hey everybody welcome back to Brainiac baseball's 1985 Detroit Tigers season replay today's matchup is between the Detroit Tigers and the Kansas City Royals at Royal stadium on the Bound for the Tigers today is David con whose record is 10 and4 with a 3.71 ER and pitching for the Royals is Rich Gale whose record is 4- six with a 3.64 erra okay uh yesterday's game was an Abomination uh we just never really had a shot yesterday um Brian Kelly took the mound he made it through three and he was lucky to make it that far we dug deep into the bullpen and uh worked our Bullpen over pretty hard all the way through um we pitched multiple Innings from a couple of our guys so that we could save our better pitcher arms and so since tomorrow um sorry since after today we have um the September call-ups uh the extended rosters coming up uh I made a couple of decisions here uh early on one of them is we sent uh Paul Gibson uh to tripa and called back up Tom glavin glavin was going to come up tomorrow anyway way uh with the uh call-ups and Terry Taylor went down uh just for the day and we called up uh Dave Gumpert Gumpy Gumpert who's been terrible in uh limited Duty so far so once we um finish today's game we do have a separate video in which we're going to take a look at the standings in the league leaders and then we'll look a little deeper into the players that we called up but Terry Taylor will be back and obviously a creeper will be back as well um plus we'll have a bunch of new batters and a couple other pitchers uh that will call up and uh we'll take a look and see where we're at we really need a win today just to break even for the month um that would put us at 15 games over I feel like we're going to win today just because um the game has been keeping us within that range all month you know like uh we were at a 10 game different differential up until uh July then we got an extra five games and this month we've just kept it um the status quo basically so I I don't feel like um we're going to lose today I actually feel like even with David con's one inning start his last time out uh that he's probably going to bounce back today and uh we'll probably get the win to even out the month and uh as I said after today's ball game uh we will have that uh end of the month summary video where we'll take a look at the standings the league leaders and the September call-ups okay um yeah let's go ahead and get today's game started as always I appreciate everyone following along like and or subscribe to the channel uh Thomas D yesterday guest the correct pitcher uh for our fourth place prize in our final giveaway um it is going to be an autograph 1976 Topps card of Young Award winner Randy Jones a pitcher that uh we talk about a lot he's on the Baltimore Orioles in our Sim and uh I think it's would be fun to give away one of his autographs so that'll be the fourth place prize for our final giveaway at the end of the season all right uh David Con coming off a terrible performance everybody in the Bull Pen is ready to go here's our lineup it's the same lineup as yesterday the only real difference is that Kevin bass is now listed as tired but you know we've got a day off after what a couple more games so I'll just keep running these guys out there whatever the best lineup is uh to get us a victory let's go ahead and do the lineup run down for the Tigers batting a lead off in center field is Willie Wilson batting second at Short Stop is Barry l batting third at second base is sweet L Whitaker batting Cleanup in dhing is Terry Kennedy batting fifth at third base is Mike pagliarulo batting sixth in right field is Jim eisenrich batting seventh in left field is Kevin bass batting eighth at first base is Rusty Tilman and batting ninth and catching is Mike McFarland okay Rich Gale getting the start you probably remember uh that he absolutely shut us down the last time out I believe he threw a shut out in fact we'll look a little closer here momentarily he is making his 17th start he's 4- six with a 364 erra 59 walks 59 strikeouts in 111 and 1/3 Innings pitched oppon are betting 260 against him two complete games two shutouts his fast ball topping out at 89 mil an hour ground ball percentage is 48.4% fast ball is rated an 82 it's still a good pitch he has overall rated to 73 the 31-year-old righty is a free agent at the end of the year it blows my mind that a pitcher with a 73 rating could throw two shutouts with one good pitch looking at that log and there it is nine inning shutout walking for striking out two against Detroit probably one of our worst performances of the year he also beat us back in June going five and two3 giving up three runs and seven hits walking five in that game and then his last start was against the Indians it was a no decision he went six Innings giving up two runs on three hits but he walked six so the game made up for those hits all right we'll take a look here at the defense for the Royals doer and left Gonzalez in center field first and second below the average with uh McGriff and Steno with today not Kelly Heath who was in there yesterday Lombardi who had six RBI in yesterday's game including a grand salami uh he is the catcher today and he's rated a 74 all right here we go Willie Wilson leading it off ground ball to an of it's one out next man up is Larin I absolutely expect nothing from these guys L wicker hit a home run in the first inning yesterday just for a second I thought that was a good omen but we go down in order in the first let's take a look at the Royals lineup for Today batting lead off in left field is DJ doer batting second in center field is Jose Gonzalez batting third at second base is Andy stankowitz batting cleanup at first base is Fred McGriff batting fifth in right field is Daryl Motley batting sixth at third base is Craig Worthington batting seventh and catching is Phil Lombardi batting eighth in dhing is Webster Garrison and batting Ninth at Short Stop is Gary Templeton well I have no idea what to expect from David con he is making his 21st start he's 10 and four with a 371 ra it's up almost two runs after that early stretch of the season um 100 strikeouts in 123 and 23d innings opponents are betting 243 against him he's got a complete game shut out fast ball topping out at 96 mph ground ball percentage is 43.5% he's got two good pitches not that it matters overall LED an 83 not that it matters the 23-year-old righty is a free agent I'm sorry he's not a free agent he's arbitration eligible after the 87 season and there it is one run three I'm sorry one inning three runs five hits a walk one strike out that's all he could get against the worst team in the American League and then there's the um previous start pardon me I'm all choked up over that terrible performance uh the Royals uh he gave up two runs in six Innings five hits three walks he struck out nine but still took the loss oh he hit a batter as well all right let's take our lumps only one month ago and this is all over DJ doer deep Fly ball to center field play made by Wilson one out and con Strikes Out Gonzalez the center fielder Gonzalez Renee Gonzalez not playing today as Craig worthington's at third and the walk because you have to have a walk with a strikeout it's like peanut butter and jelly it's going to happen and then another strike out okay 2ks for con we go to the top of the second he's way ahead of his last start TK striking out miky pegs infield single that's the first hit of the game I mean we should hit and run but we'll just let him swing away line drive to Center caught by Gonzalez and Kevin bigad bass had a inside the park home run in the ninth inning yesterday hits a ground ball to short bottom of the second inning Dar mle leading off there's the second walk I mean there's no way around it ground ball picked up by L turns the double play two down and Lombardi B hit as's the first hit for the Royals third base runner here's Webster Garrison I believe he batted second yesterday Cony strikes him out we know how the inning will start next in with a walk we go to the top of the third here's Rusty Tillman there's a gapper into left center field another triple yeah no I thought it was a guaranteed triple that is his 12th double of the year I mean from a first baseman you need better numbers than this but considering he's probably got more career at bats as a tiger than he did in real life ever I guess he's doing all right Mike McFarland let's see if he can hit it to the right side maybe poke it through or at the very least get kilman over 3-1 all right gets the job done ground ball to Second Tilman on third we're going to go on contact and Wilson is a good contact here now if he strikes out or pops it up you know there's no chance we're winning today [Applause] yep ground ball that should get the run in one nothing Detroit will take it give Willie Wilson an RBI he was on a tear there for a while in RBI and I think he just went dead right no he had the five RB in two games and then this stretch here was not great okay bases are empty here is Barry Lin and the ground ball to short I'm sorry to Third and that will do it you go to the bottom the third Gary Templeton leading off and I bet you this will be a walk no l drive to center it was a Full Count 44 pitches for Cony here and the base hit by doer so this will be a double yeah it had to be a double because of his speed so here's the first run scored for Kansas City nothing we can do about it one1 stankowitz flying out to Center and he tags up at first and goes to [Applause] second will intentionally walk McGriff to get to Motley righty on righty three-run home run he was going to score no matter [Applause] what I hate this game I really really do well I would have thought we were going to win today uh but I guess that's not going to happen Mikey pegs gets his second hit he's got two of the [Applause] three botom with the fourth Phil Lombardi LLY drive to right Webster Garrison with a grounder and Gary Templeton striking out top of the fifth for whatever reason Rich Gil and his 73 rating absolutely owns our ass it's unbelievable well let's see if con can give us [Applause] five Gonzalez bloops it and right it's going to be caught carry deeper than I thought it was going to go and a base hit cuz why not oh what that was caught we'll take it so pathetic Tony gets [Applause] McGriff Motley with a ground ball to First and Craig Worthington popping it up Mikey pegs three for three only guy that brought his bats today we'll hit and run but it don't matter T going to second big hit bass all tied up who cares bass does get his triple fourth of the season and they're going to pull the infield in that is a good [Music] move I mean that means we will not score no matter what but I guess wouldn't hurt to ask for a sack fly gave him a chance we're going to send him why not season's over and he scores so we do get the lead good job by Tillman all that there is left to do is accumulate stats so may as well try they got the lead three to two now con starting to pitch sixks for con he's really due for a walk Webster flying out the right and Templeton gets hit by a pitch got to guard the lines doer out that's 104 pitches that'll do it for Coney today a ground ball this will be lens's last at bat we'll bring in Baker Lou with a hit Kennedy all the way down to 280 man that is unbelievable he was I mean he's done nothing for a month okay so Lin's coming out for [Applause] Baker Jeff Montgomery coming in oh I forgot to fix that I'm working on um the uh Seattle Pilots photos and I accidentally erased Jeff Montgomery's baseball card uh and I knew that and I forgot to fix it so that's what his dumb face there you go Gonzalez going down on strikes and the stankowitz liner into right center field caught Montgomery will come out for Tom Gorman gosh Gorman is so good one run it was a home run in 19 and a third Innings I mean he is due to get clobbered right one two Keep It Low liner to Center we go to the ninth inning we do have a run lead four for four for Mike [Applause] Pago [Applause] um pegs will come out for Eddie Milner Matt Williams will come in defensively it's hitting run they s to left Milner does go to third I mean Kevin bass just keeps coming through we're going to let him swing away Full Count there we go ground ball to First Milner will score give us that insurance run no RBI cuz there is a double play and then Gail Strikes Out Rusty Tilman a complete game performance Todd Fisher coming in looking for his ninth save he's got a sub two ER he's 8 for 12 in safe situations actually if you look at his log looks like he's had five in a row he has not given up a run since August 15th okay let's not forget about defensive replace ments here um all right uh let's see Milner will put him in right field and Matty Williams will come in and play Third that was a good job on my part pinch running Daryl Motley leading it off oh here's the endgame stats I haven't looked at that there we go mle one for two he's got an rbon Fly ball into center field that is catchable one up Craig Worthington over for three today over four as fiser strikes him out and we've got ourselves a shot here to win a ball game I mean it makes total sense if we do we do Tigers win 42 hand shakes but slaps not mistakes and there you see it flips the uh calendar to September and uh we'll go back and uh you know there's really we're not going to look at the standings we'll look at headline news and the transactions Brewers beat the Angels three to nothing Dave Le Point pitching well there's our Victory take a look at the transactions t Nord Brook um retires I really only remember him from the 1980 season for Milwaukee uh because I believe he I feel like he played a stretch there at third um when Jim ganner got injured and I kind of remember that happening okay uh that's all there is there let's pull up the box score and get out of here thanks for watching guys like and or subscribe to the channel keep in mind we're going to do that second video later on this evening player of the game I mean pagle aulo did not drive in a run but if he hadn't gotten on base there in inning and helped us get that uh guaranteed run I I might have been sweating bullets with this Bullpen uh so good job by pegs he's the player of the game David con looked terrible early on uh he did strike out seven in seven Innings two walks one was intentional uh and he gave up a couple of runs only four hits he did hit a batter right yeah he he hit Templeton and the bullpen did their J they did not give up a hit they did not give up a walk so great job by those guys fiser getting his ninth save Rich Gale did everything within his power to win that ball game but gave up the four runs and suffered the loss he's four and seven okay guys we are coming back later on and do that secondary video with the summary for the uh standings and the league leaders and we'll take a look and see who got called up for the uh September call-ups until then everyone have a great day
