what's up everybody Christian James here today's video Jessie Venter is on the Chris Van vet podcast interesting things to say about serving in the military at 18 let's go now leading into the video this not take a shot at any military does not take a shot at any veteran this is simply his perspective and his perspective as I got older does seem to be a credible perspective would it be as simple to get a 30-year-old man to go over there and fight a war against people he doesn't know that have done nothing to him or is it obviously the reason why service opens up at 18 now again servers opens up at 18 but you're not old enough to drink you're not old enough to smoke and as Mr ventur is going to bring up he wasn't old enough to vote at the time so you're not mature enough have to do certain things but you're mature enough to go over there and fight for your life look again everybody thank you for your service I love the military but as you get older well let's just see what Jesse says and we'll come back after the clip what do you think is the biggest thing that being a Navy SEAL taught you about being a man what you got um sorry I just been having some post-traumatic problems I'm sorry oh it's okay my name over the usual though mine are different and mine are over the fact that in fact it reared its head this winter when I was in Tucson I went in to the Walgreens and I uh wanted to buy my wife a bottle of wine and when I brought it up to the counter the young lady asked me for ID and I looked at her and I said what and she said can I see an ID please you didn't look 21 I said I'm 72 years old I said why do I need to show you an ID she said well if you don't show me one I won't sell you the wine and I looked at her and I said you know you're bringing back post-traumatic stress to me she goes what do you mean I said well nobody asked me when I was 19 years old after being trained for an entire year when they sent me to Vietnam nobody asked me if I was old enough because here's the end of the story when I did my first tour nine months in salt East Asia when I came back to the States uh I'd been back five days I went into my executive officer and I Saidi want to go back now I want to go back to Vietnam right now I don't want to be here and he looked at me and he said but you just finished complete 9month deployment he said 'I can't send you back the Navy reg say you have to be six months out of the combat zone before you can re-enter it he said what's the problem and I said here's the problem I can't go up on Orange Avenue and buy a beer I can't even vote for who sent me to Vietnam voting was 21 then so I was given no privileges of being an adult and yet they sent me to war they asked me to kill or be killed for my country and yet then they told me I was a child that's my stress because you know why it Stills here today nothing has changed case in point you will never see another LeBron James you will never see another Kobe Bryant not cuz he's dead dead you'll never see another Kevin Garnett you know why cuz the NBA made a rule that says you got to go to college for one year before you can play pro basketball and I remember Germaine O'Neal the big center for the Pacers Germaine was scratching his chin and he said wait a minute he said you mean you can go die in Iraq but you can't but you're not you're old enough to die in Iraq but you're not old enough to play basketball yeah you're old enough to die isn't that child abuse if you send children to war and you send people who you don't even recognize as being adults I think I got a good case for child abuse here what could be worse only sexual maybe it's hard to argue with what he's saying but it's You could argue with what he's saying but it's true you're not old enough to play in the the NBA but you're old enough to go to war look I I believe the reason it's 18 is you're smart enough to know how to aim but you have nothing to lose when somebody aims it back at you look when Hitler was a an issue in the world I'm sure grown men with families were like look if we don't get him before he comes over here it's going to be a problem we have to go get him but for a lot of the conflicts that have went on the in the world it's just people sticking their nose where it doesn't belong because they think they're the World Police like everybody needs a military but if the people in the military at the youngest aren't old enough to have a beer after shooting somebody in the face they're have their leg blown off what are they doing there if they're not old enough to smoke if they're not old enough back in the day to vote if they're not old enough to be in the NBA because they didn't go to college like how about a year of college before you go to the military you know what I mean like they give you a year of college courses before you go to the military like something but is a child abuse because people say they're grown at 18 the answer is no but if they're not old enough to do things till they're 21 are they really grown at 18 like comment subscribe tell me I'm right tell me I'm wrong tell me what you think about this matter to everybody out there who's ever served who had family served thank you very much for your service and in some cases your sacrifice but is Jesse right it's hard to argue with him I'm out
