good match face this way please for the F Italy's Golden Girl made her first overseas trip to New York in 2013 11 years later Jasmine palini is about to Juke it out with the angel SL gangster clown ulia put in Savor for a place in the fourth round of this year's US Open but of course only if the rain stays away right now we've got got the roof open here on Louie Armstrong a warm welcome to day six of mangor action from the fourth and final major of the year at the USA Billy Jean King national tennis center hello and a very warm welcome to a match which must not be missed as it features two of the most inform women on the WTA tour looks like we're just going to take a little bit of a break as the roof will be closed here on Armstrong Court second Stadium court and this venue so we will wait a few minutes but it's a highly anticipated match along with Andrea pekovich my name is Candy Reed Andrea the heavy lifting first we' got to establish this so you the angel the gangster or the clown in this commentary Duo uh I'm the angel of course that means I'm the clown of course yes you are both clown and gangster where where is that from is that her it was something that Julia sa says about herself I like that it used to be um angel or gangster now she added a clown into it as well so I think she she likes to laugh at herself doesn't she and today hopefully she won't be laughing at all because she's trying to get into the fourth round for the second time she has been a quarterfinalist here at the US Open the fourth and final major of the year which we've seen some surprising results Andre what do you think so far let's talk about the men's side of things cuz we're going to focus on the women's but the men has this been a bit of a shock it's been a bit of a shock but has it really the Olympic year really messed everything up in a good way for Sam Novak I think is very happy with his gold medal I think he will get over his loss yesterday fairly quickly uh Carlos alcara seemed rattled by that loss in the in the gold medal match but I think it's just too much too taxing on the body the season is long in itself already but with the frequent surface changes it's it's just not making things any easier it is the only sport that has surface changes it is the only sport where players frequently travel from time zone to time zone from different tennis balls to different surfaces it's very challenging and the most adaptable player wins usually that is Novak jovic but even for him there was a bit much his earliest exit from the US Open in almost 20 years and Novak jovic will not win any major in 2024 I don't think that's happened since 2017 and it makes of course yanic sinner the big big favorite on the men's side but perhaps we'll see your Countryman Alex verev take a major title for the first time I actually so my favorite before the US Open was Carlos alcaras but yesterday I went out on a limb and said that I think Alexander verev might win get some German brownie points yeah well we'll see yes I have to you know stick with the flag but um but yeah I thought he played tremendously well yesterday very late in the night but still fought of ET very who played really well himself so that was a great match if you were still awake at that time or we just waking up over in Europe wherever you were we hope you enjoyed it and it's got a little bit darker here in Armstrong Court as the roof will be closed there's a little bit of hesitation as to whether we could keep it open but the decision is to close close it so essentially this will be an indoor match against UL Puttin saver and Jasmine palini how do you think that will sway things I think that might favor Pini a tad bit more because she has just a bit more Firepower than putina although putina has some very explosive muscles herself two of the quickest players on the WTA tour really have those fast twitching muscle fibers but actually thinking about it potena her first final ever was in St Petersburg that she reached and that is indor heart so maybe she will be reminded of those times when she did really well either way we are expecting to be a real battle here on Armstrong Court they're meeting for the second time their first matchup was when Jasmine palini beat Julia Putin saer in the semi finals in Porto Ro in 2021 it was a three set match and P the Italian went on to win that title her first she since added to that winning Dubai at the 1,000 level this year and of course she is Italy's Golden Girl isn't she because she teamed up with Sara Irani to win doubles gold at the Olympics medal with her countrywoman they are out of this year's doubles competition however though Pini and Irani so palini putting her emphasis very much on the singles a big Roar goes up from the crowd here on Armstrong courts the roof now closed and the players will warm up it's a battle of two players of exactly the same Heights on the shorter side anywhere on the WTA tour 54 1 M 63 Julia Puttin saver a year older than her opponent today weather conditions a little bit overcast a little bit cloudy as we take a look at at the women's singles draw this is the top half and the winner of this one will face either karolina Muka from czechia or Anastasia potapova Jessica ponche against Caroline Waki Andrea that's a bit of a surprising third round particularly for the qualified from France yeah I think it's her first time into the third round at a major ever and that is of course the section where rakina had to pull out of the tournament so a bit of an opportunity in this section of the draw mova and Pini maybe the more experienced on the bottom half of that section and then Caroline wasaki of course the most experienced up in that section of the draw so let's focus our attention first on this woman the 29y old who of course represents Kazakhstan these days she's come through a win over Linda nosova who just recently won her first WTA title and then beat Wong xinu for the first time in four meetings hasn't lost a set so far what do you like most about her game so I actually called her doubles match that she lost with Fernandez to the top seats the Browski and rli and I thought she was returning a lot more aggressive of course doubles is a bit different but I have seen her in Wimbledon as well when she beat the world number one IGA shant when she won in Birmingham and she just has a bit she's an incredible Defender so sometimes she relies on her footwork and on her Court coverage too much and she has just played a bit more aggressively this year and I think that's where all the success is coming from particularly on the grass cords and she can we talked about those muscle fibers those fast twitching muscle fibers that both women have and I think she just has a bit more on her groundstrokes right now working with Mato denti in the pair have done exceptionally well this year for Julia Putin sa at feran in the Box for Jasmine palini the 28-year-old Andrea who's had just a remarkable year with two major finals yeah absolutely that was one of the most fun storylines of the season on the women's side Jasmine Pini just the exuberance of Joy on the tennis court and I think that's the most important aspect of her game when she enjoys what she's doing she needs to play the game some players need to work the game she definitely needs to play it and she did so well this season it started already at the fat Cup last year now Billy Jean King Cup where she won three matches and only lost to Fernandez and I thought man she's looking mighty good and then she transported that confidence into the new year made the round of 16 at the Australian Open and then won in Dubai WTA 1000 but it was already in the works last season rarely these runs rarely ever come out of no nowhere you follow the tour closely you could tell something was brewing in no such thing as an overnight sensation yes exactly there is their only matchup in Porto Ro 2021 a tight match and I think we're expecting another one palini having overcome Bianca andresco in 2 hours and 48 minutes the third straight time in Majors they've met and then played three points against karolina Pisha before Pisha unfortunately retired with an ankle which she says is going to keep her out of the game now for quite some time Marana vich is our chair umpire for this one p has got her game face on and there is her team with Renzo fan on the bottom right they a very experienced coach who was an excellent player in his own rights Italy's Golden Girl made her first overseas trip to New York in 2013 11 years later she's about to Juke it out with ulia put in saver for a place in the fourth round of this year's US Open welcome to women's singles action from the fourth and final major of the year a match not to be missed it features two of the most informed women of the WTA tour palini to get us underway along with Andrea pekovich my name is Candy Reid here to talk you through the match on the Armstrong [Applause] Stadium we've had a little bit of a delay before this match already with the roof on Armstrong strong being closed few raindrops so the lines have since been dried and we're just waiting for a a board apparently to be fixed before we can get started well part of the day job isn't it Andrea the champ irees have to do much more than you think even fix the digital boards got their hands in a l of pies and of course professional tennis players as you would know uh pretty good at waiting they are that's part of the game 90% of playing tennis is waiting for practice and matches and the rest is actually playing play out 59 an attempted drop shot little short but we will see I'm sure many many more of those from this woman out fouram l out now you can see here already Pini attempting that backand down the line into the forehand side of putina that is the wing that can go off when she gets nervous that can be dropped a bit short into the court more possibilities for Pini to do something with we talked about their foot speed earlier on Andrea and that was clear to see but also the brains of you put SA she's such a smart player she's a very smart player really an allc Court player and this was a little mistake from Pini you should not approach crosscourt to just opens too many angles for the opponent especially somebody as crafty as Julia to pass you and she did well there a good start from Jasmine Pini playing in her eight US Open her fifth in the main draw this is the furthest she's ever got before woman who's won a total of 35 matches compared to just 15 defeats this year a round of 16 at the Australian Open a champion in Dubai at 1,000 level round of 16 at Indian Wales quarterfinal stutgart round of 16 in Madrid final at ring garos semi-final in eastor final at Wimbledon round of 16 at the Olympics and then again in Cincinnati it's been quite the 20 24 for the Italian and the same could be said for Julia Puttin saver she is having another excellent year one in Birmingham on the grass has three WTA titles to her name he continues to jump from one Purple Patch to another and you will see that often that forehand down the line with a lot of rotation on it she wants to have the game played over her backand and that shot ensures her to get many balls into a favorite side great job by Pini and neutralizing that shot that putina needs in her game to play her best this one right here High down the line hoping to get it into her backand but Pini goes around takes set on the rise and neutralizes the game plan 153 you putting sa always speaks a good game that's our coach matio denti [Applause] 154 lovely return from Jasmine palini and already the Italian with break points 134 this is my favorite quote of hers everything motivates me I want to show everyone in the beginning of my career it was pretty tough they were saying I'm too short too pushy too this to that well look at me right now you starts very wide doesn't she from that juice Court you can see Pini trying to close that space down taking a step to the right that is pua's favorite surf the short wide it stays nice and low not easy I think Pini should take maybe half a step to the front almost into the splits can't quite control it to juice you wow they're showing that on the big screen right now that's why there is a gasp in the audience not sure I would ever come out of that position again candy you might go down but you're not coming back exactly don't think I'd go down somebody please pick me up [Applause] she's trying to get balls High isn't she into that Pini backand works that time out juice service for magnificent point from the [Music] Italian that is very well done and that backand down the line that shut shut set up this shot this one right here that is not an easy one to do putina has a lot of rotation on her ball the ball moves in your strings and Jasmine Pini does break it was a slightly cautious return of serve but the Italian whipping around the Baseline gets back in it and breaks early got to be the racket new racket well she missed a few long so I think she is feeling like the strings are a bit too soft we talked about the Ever Changing conditions of tennis matches and roof closed or roof open is already a difference in how it feels to play here we have Reno you mentioned him before the classiest man on the WTA tour Maybe one of the best wasn't he great player good sa just sent her racket off the one she was using to be regripped by her coach have a seat quickly please thank you just having the roof closed Andrea what will that mean to the ball and the way this match perhaps will be played it will definitely be a lot more humid than expected here we see it putina already with five unforced erors most of most of them came long that one uh takes a bounce didn't sound awfully good when she did that yeah just rushing these Baseline rallies right now Mato is trying to gather her gaze that's more like it likes the targets doesn't say much does he Mato dinti sort of lets her vent at him but doesn't go back at her 4 C5 Jasmine palini overall a lot more even Keel of a character we will see that big bright smile of hers if she wins though she's looking good so far another really good hold from palini three love B lead three games to first set for [Applause] sh time it's been an outstanding start for the world number five Jasmine palini who's actually number four on the WTA race the top eight will make the WTA season Ender in Riad this year eanch the world number one has already booked her place seven more places up for grabs and it's very likely that the Italian will be going there 5 she's been a bit Wayward hasn't it for Julia put sa he's beaten Linda Nosa taken out Wong XU as well hasn't lost a set and here we have it beforehand that's we talked about it before cane That's the wing that when she is nervous just goes off a bit so far in this match it's flying long mostly that serve though so uncomfortable it stays so low what can you do if you're slightly over hitting it just indicates that she's not fully accelerating her wrist she's accelerating her arm so she's getting power on it but not really making a drop on the other side out four she's the kind of player isn't she that can turn things around quite quickly 4 30 said after her win a couple of days ago on the court I have different kinds of personalties sometimes it's a clown sometimes it's a gangster sometimes I'm feeling great and I'm happy she added I'm so emotional I think the people can see when I'm frustrated with something and when I'm enjoying playing and we can certainly see what she's feeling right now [Applause] [Music] so UL put in sa getting some encouragement from coach and she's up and running and don't forget you can download the US Open to follow your favorite players track scores and stats watch match highlights get player news and new this year you can watch live 3D views of all the singles matches it's available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store is really interesting candy both players are you mention it on the shorter side but both players are really good in defending their second serves and that speaks for their abilities of neutralizing rallies neutralizing big returns from their opponents the old adage you're only as good as your second serve are you a believer of that uh yeah I am I am yeah it's not the only shot in the game let's put it this way but somebody who defends well after second serve is mostly a good player and this is the first phase of the match where Pini is giving a few things over to putina a few more unforced errors maybe an opportunity for Julia to strike right back here what a volley and that's one of her biggest strengths Pini that she takes the game to her opponent in important moments she does not wait for the other one to miss wants to take Destiny into her own hands and does so very well here well perhaps advertised it a little bit it's break point Point chance for ulip hood and saber4 [Applause] you there been Pini responding right away out advantage of a messy game from the Italian but put sa was just decided not to miss and one more time courage under pressure by Pini saves another break point but put sa is in this match now she's not rushing the rallies any longer as she was in the beginning of the match so this has become a battle now for both women [Applause] [Music] Advantage longest game in the match so far a play who represents Kazakhstan really stepping it up another chance to break oh so clever back behind strength cini you out man candy things are a bit more complicated because palini is directing a lot more shots into the backhand side of putina in the beginning she was more disciplined in changing directions go earlier into the forehand side whenever she had the opportunity and that's why putina is missing a lot less has really arrived in this match now pressure building but still Beau put saer cannot convert Tatiana Garbin [Applause] here Italian Billy King Cup captain there's a look at that vicious backand if ulia couldn't Savor her first winner off that Wing today game very very clever from the clown gangster Angel put in save as she breaks back at the fifth attempts bini leads three games to two for set [Music] me time slow start for Julia Putin saver but she's caught up quickly and has just broken the Jasmine palini serve for the first time today so we're back on serve with the 30 seed now at 23 in this first set we Armstrong Stadium courts the roof is closed [Applause] love 15 what do you think Andrea changed from the first three games to now and then again has changed in this game I just think that Pini is directing a lot more shots in this game into the forehand again and you could see that forehand down the line that was a forced error then for putina it was just sitting up a little bit more and Pini can take it on the rise and really oh so clever from hen sa she's inviting pressure with the short ball which wasn't particularly good but how good is the L pushing palini back she has a lot of tennis IQ floating around that body Yulia putina really makes opponents very uncomfortable on the other side as wins over eash f here at Wimbledon and against Coco goof just recently in Cincinnati she is someone that no one wants to see on the other side of than that that's for sure [Applause] right shot from there yeah I think she just CAU it a bit above her shoulder I think if she had taken a step to the Forefront it would have been better but it's not so easy to do that forehand down the line is very heavy very deep of putinas have to have perfect perfect timing there's that high looping ball that she loves so much just doesn't give opponents the same shot twice so look at the roof on Armstrong just closed before this match got underway little bit drizzly outside it's quite cool temperatures quite humid as well man another thing candidat has changed puta is managing way better to keep Pini at Bay keep her behind the Baseline in the beginning stages of this match it was 4 33% for Pini of shots taken inside the Baseline only 11 for puena the last point was a perfect example of that Pini stepping inside the Baseline taking the ball on the rise and then she's able to take time away from putina who's so fast not easy to hit a winner against her [Applause] out Advantage Pini [Applause] that is a fantastic Point brutal hitting from palini as she's got the break right back B leads four games to two put a bit more Pace on her ground strokes here palini and right away gains ground on the court gets inside the Baseline again and dominates the Baseline rallies never got this far Jasmine palini in five maor appearances here at the US Open wins over both Bianca and dresu in the first round which was 64 in the third and played just three points against kolina Pisha when the women from CIA decided she was too injured to continue [Applause] 15 all ladies and Gentlemen please for the respect of both players please try to keep your voices down during play thank you Ariana valovich making sure everyone keeps in check for service well and Candy our amazing production team who works so hard behind the scenes just gotten the information to us that in the last game Pini was inside the Baseline only 20% compared to the first few games where she was dominating so that is definitely something to look for for the remainder of this match totally push back there way behind the Baseline good work from pu saber he's responded right away converted on her fifth break points in pini's last service game got two more chances here you got to love that low angle and you can see how much spin was on that surf that is an immediate break back for Julia put sa big reaction news 3 four bini leads four games to three first set two very different characters going head-to-head for a place in the US Open women singles fourth rounds so far Jasmine palini has won 30 points to Julia Putin Savers 27 time Julia Puttin saver was ranked world number 80 this February dipped into the top 30 for the first time in over three years currently ranks world number 32 ulip Putin saver just a few places off her career high having another Stellar year scooped up 35 match wins already this season now ready for play thank you adding to her titles with one on the grass courts of Birmingham her first title outside of clay courts please ladies at the back of the Court behind the player have a first available seat for now thank you two breaks a piece couldn't sa serving at 3-4 with the new balls out she'll get a little more pop as a result [Applause] T 1 15 that surf you know it's coming and it's so hard to handle because it stays so low and has so much Slice on it it keeps moving away from you you really need to approach it as quickly as you can Jasmine Pal's been very brave today do you think full her double work with Sani is paying off I think so I really think and here we have it 64% one when she does come to the net seven points already and I think it feels very natural to her now to move forward shorten the points when she can you see her closing that one down completely has closed that Sly serf visually making the room very small for putina [Applause] it's quite an edge isn't it good and sa working so hard to break back now once again in trouble Pini does break for the third time and now serve for the [Applause] set three Andrea you have played Jasmine I have played both you played both so tell me about firstly your match against the Italian so I played her before all of that success that we've seen her against together in the last few years and she was she had the best mindset I had ever seen in anybody she was so positive no matter the result the players first available seat for now thank you and back then she had trouble on the forehand side when you got into it with depth and pace beautiful and she has cleaned that up so nicely she almost never gets rushed anymore a few times if she plays somebody like sabalenka rakina who really have a heavy ball she can be a bit short on that shot but she doesn't really miss it anymore and that used to be the case two or three years ago and then Julia put in sa and Julia put in SA thing is the forehand is a lot weaker she can't really hurt you on that but she sends you left to right on that forehand side with a lot of spin so if you are disciplined and play into the forehand side that is weaker you will run a lot so you have to be in perfect shape to pull off that game plan cuz on the back hand she can hurt you with the slice with the drop shot with the back hand down the line she can play fastpaced it's really uncomfortable playing her both players really just couldn't say was General disposition it's quite intimidating yeah yes I mean we all know each other so it's I guess less intimidating once you know them and you guys actually very friendly and smiley off the court she has a completely different personality on the court she did say that off the court I'm different I'm Angel she said not always but my mom tells me that no she is she's really lovely off the court oh that's brilliant death from the record of Pini third to and I just favor her slightly in those forehand crosscourt rallies and I know Pini wants to change directions find a way in the net but when it all comes crushing down or when it's in when she's in doubt I think that forehand crosscourt rally she will win most of the points maybe not all of them but definitely the majority out now racket goes flying ulip saber it's not quite sure what to do here dampner comes off the racket sometimes those things are hard to find Just A Strange point wasn't it from Putin saver who had the opportunity to put the ball into the palini backand a little bit earlier on so set point time 45 minutes on the match clock and does it at the first attempt that is a strong first set from Jasmine Pini great start a got put in saor so Andrea it was a slow start wasn't it in the first set for put in sa what must she do better in this second set man that's unfortunate Miss but I do think she needs to do exactly what she tried to do here in the first two points she needs to again pleas a bit more aggressive thank you I'm just trying to calm the audience down here under the roof everything sounds even louder and it looks like like like she's doing just that there is a few more miles per hour on her ground strokes she's trying to take the game to Pini she saw in the first set what I'm doing my defending is not quite enough against Pini inform palini so I KN need to do more and that's what she's trying to do here [Music] cusa first game you have to think particularly for ulia in saor looking to respond right away from losing that opening set that's a feathery touch 14 [Applause] out didn't play at either the Paris PS or at Toronto UL put in sa due to a bad knee did come back to the game for Cincinnati though won a couple of rounds over Harriet Dart and then the big one Coco G and it is nicely done and those Drop shots are so good they are just not quite good enough for somebody like Pini I think most women wouldn't even have gotten to it but nice Court awareness from putina to be ready for the next shot after the drop shot as well out it's just that length isn't it and the pace that's coming through the court it's hurting seed exactly that combination that you just mentioned candy of the pace and the depth is just almost unplayable not just for putina for many players out there as Pini has shown this season we always think don't we if the players in the D being close to 6 foot now hitting the ball like a savena but it doesn't have to be the case it doesn't have to be the case at all and I think both of these women show it yes putina is a bit more defensive minded but the reason they are so fast and have such good Court coverage is because they have fast twitching muscle fibers and that applies also to how they hit the ball potena has a really fast backhand [Applause] those rackets of UL put in saver as you can imagine a pretty scuffed up didn't quite seem sure what to do on that shot did she yeah you could tell that she was trying to bail out off that rally such a brutal [Applause] combination I wonder if Pini she's closing it nicely to the side but whether she could maybe take a couple of steps back in sorry in not back closer to the line yeah back in exactly just to also cut the angle a bit so important hold for ulip put sa it wasn't comfortable particularly but she gets her in the end made a career out of doing that one love and a reminder that she does have a win over the world number one this year put in saver came at Wimbledon she'd won in Birmingham on the grass courts went straight to the all England Club took out Angie Kerber now of course retired Katarina sakova and then eant 62 in the third so Jasmine Pini to surf the world number five love one [Applause] 15 l out now this is just a fascinating contest candy both players trying to disrupt the Rhythm showing all their guile and craftiness fun match continues to come in on that forehand side gets away with it courtesy of the net Court for love that's a fantastic shot drawn off the court still able to hit the back and up the line one [Music] game so Yulia P saver described herself as a clown angel and a gangster how would you describe Jasmine palini I just I think a joy I think she feels a lot of joy for life for tennis and I think she spreads it to people around her and that's why she's so beloved you can see Armstrong Stadium here almost at full capacity oh that's what she does to most tournaments all around the world where people flock to see her just has so much fun playing and it translates the other thing I think it's incredible we talk about the players don't we that rise to the top so far she's been a little bit more of a slow burner failed to qualify here 2017 to 2019 lost in either the first round or second round between 2020 and 2023 but now she's found her game she's found the Next Level and sometimes it takes a while longer for players who are so crafty and talented because they have so many shots at their disposal it takes a while to gain the experience of when to play which shot at what time in what moment of the match 15 1 Pini started to playing tennis at the age of five thanks to her uncle born in a small City in Tuscany early chances here to take the break lead oh it's long back behind attempt out so Pini strikes 2-1 second set B leads two games to one second set and by one set to love [Applause] out 15 out game [Applause] inning out 14 13 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] time [Music] this is going to need a big comeback from ulia Puttin saver now down a set and a break in this third round women's singles match Jasmine Pini with the advantage decided to turn professional she was 15 Jasmine palini although she said there were many doubts about her height she was told she was too short to play tennis instead she went to the gym and really worked on her leg muscles made her very explosive oh yes very nicely done and puttina can also play at the net ulia reach the Cincinnati open Final in doubles with her partner Fernandez so both of these women do not necessarily avoid the space Around the Net once in a while you see a player hit a ball from the service line and move backwards Andre ruer she's missed it that was such a great rally just tried to be a bit too precise with it and that is what yes Jasmine pini's quickness around the court also does it makes you feel like the room is smaller than it is and you want to be even more precise even closer to the line but great tenners from both women here out just moving the ball around beautifully isn't she looks so much in control for yeah she really has mastered that controlled aggression right where it's not all out on the first few strikes but just building the point patiently until the opportunity arises and it's the beautiful study of the footwork it requires to be in perfect position each time as a tennis player out game so Jasmine Pini backs up the break quite special to beat her from here usopen.org your online home for Point BYO live scoring highlights real time stats and drawers you can visit the official tournament site at usopen.org Andrea Pekovic never leaves that site never just on it all the time yep out 5 all it was a great shot but it just seemed a bit like a shot out of desperation she is losing Clarity of how she wants to win points how she's going to build them consistently Maybe by hitting Aces that's a way first Ace of the match from either player and apparently it was 6 millimet in and defends her second serve really well a good hold for put and saber keeps her in the match three games to two second sets and by one set alive there time [Applause] team Julia Puttin saver running out of time just a little bit in this third round women's singles match she's got to ax soon and Pini is so good when she gets gets that neutral ball through the center of the court and she can go around nice setup here takes the energy from her legs through her upper body and that's how she creates that's how she creates so much Pace that forehand before was 87 miles per hour you like her forand I love her forand uses a lot of video analysis with her coach Renzo furan oh [Music] yes 30 all six backand winners now for the match from Putin saver compared to four on the forehand side now A little pressure on the fifth seed [Applause] this is put saver's first break point in the second set she doesn't get away with it I will give her that this was really unlucky it could have just as well gone over sa will get another chance had eight break points so far converted two of them [Applause] [Music] oh and it was a point well played by putina but Pini again just so ready for anything that drop short so well contested by pun and this one right here just drops a bit short and Pini right away inside the Baseline takes it on the rise too good this time put and saver makes the return just about got to make your own luck sometimes another game that's going over 5 minutes and it could be a pivotal game depending which way it goes [Applause] out Advantage this game good luck is not looking at Puttin SAA right now we told that ball landed 1 mm out wow sometimes the difference between Triumph and disaster out might pick on the forehand comes from polish garan and Italian descent does jasmine palini she says the garan helps her to be fast on courts the Polish gives her the determination and the Italian gives her the energy it's a mix she says and I'm really proud of it out just looks so match sharp doesn't she on the big points coming up with a nice serve just always so positive what a great mindset brilliant from Pini powerful and Punchy and she is two games away from reaching the fourth round here at the US Open for the very first time games to two second [Applause] ulia P saver showing her displeasure at this point just hasn't found an Avenue through maybe she needs something to work against her to bring out the fire yeah that is wor Satan you know Kandy I'm usually not against emotional Outburst I think they can actually give you some kind of adrenaline kick where the danger comes in when it's a continuous lingering anger underneath the surface it just infects everything in your game and it just makes you slow down and expand energy for nothing but if you can use it as a kickoff to just get things going like when she had that slow start how' you get out of that sort of slow burning frustration that's so hard because it's like an automatism you just continue to do it and sometimes somebody from the outside has to snap you out of it sometimes you just have to tell yourself come on pull yourself together but it's so hard sometimes a little like her good friend Danielle Collins actually fighting with the crowd or find something to be an angry out actually gets her to another level and takes her out of that yeah exactly yeah I think when you use it as a kickart of this is my adren adrenaline burst [Applause] 14 [Music] 15 out G looks up to the Ruth UL put in sa stern look in her face she's just keeping herself in the conversation [Applause] ladies and gentlemen the phys has been called to the courts much [Applause] ladies and gentlemen Miss Putin is now receiving a medical timeout I don't have you have a chair chair e e me Julia bu saver currently undergoing a medical timeout for what looks like blisters Jasmine palini Keen to get going once again she has a set and a break Lead 1 hour and 20 minutes or so has been played so far on Louis Armstrong Stadium courts the laces are being tied up did you ever struggle with blisters in your career I'm sure you did um actually I never did I'm sure you didn't yeah I never did I was lucky how is that possible I don't know just have really rough [Laughter] skin so you never went and had a a pedicure or a foot massage you just left your feet as rough as possible yeah exactly time but on the hardcour you can see it a lot especially when it's humid conditions the socks get wet and can be really uncomfortable for players out there ready for we are back and Jasmine Pini back on the front foot interesting statistic when she's won the first set in Majors this year she has won all 12 matches [Applause] thir 4 just hasn't quite in some of these moments Andrea been able to make Pini play enough yeah it just feels like she's waning in and out of intensity and that consistency that we are used to from her anomaly puttina and a lot of it has to do with how well Pini is playing and how she is really taking the game to her but she plays a great game puta eight fantastic points and then just three four quick ones and Jas palini has very little of those dips and that's why why you see the score being 63 53 even the even though we had games that were really battled over so Julia put in save the world number 32 serving to stay in the tournament was a quarterfinalist here in 2020 that was the best result she's really rushing right now just not taking any time between points and let's hope it doesn't translate into the game as well out doesn't know when she's beaten does she Jasmine palini got an answer for everything and that is what it's so tough when you play palini she has the offensive game but she can also stay in the point and Outlast you makes you really question your game plan point in point out and Causes Chaos in the opponent's mind out we were surprised when we saw this weren't we that y Puttin saber is fifth on tour this year for second serve points one on average she's been winning one of two second serve [Music] points game from Putin saber and now she must break oh sh [Applause] time trying to become the first Italian player in the open era to reach all major round of 16s in a single calendar year is Jasmine palini she's four points [Applause] away taken out two former US Open finalist so far in Bianca andrescu and karolina pishkova out and now attempting to end the major year of Julia Puttin sa thir [Applause] y just got confused here whether to take a forehand or backhand short moment out we're expecting this to be a very hard thought match Jasmine palini has continued her unbelievable season and now on the verge of moving through to the round of 16 1 hour and 33 on the match clock and she's done it jubilant Jasmine through to the of 16 here at the US Open for the first time she takes out the threat of the world number 32 63 64 in remarkable fashion that was solid all around from the bubbly likable Italian she's moving on yeah absolutely
