is this the first walkover of the season I think it might be we're going to walk over to the other side of the expansive studio9 to hang out with the Scotland International step calwell so excited to see you buddy how are you how you Jay how are you doing I'm great I you know you and I were were chatting before uh before we came on and it's funny how things change when you get a little success in Canadian soccer most years in the past uh a draw against Mexico me uh in a foreign country would have been seen as a massive success for the Canadian program uh now not so much it would be a bit disappointed almost yeah no no excitement around the game is there we would expect that it' be a lot of excitement from a draw against Mexico especially in Dallas a country where you know most of the crowd were Mexican actually it was a small crowd tonight which I was surprised with maybe that helped the Canadians May because they were the better side but not a lot of action in this game not a lot of go mouth activity and I think that probably a disappointment for Jesse Marsh but to control a game against Mexico and to um you know not be under any real pressure throughout I know they had a couple of chances Mexico but there was no real moments where you really felt like Canada were were Bend in and we're going to lose a goal I think is Testament to the how far this team has come and the respect that Mexico shot them they were physical J they were right in on Canada especially early they did not want Canada to establish a rhythm in the game and have some control and uh I think that's credit to the way Jesse Mary's Canada have been playing and and how much respect they're starting to gain in cona and through the world well and you you know you mentioned the success they've had under Jesse Marsh and it's an attitude and it's an exciting feeling and yet maybe the the one hole I can poke in the whole balloon here is the fact that six out of 10 matches that that Marsh has managed Canada failed to score a goal are you surprised at the the lack of goal scoring from this team under Mark uh a little bit surprised because when I look at some of the players that Canada have at their disposal I think uh some of the top end Talent like Kyle lren and Jonathan David and uh even The Wider players sherberg who of course has has done great uh Davies has played further back so maybe it's hard to to put anything at his door in terms of offense but um it's tough they've had a tough run of games they've had uh France and the Netherlands and they had a very tough cup America they're playing the US they're playing Mexico I love the level of opponent we've cried out for years for Canada to be playing against top level opponent to test them heading towards the home World Cup and now we're getting that so naturally there's going to be less chances there's going to be more pressure when you get a chance and at the moment Canada snatching a little bit of their chances they're still creating chances but they're snatching a little bit I think a little bit of composure is needed and uh and and a little bit more confidence and that comes from experience knowing that when you're playing in a game a huge game the chance comes you got to slow the heart rate you got to find the composure at the right time whereas in previous games they're getting 10 12 15 chances you know a next one's around the corner so uh I think it'll come I think Canada will will learn to be more clinical when it matters so they get four points from this particular window and what's interesting and you kind of alluded to it they bring in some new faces they're relying on depth Jesse Marsh is almost seeing like what do I have here so from your perspective as an analyst uh what do you take away from this particular window um I I think what I take away most is the fact that Jesse Mar again played with a very clear identity right his side on from the first seconds of the game against the US in Kansas City were on the front foot and it was clear what they were trying to achieve that is such a positive to get that in such a short space of time I think it's phenomenal um and I have full respect and credit for him for being able to do that the players clearly love playing in that style and now he's got a a group of players it's it's not just 11 12 14 players there seems to me like there's a bit of death there there's some serious competition uh healthy competition I'll say and these guys understand what's coming up they want to be in the team they want to be playing they don't want to be missing a game in Toronto be a Fielder missing a game of Vancouver BC plays in a world cup and that that is amazing that's what we want we want that level of competition and that intensity through every game as we head towards 2026 and a lot of people have stepped up the captain himself there with that late block amazing and and and playing a great role in the team playing it fullback where I think he's at his best uh David got his goal we mentioned the big stars but it's these other guys Bono's had a tremendous window Cornelius has been steady Ali Ahmed has been absolutely terrific as well Vancouver White Caps player these guys got a kick on now at Club level back to the next International window and keep improving and testing themselves day and day out so their games in the right place NE not just next year for Gold Cup but obviously two years time for World Cup making me feel good about the future I like that be great um Before I Let You Go uhuh I
