People along the Gulf coast and across the country are marking 19 years since hurricane Katrina made landfall. Katrina came ashore near the Louisiana Mississippi border on August 29th. 2005, the storm caused extensive and devastating damage along the Mississippi Gulf coast. And in New Orleans, Katrina's surge of water breached levees and caused widespread flooding, taking the lives of nearly 400 people. The hurricane also caused about 2 $200 billion in damages making it the costliest storm in us history.
