UCF Football takes down Sam Houston State in Week 2, 45-14

[Music] Trey trco joined by Andrew chero in the Bounce House following the night's 4514 win over Sam Houston State UCF now 2- 0 All Eyes last week Andrew on the performance shaky performance of quarterback KJ Jefferson he was your key to the game in this one pregame what do you think of his performance in the win over Sam Houston well yes the three keys to the game for me was for UCF to get the ground game dominated early make Sam Houston Press the Box get one-on-one defense and then quick and easy throws get the ball out fast get KJ comfortable and UCF did exactly that they got KJ G slant routes out routes screens which eventually led to him being able to throw it downfield to Randy Pitman and Kobe Hudson for some big games you mentioned the running game nearly 400 yards rushing following more than 450 in the win over New Hampshire RJ Harvey four rushing touchdowns let's hear from coach malan and the rest of the you know uh he he uh he's settling down he's understanding the offense uh he ran the ball extremely hard and physical on a power read early on uh you know he threw the ball vertically down the field very good of course we figured that would happen so yeah we're real pleased with his performance and uh like I said when you can run the football like we've been able to run the football the last uh two games a whole lot uh better uh just coming in had a great week of practice preparation so I knew just coming in to this I been a love with the game plan and I knew we was going to start off fast and get into a r quick so uh just a great game plan by me and also the coaching staff as well just me communicating things that I like play that I like and so we just came out there and just executed practicing hard each and every week going against our defense and uh you know our defense they they they way better than last year so uh they push us they help us out and the looks that they give give us throughout the week that just helps us during the games where do you think this team defense is after two games um we still got a long way you know um we came in gave up three points to uh New Hampshire you know came in gave up two touchdowns but at the end of the day you know we just got to be the defense that we are you know the defense that coach want us to be and just going out there and executing like at the end of the day that's all that matters two games two wins what more does this defense need to show um well it's always um more to improve we just need to go back in the Playbook and just just read our keys just be disciplined um get in the film room it's always room for for more defensively Andrew the knights forced a couple of turnovers and scored off of those turnovers you had an opportunity to speak with Sam Houston State's coach following the game yes I had the opportunity to speak with Sam Houston State head coach Casey keer and he flat out said they were not delusional they knew UCF was the better team going into the game UCF played better zone defense Play Better Man coverage they Blitz better and they forced pressure which allowed the turnovers for UCF to get down to the Red Zone let's hear from coach keer we're not delusional we we knew we were playing a very good football team and we thought our best chance of winning was to execute and when the bolts are flying boy we did not execute you know the number of blitzes that we didn't run that were called the number of line movements number of routes that weren't right I mean you know when you play a good team your best chance of winning is to execute we played to the end they're just really good up front I I was disappointed I thought we'd do a better job blocking them uh if you look what we did the week before I thought we did a good job with what they thought was a good defensive front against rice and I thought we really you know handled them pretty easily and so we knew going into this game we weren't delusional like we knew this was going to be a good football team on both sides of the ball especially offensively with the weapons they have at running back um but you know we just didn't we just didn't execute so Andrew as Ed two games for the knights 2 and0 but now things are about to get real Knights travel to Fort Worth they take on TCU Big 12 opener on the road what are you looking for from the knights I mean the main question is is KJ Jefferson going to be able to carry this performance against Sam Houston into TCU he had a solid game but the competition is going to get better same thing for the running back room they've been dominant throughout these past through games but are they going to perform better behind their old line that is going to face higher competition and lastly the defense has only had one sack in two games so are they going to be able to get to a quarterback when the o line is going to be that much better in quality we're going to spend all week talking about this one it's going to get interesting I will be in Fort Worth for coverage for the Suns of UCF for the birthday boy Andrew Jericho happy 21st I'm Trey trco go nights Char John [Music]
