good morning I am Chris Lee of Southeastern 16 joined by Chase Robinson also of South Eastern 16 we've got Arkansas and Missouri to talk about both teams pitched shutouts in their opening night wins we're going live if you catch us on replay uh later um we appreciate you listening to that too I'm going to delay just a minute to let people get in the chat uh um but uh just a quick overview of the games we've got Arkansas winning 70 to nothing over Arkansas Pine Bluff that one was gosh a complete and total mismatch they played 10-minute quarters in the second half Arkansas scored on every possession Missouri I I thought Missouri left a little bit on the table but still scored a 51 nothing win Eli drinkwitz was happy afterwards we're going to talk about some things we saw in each game I got to watch most of both of them Chase had some other duties but did get some highlights and some plays here and there and then maybe some press conference footage watch both press conferences this morning so we can reflect on some things that the coach has thought too but uh Chase first of all um go ahead and tell folks who sponsors our content yeah bet online the world's most trusted betting thoughts on well I I guess you know first of all pitching a shut out anytime is an accomplishment I feel like I don't care who you're playing that takes some Focus all you can you know you can let up for one play have a couple guys get out of their Lane somebody bust the coverage or slips I thought that was a testament to focus maybe on on both teams last night in the SEC that won but let's start with Arkansas and look to to be fair uh Pine Bluff that that program they were the worst program in the country in division one last year of course they play at the FCS level according to sagon the line on this was about 50 points I think uh the computers were showing it in that range too sagron was this year I don't know how he does his preseason rankings he had Pine Bluff being a little bit better but that was a total mismatch from the start Arkansas dominated the line of scrimmage and of course U you know ran and did some things in the open field too I mean what they had 279 yards rushing 48 passing I think they had 400 and something yards at half if they had played the full 60 Minutes um I almost think Arkansas could have scored a 100 if it wanted to it was that big of a mismatch but at the same time skills are skills like guy guys are fast or they're skilled whether they play in Arkansas Pine Bluff or Georgia and the two things that stood out to me I really really liked what ton green gives them he's very smooth he's G to be a headache to contain in the pocket and I I think I liked to quendon Jackson their Utah transfer running back just as much or more on offense those were two things that really stood out to me they they spread the load around but jackon ran eight times for 101 green was what 16 of 23 for 229 two touchdowns and no interceptions look anytime you score seven touchdowns in in or excuse me 10 touchdowns and 10 possessions I don't I don't care who you're playing that that's pretty much a perfect game on offense yeah it is and uh I think that uh can can give the Arkansas fans something a little bit to be excited about I mean again it's it's Arkansas Pine Bluff it's it's not you know a team in the SEC it's not Oklahoma State who you're going to see next week but um hey your offense went out they they were able to score they were able to move the ball again you mentioned pitching the shut out I mean says something about your defense um not even allowing a field goal um for for Pine Bluff and so uh yeah I think there's a lot to be excited about after the first game again there's a lot to learn but just as I was going through kind of looking at the box score uh for this game again I was not able to uh to watch these games last night uh covering some other football but ton green 16 of 23 passing 229 yards uh a couple of touchdowns um and then I was I was interested to see what the the rest of the quarterbacks would look like for Arkansas as I was uh keeping up with the the score of this game I thought well we're going to get to really find out about the the backups for Arkansas Malachi Singleton 8 for10 120 yards so AJ Jackson four for four 59 yards passing so um that was good of course T green like you said able to to get it done on the ground as well and and then yeah what I've seen from Quinton Jackson I think he's going to be a a really bright spot for Arkansas this year and I think uh the fans have a lot to be excited about with Jackson and um I think he could be be a name we're talking about this season uh if if he can maintain that level of running U the rest of the season yeah and and when your quarterback runs for 88 yards too and I guess Taylor green played like a half I mean they went to Malachi Singleton and KJ Jackson after that I think i' have to check my notes and let me do that while we're speaking Yeah Jackson was in high school this time of year ago Singleton was a red shirt freshman last year who didn't play a game they got Singleton eight of 10 for a buck 20 uh and then Jackson was four of four for 59 so look it is really rare that you get a quarterback through a whole season as a starter in this league and I think that was another bright spot look Arkansas played I think Sam pitmas had 83 guys last night and who knows that was in his press conference they may have slipped a couple kids in on special teams that he didn't know about I mean it just it was a mismatch from the first couple of minutes and so I think I mean gosh you had one two you had nine guys carry the ball oh you had 12 or 13 guys get matches I mean they cleared the bench in this one and that's what you got to do in these games I mean let guys get in there get touches get catches uh work your quarterbacks I mean there there's no better experience than when you're facing another team no matter who that team is and so I think this was really good for Arkansas a good way to open up the season um you know I think that uh anytime you win a game that gets fans excited and again for the rest of the schedule that Arkansas has like um they they they can be excited about this they can use this they can kind of build on this this confidence and uh again no matter who you're playing you want to go out and win you want to go out and prove something and I think Arkansas did a good job of of proving that last night all right we uh got a lot of people in the audience pitch on in on the chat tell us your thoughts from the game last night we're going to discuss Arkansas first then we'll get to Missouri in a little bit I think Chase another thing that stood out Arkansas's I mean they really dominated both lines of scrimmage but particularly on the defensive side I mean Arkansas had I think 200 and something yards of total offense uh before Pine Bluff got above zero and I think you know the defensive line just controlled everything last night Pine Bluff ran 23 times for seven yards know some of those were sacks I know but I thought you know that Landon Jackson is leading you know they're probably the best player on that team but I thought they had other guys last night step up too and and really dominate in the spot that you wanted to see them dominate yeah I mean just as I was uh again looking through the box score of this game afterwards and then uh again this morning um when I noticed that Arkansas Pine Bluff only had seven yards rushing I thought wow this is you know this that says a lot again it's Arkansas Pine Bluff but again any any time that a a defense only allows seven yards rushing and then I looked even farther at there was a a you know one player had minus 14 yards rushing I mean so that I think that shows a lot about Arkansas there there are some really good things on this defense that again they don't slip up any and allow a big play or or two uh running the ball they didn't allow many holes for for Pine Bluff to run through so um I I think that was impressive just that they were able to stop the run uh the way they did again no matter who they're playing yeah and and I think Arkansas knew what this was I mean Pine Bluff got a uniform penalty uh Arkansas could have taken a 15 yard penalty against Pine Bluff to start each half but they were wearing black uniforms last night was Pine Bluff which usually the the home team gets I don't know if that was a thing that they pre-arranged and Pitman just said we'll decline the penalty or they just did it and and Nathan Klein uh long Tim here points out sategna had a punt return call back as well Arkansas I'm not going to say got sloppy but they they left a little bit on the table too um you know there was another I think there was an interception return for a touchdown maybe that got called back or maybe it was the pun I can't remember I was watching both games and both of them got out of hand quickly um so so Focus Wayne a little bit um and Devin pointing out if you compare to Western Carolina a huge difference in performance on the line of scrimmage yeah there was there was also there was also a big difference in opponents I think was Western Carolina the team that that led um Le NC State last night oh um that half uh I think it I think so yeah um but but he's not but he's not wrong either I mean like you want to see a team get an identity and I feel like with Bobby patrino you you saw one last night a little bit yeah uh and you saw the physical identity they wanted on defense it really started in the trenches so I think if you're if you're saming Pitman you give this one and eight plus yes it it was Pine Bluff they're awful but but don't look a gift horse in the mouth you came out you took care business yeah even the first drive was a little sloppy at times but I mean it didn't take long to correct it and I think when you when you show up that focus and just dominating the like you you know seven the only thing they could have done better on on offense really was was maybe go for two instead of kick an extra point I mean when when you score I don't know that I've seen a team as long as we've done this score on all 10 possessions like like they did last night yeah I mean that that that's impressive that doesn't happen a lot like again and I think that was a um uh when what Devin said up there a huge difference in performance and domination on the line I think he hit it he hit the nail on the head there I mean I I think he's spot on there there was a big difference uh from from last year to this year for sure yeah and and if you're asking me takeaways because you adjust your takeaways to what's in front of you who they played uh but I would say and this is a little bit repetitive and I'm doing that for people that have joined us late I think two things the physical presence up front on both lines of scrimmage again that's something Sam Pitman wanted kind of built their Identity On and number two I just think they are they are better it feels like at the quarterback position and and I think they are improved at the tailback position now that that's I'm I'm comparing uh quinon Jackson to um rocket Sanders who was hurt last year and that's not fair but I feel like their rushing tack I really I feel like Jackson's got a little bit of open field burst that maybe they were lacking year I think Arkansas my suspicion given Bobby petrino's history of developing offenses maybe going to be a little tough ride out than most people thought coming this season because I just think you can see obviously just in terms of raw talent and and KJ Jefferson was a good player too and got hit a million times that affected him but I just think green they a little different uh Jefferson was just kind of a could kind of be a bulldozzer Green's a little bit more of a taller maybe a little bit leaner athlete uh who's maybe just a little bit faster but I I just I I see what they saw in T and green and Jackson I think that's one that maybe we didn't talk about enough last year because he produced for a Utah team that was pretty good and it would have been probably a lot better if they if their quarterback situation had been right a year ago yeah I I like what Arkansas has done obviously um with bringing Bobby patrino back who's going to lead this offense but uh the pieces they put in yeah I I think ton green is is going to be a bright spot this year you mentioned Jackson like they need a guy like that they um you know they need other um players to step up and and when you again when you have a quarterback who can run when you've got uh Jin Jackson who can run when you got green who can throw it they got a a good uh bunch of receivers who were able to get in last night I I think this offense is going to look much different and again yes you look at the opponent last night but the offense did look much different I feel like um they were on sync they were moving the ball well and I think that's what we can almost expect now that Bobby patrino has brought in this offense who is going to be able to move the ball consistently they also spread the targets around we talked about Monty Harrison he got a couple of catches last night two for 29 that's a great story I think some of you may not know Harrison was a professional baseball player I think a second round pick in the 2014 MLB draft just got cut last year decided to get back into football as a 29y old walk-on so he got in in the game last night that was a good story um you know just a long it's a long box score here I think 23 24 guys listed on the defensive side uh they didn't really you know they went to lukos I think three for 42 I think he's the guy that I'm most concerned about downfield of from other teams but I think they got to rest him Jordan Anthony they and him transfer got in the game he had three catches for 46 in the first half uh he's a little bit higher on the depth chart maybe than than I thought he would be coming into the season so yeah I mean it's going to get a lot tougher next week with Oklahoma State on tap but I I think that you built confidence you established an identity you showed us maybe this team's got some talent and that's all you can ask yeah that is and uh in a game like this absolutely it is and I think uh I think the Arkansas fans are excited I think they should be uh I think that uh there's a potential for some good things to happen for Arkansas and maybe things go differently than than maybe we've been talking about uh in in the preseason and so um you know again we'll find out a lot more next week against Oklahoma state but I I think there is based off if you you look at the past you compare this to the past to last night I think it does look much better okay let's talk Missouri in Murray State for a bit by the way if you're joining us late we will have this available um on our website later on replay uh so you can catch everything that you might have missed um Chase that's another one I watched and I think I think Murray State would probably beat Pine Bluff by 20-some points I think yeah NE neither of them's good but Pine Bluff was that bad uh Murray State though got run out pretty early um Missouri got up 28 nothing and I think and you didn't hear Eli drinkwitz complain about this last night but um I thought it got a little sloppier after that I think they could just kind of Coast they had a a gadget Play where uh Luther Burton got it I can't remember if it was a wildcat quarterback situation or an end round but fumbled the snap or the handoff or whatever it was they turned one over um they missed some guys downfield had open I think maybe some throws that Brady cook hits um you know may maybe a little further into the season and Drew Pine I think missed a long one too although Pine was 10 of 11 fredy2 yards that may have been the only one he missed I I thought for Missouri it was a decisive win you got a pick six on on one end uh from you transfer safety from Clemson whose Name Escapes me at the moment um gosh who was that that was um anyway you you know who I'm talking about um Pride Toriano Pride that's that's the guy um you know again situation where they cleared the bench and I did see some reserves on this team that I like that I'll get into a little bit too but I I I thought that one could have been worse but hey you you at the end of the day you got a shut out you were pretty dominating when you get a 51o win uh you don't really pick a ton of nits here yeah Brady cook uh through 218 yards uh touchdown running throwing um you mentioned the interception uh Luther Burton touchdown catch uh Nate noell Marcus Carroll touchdown runs I mean uh it pretty much what we expected uh we expected all those guys to um to play well to score to you know to win this game big and um you know I I think a lot of people including myself were wondering what the running back situation would be like um I was impressed with with the highlights I saw from Marcus Carroll and Nate Noel I mean obviously Cody Trader will be missed for Missouri but I like what those two guy guys bring I mean uh Noel came from App State Carol Georgia State and uh Noel carried the ball 11 times 48 yards Marcus Carroll uh carried the ball six times for 35 yards and um yeah I think that the Run game is is going to be good again obviously you got Luther Burton to catch the ball and and and there's some bright spots in the backup quarterback position as well Drew Pine of course at Arizona State last year was at Notre Dame uh before uh Pine went in there 10 for 11 82 yards um uh Lacy the The Freshman running back got some carries so it was a really good night for Missouri as well I think uh I think there's a lot to be excited about there and and you kind of got a taste of of what the some of the different positions are going to be and and who who's going to fill those roles yeah if you're picking nits they again they left some things on the table offensively uh missed some big plays downfield weren't super explosive 7.3 per pass 5.1 per rush I would have expected maybe better but look you had a 28 nothing lead you didn't have to show a lot from that point and one reason you're able to do that and just grind it out is because your defense allowed 86 yards and no points um and just really dominated a line of scrimmage I think that was I'm not I'm not gonna say that playing Marie State like is is a good litus test for you know whether you have no concerns or not but yeah I I think that's where we had some of the questions they lost some really talented players they lost what three starting DBS off that team last year they lost a first round lineman lost Tyron Hopper who was a super productive linebacker there are some guys gone off that team now look they reloaded exceptionally well through the portal Eli drink wit is probably you know this side of Lane kein about as good as that as anybody in this league but you they could have lost focus at some point giv up some big plays I thought the defense showing up the way that it did was sort of you know maybe one of my bigger takeaways that that's something you wanted to see and you got it yeah um I I agree with that and and uh again you you will find out more about this Missouri team as we we move through the season I mean uh you know next week they've got Buffalo then Boston College and then vanderbild and so these first four games are you know they're they're they're not the toughest by any stretch of the imagination but um I think this I think the team's in a good position and I think what they've done on defense and what they really they had to do I mean they they lost so many guys of course to the NFL and and everything and so they they had to rebuild they had to reload and I don't think it's necessarily rebuilding because they were good L you they they had to reload like you said and I think they did a good job of that and and I think people are excited to come play at Missouri now and I think that's uh and what we saw last night is a reason why yeah and another thing for both these games I mean in in terms of taking care business both of did that's not a guarantee SMU struggled with Dada last week as a 20-some point favorite you had I think Western Carolina up on NC State at the half or or close to the end of the half uh anytime you've got all these new guys sometimes it doesn't always click and and I felt like you know I I give Arkansas an A+ for last night T I might give Missouri more of an A minus or a B+ because again I felt like they left some opportunities out there but it's never a guarantee and so you gotta Gotta Give Them hats off for both those things yeah and um it's the first game um you know it's again when you have a lot of new players and this is just the the day and age we're in in college football where every team is going to it's going to it can take a minute to get on the same page and and uh and everything but uh yeah I thought certainly two good wins great way to start off SEC play for Arkansas and Missouri uh for SEC football that is and and just excited both of those teams got the wins they did and uh and I think both teams are gonna be winning some more games this year now I'm trying to remember did Missouri play a quarterback other than Brady cook last year I feel like he took almost all their snaps I mean they did I I it it was not often though I mean I don't think they were in many positions where they could um you know just throw a guy out there so he he he took a a large chunk of their snaps I'll say that yeah I mean I I think one thing that stood out as I watched that game late Kian Lacy who got a lot of carries late for them I guess he's their third back he's a freshman from Dallas uh he was really physical like yards after contact he's not the biggest guy he's 51 196 but he runs really hard they had that physical back last year with Cody shra and look I like the two transfers they brought in um probably liked Carol better than Noel last night Noel I feel like Noel had some some nice runs that showed some burst yeah long run with nine but I think he had a touchdown there that could have gone a little further um if I remember correctly but I I thought that I think that was one of the questions we had about Missouri too what's the running game look like because you lost the guy that was with apologies probably to Ray Davis was the best back in the League last year I don't think anybody would really debate that and brought that physical toughness and playmaking ability yeah but uh you got I thought you got three guys that that you know two you're pretty sure that Noel and and Marcus Carroll can play based on what they did at Appalachian State and Georgia State and and I think Lacy showed you hey you got a third guy in the mix too if somebody gets hurt or you just need a different look yeah and you know I think credit the offensive L some too for creating some space and and letting the the Run game uh look good last night so and and we knew coming in talking with um Gabe de Arman up there who covers Missouri uh telling me hey this offensive line is good I mean they uh they they've got the the Personnel that they like and and that they need on that uh offensive line to help the Run game no matter who's back there uh Cody shraer or not and so credit the offensive line I think they did a good job last night as well yeah just clarify something when I say left something out there I'm talking about Missouri not Arkansas um Missouri missed a couple of long throws last night again you had the turnover uh but but we're picking it m when you're up 28 nothing and you know you're controlling the line of scrimmage the other team's not I mean you just kind of adjust your expectations and Coast from there but look when you're when you're talking about these games there's not a lot of takeaways you have to kind of be a little more critical when things don't go well and maybe find the things that you think are sticky going forward yeah and I mean um you know it we keep going back to who they were playing and and obviously a win's a win and it's good to get a win but um yeah I think I think these two teams did well with the teams that they were playing and and the opportunities that they were given and yes first game but I think both of them uh did a did a really good job and so I think these are going to be two fun teams to watch that is for sure yeah um going forward do you feel differently about either of these teams no I I don't well I mean I think Arkansas may be a little better than we thought offensively um you know there's just so many questions going in to uh to the to the year that you know I'm uh I knew the offense would be better but uh I think that uh I think they will be better than maybe I thought they would I think Taylor green fits this uh really well fits the offense well so I think Arkansas may be a little better but I think Missouri is right on right where we uh right where we thought they they would be at this point yeah I certainly didn't come out feeling worse about either team and you saw some identity out of Arkansas that you wanted to see but quickly Chase we got one more tonight we got Oklahoma making its debut as an SEC member against a very overmatched Temple team I think the line is around 40 we may or may not recap that one tonight live or I may save that I think I'm going to do a live stream tomorrow at 8 kind of an SEC game day thing I might be doing that on on my by myself but I think we're going to try that um really looking forward to seeing Arkansas tonight I mean Arkansas Oklahoma tonight um just a new era of football can't can't wait to watch that one I know it's not the most exciting game they'll play but I just want to see what it looks like with Jackson Arnold in that Bunch yeah kind of similar to what we were looking for in in these two teams last night Arkansas seeing what their offense looked like um seeing what Missouri kind of post coded Shader looked like I think there's a lot to look at at Oklahoma tonight as well um you've got um you know obviously you mentioned Jackson Arnold uh coming in what we think could be a really good defense for Oklahoma wouldn't surprise me if there's a zero on their final score uh when we look at it later tonight um as well so yeah I I'm I'm intrigued by Oklahoma uh I think they've flown under the radar a little bit I think this could be a really good team and and obviously like these games Temple is is not an SEC team uh you know Oklahoma again is is breaking in some new guys but I think it could be a really fun night for the Sooners uh tonight in their uh debut as an SEC football team all right I'm G put you on the spot on your way out you can only watch one game involving SEC teams tomorrow you get 14 to choose from which one you pick oh man um I'm going to go I'm gonna go A&M Notre name that's the one I'd pick too because I think it could have playoff implications I I want to say Florida Miami just out of curiosity I want to see that one but I don't think I don't think that's gonna have the stakes because I I just Florida's schedule's not going to allow it to get to the playoff I mean some people may be people laughing at that thinking well it's not going to happen anyway I think their team's better than people think but the schedule's brutal I think that's the one to Circle but Florida Miami is really intriguing now I don't think that really affects Miami either because I think they can make the playoff by winning the ACC and and drop this one but I I think that's where I would go to so anyway Chase I know you got to get out of here uh just reminding people we will wrap up Oklahoma either tonight or in the morning either way hit that
