welcome to Lincoln Nebraska and to play some of the games Immortals have called home Johnny the jet Frasier Crouch Rosier and many many more have built this big red Legacy as this crowd is ready to cheer on their beloved Corn Huskers this match up today part of the lifeblood of the sport a rivalry game where the results will be remembered for a lifetime as we see a squad from the Big 12 the Colorado Buffalo taking on a team from the Big 10 the Nebraska Corn Huskers for EA Sports college football I'm Rees Davis David poock and Jesse Palmer with me guys it's time to get it [Music] going the buffalos will put total leather and will get started he'll bring it back from inside his five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 the Corn Huskers offense will get the first crack at it here and the adrenaline is pumping on overdrive in games like this guys and it's crucial to get your emotions under control no doubt in rivalry games you've got to limit the mental errors and you've got to limit the penalties cuz those will kill you p and you got to come out under control it means so much we know that the fans are all talking about it but it's just football picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down he's got it again tried to move that pile forward he maybe gets two he's down at the 21 I know you want to prepare for every game the same way but there's just something different about rivalry games Jesse it's because ree I think players are aware that games like this Define your legacy as a player your record in rivalry games is something that people are going to talk about for years and years down the road you have got to show up and play your best football in games like this they'll get him on the ground at the 46 and it'll be a first down well you love to see this on the first drive of the game right third down go back to the old faith the slant pass something you put in on day one install back in Spring practice executed perfectly keep this drive alive the Corn Huskers with the first and 10 power football with the Run they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one linebackers have such an amazing responsibility got to play run got to play pass how about this seeing the Run aggressively getting downhill and getting in the back Back Field and making the tackle for a loss lost one on that last one it's second and 11 dropping back it's Rola gets it out quickly and good coverage by the defense just a short game such a great job by the defense winning on early Downs what does that mean now it means third and long third and long now I go to Dime packages to Nickel packages I'm taking linebackers off the field and bringing on DBS to really cover more guys and have more speed on the field on Third and long trying to have a big completion here wide open downfield touch down husers a great catch and run for six you want to talk about a great way to start the game and set the tone early it's so nice to have a quarterback just get himself into the game and get himself established you make a couple throws you lead your offense down the field you score right off the bat could not have been a better start for that [Music] QB Pat unit on the field and the extra point makes it seven nothing so that scoring Drive took only six plays and the finisher coming on a touchdown pass from 52 yds out the kickoff team out there and ready to go and he'll return it and try to get behind his blockers really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 so Colorado's offense will try to get something started with their first possession and a big key as this game unfolds is just how aggressive will he be throwing the football at a lock down corner like that yeah and when you're an elite quarterback you think you can do whatever you want to do and you think you can make the right decisions I'm interested to see how much he'll test that quarterback on the other side you know there's a saying there's no defense for a perfect pass but he's got to be extra careful and sharp when he's throwing that guy's way and the buffalos will hustle to the line he'll try to pop the draw tried to move that pile forward he maybe gets two he's down at the 21 they have had to wear that beat down since the last time these two met Jesse and they've been talking about it for a long time they were absolutely embarrassed the players the coaches the fans you know David coming into this game this time they want to put out a much better performance oh there there's nothing worse the coaches are riding you all week leading up into this fires a bullet now it's picked off trying to take it back and they'll close in on him after a good return on the interception you now after watching that interception I just wonder if this kid's too amped up tonight he was so excited to take the field he thought this was going to be a game that he could stat it up and he's going to have to do a better job tonight with his decision making that is not how you want to start a game the corn Oscar ready to go back to work on offense how about that last drive just carved him up in the air David yeah and how about that quarterback you lets it fly deep downfield he was open he had it and he dropped it would have been a touchdown instead it's second down and perfect timing got there right when the ball got there didn't get there a little bit early saving the touchdown nice timing by that Defender here comes the offense on second down they'll leave it with him trying to run it in in the Red Zone he's got four and he's down at the [Applause] 12 boy there they'd love to pick up this conversion and go to work with a first and goal running back goes in motion on Third and long try to convert through the air and here comes the Heat and they get home and they get him at the 21 great timing by the defense there obviously the offense has the ball in the red zone and you're trying to create a negative play to back them up they do that with the sack and if they're now going to try a field goal it's going to be a little more work for the kicker and they'll send out the field goal unit this try will come from the left hash and he'll try to curl it in from 38 never a doubt right down the middle and that lead grows even bigger you've got to make the opponent pay for turning the football over and while this team would have liked to have scorn a touchdown off that pick I think they're pretty happy [Music] get after putting up a three- spot the kickoff unit set to go he'll bring it out from inside his own 10 and they'll bring him down to get the offense started on the next Drive how about this CR rattling the rafters and trying to help their defense out of the gun the running back has it good vision and determination there to find his way up to the 23 well it's plays like that that will help this offense stay in Rhythm all game long if you can have that kind of success on first down running the football it just opens up your entire Playbook moving forward and the Buffalo headed quickly to the line [Applause] using the quick game and he's knocked down immediately but not before he moves the chains well we knew coming into this game this offense was going to try and get this receiver involved and get him involved early so here they are just finding an easy completion it's not a touchdown but they just want to get this guy lathered up and get him into a r and they'll line up from the 31 on first down he's going to pass fires to the wide out makes the grab good job running that route to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the catch yeah and you've seen these C routes this is a timing route understand the ball's got to come out of my hand right when he hits the top of that curl nice job by the QB finding him nice catch the buffalo's have it with a first and 10 used the play fake now to throw he wants to take the top off grabs it inside the tag and he takes it all the way they couldn't stop him tdch down Colorado well as a defense you know you're going to see the go route especially against this guy he does it to defenses it seems every single week and so they're not able to get back deep enough they get run by he makes the catch and then runs it into the end zone they're going to have to change up their coverage and get some safety help up over the top because this guy's speed is a problem they'll try to attack one more on their [Applause] score and it's up and good as they draw Just a Touch closer quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and the scoring play coming on a 56 yd touchdown pass the kickoff team on the field as they'll send this one away on the move from inside is five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 and here comes the Nebraska offense back onto the field they'll try the Run just searching and working for the Running Room as he gets it out to the 26 coaches always harp about staying ahead of the chains and when you can run with that type of efficiency on first down man you are doing just that eight- yd pickup on first down leaves them with second and [Applause] short here's the handoff and they make the tackle but he has plenty for the first down well when you talk Nebraska football it always comes down to their ability running it on offense whether it's the option or whether it's conventional they've got a long and illustrious history of great running backs and this guy is on the field for a reason his vision his ability to make people Miss run with toughness he can do it all the give to the back stopped after a pick up of four good run to get it out to the 34 nice run there on first down you know this is a running back that gets better as the game goes on so they're going to want to make sure they keep feeding him the football let him get lathered up solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six from the gun they'll try the middle he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple well the linebacker showing you read and react he knew exactly where that running play was going and he beat the football to the line of scrimage image and force the tfl they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this [Applause] one it'll be a draw and it is a good idea to gang tackle first guy couldn't get him second guy finally did but with the weapons this offense has you knew it was just a matter of time in the Run game before someone was going to break a long one they just been running into a wall they just couldn't seem to find their creases and get enough movement up front but they finally got it there picking up the first let's see what happens next the give to the back able to scr three yards out of that one somehow it's second and seven you know I think a big part of this isn't necessarily scoring a touchdown on that plate but you're just trying to get your offensive line in the rhythm of the game what those Big Fellas get lathered up got three on first down it's second and seven been showing them the run now they'll throw it in complete and he threw that one up for grabon into traffic and fortunate to get it back and that's why these guys played defense if that were an offensive player receiver that would have easily have been a catch come on man you've got to catch that and make that a pick a chance to sort of put the defense on its heels if you convert a third and long this one from the 44 scanning the field it's Rola looking left a strike downfield they'll move the chains good execution on third down they've got it at the 41 that is going to drive this defensive coordinator it's a lot of DCs they focus a ton of energy on how their unit performs on third down and in the Red Zone if this defense gives up a couple more third down conversions like that they're going to be in for a very unpleasant film session on Mond not much working there it'll be second and nine Run game is good balance is good now listen if the Run game isn't good then you got to pass the football a little bit more but sometimes you got to keep them honest take them chunk by chunk didn't get much on first down it's second and nine out of the gun the inside handoff looking for a crease and he's able to bounce off one tackle but still not a whole lot of Running Room and as an offense having success on a run play like that early in the game just opens up all the possibilities of your playbook moving forward play action running the ball throwing the ball screens anything is at your disposal at this point they'll snap it from the gun on third down and the incomplete pass will bring up fourth down yeah and third and short that choose not to run throw the football and I think a lot of that has to do with they know their in field goal range they can take the three points on the board and here comes the field goal unit for the second time tonight and he's going to have to get into this football this is a 53 yd attempt kick is good the offense has three points to show for the drive well that kid just showed off his hammer for a leg 50 plus and he did it with ease [Applause] so after putting three on the board some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 Colorado has the ball back and the Buffalo hoping to put their team in Prime position on offense finds a little bit of space gets three to the 22 small gain I know but again the defense knows he's going to run the football he's willing to run the football not just drop back and pass make him on to the Run game you got to do a lot of this and the buffalo's moving quickly to the line from the gun they'll try to impose their will he's stuffed after picking up one to the 23 better find the earplugged here comes the noise backing this defense on third down dropping back it's Sanders and the heat gets there and they get him down at the 14 yd line when it's a playaction pass that quarterback he really has to sell the fake he can't tell his offensive lineman's getting beat right away while he's selling the fake he had no [Applause] shot and the buffalos will try to pin them back with the punt [Applause] he'll take it on the return he was working his way toward Midfield but they'll stop him at the 46 yd line as they get set to snap it time winding down here in the quarter they'll run the RPO and Fire to the right he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see which way that's going to [Applause] go so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty while we're only through one these quarterbacks have been lighting up their stat lines heading in the opposite directions now as we Crank It Up in the second a first down for the [Applause] offense used the play fake now to throw fires left he's got an open man oh what a big play for this offense as they get it to the 33 yd line and he had to go a long way to reel that ball he started off way on the right cross the entire defense made the catch on the other side of the field there's an example of how this offense can really attack every corner of the football field and this set of downs get started from the 33 first and 10 movement here from the tight end on the ground it's Irving and he showed off that stiff arm as he had a decent run and that would be the definition of first down success putting yourself in a good position it's second and inches I can do whatever I want next I can take a shot down the field I can run the football and get a new set of downs like nice first down execution on second down will they go back to the ground game the G give to the tail back they get him on the ground but it's a first down well the defense knew coming into this one it was going to be a physical game guys are going to have to be great at the point of attack and get off blocks and make tackles it couldn't stop the offense from picking up that first down on that run play and the Huskers have it with a first and 10 C ofan backfield it's lyd they stop him almost immediately short game there and still a little ground covered pick up the first and I think you're seeing these guys in every offense now these little guys that they're so quick it's hard to get a hand on them run crisp routes you can throw it short you can throw it long but they're just big- time Playmakers you definitely seen an emphasis shift towards smaller wide receivers with some serious skill that completion will take them inside the 10 to the 9 yd Line stop me when you've heard this before first down first down first down just continuing to put first downs together so far this defense just can't find any answers the Huskers have it in scoring position on first and goal motion from the offense quarterback touch pass on the Jet Sweep that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there looks as if we have an injury on that last play and we'll take a break to check him out defense roll up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming the run up the middle trying to power to the goal line and he finds Some solid space makes a nice game before the defense is able to stop him keep pounding away at this defense and make them play the run if you can get this many a chunk they're going to have to commit more guys to the Box more guys to the run then you open it up for the passing game now it's third and goal and the defense holds firm no pickup at all on that play second quarter might not be gamble time but inside the three Palmer I've got the green light I'm going for this I am too and you're essentially running a two-point play here right you've got a play you practiced all week long that's the play you dial up right here and this kicker has had a busy night the field goal unit is out there for the third time and it's right down the boulevard [Applause] [Music] so they were able to put up a three spot on that last drive and now the kickoff team out there as they prepare to put boot to leather and he takes this from inside the five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 and the Colorado offense is coming back onto the field they'll crank up this drive with a pass brings it down on the right side and he breaks into the open and he'll take it in and house it touchdown bucks that was a lightning fast drive that ends with a touchdown and if you can string a few more drives like that together man we might as well get our popcorn out because we're going to get a lot of scoring [Applause] [Applause] now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and the Pat will draw them one point closer that one's going to get a little star marked beside it on the play sheet One play explosive touchdown just like that they're just about ready to kick it away on the run from inside his own five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 the corners ready to go back to work on offense always good to get points on a drive David but Chip Shot field goals can leave you a little empty and I think it's great to get points but the great teams get touchdowns in the red area you got to get out there this time and execute a little better on this drive you're absolutely right David generally the best Red Zone offenses are the ones that run the ball the best so let's see if they can be a little bit more physical on this drive got eight on first down now looking at a second and two they'll give it to the back he steps out out of bounds but he's got a first down on the play Nebraska's had a lot of guys to feed over the years Mike Rosier Roger Craig I am hip but you don't know who's going to get it with this running attack yeah but I do know this ree whoever gets it is going to run the football physical and Nebraska is going to be very happy their fan base will be jacked if they establish the physical ground game cuz that's who they are pressure in his face and he lets it Fly hit hard as he released the ball on that first down pass and didn't never had a chance well the offensive line has got to give him at least a little bit of time to survey the field he had no chance that time getting hit almost immediately after he got the ball line getting set on second down looking for a man it's Rola working the middle it's complete and the catch was one thing and the Run even better a big pick up on that one and this has got to be so so demoralizing for this defense right now having given up multiple first downs on this drive somebody on defense has to step up make a play and stop the bleeding the corn Oskar are moving quickly down the field using his legs it's Irving and they try the middle of this Stout defense and they rise to the challenge great job by the defense everybody firing off the ball hitting their guys holding their gaps running to the football nowhere to [Applause] go got stuffed on first down it's second and [Applause] 10 wide receiver now comes in motion hand off from the shotgun really putting together a threat now they get the first it's at the 37 you ain't getting by all these guys right up the middle unless your offensive line and your tight ends and everybody is put putting in the work up front committing to blocking the running back does a great job finding the hole exploding through how about that nice big huge game if on the OC let's call that one again they go to the ground they're trying to send a message with this running game he stopped after a pick up of four to the 33 it's just so nice to know you can start off on first down with positive plays positive yards hand the football off set up a good second down after the productive first down play it's second and six from the gun running back on the move and they try to run inside and there is nowhere to go that's a really good stop by the defense Jesse they need a few more you've given up a bunch of yards on this drive and a bunch of plays but all that matters is keeping them off the scoreboard yeah it's that bend don't break mentality you're seeing right now and this is the point where this defense has just got to loock [Applause] in it's a draw he gets it oh so close to the first down marker but I think he's going to be a touch [Applause] short so here comes the field goal unit again this kicker has already made three in this one and they'll kick it from the left side a 40 4yd try it is G well you're always going to wonder what would could have should have happened on Fourth and inches had they gone for it but with this kicker I like taking three points and putting it on the board [Music] [Music] so after the last Drive lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 Colorado has the ball back and the buffalo's hoping to put their team in Prime position on offense and a pickup of eight opens a world of opportunities on second and two this defense really has their handsful guys they got to play with great eye discipline because they don't know who's going to be keeping the football in the Run game and that time you saw the QB he was able to kind of skirt his way to get some positive yards the buffalos come to the line in the hurry up looking for room it's Hayden he's brought down but not before they pick up the big first down and here we go if you're an offense you've got to get that ground gain going so you can have some balance and then you give it to your quarterback Palmer and let it and make some plays down the field later on yeah exactly you know coming into this game this offense knew they were going to have to someway somehow at least establish a semblance of a running game for exactly what you just said you got to be able to use play action pass later in this game to get some explosive plays down the field and it's a play like that that we just saw which can help them get that going and that's what you're try to do as a defense limit those damages when they run the football get them on the ground short gains to set your defense for positive situations down on the road didn't get much on first down it's second and nine back to throw it's Sanders just a short pass to the tight end and he might be known for run fits but that was a sure and heavy tackle on the tight end well a nice completion there finding the tight end and what's so beautiful about that is while they didn't get the first they were able to pick up enough yards now to make the third down manageable really putting this offense in a good position Here Comes This Home crowd as the defense tries to get off the field on third down from the gun wants to pass quickly complete they convert on third down as he gets it to the 46 yd line these two guys just on the same wavelength they make clutch connections all the time and that's practice man that's all summer that's all spring just so many hundreds and hundreds and thousands of balls where you know exactly when that guy's going to break you know he's a stud you're going to feed him especially on these third down situations they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one I love this linebacker because he's able to dissect what's happening in front of him and he reacts downhill uses his speed to get to the line of scrimmage and create the negative play lost one on that last one it's second and 11 they go to the draw he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three and the draw play you know it's about looking over here look for pass and then slipping it in real quick defense too quick getting in the back field caging that ball making it stay in the middle of field getting the big TFO they've got the ball at Midfield but they're facing a third and long looking downfield and he needs a bunch he's got his man and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down you got to love that on defense one of the most critical statistics out there is how do you play on third down how do you prevent the opponent from keeping drives alive right there tackling the catch he gave up the completion whoop-de-doo you set up fourth and long you're going to get the ball back go get some water and celebrate no return possible on this one it goes out of bounds and they'll mark it right around the 30yd line line and here comes the Nebraska offense back onto the field he's got it and he was Off to the Races and he gets it to the 45 one of the things that makes this guy so dangerous is how good he is after the catch if he's got any space around him he's able to burst he's able to make people miss and get extra yards for his offense you saw it right there now a first down from the 45 yd line to the air it's Rola immediately fires to the middle and they finally haul him down but not before the good catch and run well you know who's got to love this offense picking up so many first downs it's their own defense David I know you love playing on teams with great offenses all the way down at the 33 yd line it's first and 10 he's looking to throw it using the back as a receiver on the screen he's right out of bound but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down and there you go you see you don't have to throw bombs to get big plays in the passing game just screen it to your running back as soon as he catches it he gets up field and how about the downfield blocking by these linemen and the wide receivers as they rip off that explosive play comes out throwing on first down gets it out fast the offense will have to use its first time out of the half nice quick throw there it's so important for quarterbacks to be able to find the Rhythm and to be comfortable and confident you want to just get the ball out quickly make it an accurate and easy throw and you can tell that these two guys they rep that play in practice all the time and it's now showing up here on good throwing catch takes it down to the five as the offense tries to cash in they'll immediately call timeout and man this quarterback is on fire this drive they've run five plays offensively he thrown it all five times he's five for five and now he has him down here on the goal line why not go six for six with a tutty and a little too much adrenaline on that throw never gave his receiver a [Music] chance can the D deny them on second and goal looking to throw it's Rola into the end zone and they will score touchdown Corn Huskers defense has to be better on the back end they knew this offense was going to come out and they were going to challenge them they were going to try to push the ball vertically down the field they've now given up two touchdown passes in this game theyve got to shore up their play in the back half climing up to tack one more onto that lead and after the extra point they're on top by 12 a 70 yd touchdown drive and the score comes on a 5yd touchdown pass the kickoff team out there set to booted away returner will field it and and try to get some field position he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 and the Colorado offense is coming back onto the field now you find out just how much of a gunslinger you are will you roll the dice here late in the half David and you know the defense is going to be really really conservative so I think it's an opportunity to be able to take a shot see how much of a chunk you can get before then you decide really Jesse how you want to finish the half just can't turn it over throw he's got it down the left oh look out and the defense couldn't Corral him and he took it all the way touchdown Buffalo and I tell you what that passing touchdown man that should spark this whole team like The Comeback is more than on now like they got the touchdown they cut into the lead you want to get a stop and go into the half get all the juices all the excitement and be like listen the passing game's rolling we got this the comeb back's in full effect [Applause] on to attempt the try and with the extra point every little bit counts as they get closer this offense Prides itself on going after you and they did with that long touchdown pass to finish off a two-play Drive they're lining up to boot it away looking for an alley from inside his own 10 just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 just a few seconds remaining here as they try to put something up before halftime they'll try to get the edge with the toss play here got to be smart patient great vision uses all of that to get to the 29 we've played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connors in our halftime update phyas what an environment there today all the animosity and Flatout hatred that comes with a good old-fashioned rivalry game on display in that first half toughest job inside that Stadium right now might just be the scoreboard operator after all those first downs and touchdowns big plays have defined this one thanks to two of the best receiving core in all of college football let's see if these defenses can adjust and make the necessary chess moves that said let's get back to the field and our guys in the booth to see who comes out on top of this rivalry contest and the Huskers will try to kick this in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 Colorado has the ball back and the buffalo's hoping to put their team in Prime position on offense he showed it all there a little elusiveness a little power and he's got the first down you're down obviously at the half you had a conversation we got to come out and put points on the board and Jesse it looks like they're going to start with the ground game and I love this David too regardless of whether they're losing or they're winning come out here and try to be the most physical unit here in the second half get this run game established wants to throw on first down grabbed over the middle it's horn they make the stop right there good pickup it's still short of the first down I love offenses and quarterbacks that are willing to take the easy stuff take those easy throws that are guaranteed to get positive yards yeah I'm going to take big shots down the field too but don't forget it's easier to pick up second and five third and five than it is when we start getting those long yarded situations dropping back it's Sanders makes his connection stopped at the 41 yd line after the 5yd gain and the buffalos will snap it on First and 10 looking to move it through the air the throw to the outside is complete he's brought down solid pick up on a little a little bit short of the first down yeah and he runs a quick out route and this is a timing route quarterback has to trust him throw him the football you can tell they throwing this a time or two nice job nice success and the buffalos want to pick up the tempo caught in the backfield it's horn and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few I don't know if that's the coverage you want to be throwing wide receiver screens against often times you want the receivers to have some access you want the DBS to be off a couple yards so you can help set up the blocks and give the receiver somewhere to go with it it's hard to run that against press coverage and they only picked up a few yards there snap it to the back they convert on third down as he gets it to the 46 yd line that is how it's done on third down and short and no doubt about about it an easy hole to get through and clearly get the first down if you really want to simplify football the low man wins that time the offense got the better of the D easily pick that up the offense setting up shop at the 46 first and 10 to the ground he's got it again and a really nice run and pickup there before the defense avoided disaster and stopped the really big play well right away after picking up a first down they go right back to their playmaker running back and I love the push they got up front getting a hat on a hat opening a huge hole for the back and you become so hard to defend when you can run the football successfully on first down you're starting like that now what opens up play action now you're making me play pass and run this offense if they can create that run and the quarterback will be slung down back at the 43 just making life miserable for opposing quarterbacks the way Trev Alberts always did yeah just finding a guy that can sniff out the quarterback and kind of feel it have those instincts you could tell he saw it went and got it just like your boy Trev alri they've got some serious work to do to keep that last one from messing up this drive second and 19 back to throw it's Sanders got it set up on the outside they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down marker you know and that's why this guy can play first second and third down you've already seen him earlier in the drive rip off some nice runs but he can catch the football as well and they're going to find ways to get him going and all sorts of ways but you're seeing it specifically on this drive on Third and long no secret what he needs here a shot toward the end zone and that one's incomplete they weren't just trying to move the chains they were trying to move the scoreboard instead it's Fourth Down nice job by the defense they're mixing up their look they're third and long in field goal range they go Zone coverage so everybody on the back end has the eye on the quarterback and they're able to break on the ball Force the incompletion the buffalos line up to punt it away the punt goes out of bounds and a nice job to get them backed up I think they'll spot it right around the 15 the Cor ready to go back to work on offense hand off from the gun and maybe they want to try somewhere else because there is nothing doing in the middle of this defense you can't let the same guy beat you over and over and over again you got to make adjustments sometimes you got to bring more guys in the Box more guys to the football and make sure he's not the one who beats you they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 they'll Run play action throws to the wide out the Freshman just a little too much on that one man as a quarterback you got to be careful he's lucky there if you miss high throwing over the middle of the field often times that results in interceptions so lucky that ball was incomplete now on Third and 10 if they can move the chains here maybe they can get this drive started looking downfield it's Rola unloads to the wide out another incompletion on third down well in the first half this offense was up and down the field it seemed like everything they were dialing up was working and here we are in the third quarter and there's a very rare incompletion on their own end of the field maybe that's the play the defense needs now to spark some momentum the Huskers will send out the punt unit he's going to try to flip the field with this one fair catch was called for but there is a flag on the play and we'll have to sort it out the officials offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the penalty leaves it with the back he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple maybe that stop is a good sign for this defense maybe the defense is starting to figure it out obviously offense has been running the football with so much success something has to change that was a good start after losing a couple on that last play here's second and [Applause] 12 they'll run it from the gun they bring him down but a solid pick up to put them in position to pick up a first down listen you you got to be able to know what play to call and what hole to go through like the line blocks for a certain hole good job getting through the hole getting what was blocked getting a nice positive gain making your situation really good on the next down how bold will they be on third down after that last run getting some heat that has not close as he got drilled trying to deliver it and it'll bring up fourth down yeah and on money down defensively you got to find ways to affect the quarterback nice job by the defense getting the pressure getting to him getting a hit on him and forcing the incompletion and now forcing the fourth down fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way signals for the fair Catch and that's where they'll put it in play just outside the 20 and the Colorado offense is coming back onto the field that last one looked like a backbreaking drive David but they ended up punting yeah and they put some plays together put some yards together but the most important stat is putting points on the board and this offense has to finish Jesse when they get across that 50 yd line and start getting in scoring territory yeah there there was some good execution no doubt about it but I think it's the critical down in distances third down in particular they've got to be better moving for to the air it's Sanders and that pass will be Jarred loose on second down that brings up third down that's what I'm talking about that is how you close and when a guy's going to make a catch you make sure he doesn't make it physicality using your pads running through them and guess what not only this play does he feel it next time he tries to go over the middle or feels footsteps this will pay [Applause] dividends safe completion on the screen defense was not fooled by that screen to the back and they'll stop him short of the marker it'll be fourth down listen I know this running back is Shifty I know he's really good in the open field but that's just asking too much of him at this point third and long situation he wasn't going to be able to make that extra guy Miss uh trying to get that first down and the buffalos will call on their punt [Applause] team might have thought he'd want to try to pick up a few yards there but he's content with making the fair catch right around the 35 yd line looking for space it's irvan just sort of a Relentless run getting everything that was available to him and they'll Mark him down at the 40 well this this offense came into the game knowing they wanted to be physical they wanted to establish the line of scrimmage and they're running downhill right at this defense and they're turning out positive yardage early 6yd pickup on first down leaves him with second and four receiver going for the edge on the Jet Sweep the corn ERS get it past the sticks and you used to see the Jet Sweep as a play that I'm going to get outside and get big gains now it's so tough to want to do a stack up the middle fine we run it outside get the first down really tough to stop now they'll line it up from the 44 on First and 10 they move the tight end all over running back searching for a hole at the 45 on it way they finally make the stop with the big run is plenty to move those sticks for the first down another good run man he has been picking up yards in bunches today Jesse showing off all the skills and he's showing no signs of slowing down David this guy just gets better as the game goes on he is a [Applause] beast off play action on first down quick strike complete finds AC crease at the 20 and chunk plays are the name of the game and they get one here before the defense finally makes the stop well how about the offense setting that play up we've seen earlier in the game a couple shorter throws but just trying to suck those safeties closer to the line of scrimmage anticipating that they would get an opportunity to take a shot they called the perfect play at the perfect time right there from the gun they'll give it on the inside he bullies his way all the way down to the 5 yd line it's really frustrating when you get a guy in his spot he's in the hole he's there to do his job and he can't get the guy on the ground that's job get him on the ground you know especially a guy that's not a huge back you got to make that tackle you can't make it easy on the offense where now they got a a manageable situation to the ground with the back he steps and powers and works his way they finally get him down at the two not a low of ground to cover in not much to defend a big third down in the Red Zone they'll try to power their way ahead he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three well this guy's been eating them alive all game long finally though David you wonder if the defense has been able to make some adjustments and find something positive to help slow this guy down hey baby steps right that's a tackle for a loss I know he's got over a hundo on the game but this defense is definitely going to have to be more aggressive commit more guys to to stopping that bad man smashes it between the uprights [Music] [Applause] [Music] they were able to get a field goal on the board and now they'll kick it away on the move from inside is five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 Colorado has the ball back and the buffalo's hoping to put their team in Prime position on offense on the Move they'll knock him down after a pickup of one to the 18 and a lot of times you want those big plays you want those Splash plays but sometimes you're going to take some losses you're not going to run the football overly well but if you continue to run it you can at least create some balance you at least have the threat of it otherwise you're just going to abandon it and now it's just going to be a passing game pulls and throws off the RPO and the defense had that one well covered just a short game there it's hard to have success on wide receiver screens when you're facing press man coverage because your blockers out front often times can't pick them up and that receiver gets gobbled up as soon as he catches the pass you saw it on that last qu and the buffalos want to crank the tempo looking downfield it's Sanders it's caught and they'll finally bring him down after he rips off a huge play well ree you and I were talking about this before the game how is this defense going to be able to deal with all the speed they have offensively you saw them just rip off a big play and just see now their head's spinning just a little bit give up a big chunk play and it's right back at him coming out on first down with the play fake and the quarterback is snowed under [Applause] these two quarterbacks have produced as we check out their numbers after [Applause] three one more period to go to see who can make the winning plays and come home with the victory on second down looking again to throw he's got it and they're getting it rolling with that play to the 42 yd line and you see on that play the confidence that he has in that playmaker on the perimeter of the field he's already had a couple catches in this game it seems like he's always open and right there nice job fitting that football into a small space and great awareness by the receiver getting his feet down and Bounds from the shotgun the hand off to the back a run up the middle is stuck for No Gain well this is a defense that we know takes tons of Pride stopping the Run that's where it all starts and ends with them and you saw a great effort on that last play got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 they'll run it out of the shotgun running like he wants that football as he gets to the 37 it's going to be important this offensive line is able to get a little bit of push and just got to give this Sky an inch a little crease and he can make yards for it these fans stepping up to help this defense on third down wants to throw it's Sanders fires to the wide out he's got it finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down when you're a playmaker like this guy is your coaches are going to dial up plays intended for you especially on third down that's what you saw in that last play there was no question where the quarterback was going with that football all week long they decided on the biggest Downs of this game we're going to Target our best player and we're going to make sure that he gets looks it doesn't matter what the coverage is and you saw it right there on that play there to stop him after a pickup of three it's down to the 15 the Buffalo want to move quickly on the ground it's Hayden tackled after picking up the first down I love when players understand situations and they understand where the first down marker is and they understand where I got to get to a lot of people you'll see run north south and try to bounce out wide and make big plays sometimes it's not about making big plays sometimes it's about getting that first down to make make sure I get an extra set of downs instead of trying to make those big touchdown runs a first down run on the doorstep he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple and a great job by the linebacker you can tell starting to crowd the line of scrimmage get up there in the line of scrimmage see it diagnose it get in the back field get the running back on the ground for the tackle for the loss defense rolls up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming softened him up with a run now to throw makes the grab they've got it down to the three yd line really well done on that throw and catch nice job by the receiver on the end route there and how about the speed after he made his break he was able to actually separate a little bit from the DB helping out his QB on that one if they can get it into the end zone here they can really turn turn up the heat in this one third and goal trying to Surge it in and he takes it to the house touchdown Colorado and I love it I love the physicality of this offense it's third and goal I trust my offensive line to pave the way give the ball to my running back and know he's going to physically punch this thing into the end zone they got the touchdown but still a two-point conversion short of tying it up late he'll pull it on the read he barges his way into the end zone for the two and we are locked up here in the fourth we've got a Dandy going here all tied up in the fourth quarter and about to kick it away he'll start the return inside is five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 and here comes the Nebraska offense back onto the field and to settle for the Chip Shot field goal last time Jesse they' love for this one to pay off bigger yeah it just comes down to execution too did a nice job out in the field stalled a little bit once they got down to the goal line so they just need to be a little bit more crisp here D yeah and listen I I think the first part was the most important part you got to put the drive together first to get down there now when we get down there focus on execution and getting six points after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and [Applause] seven going with the ground game left and he's stuffed after picking up one to the [Applause] [Music] 23 they plow ahead with the run but still more ground needed to pick up the first down third down coming looking for a man it's Rola got him downfield and he's brought down after a huge completion and they just want to give this guy a chance to make a play on third down and more times than not he is going to deliver he's so good so efficient such a good route Runner got the speed got the complete game so you definitely want to highlight him and especially on those Downs that matter the most if something's not open Quick underneath find him he'll make those contested catches a seven yd pickup it'll be second and three I know it's sexy to throw the football but if you can pound it away and get these kind of gains they will just add up wear the defense down get first downs and ultimately get some points they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and three he's looking to throw got his man quickly a quick tackle made but he's got plenty for the first down [Music] and the Huskers are moving quickly down the field he'll put the tight end in motion out of the shotgun they go to the ground they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one that linebacker was a heat seeking missile and the heat that he saw it was the ball carrier yeah great job great F linebackers are making all the calls in the defense and understanding when I need to come through that Gap and come through with bad intentions those guys are usually 245 lbs of heat seeking missile got it in the middle it's lyd they get him down after he makes a catch well this offense knew coming into this game they wanted to try to attack the middle of the field in the passing game and they're able to execute the end route there third and long from the 30yd line in this defense hoping to knocked him out of field goal range wide out in motion on third down going up top and he drops it just a little too slippery in the hands got to give the defense credit on that play taking everything away forcing the incompletion now it's decision time fourth and short in your in field goal range what do you do here so here we are on fourth down and this field goal kicker is going to face all the pressure in the world [Applause] he's got it showing off that big leg from 47 yds out all field goals are not created equal guys kicks in the fourth quarter to take the Le they just seem to carry so much more weight so give that young man credit for getting out there and knocking that thing through the uprights with all the pressure with all the eyeballs on him he deliver [Music] [Music] after putting up the field goal they're set to kick it away and he takes this from inside the five and the returner could find no daylight he goes down and the Colorado offense is coming back onto the field he wants to throw and that will be incomplete man that would have been a big hitter if they could have done it but second down coming offensive players know where the ball is going defensive players don't great job by the DB adjusting to the football seeing it playing the wide receiver and making sure he can't catch the football the incomplete pass leaves him with second down using his legs a hayen danced his way through traffic pick up from four to the 19 and the buffalo's in the hurry up looking to throw it's Sanders got the Quick Pass he will step out of bounds but not before the big pickup and a first down for this offense third down a lot of times it comes down to not necessarily who's the most open who do you trust the most yeah it's not about the x's and the O's it's about the jimmies and the Joe's and when my guy's better than you and I get you matched up out wide and I know I trust you I'm finding you from the shotgun they'll run it pushes ahead for a couple they'll mark it at the 33 and the defense doing a great job committing to the run when you commit to the run like this obviously you can give up some plays in the passing game but you got to stop the run first after picking up a couple it's second and eight from the gun running back gets to give they wrestle him to the ground but he's got plenty for a first down and a great job by the offensive line if you're going to run the ball right at the middle you better control the line of scrimmage you can see the center the guard the tackles is doing a good job getting on their guys just enough where this running back can get into space and make the big game and the Buffalo will line it up on First and 10 Ed the play fake now to throw unloads to the wide out tremendous awareness along the sideline and the ability to get the foot down for the big pickup and I love the awareness by the wide receiver on that Play because I'm not sure that route was supposed to be that deep you got to wonder if the receiver decided maybe to adjust the route a little bit to make sure that he got the first down to the air on first down all kinds of room to throw that one in there he gets it all the way down to the 5 yd line a terrific catch and run before he stopped how nice is it as a quarterback when you don't have to throw post routes to get great stats no I can just throw it quickly to one of the fastest players in the entire nation and let him burn this defense and if they want to take the lead can't be thinking field goal here they'll need a touchdown to go up in the fourth a first down run in the Red Zone he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple that linebacker saw the express lane right to the ball carrier and a great job by the defensive line getting some push making the them use their resources on him linebacker comes free we him to make in the back field for a tackle for a loss after getting nothing done on first down second and goal from the six grabbed behind the line it's Hunter and he Jukes the first guy made him Miss and picked up a few before being brought down this quarterback right now is in Groove and he's doing a nice job in pre-nap he's reading the coverage and he's getting an idea of where he wants to go with the football that's why the ball's coming out of his hands so quickly that's why he seems like he's in a great way to go they'll run it on Third and goal and he's a real Nowhere Man tackled in this no gain land man it has been a long drive offensively I just feel like you got to pay this off and be aggressive you're down close punching in for a touchdown here pully yeah and inside the three yd line I think I might try to finish this off with a touchdown I ate up a ton of clock wore these guys out now they'd have to go the length of the field if I missed this kicker is going to need nerves of Steel on this one they're on the left has you'll have no trouble with the distance but that angle may give him an issue no good and after the Miss they're still down by a field goal well that's one the kicker would like to have back that's a kick he should be making in his [Applause] leag the corn Oscars ready to go back to work on offense three-point lead put together a great drive here Jesse you can turn it into a two-possession game let's do that let's get a touchdown on the board let's find out where our Playmakers have the best matchups and let's exploit those David and it would put our defense in such a great position fourth quarter two possession lead it makes it easy to play defense they're in control the clock is their friend you'd have to expect another run here on second and six they'll keep it on the ground they want this clock to move defense uses a timeout quickly trying to get that ball back and preserve time for their offense yeah and not a surprise by this offense right this is a game management type situation I want to run the football I want to run the clock the clock is my friend with the lead late in the fourth quarter inside of a minute I'm going to keep this ground game going and make you have to look at that clock continue to tip he gets it oh so close to that imaginary yellow line but I think he's going to be just a tad short the Huskers will bring the punt team onto the field this will be the second time they've had to kick it away he will s signal for the fair Catch and take it just inside the 35 here comes the offense on first down he's going to pass finds his tight end they make the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first down I think in this situation 2 minutes trailing late I think you got to be thrown to the sticks every time I don't know if these short completions are going to get it done you're just not going to have enough time to get down the field so from a play calling standpoint I think you want to think about being a little bit more aggressive to throw it's Sanders he's got it and they wrap him up but not before he's got enough for the first down I just love quarterbacks that aren't greedy and that aren't always trying to throw the Home Run ball right second down you're in your own end of the field the guy you want to throw to is not open just find the back he'll go do something positive with it this guy is a weapon and you got to find him in the passing game they'll throw it on first down fires to the wide out PS it in that is exactly what you're looking for when you talk explosive plays the defense finally able to make the stop when I see the defense and man coverage I'm trying to get my fast Guy versus their worst Corner trying to get a great match up on the outside take advantage of it to make big plays now they've got to hustle to the line and get set got to get everybody to the line and Spike it to stop the clock they'll line up for a second down play grabbed in the back field it's Hart and he was able to get away from one tackle but plenty of help was on the way decent pickup on that play man and we have seen it in this game even though his team is losing this guy time and time again has been answering the Bell he's been throwing dimes all game long and he comes up with another big completion there and defensively I'm going to keep continuing to think pass they've trusted him all game long he hasn't let him down I'm playing for the pass I'll react to everything else so on fourth down here comes the field goal kicker in a huge spot the defense uses a timeout and we are down to 11 seconds left to play and this field goal attempt might be their chance to save themselves field goal is good and in the waning seconds of the game they tie it up wow and with that field goal with so little time left here in the game it looks like this thing's going to OT you have to give that young guy so much credit he had the weight of the world on his shoulders and he's able to knock it through we've still got some football left here fellas after that latest answer tied things up just about set to kick it away again from inside his own 15 looking for a crevice and the coverage team able to make the tackle first down for this offense leaves it with the running back really nice stop there from this senior leader four quarters not enough to settle this one we are headed to overtime and these teams have played so well back and forth evenly contested game how about a little free football Jesse yeah I love this day with free football and finding out which of these two teams is the most mature who can settle down now with a game on the line and make the big play all right guys so here we go in overtime and just to refresh everyone's memory alternating possessions starting on the opponent's 25 and it's so nice to be on defense first to to set the tone to understand what you need try to hold him to a field goal the offense knows they can do their job to go out and get a win just two possessions Palmer like you got to be at your best yeah and I love the new rules too because in the third overtime possession it goes to alternating two-point plays back and forth who's got anything left in the tank here in OT got his man downfield and what a throw to get it in there and they've got it in business in the red zone at the 13 we'll get it started here in overtime he'll try the right side got some room enter to the goal line touchdown Buffs and they grab the lead here in overtime and I like the running back's Vision he sees the hole explodes through it he knows where the goal line is Gets In The End Zone gets [Applause] six the all important extra point would push this lead to seven and the extra point is true and they're on top by seven they know what's in front of them they have to answer that score with a [Applause] touchdown trying to find his man on first down and this will be incomplete a big hit there forces second down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again to the air it's Rola shoots it to the left got him and nobody's close he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pickup and moving the sticks for a first down [Applause] he's looking to throw it good job to toss that ball out of bounds and avoid the [Applause] loss going to work in the Red Zone they can't pick up the first down without getting it into the end [Applause] zone he's going to pass on second down touchdown Nebraska they got it in and now an extra point away from the top obviously very hard to complete passes this area of the field nice execution now you're down by one and now you got to make the decision are we going to go for it and try to end the game right here and put this game in our offense's hands what do you think and that's why I love love having the ball second because I get the opportunity to do this I knew they scored a touchdown we scored a touchdown now do I want to go for the win or do I want to continue this game on it's so nice to have the ball [Applause] [Music] set don't assume on this extra point they needed to send it to a second OT and they did TCH on the extra point [Applause] now first down here at the second overtime they're going to open this drive with a pass throws toward the end zone and they won't be able to connect down field looking for a big time play [Applause] they'll try again on second down after the [Applause] incompletion from the gun the running back tries to hit the hole and he's able to find a little bit of Running Room before they get him down the corn Oskar have pushed it inside the 20 [Applause] to the air it's Rola feeling some heat and the ball comes out what a disastrous play defense Scoops it up and they can win it on this return he's at the 20 a game winner what a finish in double overtime that ball was squirting around on the field five finally coralled by the defense and they turn it into six and it's so hard defensively do I jump on it and make sure I get it or do I scoop it up and try to make the big play he chose to scoop it up and it pays off makes the big play gets the touchdown
