now the social media platform X has said it expects to be blocked in Brazil because it's not named a new legal representative in the country the order was issued by a Brazilian Supreme Court Judge who accused ex of spreading misinformation X's owner Elon Musk says his company is being subjected to censorship well let's get more on this story let's speak to BBC bra Brazil's Leandro prz who joins us live on the program Leandro just for viewers not familiar with this story uh just how did we get to this point well the trigger of this dispute were the orders issued by Brazil Supreme Court Justice Alexandri Mor who demanded the ban of a number of X profiles accused of spread of misinformation and right-wing ex extremism in Brazil the waters were giv were given especially after a massive demonstration in January last year when thousands of people were arrested uh and charge for invading and destroying governmental buildings in Brazil's capital Brazilia what happened was that uh since the orders were given musk has been accusing Brazilian Judiciary of threatening free speech and trying to silence political opposition in Brazil on 17 August uh X shut down its office in Brazil so because of that the company did not have any uh legal representative here in the country and this week uh minister Justice aland mores uh gave 24 hours to act in order to uh point a legal representative here in the country so how close do you think it is now to being blocked and I mentioned Elon Musk tell me more about what he's been saying in reaction to this uh well um ilus has been using uh his platform x uh in order to uh accused the Brazilian Judiciary of censorship and recently just after this order given by Brazilian Brazil Supreme Court uh elus used memes in order to U make fun of Brazil's uh Brazil's Justice uh well but when it comes to how close we are from a suspension of X well right now there's no uh there's no legal um obstacle for for this uh right now the Brazilian Supreme the Brazilian Supreme Court can give the order can give the order for uh its suspension and right now in Brazil there is a huge anticipation uh in order to know whether the platform will be suspended or not the Andre we have to leave it there but it is a really interesting story and one to watch in these coming hours thanks for bringing us right up to date
