hey Marx Wasington MTC media uh this morning all the reports Cooper flag uh will be represented by New Balance I think it's sort of a shock uh for most people I think most people assume that Cooper flag most popular player coming out of high school he's certainly going to sign with Nike and he did not he goes with New Balance which has got to be you know one of the biggest upsets uh since you know the Jets over the Colts for people who are older they know what that reference is but this is going to be a um this is going to be an interesting um test study I guess New Balance um again is trying to wedge it s into this Market uh there's no nothing more marketable individually than an NBA player and let's just say that because the NBA you get to see the face the NBA doesn't have a whole bunch of uh rules like the NFL and what cleats you can wear and all that sort of nonsense um the NBA is kind of U certainly more of a free market so Cooper flag signing with New Balance does that put New Balance above Adidas and right below Nike and be that's going to be a question it's going to take a little time to answer because if there's anyone on paper who can do that it's going to be Cooper flag because Cooper flag has Mega crossover appeal whether people consume the NBA or not they will go and they will get something with Cooper flag he is an instant hit already with younger the younger crowd that that 18 to 34 even under the 18 he's already attracting and by the way for all you people all you people who hate the fact that college players can sign deals like this before their professionals are you are you upset that Cooper flag was able to do this cuz why you all get up on your little soap boxes when it's other people are you upset because under the old Cooper flag could have never have done this this would have never have happened but I think the the more than Nike the company that really missed on this was Adidas because Adidas would have had probably the top two American NBA players as far as marketability had they had Anthony Edwards and Cooper back that's where the Miss is the Miss is on Adidas of course we can say Nike cuz we just always assume that Nike gets these type of guys but Adidas if Adidas could have gotten Cooper flag and they would have put some pressure on Nike like some serious pressure but for New Balance it is a great get it is an upset get and now we all have to sit around and watch the numbers will Cooper flag be able to move apparel and move shoes and to what rate will he be able to move apparel and and move shoes and that's not just jersey sales because when you sign a deal like this this is more than just jersey sales so um New Balance if this works oh my gosh man Ali knocking out Liston in the first fight I mean that's that's what this is um and if there's anyone they can do it with again it is Cooper flag but if it doesn't work if it only moves them up a smidge what does it do to the shoe and Appel industry when it comes to these type of contracts do you sit there and say well the next one I don't make it this lucrative because we saw if Cooper flag couldn't move the needle further up insert players name probably won't be able to do the same so do they chase as hard do they offer as much so on and so fourth again that's something only time can tell we don't have the answer yet but as far as this thing jumping out and being big news this morning uh uh getting your Monday started before we get full-fledged into football Cooper flag um and new bals have done that so now it's a wait and see game it's Marcus washingon MTC media
